A week has passed since the national broadcast was aired, health experts, know it all influencers and so called online health gurus had all given their two cents on the matter. Yet for all the opinions and theories that emerged from the unfiltered corners of the internet, there was no further official update on the situation. The dire emergency that was abruptly broadcasted in the middle of the night with no fanfare, was just it. Experts and scientists from all across the divide appeared in talk shows, news town halls and seminars, yet nothing concrete at the slightest. There were small amounts of protestors popping up between cities who took to the streets to demand the real truth of the situation from the officials, but they were met with the welcoming gesture and hospitality of riot police and civil defense force dispersing them with tear gas and scuffles. With little to no information to go on, each city seemed to organize their own level of readiness and enforcement, some with mask mandates, others didn't care for the potential of a disease outbreak that seemed far away. Saffron have heavy police presence and checkpoints everywhere, with local rangers monitoring the parks and reserves. It was suppose to make people to feel safer, yet for Ash, it has the exact opposite effect.

Currently sitting on his chair, Ash was attending Miss Roxanne's online class. With physical classes down for no apparent reason, many of their classmates were unhappy with these arrangement. They just passed their mid-term exam and all they wanted was to hang out and have fun with friends. Yet this seemingly small outbreak in a farm town far away from Saffron City stopped everything in its track. There no official case of the disease report in any of the cities, not that the public would know what they should be on a lookout for anyway.

'Seems like an overreaction to shut down schools in Saffron City when what's happening is all the way in Pewter.' Fiddling and twirling his pen with much skill and expertise, Ash leaned behind his chair with his legs crossed over. He numbly listened to the online lecture class from Miss Roxanne, for as much he liked his teacher, online classes are incredibly boring and uninteractive. He peered over the window of his room, gazing upon the busy streets filled with pedestrians and cars. People seemed to wear masks, some were even actively staying away from pokemon. It was pretty surreal to see how one measly broadcast from the health ministry can do to people's behavior, but that makes it all the more concerning. Again, why the silence? You're just adding on anxiety to people.

"How is everyone doing? I know circumstances seemed difficult right now, but just know we are all in this together." Roxanne spoke with her arms placed on the table, her camera showed she was wearing her white buttoned up collar shirt and red tie. Her sweet voice was laced with concern, she could see the frustration and fatigue in her student's eyes. This is not what they sign up for, they are suppose to enjoy their school years surrounded by classmates and friends, now they are confined to their dorms, a prisoner in their own homes.

"Okay miss." The indifferent tone from her students told her enough.

"Please stock up on supplies just in case. Things could get better or things could get worse." It was the same old, same old, no one knows everything so be prepared. Ash has not done his grocery shopping yet and his sweet mother, worried as always, sent him a large sum of money for emergencies and groceries. For now, he had yet to spend any of it but he knew he had to be a sensible and responsible adult to buy groceries instead of ordering takeout or heating up cup noodles.

"Miss do you know what's going on? One moment we were told class is suspended, the next is a broadcast about an outbreak. T-This isn't serious isn't it? So far there has been no updates." Giselle, the class's most popular girl spoke with her Cubone in her arms. The girl is relatively, well she is a little spoiled and- okay she is a two faced bitch. Sweet and innocent on the outside, deep down she is a manipulative spoiled princess who is used to things going her own way. Her father surprise, surprise is the President of the Parent Teacher Association and CEO of a large corporate company. That being said, Ash has never really interacted her so he didn't really despise her. But right now, she seemed genuinely terrified at what's going on.

"I wish I have the answers too, I'm equally in the dark as you guys. I ask other teachers and they don't know too, keep in contact and be careful if you see pokemon displaying signs of aggression." The various sign of aggression from a pokemon ranged from subtle growling, uneasy eye contact and slow walking, to roaring ferociously and stomping the ground. Those who are well studied in pokemon behavior can easily discern it, but for many ordinary folks, it was difficult to tell. Which unfortunately, lead to some form of stigmatization towards pokemon. Viral videos circulated online of people chasing away pokemon from their own homes and burrows was disgusting but given the heightened paranoia and silence from the authorities, it seems like a every man for themselves situation. Misinformation quickly proliferated and panic soon engulf the entire internet space, a tragic sight really.

"Yes miss." Roxanne sighed, what little comfort she could offer to her student is just not enough.

"Good, now let's continue our class. Please keep your webcam on so I know you're actually attending class. I would be sharing something important, truth to be told, all academic activity has been cancelled." The mirage of students blinking in confusion before finally realizing what she said earned a smile from Roxanne.

"Eh so why are we having this session?"

"This is my own personal tutor, now before you log off, please stay. I'm really worried about the outbreak and I want you to be prepared for it just in case." The students shrugged, they didn't mind this and it wasn't as if they were doing something important anyway. The have one last assignment for the semester and afterwards, it would be complete freedom. Usually they would travel around Saffron or other parts of Kanto like Maiden's Peak or Celadon City, but considering the wild pokemon attacks and the stringent requirement for travel, it just didn't seem likely.

"A free lesson with miss, what's not to like?" The tongue and cheek tone from Trip made the rest of the class chuckle.

"Hehe thank you everyone, now class, are all of you at home?" The chorus of yes from them earned an inward sigh of relief. Good, all of them are at home safe and sound. She focused her gaze and glanced at her own office window, her luxurious studio apartment maybe small in size, but the rare gemstones and exotic fossils displaying on the case made it looked like a mini museum.

