DM Margo's Sick Days Chapter 2
The next morning, Lucy decided that Margo should stay home from school again. Margo didn't complain as she still felt really tired. She lay on the crocodile couch wrapped up in her duvet and propped up some cushions watching TV like she'd done yesterday. Margo sighed worriedly. Her class at school was doing a project on romans and everyone had been asked to do research and make a model of something from roman times and she hadn't even started on a model! Margo felt a horrible churning feeling in her stomach. The project was due in on Friday at the end of the week. She had never been late with her school work before. She'd do some research later. She didn't want to let Miss Frannie down. Margo wished she knew what roman thing she was going to make a model of. Just thinking about it made her head hurt.
Margo took some paracetamol with some water and curled up on the crocodile couch with Blondie lying down on the floor next to her while she watched TV. ''Mom what about my school project?'' Margo asked Lucy, ''I need to make a model of something to do with the romans by the end of this week!''. ''I'm busy this morning'' said Lucy giving Margo a hug, ''You rest and take it easy and maybe this afternoon, we'll think about your project''. When Margo had watched everything she wanted on TV. She closed her eyes and slept for a little while until it was time for lunch. Later that afternoon, Dru came to check on Margo, ''Ah Margo you're awake'' he said, ''How are you feeling?''.
''A lot better thanks Uncle Dru'' replied Margo. ''Seems sleeping like a log did you the world of good'' said Dru. Margo smiled, her uncle was right. She did feel so much better. Lucy came in with the laptop. ''Margo I'm ready to help you look up some ideas on what to make for your school project on romans'' she said. While Lucy and Margo were looking at lots of photos on the internet of roman stuff, Gru came into the room. ''Wow that looks huge!'' said Margo pointing to a photo of what looked like a large outdoor theatre with lots of windows. ''That's a colosseum'' smiled Lucy, ''They were used for hosting gladiatorial games and various events during roman times''. Margo suddenly felt a burst of excitement. ''That's it!'' she said, ''I can make a model of a colosseum for my school project!''.
Gru and Lucy thought that was an excellent idea. ''You might need some help so if I can be of any assistance'' said Gru. Margo was amazed by how helpful her dad was being! He could be rather grumpy and stubborn sometimes. ''Eet just so happens I was an expert model maker when I was a boy'' said Gru proudly. ''That would be great, thank you Dad'' said Margo gratefully. She went and fetched some bits and pieces from the art and craft cupboard while Gru fetched a circular of offcut wood to use as the base. Lucy watched and supervised as Gru and Margo got to work. They made the colosseum out of cardboard and glued it to the base. They made windows and the other details out of different coloured pieces of paper.
Margo made some lions out of modelling clay and painted them to give them the right colours while Gru stuck some old mini gladiator figures that he had kept in storage for some time and had forgotten about them until he'd found them recently. ''Wow that looks very impressive!'' said Lucy when they had finished, ''Thank you for helping Margo, Gru''. ''Yes thank you Dad!'' said Margo. Gru stood up. ''Yes well no problem Margo, good luck with your project'' he said awkwardly. When he had left the room, Margo said ''Dad was really helpful Mom!''. ''Yes he was'' agreed Lucy, ''By the way how are you feeling sweetheart?''. Margo smiled. She'd had so much fun making her model she'd forgotten about her fever. ''Much better thank you Mom!'' she said. After a while, it was time to take Kyle and Blondie for a walk in the park.
''Can I come too?'' asked Margo, ''Please? I'm feeling so much better now''. Gru and Lucy looked at each other. ''Well all right'' said Lucy, ''I suppose some fresh air would do you good''. Margo went to get changed into her clothes. At the park, the sun was shining brightly and the sky was blue. Margo was happy to be out and about again and feeling better. The water sparkled on the pond as she feed the ducks with Edith and Agnes. The next day when Margo woke up, she didn't feel shivery or achy or hot. Her fever had gone! When Margo went back to school on Friday at the end of the week, she took her roman colosseum model with her. ''Margo that is amazing!'' said Miss Frannie when she saw the model, ''Are you feeling better?''. ''Much better!'' smiled Margo.
''Glad to hear it'' replied Miss Frannie, ''You must have worked hard on your model, I like the model lions and mini gladiator figures representing a battle like they did in roman times''. Margo nodded and told her teacher about how her dad had helped her. Miss Frannie was so impressed with Margo's model she awarded her with a certificate in assembly on Monday the following week. Margo showed it to Lucy when she picked her, Edith and Agnes up at home time. ''That's wonderful Margo!'' said Lucy giving her a hug, ''I'm so proud of you! We'll stick it on the fridge when we get home so everyone can see it!''. Margo beamed with pride as they made their way home. She hadn't let Miss Frannie down after all!
