Gray and the others were heading back into country the side once again. They were driving through some cornfields with it looking like a normal day.

"Gray, it's cool that your friend Lyon has an uncle that recently bought a farm." Erza said.

"Although, what are we going for?" Natsu asked.

"Lyon asked for help. His uncle recently bought the place and would like to help getting it together until he can hire some actual farm help." Gray said. "Lyon's a good guy, I figured why not."

"We sure have paid a visit to a lot of farms." Lucy said. "I wonder what kind of farm fun we're going to have this time." They didn't think much of it as they drove by a scarecrow in the cornfield, but there was something they missed. The scarecrow was actually moving.

...

The Farm

Gray and the others pulled up to a farm and were greeted by Gray's friend named Lyon. As they pulled up, the two friends were able to see each other again.

"Gray! Great to see you again!" Lyon said.

"Great to see you too, Lyon. I'm sure I've told you about my friends." Gray said as he introduced the gang.

"And here comes my Uncle Phillip." Lyon said as he introduced his uncle. His uncle had the same hair color as him, but dressed with jean overalls and a bright red shirt.

"Thank you all for coming." Phillip said. "I just recently bought the place and could use some help getting this place fixed up until I can hire some actual farm help around here."

"No worries. We would be more than glad to help. It might actually be fun." Erza said. "My own aunt and uncle run a farm, so I know a few things that could help."

"That would be great." Phillip said.

"Uh... Just what kind of help do you need to do exactly?" Natsu said as he wasn't sure what to expect. He was in for an unpleasant surprise as he and Happy got stuck with manure duty. "What kind of fun is this?" He said with disgust as he and Happy did some shoveling. They might have gotten the worst job, but the others still helped out. Lucy was cleaning the chicken coop, Phillip and Erza worked together with new tiles on the barn, and Gray and Lyon were putting up a fence. It didn't seem so bad. They all did some work and got some of it done, but Gray stopped when he noticed something.

"Lyon? Have you and your uncle ever worked in the cornfield?" Gray asked.

"Not quite. The corn isn't ripe just yet." Lyon said.

"So whose footprints do these belong to?" Gray questioned as he found a pair of footprints in the corn.

"I..." Lyon said as he didn't have an answer. "I don't know. Although..." Lyon wasn't sure what to say to him.

"Lyon, talk to me." Gray said.

"I think there is something weird going on in that field." Lyon said. "The other night before I went to bed, I thought I heard something moving around in that cornfield. There have also been weird activity going on in there. The corn has been knocked down, but not in patterns. It's almost like it was cutdown randomly."

"Could it be some sort of animal?" Gray questioned.

"I don't think so because the corn was actually cut and nothing was eaten." Lyon said. "I think there's something weird going on out there, but no one knows what it is."

"I think this is something we need to look into." Gray said as this sounded mysterious. "Guys! Farm fun is going to have to be put on hold! We got a mystery now!"

"I'll take that over this!" Natsu said as he and Happy just threw the shovels to the ground.

...

The Cornfield

Later that night, the gang decided to investigate the cornfield. They took some flashlights and had a look around the field to see if they could find anything. They soon saw what Lyon was talking about. Some of the corn was cut in random patterns.

"What a waste. This is all good corn and someone is wasting it." ERza said.

"Maybe that's because they see things differently." Lucy said. "Based on the paths of what's been cut down, it looks more like someone is...looking for something."

"You mean it's some sort of search? For what?" Gray said.

"Maybe for soap. I can still smell that manure on me." Natsu said. "What about you, Happy?" He asked, but he didn't see Happy anywhere. Just then, they all saw what looked like a ghost rising out of the cornfield. All of them were getting a little scared until the sheet came off and saw it was just Happy pulling another prank.

"Not funny, Happy. Be serious." Erza said as they were all a little annoyed with Natsu grabbing Happy.

"Look! More footprints!" Gray said as he found another trail...leading to a scarecrow. Just then, they heard another rustling in the field.

"Happy, enough already." Lucy said, but Happy showed he was sitting on Natsu's shoulder.

"Uh... He's right here." Natsu pointed out.

"Then, what was that sound?" Lucy asked. They were about to stumble upon something only for it to come at them as the scarecrow jumped down from its post and surprised all of them. "The scarecrow! It's alive!" Seems like they found what they were looking for as it also pulled out a sickle.

"Run!" Gray called as the whole gang made a run for it with the scarecrow chasing after them. All of them ran as fast as they could with the Scarecrow chasing after them. The five of them pushed their way through the corn and didn't dare look back towards the scarecrow chasing them. All of them kept on running until they reached the farm again with Lyon and Phillip noticing them in their panicked state.

"What happened?!" Lyon asked.

"Are you all okay?!" Phillip asked.

"Barely. There was a living scarecrow in that cornfield that chased after us!" Lucy said.

"What scarecrow?" Lyon asked. All of them looked behind them and saw the scarecrow was gone.