"Yeah."

"Go to your windows and stare outside the streets, what do you notice?" Perplexed by the request, some of the students stood up from their chairs and peered outside the windows. The once bustling metropolitan area were now devoid of people, only the local law enforcement, bus transports and takeout riders can be seen. The people on the streets earlier were now gone in a busy weekday afternoon, strange to say the least.

"Nobody is on the streets? No traffic jams or cars, and a lot of police." Roxanne grunted, her cool and calm exterior was met with the sharp red rubies eyes that glistened in dominance and authority.

"Exactly, which means a state wide emergency has already begun." The sudden statement from her drew a myriad of shocked expressions. Those who weren't paying attention to class earlier, quickly switched their tab back to the online class meeting. Seeing that her students' attention were firmly grasped, Roxanne clasped her hands together and placed them below her head,

"W-Wait what?"

"What do you mean miss?"

"A state wide emergency? When did they announce that?"

"Does that mean classes are cancelled?" The teacher patiently waited for her students to calm down, each of them asking their own questions. Where was this level of interaction and excitement when she asked them if there was anymore questions regarding their topic and syllabus? Still, this is a dangerous situation and Roxanne was not playing around.

"When it comes to disasters and emergencies, it is what they don't tell you that is the most important part. The education ministry has eerily been silent on this, at a time where communication is key. Children and teacher lives are at risk, the fact they kept all of us in the dark doesn't bode well. Why the need to have armed forces in the city when it is just a community outbreak all the way in Pewter City? Something doesn't add up." Ash was mildly surprised by how knowledgeable Miss Roxanne is, she practically took the words right out of his mouth. It didn't seemed right that the government is not saying anything, they can't just drop in and say 'there is a outbreak, good luck' and then disappear.

"Wild Pokemon attacks and a community outbreak, there has to be a pattern." Trip was absolutely certain that the attacks and dead hikers on Mt Moon had something to do with it. After extensive research with the boys, they have gathered together all the relevant news article, forums and reports online. The results were shocking, all the information related to the virus seemed to be scrubbed off. News of people being arrested for inciting false panic and creating fake news seemed to be more important than the virus update itself.

"Exactly, keep an eye for news but don't be deceived by fake news too. At a time of where information is scarce and people are scared, people are willing to take any information they see and believe, even if there is a risk of misinformation. This is what we call the Risk Information Seeking and Processing model. So make sure you fact-check, cross reference and refer to reputable sources when you come across news about the outbreak or attacks, just like how you would do for your assignments." Amidst her lecture, one of her more quiet students perked up with her mic peaking intensity.

"Miss, a news report is now live!" Roxanne narrowed her eyes, about time the authorities give an update.

"What? Let's watch it, I will share it on screen." Quickly she goes, she searched for the official news portal of the communication website and shared the screen with the rest of the class, it seemed they were on time as the broadcast would start in a few minutes. Though the anticipation and anxiety was building within her, Roxanne was careful to not show any sign of weakness in front of her students.

"Greetings Kantonians, the Kanto Center for Disease Control and Prevention have effectively contained the outbreak. There have been rumormongers spreading false information all over the internet, blatantly causing false panic and creating public anxiety. I wish to remind you all that perpetrators who spread misinformation would be persecuted under the Anti-Fake News Act. Everything is under control and there is no need for panic, please refute any outrageous and slanderous information you see online and only trust reputable source of information. Thank you." Short and brief, just like the previous broadcast. Roxanne frowned at how little information they have divulge, effective containment does not seemed to be reassuring when you don't reveal what exactly you have contained. She glanced at the reaction of the students, none of them showed signs of relief or joy. Like her, they were equally disappointed and scared at how cold and quick the announcement is.

"The message seemed awfully defensive." Sharp as ever, Paul crossed his arms at the broadcast. He wasn't sure if this is how Kantonians do things, but something tells him that this was unprecedented.

"You're right Paul, one line about the actual outbreak and the rest is directed towards misinformation, controlling the narrative seemed to be more important than the actual situation." Roxanne's on edge and her pensive voice was not reassuring at the slightest.

"So we worry for nothing?" The teacher shook her head, it's the exact opposite, if anything they should be even more worried and concerned.

"I won't say that Stephen, the fact we don't know what cause the outbreak, how it is transmitted, the way the authorities contained it and what preventive measures the public should do is extremely concerning. Protocol dictates that clear direction on the top would allow smooth execution from the bottom. None of it is being done right now, no official spokesperson giving speeches and no clear direction from our leaders." It was strangely calming to see his teacher like this, Miss Roxanne's youthful age was truly hid her methodical and analytical nature. She glanced at her Golem who had been with her through thick and thin, it merely gave a thumbs up to her with a goofy smile, reassuring that things would be okay and it would sort it out. If not, it could always pummel them to shreds, works all the time.

"You're really on point miss." Roxanne leaned against her palm, sighing at how impressed and in awe her students are.

"Well as a former gym leader, you are expected to lead your citizens during a crisis situation. We are trained for this kind of thing, never for an outbreak though. But regardless, please be on high alert and stay in doors. I will end the session today, you have until next Monday 5:00 PM to hand in your assignments. Make sure the plagiarism rate from Turnitin is below 10% and the marking rubrics is attached okay?" The dreaded assignments were more concerning than the outbreak themselves, but Ash had already completed it, he is just waiting for the others to submit it first. He glanced at the clock, 6:16 PM, just in time for dinner.

