AN: I think this is my second shortest chapter. I was in a rush. Expect the writing to feel stale. I probably won't be updating every 2-3 days anymore. Need time for myself, and time to think of ways to develop the plot. This chapter is 1.7k words. The next chapter, which is going to be posted next week, will be 8k-10k words, or more.
I probably missed a lot of typos and errors in this chapter, sorry if that ruins the read, I'll probably come back to this chapter in the future and fix it.
Anyway, Enjoy the chapter.
Saffron Ambrosia
All I could do was sit there and watch. Baffled at the battle that battle that took place. Hazel was fighting at an unimaginable speed with a force of fiery. I knew that there were people as powerful, or more powerful, than my mentor. But I couldn't imagine seeing them as soon as I left the city.
Adam easily dodged all of Hazel's attacks. Not a single one had hit him. I assumed, at least. I couldn't keep up, all I knew was Hazel's offense was completely disregarded by Adam. I wish I was that strong. I thought. I could protect everyone I loved from people who want to hurt them to grimm. No one would have to be scared anymore. That's what I love to believe anyway. But Lionheart specifically told me not to tell anyone about my magic. If news got out it could cause chaos and people seeking ways to attain my powers, to the point of killing me for my powers.
I clench my fists. It wasn't fair. Lionheart had told me the powers I hold are special, it's supposed to make me incredibly powerful. Stopping an army with a single motion of hand. Yet. Here I am, unable to defend myself against a single person. I didn't even hear them approach us.
By the time I focus back to the battle Adam had disappeared from my line of sight. I was only distracted for half a minute. I ran up to the location of where the battle had begun, there were no signs of them.
So, I waited by the tree. The incredible display of strength and agility shown by Adam put my mind at ease. I didn't think I had to worry about a thing. I stand correct.
Adam took small strides heading towards me. I met him halfway. "Adam? Are you okay?" I ask. There weren't any visible injuries on him. Adam had protected me from Hazel. He put himself at risk—that's what I thought at first till I saw his unbelievable battle prowess. He didn't have to fight for me, yet he did.
Just who did I stumble across?
We made eye contact. His beauty, which I didn't notice till now, took my breath away. And… out of nowhere, he hugs me.
"Do you wish to see your parents again before we leave these lands?" Adam asks. Leave these lands? The both of us? It's something I was planning to begin with. How far or how long? Unknown. But with someone else? And the man who saved me, no less. It was a dream come true. To explore the world of its nature.
"I won't lie to you, I want to see them again…. But not now. Not yet. The next time I see them will be when I learned how to use my maiden powers proficiently, to make them proud." I say. That is the reason why I left… or was it an excuse? My parents were always proud of me, they always supported me for what I aimed for in life. Yet, the reason for me running away, was because I wanted to explore the world for all of its plant life. To see all the beautiful flowers the world has to offer.
I chuckle to myself. I guess this is what the adults meant when their emotions were overflowing at my age. "Let's go, Adam," I say. I had a burst of rejuvenation and I felt like I could take on the world, and all it has to offer, or all that it has to throw at me.
Adam
A nice cool shade covers my face. I turn to my left to see Saffron wearing a brown cloak, the length reaching down to her ankles, and the hoodie over her head. And so was I. I look to the ground to find land thousands of meters below us, only to be hidden behind clouds.
Saffron sighs in relief, flipping her hoodie down, taking in the scenery. "I really thought I was about to get caught. Their security checkpoint is no joke—actually, we made it passed them, so it probably is a joke." Saffron chuckles, leaning on the railings that prevent us from falling off the airship—I believe that to be its name.
Saffron had explained to me that she always wanted to visit a vacation resort. One is located in Menagerie. She had already planned to take a bullhead there, though, she had to use a good portion of her money to purchase me a ticket. She seemed devastated afterward.
And, here we are now. On an airship flying towards Menagerie… It surprises me to see how far my children have come. I remember when they couldn't survive on their own for long, struggling to use spears and bows. But now, they've made an incredible discovery. The ability to take flight into the skies, even I thought it wouldn't be possible. A smile crept up on my face. I'm so proud of them.
"You look excited." Saffron says, smiling. I nod, but it isn't the reason she thinks it to be. "I'm excited too." Her smile brightens, "They have pools, pool noodles, spots to relax in the sun, and huge slides. It's like it has its own water park. Wait- I think that's what it said in the welcome book." Saffron bore a pondering look, dismissing it in a few seconds.