"He's not there anymore." Erza said. "We must have lost him, but that was rather freaky. How could that scarecrow move on it's own?"

"Here's a better questioned. What was it doing out there besides scaring birds?" Gray said. That was when they heard a honking and saw that an elderly man dressed in a beige suit and cowboy hat came up to the farm.

"Oh no. Not again." Phillip complained.

"Phillip! I see you finally hired the help. I could have saved you a lot of money if you just handed this place."

"I told you before, Eugene, you are not getting the deed to this place. I already bought it and I intend to settle my life here." Phillip said.

"Really? I could promise you protection. You know those two could come back for it." Eugene said.

"You're not going to scare me away. Protection is what the police are for. Now, get out of here before I call them for trespassing." Phillip said.

"You're making a mistake, Phillip." Eugene said as he climbed back in his car and drove off.

"Who was that?" Gray asked.

"Eugene Philibert." Lyon said. "He's not someone you should trust. He's known for being swindler. For some reason, he wants the deed to this place, but my uncle refuses to surrender it to him. We think the real reason he wants it is because he's just a greedy man that wants the hidden loot."

"What loot?" Erza questioned.

"It happened years ago." Phillip said. "It happened years ago on this farm. Two bank robbers named Morrie Clarks and Jesse Jacks hid some money somewhere around here, but the money was never found or recovered."

"Here it is." Lucy said as she pulled up an article on her phone with a picture of them. Morrie was a big guy with blonde hair and Jesse was a guy with shaggy brown hair. "It's all true. This article says that these two were running from the police and hid the money somewhere around here. Morrie was arrested, but the police never got the money back."

"What about Jesse?" Erza asked.

"He was never caught." Lucy said with her taking a look at the photo of him. "You know, a little work done, and he almost looks like that Eugene guy. Oh no. Here's another thing. It says here that Morrie just recently escaped from jail."

"Oh boy. What if he's on his way here? What if Morrie was the scarecrow we saw?" Natsu questioned and he brought up a good point. However, someone was reaching for Natsu and Happy through the corn. Luckily, Happy spotted it and scratched that hand.

"Yeowouch!" All of them were alerted now and could see the scarecrow emerging through the corn.

"It's him!" Lucy said as they all backed away from the scarecrow where it seemed like he was going to hurt them. Gray kept backing away until he noticed the barn opened and got an idea.

"Hey! Over here!" Gray said as he dared the scarecrow to come after him as he positioned himself just right. The scarecrow charged right at Gray, but Gray used his momentum and threw the guy right inside. "Get the door!" They all hurried to shut the door and made sure it was locked. The scarecrow bashed against the door to get out, but it wouldn't budge. "That should hold him."

"Maybe the scarecrow is actually Morrie trying to get his loot back." Erza said.

"Did someone say my name?!" All of them looked and saw that Morrie Clark himself was right there coming out of the side of the barn.

"That's just random and inconvenient." Lucy said as the odds of this moment happening was bizarre.

"Give me my loot!" Morrie said as he thinks they have something to do with it. Everyone ran for the house and took cover inside. Once they were all inside, they locked the door to keep Morrie out. Morrie banged against the door to get him inside, but none of them were going to let that happen.

"Now what are we going to do?" Lyon questioned. That was when they heard a knock on the window and saw Eugene came back.

"Hello!" Eugene called.

"Eugene?! What are you doing now?! I thought you left!" Phillip said.

"I was until I heard a commotion going on. Seems like you have quite a problem now. Hand over that deed and I'll help you out." Eugene offered, but he had a lot of nerve to do so. That's why Erza pulled the sheet down over the window and blocked him out. "Hey! Let me in! I want that deed!"

"What are we going to do?! We're surrounded!" Lucy said as she held on to Natsu because she was scared. They really were as three different men were banging against doors and windows.

"I want my loot!" Morrie called.

"I want that deed!" Eugene called.

"I want out!" The scarecrow called. All three of them wanted different things, but it wasn't looking good for the gang.

"I'm calling the police." Phillip said as he had a phone with him. "It might still take a while for them to get here. Until then, everyone get upstairs." All of them hurried on up the stairs. They were focused on getting somewhere safe, but that was when they heard door break down with Morrie trying to get in.

"Give me my loot!" Morrie called. All of them hurried up the stairs. "You're not going anywhere! I want to know where my loot is!" Morrie said as he busted his way through the door and chased after them. Clearly, this man is crazy. He went up the stairs after him. However, they were already on the storm drain and trying to getaway. All of them slid down, but none of them saw Eugene down there with all of them crashing down on him. "Get back here!" He called with all of them running into the cornfield.

Morrie chased after them with Eugene chasing after them as well. The gang saw them coming from the cornfield and ducked down behind the corn when they saw Morrie coming. He didn't see them anywhere, but he did see Eugene run right into him. When that happened, Eugene got scared and ran off.