"Yes miss, thank you."

"Good bye everyone, please stay safe!" With that, everyone exited the call one by one. Ash let out a yawn and stretched his limbs outwards. What should he have today? He could spend 30 minutes of his life to whip a fresh mackerel from the freezer and cook rice, or he could head down to 7/11 to get cup ramen and some cheeky pack of crisp. Deep in his philosophical battle for his preferred dinner, a sudden phone call from an unexpected friend rang through. Perplexed at why he is contacting him now, Ash slid his thumb across the screen to answer the call and placed it near his ears.

"Gary? What's up? How are ya doing-"

"Ash you saw the broadcast?" The tense and distraught tone from Gary, caught his attention. Instinctively, Ash sat upright and proper, leaning his body forward just slightly to align his posture better.

"Yeah, why?"

"Listen everything is NOT under control, don't believe what they are telling you, it's all lies." The young man blinked, why does Gary sound like every conspiracy theorist portrayed in the movies? He tempered his thought and stared outside the windows, the gloomy gray clouds obscured the skyline, with only seeps of the glorious evening sunlight shining through the pockets. Very soon, it would rain again, not that heavy storms during the evening would be out of the ordinary.

"Calm down Gary, what's going on?"

"The other night I told you guys gramps want me home right? Well before that, he and a few more researchers was conducting an investigation over the recent pokemon on humans attacks. Apparently, they found out that the pokemon who attacked humans are infected. I'm reaching to you now using a VPN and a series of proxy networks." The realization of Gary's words hit hard, the term infection cannot be lightly used in this context. The fact the Kanto Health Minister refer the situation as an outbreak meant something serious have happened. If an viral infection is causing the pokemon to attack humans, there is only one such disease that come to Ash's mind.

"Infected? Like what, rabies?"

"Exactly like rabies! Something to do with Pokerus mutation or something. Pewter City is currently cut off, no news is coming out from there. The government is actively censoring information about the outbreak in Pewter." That explains Gary's use of private and alternate network, and the eerie silence from the authorities. But even Ash know that sweeping things under the carpet never works well in the long run, it would all just cumulate and bite you back twice as hard. A community outbreak needs to be dealt swiftly before it could get a foothold on the other communities or cities. There was no doubt that the government is keenly aware of the severe consequences of not being transparent during a crisis, all of them have suffer through it before during the devastating 2011 flood that swept all over Kanto.

"Why would they do that? Shouldn't we be informed?"

"It's what they always do, at least that what gramps said. Frankly I'm worried, you should come back to Pallet Town as soon as possible. They are rumors of highways being blocked and cordoned off, I won't be in Pallet Town for long. Gramps and his team is moving to Cinnabar soon. Safer there he said." Ash bit his lower lip, it seems his concerns and paranoia for the wild attacks were valid after all. He needs to get home then, classes has already ended and the holidays are upon them. But for Professor Oak to relocate his entirely family to Cinnabar? Leaving behind the laboratory that he founded and built with his own hands? Something is amiss.

"I see, I- I will try to reach Pallet. I want to see mom too." Gary could tell Ash's voice cracking at the thought of his mother being attacked. But the young Oak practically treat Delia like his aunt, and he would do anything he can to make sure she is safe too.

"Alright, in the mean time we look out for your mom, don't worry! Anything happens, I call ya Ashy boy. Your mom is safe with us, gramps and Daisy is looking out for her." It was a burden off his shoulders and a huge relief, his mother's safety is honestly the only thing he cared about. Pallet Town is not far from Pewter City and the fact Gary was near certain that the situation is way worse than they expected... Ash shuddered to think that peaceful and cute pokemon that always hang around in Pallet would turned into bloodthirsty frenzied fiends.

"Thanks Gary, stay safe. Keep me updated, tell the boys about this okay?"

"Yeah I will don't worry, calling you first just to check if the VPN is okay. I'm scared of big brother tapping our lines you know?" Ash chuckled at that, although it was a ridiculous thought, Professor Oak's privy research into the origin of the pokemon attack might lead to some complications with the authorities actively concealing the truth.

"I would call you dramatic but when you consider that they go out of their way to censor and erase stuff, it's good to be cautious."

"Exactly, anyway book that train ticket and come back you hear?" Akin to a nagging older sibling, Gary had always got his back. Ash smiled and nodded, ending the call with a snarky one liner. He stared outside the window and sighed at another day of rain. Soggy streets, colourful umbrellas and light refracting the rain, all of them and more had become a very calming sight to Ash. There was something magical staring out of his bedroom window during the rain, where rain droplets raced against one another. His pensive mood was interrupted when modern day machinery began to make it's nuisance, the electric kettle.

'Mom is still at work, and she won't pick up phone calls then.' Hand on hip, Ash switch off the power of his kettle. He glanced at the clock hanging on his wall, few more minutes and it would be 7:00 PM. The perfect time to head to the convenient store and get some much needed snacks and refreshments. Although what Gary said was still being replayed in his mind, if things are truly not what they seemed, there would be in a whole lot of trouble.