"Eh, doesn't matter." She shrugs. Saffron turns in the direction of the front of the bullhead, noticing something that changes her upbeat mood to an ecstatic one, "Hey, look!" She shouts, garnering the attention of other passengers. My eyes follow the direction she's pointing towards. Straight ahead was a barely visible continent surrounded by a vast ocean.
We arrive on the docks in less than half an hour. Dozens of the passengers on our ship were on the boardwalk, greeting their families. It brought a smile to my face. To love others is important. To love family is special.
Saffron took hold of my hand, "Come on, let's go." She says. I willingly follow as she pulls me to wherever she plans to take me. I observe my surroundings. The low tide barely took in the supports of the boardwalk. The sound of the ocean pushing against the shores and the idle chatter in the background. Wooden vendors sell various merchandise on the boardwalk and even on the shoreline. Jewelry, fruits, weapons, clothing, masks, they had everything to offer.
A normal thriving community. However, what took me by surprise was most of the locals. Specifically the extra parts on their body… some with the tails of a lizard, horns of an Ox, some with more prominent animal features. I, who named all animals, do not remember such beings presented to me. Had god made another variation of humanity without me noticing? I doubt it. I feel the connection between me and them.
They're my children.
How odd. I thought. Suddenly, It felt like the world was turning. I tripped over something on the ground, which was now stone pavement. We're deeper into the city. I should be more careful when being dragged by my child. I rarely trip over anything. I use my hand as support and throw myself into the air. A moment later, I landed on my two feet.
Ah, wait, where's Saffron? I hear distant screaming from above. Falling from the sky was Saffron, flailing her arms around with her eyes shut close. I took a few steps forward and caught her in my arms, bridal style.
Her arms sit close to her chest as she opens her eyes. "Sorry," I say. I genuinely didn't mean to take her with me. Muscle memory was to blame. To fall in the wild is to ask for death.
Yet, she ignored my apology, out of exasperation. That's when I notice the idle chatter in the background goes dead silent. I look up to see everyone in the market staring at me. Did I do something wrong? I wonder if acrobatics is prohibited here.
"Adam, your hood fell off!" Saffron quietly shouted, so only I could hear her. "Yeah, it did." I say. Not thinking much of it. "All of them are staring at me. Did I do something wrong?" I ask Saffron.
She jumps off my arms in which she almost falls over herself again. "No," She says, walking up to me and flipping my hood over my head. "It's just that… you're very… how do I say this. Gorgeous, incredibly handsome, other-worldly. Along the lines of that." She says while looking away from me. She took my hand and we ran off to another part of the city—with a considerably wide dirt path and houses aligned at the sides. We would periodically check if anyone had followed us, and to our luck, none had followed.
It was a quiet walk the whole way through—Saffron broke that silence, "From before… the reason why they were staring at you. I think it wasn't just because you were breathtaking," She chuckles at the statement, "When I first met you. I had this feeling about you. Not love, although, not to sound like a broken record, but you're admittedly hot. This feeling Is something I can't put into words. The moment I saw you, I knew everything would be okay, everything would just be fine and I had nothing to worry about." She says. Her eyes staring at the pebbles lying in the dirt.
"It was… I don't know, weird, odd, scary. At first at least. Then I just got used to it. Accepted it. And I'm glad I did." She says before turning towards me, giving me her best smile.
"You saved me. You gave me another chance at life. And now, you're here protecting me." She says with newfound guilt.
"I'm sorry for dragging you into this." She apologizes to me. However, she didn't need to apologize. She could have been pure evil, the worst of the worst, yet I would still protect her without reason. They're my own children. She's my child. I'd do what I could to protect them all. "I chose to protect you. Don't be sorry." I say.
Her bright smile returned, "Thanks-" She's interrupted by another voice, "Whoa, whoa, whoa. Adam? Man… what a surprise, I wasn't expecting to see ya' here, alive that is." A man says excitedly, but his tone sours after, "'Che, I just hope the others didn't get dragged along for the ride. And Here I thought I finally found peace away from those gods, what a pain." He says while biting on a lollipop.
AN: I wonder who this man is? Also, the entirety of the next chapter is going to be focused on Raven.t