Gray ran by so fast past Erza that it messed her hair up. Just as Morrie was coming at her, she stopped him for a moment so that she could fix up her hair. Once she was done, she took off with Morrie chasing after her. As for Eugene, he chased after Lyon and Phillip for the deed, but Eugene did get tripped thanks to Happy saving them.

The scarecrow kept banging against the barn door, but had enough. That's why he broke a window and went out through there. However, he unlocked the barn and went back in just so he could leave through the barn door again.

Natsu and Lucy ran back to the farm, but saw the scarecrow coming at them. They ran back into the field with the scarecrow chasing after them. As a cover, Natsu quickly kissed Lucy Hollywood style to make it look like two couples having an intimate moment. It apparently worked because the scarecrow was embarrassed to stumble upon it and left them alone. Despite how much Lucy loved that, the two of them ran for it.

...

The Gang

"This is nuts!" Gray said as the gang regrouped. "Now we've got all these creeps after us! How are we going to deal with all of them?"

"We can't take them one by one. What we need is a way to trap all three of them together." Erza said.

"How are we going to do that?" Lyon questioned. "Morrie wants the stolen money that we don't have, Eugene wants the deed to this place, and we don't even know what the heck is with that scarecrow. How are we going to get them at once?"

"The scarecrow might want what those two are after." Lucy said as she was thinking things over. "All three of them are motivated by something that makes them greedy. There must be a way we can use that." She tried to think how she can do that until she looked down at Happy. "That's it!" She said as something clicked. "Happy, I think you just gave me an idea on how to trap these guys!" Happy doesn't know what he did, but he's glad it might be something to help.

...

The Cornfield

Eugene and Morrie continued to search around the field for the gang. They were determined to get what they were after. Soon, they came across one of the opened patches the scarecrow left with them spotting each other.

"Hey! You were chasing those kids earlier!" Eugene said.

"So were you! Where's my money?!" Morrie questioned.

"I don't know what you're talking about! I want the deed to that farm!" Eugene argued. That was when they heard someone moving in the corn and saw the scarecrow come out as well. Both of them were a little nervous about him, but all three of them were about to get scared. They heard some sort of mourning coming from the corn. Soon, all of them saw a ghost rising out of the ground. There wasn't just one either. More and more ghosts were rising out of the corn and giving the three of them a good scare. They soon found themselves surrounded by the ghosts backing away until the three of them were together, a lasso came around the three of them and tied them all together.

"Got them!" Phillip said. Once those three got tied up, the ghosts ditched their sheets and showed it was the gang that gave them all a good scare.

"Now that we have the three of you, I think it's time to get answers." Gray said.

...

The Farm

"Sounds like you all had one heck of an adventure on the farm." The police finally arrived at the farm with the three culprits being taken into custody. "Morrie escaped from prison a few days ago and we've all been looking for him. As for this scarecrow, who is he?"

"That's what I want to know. If the scarecrow isn't Morrie or Eugene, who is it?" Natsu questioned.

"The only other person that knew about the stolen money. Jesse Jackson!" Lucy said as she ripped off the mask and showed it really was Jesse.

"Jesse?!" Morrie said as he was surprised to see his partner.

"Yeah, it's me." Jesse said.

"Morrie was captured, but Jesse managed to escape." Lucy said. "When he and Morrie robbed that bank, they buried the money somewhere in the cornfield."

"I get it now. The chopped down cornstalk we saw was really him looking for the money." Gray said.

"And the scarecrow disguise was so that no one would recognize him." Erza said. "He wanted to get the money before Morrie came back for it so he could keep it all for himself."

"You backstabbing ragdoll!" Morrie insulted.

"Don't pretend you wouldn't have done the same!" Jesse said.

"But what about Eugene? Why did he act like nothing was going to stop him from getting the deed to this place?" Natsu questioned.

"Simple greed. A greedy feeling so strong that he just simply couldn't control." Erza said. "Lyon and his uncle told us Eugene is a swindler. He just wanted this land as part of another one of his schemes. It's like Lucy said, they all were greedy for something."

"And it all would have been mine if it weren't for you meddling kids!" All three of them said.

"Nice work, kids. All that's left is to find the stolen money." The police officer said.

"But I'm afraid I don't know where that is." Phillip said.

"It's true. Uncle Phillip and I never found any money around here." Lyon said.

"So where could it be?" Natsu questioned. That was when he noticed something with Happy. It looked like he was pulling something out of the ground. "Do you have something, Happy?"

"It looks like a handle." Lucy said. Happy pulled on it like it was a stubborn vegetable until Happy finally pulled it out like a farmer and it ended up being a briefcase. Once Happy pulled that out, the officer opened it up and there was money in it.

"That's it! The stolen money is right here!" The officer said.

"I guess farm work can make you some green. All that's needed is a blue cat." Natsu said as Happy felt like a real farmer now since it just pulled out something green and made some green. Either way, another set of bad guys were caught and it's another successful work day on this farm.