'Well if it happens, it happens. Not really something I can do about.' As dire and intense the situation is, there is no point dwelling on the things Ash can't change, so he would choose to live in the moment. For now, his stomach calls to him. The young man donned his jacket and gave a Pikachu a pat on the head. The normally eccentric electric type curled on his bed with a scarf wrapped around its neck, the stormy gray scenery and the muffled sound of rain falling was undeniably soothing. With the umbrella firmly in his hands, Ash made his way downstairs with his wallet and phones in his pockets. He closed one of his eyes briefly when the cold gust of the storm breathed through his clothes, flailing around his jacket as if it was some kind of cape. Strong winds, wet roads and swaying trees, the storm had finally approached them. The brief walk to the nearby 7/11 was a battle itself, the heavy resistance from the elements were driving Ash backward, but his unyielding spirit of eating dinner persevere him through. He narrowed his eyes and gritted his teeth, an umbrella is useless at keeping you dry when most of the rain is blowing from the side. After a grueling 10 minutes of waddling through inundated waters, Ash finally reached paradise itself. Seeking refuge alongside fellow salarymen and officer workers, Ash entered the store and swiftly went over the selection of hot cups.

"Indomie sounds good." His hands magically reached for the series of packet noodles, his eyes darted around the sandwich section and lit up at the sight of Tamado Sango, Kantonian egg mayonnaise sandwich. After a series of stuffing food items into his basket, Ash went over the counter to pay for his dinner. He glanced at the old TV hanging from the ceiling, showcasing a live report of a politician actively avoiding journalist's question regarding the wild pokemon attacks.

'I should call mom once she reach home.' Plastic bag in hand, Ash waddled through the storm back to the comfort of his home. He successfully reached the compounds of his apartment and went to his unit.

"Pikachu I'm home!" The electric mouse perked up and ran towards the door, eagerly awaiting the yummy treats that Ash often bought. His wishes was granted when Ash entered the unit with a plastic bag in hand, one of them were a packet of ketchup potato chips. His absolute favourite.

"Pika!" Ash rolled his eyes at Pikachu's stubby little paws reaching over his bag, he seriously spoiled his starter a bit too much sometimes.

"Okay, okay, calm down." The euphoric sound of the bag opening and the smell of fresh tomato ketchup hit his senses, Pikachu leap onto the kitchen counter top and stared at the rows of chips pouring down a bowl. It squeaked when Ash handed the bowl of chips to him and patted its head, a well deserved treat for the affable electric type. The young man glanced at the clock 7:37 PM, his mother would be on the way home by now. A nice dinner and a few Youtube videos should pass some time. Between the egg sandwiches, cup noodles and binge watching videos, time quickly passed and Ash found the sands of time rapidly slipping away from his fingers. He checked the PC's time and widened his eyes once he realized that it was now 9:34 PM. Quick on his hands, he tossed the trash into the kitchen's trash can and rinse his hands. He dried them with a few plys of serviette and swiftly went back to his room, like a Walrein belly flopping onto the icy sheets, Ash flopped down his comfy bed and pulled his phone out from his pocket. First phone call, then video meeting, the standard procedure between the mother and son. Tapping the recent contacts and clicking on his mother's name, Ash patiently waited as the line began to beep.

"The line you're reaching is currently unavailable, please try again." The unexpected robotic voice raised eyebrows, he sat upright this time and dialed the number again, maybe it was a misinput? But alas, the line went dead again, no matter if he type the exact phone number to his mom, a WhatsApp call or whatever forms of social media communication, he can't reach her.

"Are you kidding me?" His heart rapidly pounded, his stomach begin to churn in distress and discomfort. M-Maybe he can reach Gary? He buddy ol pal promised he would look after her, yeah! So without missing a beat, Ash called Gary's personal number but the results were the same, dead line.

"Can't reach Gary too, what the hell?" Pikachu frowned at how distraught his trainer look, he could sense his skyrocketing anxiety and rising blood pressure by the moment. Given the information Gary had inform them, it seems his trainer's thoughts turned to the worst. Frustrated, Ash began to ping the Discord group in hopes of getting some form of communication. To his dismay, everyone who lived within Saffron City all saw his message and hopped onto the VC.

"Hey guys? Can you hear me?" The audio was crystal clear, no sign of distortion or connection lost. The connection bar was in green, his voice was clear and there was no choppy cuts. The connection here is fine, but Pallet Town's one is not. Barry, being the first to join the chat and answer his called spoke in confusion over Ash's sudden notification.

"Yeah we can, what is it Ash? You down for some games?" Barry's innocent question was met with a indifferent no from Ash. Soon enough, the rest of the friend group hop into the voice chat. The whole squad was almost here except Tracey and Paul.

"No! I can't reach my mom, have you guys try calling your family?" Sensing the dire urgency and concern in his voice, Trip volunteered to call his mom. He hasn't seen her for a long time and while they have their squabble and argument, he did genuinely love her and miss her. So fulfilling his duty as a filial son, the Unovan pulled out his phone began to call her, waiting patiently for her to pick it up. Judging by the difference in time zone, it should be morning on Unova now.

"Well let me try... what the? Deadline?" As soon as those words left Trip's mouth, Ash's anxiety and panic further increased. Subsequently, Chase and Barry began to call their own parents too, but none of them could reach them. Vulgarities were muttered, theories were exchanged, yet none of the boys understood why can't reach anyone beyond Saffron City.

"But I can you hear guys just fine!" Trip assumed the mediator of the group and calm Ash and Barry down, he understand that they were concerned but maybe the line could be down for the moment. Of course, that seemed ridiculous in hindsight since most of them are calling their parents internationally, but the part-time photographer was certain there is a logical explanation for this, because he- has no idea what the hell is going either.

"Hold on let us wait for the others." They patiently waited for their friends to go online, perhaps all of they can think of something once they put their heads together. Moments passed and without rhyme or reason, Pikachu let out a large cry of pain. The sudden jolt and scream from his starter quickly his attention, but before Ash could reach his starter to ask what's wrong, the power went out. The city's street lights that adorned the streets all shut of at a moment's notice, the PC screen was now pitch black, as it is the house as well. The digital alarm clock that showcased the time were no longer present, instead the faint red emergency light outside the apartment hallways glow ominously from the door gap.

"P-Power Outage?" The sudden power outage and emergency lights send a chill down his spine, the hair on the back of his neck stood upright and the once comforting sound of rain pelting the windows and roof, had now reminded Ash how quiet and dark the house was. No traffic can be see and the cars that were once on the road, mysteriously stopped right then and there. But the groaning of his starter brought Ash back his senses, he quickly checked on Pikachu and gently pulled him to his lap, inspecting him for any signs of injuries.

"Pikachu what's wrong?" The electric mouse writhed in pain, the pulsating migraine that threatened to split its head wide open was unbearable. It burrow its head around Ash's lap, twisting and turning in hopes of relieving the sudden convulsion on his head. Ash felt his heart sank at the sight, powerless to do anything, just like the damn apartment he is staying in! He narrowed his eyes and fumbled around his desk to search for his phone in the veil of night, he turned his phone on but just like every electrical device near him, they weren't working.

"What the- is this a joke!?" Virtually everything that used electricity was not working, even things that are not connected to a power source. His eyes widened in the realization at the gravity of the situation, Pikachu being in pain, a citywide blackout, electronic devices seemingly breaking down, this was clearly the result of a powerful EMP. Strong electromagnetic pulses that can short-circuit computers, satellites, radios, and even phones. Electric types are very susceptible to these forms of attacks as EMPs hurts and disrupts their biological mechanics that allowed them to generate and conduct electricity, it attacks their mental faculty and brain function that causes headaches and migraines.

"Hang on Pikachu, I will be right back okay?" Ash made a dash towards the freezer, pulling out the ice cubes that has not melted just yet. He dumped a whole bunch of sea salt onto the cubes of ice to lower the temperature before sealing all of them in a sealed tight plastic bag, forming a makeshift ice pack for Pikachu. He scowled at how dark and quiet everything is, the only form of light is the flashes of lightning that branched across the sky.

"It's okay buddy, shh." Gently as he can, Ash stroke Pikachu's ears softly as he began to apply the ice pack to Pikachu's head. He ignored the frigid wet stain on his bed sheet and focused on making his starter feel better. He took his eyes away form Pikachu momentarily, eyeing down the rainy streets that seemed to be filled with people walking about. The faint shouts and arguments from residence within the building were causing Pikachu further pain, so Ash closed the curtains and allowed the pitch black room to do it's magic.

It was strangely calm, oddly surreal being in a complete dark room like this with no social media distractions. In many ways, it allowed Ash to realize how much of his time is spent online and connected, the only time where he is not using his phone was during showers, hence the term shower thoughts, where you are not preoccupied with distractions. Such tranquility however didn't last long when screams from the nearby neighbors started to annoy Ash.

"Seriously? Again?" The neighbors living next to them were a dysfunctional couple desperately trying to patch their relationship up, with little no success. It is a pretty sad sight and worse of all, the two are always arguing with one another. But Ash is on relatively good terms with them, especially with lady Satomi. He closed his eyes briefly, no signal, no wifi, no nothing, at least the air was cool and Pikachu seemed to do better now. But his moment of calm and serenity soon broke through, when sounds of gunshots can be heard from outside.

"Gunshots!?" Instead of seeking refuge and staying away from the windows, Ash's curiosity got the best of him as he pulled the curtains apart, leaning onto the frame of the windows. He could barely see the streets given the rain blurred the glass panes, but the muzzle flashes and the horrific screams cannot be muffled by the train. He squinted his eyes as it picked up signs of movements, many of them in fact. Small figures in the dark flooded the streets, their eyes illuminating in some form of aggressive red glow. He could barely recognized them given the high attitude of his apartment, but he noted they were bipedal with a long tail.

"What the- Pikachu are you alright?" The electric mustered a nod, the pain within his cerebral palsy had gradually subsided. Alert at the risk and dangers, the electric type didn't hesitate to open the windows and jump onto the ledge to have a greater view on the streets, though in normal circumstances Ash would have a heart attack and reprimanded his starter, he was too focused on the situation to say anything.

"Pi!" The distress in his starter voice was obvious, whatever is moving in the shadows are not friendly. Screams of terrors can be heard, the sound of glass shattering and doors slamming across the walls nearly shook the room, the torrent of screams and shrieks brought more confusion and panic to Ash, what the hell is going on? His questions went unanswered but a bright orange hue flickering in the corner of his eyes caught his attention, the roaring blaze of fire can be heard, with its fiery inferno lighting up the entire neighbourhood block in the shade of orange. The sound of gunshots continue, with police officers giving faint verbal commands to their partner to attack with full force. And then, he saw them.

A horde of Rattata eating a man alive.

Their sharp teeth gnaw at the unlucky officer's flesh, drawing blood and a bloodcurdling scream. It didn't take long for the vermins to make short work of the human, sinking in their razor sharp teeth into their flesh and bones. The sight horrified Ash, to the point of paralysis. The dawning realization that the wild pokemon attacks had finally made it to the city, blurred his vision and hit him quick. Pikachu and him needs to get out, fast. The very walls of this apartment would just be his tombstone, he picked his starter up and donned his clothes. The sound of rapid footfalls and horrifying shrieks filled the halls of the apartment. They have breached in the apartment complex, but Ash didn't have time for second guessing or pondering what to do next, there were too many questions and at this point he had to rely on instinct.

"Pikachu stand guard, attack on my command and full defensive positions." The once whimpering electric mouse nodded with its red pouch sparkling from electricity. It would do his best to protect Ash and although he had yet to fully recovered, he still can deliver a few voltage or two. Rationally, Ash would have pack all of his belongings and make a move, but time was scarce and with the screaming echoing from across the hallways, they have little to no time to pack up important documents or even grab a bag, they need make a move now and find some place safe, the apartments had already been compromised. With a deep breath, he peered at the key hole and found no one within the hallways, a contrary to the chaotic scene playing in his head. He quietly unlocked the door with Pikachu firmly on his shoulders, the eerie silence of the hallways were enhanced by how dark everything is. The buzzing emergency light above illuminated nothing, the red light only make it more ominous and uncertain. His foot trudged forward to the stairwell, shown by the bright fire exit sign on top that were somehow still working. The elevators was out Ash was dreading at the reality of fighting his way through the Rattatas, should have took a broomstick for self-defense.

But a groaning in the distance earn his attention, a fellow human! Swiftly, Ash threw away all caution and went down a floor. The broken plant pots with dirt spilling out of the walkway first came into Ash's view, the low growling and hoarse inhaling caught Ash's attention, the person sound like they are suffering from asphyxiation or in pain. He turned around a corner and could see a hunched man kneeling over a person, blood splatters was evident on its green jacket and the erratic twitching of its body made Ash stopped. Pikachu narrowed his eyes and prepared for a foreseeable confrontation, the fresh smell of blood being spilled permeated the air.

"Sir? Are you okay? Sir-" Before he could even finished the sentence, the man growled once more and rushed towards Ash. The sudden burst of speed caught Ash of guard and he could barely register what was happening when Pikachu deliver a direct Thunderbolt onto the man's skull, electrocuting him instantly. The body convulsed as it laid on the floor before finally, it laid still.

"P-Pikachu." The electric mouse patted his trainer's cheeks, comforting him that everything would be okay. It was no doubt a shock to his trainer at what he had witness, but Pikachu is not risking Ash's potential life for his innocence. The man had chosen his obituary the moment he decided to attack Ash like this. Still recovering from shock, Ash shuffled forward to get a better look on the man that attacked him. His eyes widened and dilated at the skin that showed obvious signs of decay and necrosis, its mouth was agape, showcasing its teeth drenched in blood. The pupil in its eyes were noticeably blurred and white as if it suffered from a cataract infection. Visible veins can be seen around their limbs, though Ash couldn't discern the color of it due to the pitch black compound.

"He looks like the bodies Trip show us, it has to be connected." Pikachu drooped its ears, it knew it went too far by killing a man, b-but Ash's life was in danger! A paralysis may not have fully work in time and Arceus knows that man seemed horribly off! The electric mouse nuzzled against his trainer, hoping that he would not think of him and label him as a monster. Seeing his starter's guilt-ridden look, Ash patted his head and stroke its ears, giving him a reassuring smile.

"Thank you Pikachu, you saved my life. I don't know what's happening, but- he look more like zombie than anything." It was meant to be in jest, but the body that were obscured before by the man who attacked Ash, came into view. The Pallet town native pinched his nose and winced his eyes, the sight was gruesome, visible fleshy tendons and chewed out tissues can be seen, the victims nose was bitten off from it's face, leaving it lying on the ground dripping with blood and flesh.

'This is a nightmare.' The grotesque sight was too much for Ash, the urge to throw up in disgust almost overwhelmed him. But the sound of footfalls immediately rid any sense of unease or sickness, the animalistic growls and groans echoed from the stairs, hordes of them can be heard running and crashing into debris, there was no time to lose, Pikachu and him have to continue to move. The duo descended the other flight of stairs, meant to be for the apartment's internal fire escape. The complete submersion to darkness made it difficult to see, so slow and steady is the way to go. The young man's breathing was uncomfortably loud, making him keenly aware that those things out there can easily hunt him down should they hear him.

"Marill Water gun!" The familiar sound of his friend screaming in terror brought jubilant joy to Ash, he forgo his fears and anxiety and burst out of the stairwell doors to the lower floors. His eyes widened at the sight of bloodthirsty Rattatas and humans chasing Tracey down from the end of the hall. The tears of fear in his eyes and the uncontrollable whimpers, Ash and Pikachu knew what must be done.

"Tracey!" The aspiring artist's face lit up at the sight of his savior, he gritted his teeth from the burning pain of his calves. They were so close, he can hear them inching closer as ever with their fang and claws. He had seen the horrors, he knew what they were capable of.

"ASH!" The Pallet town man steeled himself and held the door wide for him, the horde chasing down Tracey were too close. He turned to his starter and nodded, their adversaries were soaked by Tracey's Marill, it shouldn't take much to deal with them.

"ASH DO SOMETHING!" The young man remained unfazed, waiting for the right moment to strike. As sound of their stomping and growling grew louder and closer, Ash saw his moment of attack when they stepped on the puddle of water.

"Pikachu Thunderwave!" Pikachu obliged and sent electricity that course through waters, narrowly avoiding Tracey in the process. The bright light show of the infected getting paralyzed and electrocuted caused them to scream in agony. It brought them time, but it also drew much unwanted attention from the other blocks. Seizing the moment, Tracey reached Ash in time and the two slammed the door shut behind them. But there was no time to rest, the paralysis would wear off and they need to get out of here.

"Let's go!" They climbed down stairs, trading caution and care for speed and efficiency. Their sneakers stomp the stairwell but at this point, Ash was near certain that their location was already compromised. It wasn't long before they reach the car park of the complex, completely underground with little to no cars here. No sign of car windows being smashed too, which meant most of the residents have not made it home yet, given the circumstances, Ash only hoped they are well. The audible panting from Tracey earned a smile from Ash, physical exercise and Tracey Sketchit don't mix. He slapped him on the shoulder lightly, alleviating the mood to a more lighter tone. Out of sight, out of mind, none of the infected can be seen right now, so some much needed rest is warranted.

"You okay Tracey?" The Orange Island native nodded, he held Marill in his arms and felt his eyes dilating at the intense night they just endured. He wasn't build for this! He was suppose to be at home, watching his favourite new seasonal anime in the comfort of his bed and blanket. Now he can kiss that life behind, and his future remain uncertain as ever.

"Y-Yeah, let me catch my breath. Look we gotta get out of here, more are coming!" Ash didn't disagree with that, the rainfall had masked most sound, making it difficult to hear footsteps or groans. They would have to rely on their pokemon superior healing capabilities to move around. He turned back to Tracey, a sigh of relief that his friend managed to make it out unscathed physically. Though the shivering and dilating pupils told another story on his mental health. The absolute horror of watching people you vaguely recognized, turned into some monstrosity you can barely tell apart.

"We need to get the others, we move as a squad." The sudden strict and serious tone from Ash earned a nod from Tracey, deep breaths. No time to panic, they have to stay calm. Pokemon are attacking, humans seemed to turn into zombies, this is a hellish nightmare. In the distance of the car park, there were sources of light flickering about, orange hue light that were an indication of flames erupting from cars and gas tanks explosions. Tracey dearly hoped that the other boys and classmates are safe, but given the sheer speed of the Rattatas and zombies, it was very unlikely most of them escaped.

"I- yeah but where do we go?" Ash thought for a moment, the beads of sweat that cumulated from all the running and sprinting gathered on his forehead. He wiped them momentarily, if choosing the most optimal place for safety, their school would be the best option. No police sirens or cars can be heard or seen, the EMP that wiped their devices clean seemed to be effective at paralyzing communication and civil operations.

"The school, it's big enough and they are pokemon in the enclosure that are friendly." Tracey bit her lower lip, pokemon that are friendly seemed to be a distant dream now. Who knows if their own starters would turn on them? He turned to Marill, innocent and sweet as ever, it stared back at him with a cheerful smile. Gosh, what the hell is he thinking? Marill would never do that to him!

"You think they won't attack us?" Ash felt Pikachu jumped off his shoulders, the electric type scouted ahead to see if there any sign of foes waiting to feast on them. The Pallet Town teen frowned and placed a thumb on his lips, chances are the community outbreak in Pewter is related to the Rattata swarming the streets and attacking them, but where the hell did the human infection came from? Gary mentioned that Professor Oak discovered a pokerus mutation akin to rabies that is infecting the pokemon, so there is a theory that the zombies they fought were humans bitten by the infected Rattatas. Of course this is all mere speculation and nothing conclusive yet...

"I don't know man, they move like zombies." Tracey waved Ash off, they could ponder this later once they are safe. The car park while quiet and open, is absolutely the perfect place to be swarm by all sides.

"That's what I thought too- ah who the hell knows? We figure it out later. Let's go." Pikachu nodded and ushered them to follow him, small door from the back was slightly ajar, but there was no sign of anyone passing through. The two humans stood behind their pokemon leading the way, they have exit the alley ways that showed no sign of change, just the standard garbage disposals and broken wooden debris. They braved the rain and continued forward, the sights of the citystreets being empty was as ominous as it can get. Their heart stopped momentarily when they heard Rattata squeaks below them, the vermin's chorus grew louder and louder until all of them poured out from the streets opposite them.

"Rattatas are using the sewers to travel around the cities... even Pidgeys are also attacking look." Tracey narrowed his eyes and pulled out a pen and notepad from his pocket. The drenched paper and the lack of light made it difficult, but he managed to jot down some of the infected pokemon behavior down. Any information and clue regarding their behavior and movement would be crucial for their survival, numerous zombies movies and game had prepared them for this pivotal moment, as cliche and stupid as it sounds. The flocks of Pidgeys that storm the skies above was horrible sight, their eyes were in the shade of crimson red as they circled the skies in a spiral like movement. Infected flying pokemon... that changes everything doesn't it?

"Are the pokemon- you don't think that those zombies are caused by pokemon right?" Ash paused momentarily to Tracey's question, the figures that were standing on the streets were all infected humans. The young man put one foot forward, careful not to step on the glass shards or wooden boards that may give away their position. Piles of vehicles can be seen crashed onto one another in the T-junction, the lack of operational traffic light and sheer panic must had caused the congestion. What's worse was the fact, these pile of cars were blocking the route to the interstate highway, which meant no vehicle can go through them without clearing off the path.

"Could be-" The sound of a tree branch snapping near them froze them momentarily, they slowly glanced above and saw the flock of pidgeys circling above them starting to locate the source of the sound. Seconds pass before one of the Pidgeys saw them and they gave a ear piercing screech that alerted the rest of its brethren. Why the hell did the tree branch fell now!?

"RUN!" The sound of the cackling thunder and flashes of lightning blared across their eyes and ears , the two human make their dash as the flock of bloodthirsty pidgeys began swooping downwards to them. The stationary zombies that once remain still and inactive all began to make their way towards them, cutting and cordoning off their path as they began to run towards Ash and Tracey in a frenzied state.

"This way!" Their sneakers slapped against the puddles of the road, splashing about as they turned left at a corner. The brick stone pathway and cobblestone paths were wet and slippery, causing some of them infected that chased them to fall over. The rows of cafe and restaurants Ash once visited pass by in a blur, with many of the wooden tables and chairs acting as barricades. The noise of their escape drew the other hordes and worse still, the nimble Rattatas, they squeaked at the sight of fresh meat and started to charged at them with reckless abandon.

"Leaf Tornado!" A storm of leaves began to fall from the sky, razor sharp and serrated, the leaves cut through the horde and stun locking most of them and pelting the flying Pidgey's wings, pinning them down to the ground. Ash turned to his savior and lit up at the sight of Trip and Paul drenched in rain. Their celebratory reunion was cut short however, when one of the Pidgeys who narrowly avoided the attack began to nosedive towards Paul.

"PAUL!" The purpled haired man flinched when the the squawk from above descended upon him, but the sound of electricity charging up and being discharged in powerful blow quickly made him opened his eyes. His shock expression turned into a smirk when his Elekid had nimbly saved him in the nick of time, it's sharp claws were connected through the neck of a struggling Pidgey with another uppercut punch to the abdomen, Elekid sent the Pidgey back to its flock, generating shockwaves that shook the foundation block.

"Nice one Elekid, come on let's go!" The four friends nodded and scooped their started up in their arms, they make a sharp turn around the corner, running seemingly with no goal or destination in sight. All they knew was to run away from the horde that was chasing them, but energy and stamina were rapidly depleting. They were tired and bogged down by the rain and grime, it was cold and wet, movement was sluggish and their damp clothes seemed to slow them down. They reached the city square, where sandbags and numerous police cars can seen barricading off a point.

"HELP!" Police officers and civilians fending off the area turned to the source of the sound, the sight of teenagers running towards them in a battered state with hordes of infected rushing down the block told them everything they needed know. The commanding officer manning it stations aimed down its M16 assault rifle, lining the ironsight just above the teenager's heads and down at the infected horde. His comrades took their respective positions, with their Arcanines and Machamps forming a defensive blockade near them.

"GET DOWN!" The boys eyes widened at sight of guns pointing towards them and immediately crawled on the ground, with their hands covering their head. Ash held Pikachu close to him and curled up into a defensive ball and before long, the sound of gun fire and incendiary rounds can be heard. The groans and screeches of the infected screaming in agony and pain as the bullet shot through their torso and retinas were deafening, but streams of flame burning them alive and the smell of burnt corpses were borderline nauseating to the teenagers. The grunting sounds of Machamp slamming onto the ground shook the ground, Ash took the chance and opened one of his eyes, the police Machamps jumped into the fray and brave the flames to decimate the Ratatas. They effortlessly dispatched and shredded the human infected, with each of their four arms bashing away the horde of Rattata. Seconds passed and the sound of gunfire soon subsided, allowing the rest of their boys to uncoil from their fear.

"You kids okay?" The warm voice of the police officer brought them back their senses, they opened their eyes and the sheer carnage behind them would forever change them. Blood and organs were splattered everywhere, many of the infected human and pokemon were eviscerated and disemboweled. Crushed and shattered, the horde that were in the few hundreds were now reduced to zero.

"W-We're okay." The Machamp walked back the camp, the visible bite marks were there on their body. But the officers looked relatively calm despite knowing their partner pokemon were bitten by the infected, the same partner that easily kill them with relative ease. Ash slowly walked away from the pokemon, any moment now and they would turn on them and kill them. The chief officer grinned and held his firearm tight, a rather chirpy individual considering the hellscape there are in.

"Good, we thought the East side of Saffron was lost. Are you all student trainers?" The boys nodded with their partner pokemon in their arms, they were luck to have their starter next to them. They would have not make it out of the compound and city alive if it weren't for them.

"Yeah."

"Then you're lucky, most people here don't even have pokemon to protect them. Stay close, and don't go near the sewers or manholes. Bastards like to ambush there. Head to the city's town hall, you would be safe there." With little to no where to go, the boys gave their thanks and gratitude before running towards Saffron City Town Hall. The area seemed to be cleared as their bodies piled up by the side, many of them bodies were burnt or still have residue of embers on them, indicating a quick cremation was done. Despite the rain's effort to dampened their spirits, the boys press on from the fatigue and pain on their leg, breaking through it all to reach a safe place.

"We still heading towards the Town Hall?" Tracey spoke suddenly, his breath panting and hyperventilating rapidly. They need to rest, his legs were giving out and his lungs seems to be bursting from his chest. He was freezing cold and the complete darkness from the city streets is not helping with his poor mental health state, things that weren't suppose to be there seemed to haunt him. His mind is preying on his weakened state, hallucinating sounds and whispers that taunt him to go closer.

"What was your original plan?" The boys took much needed respite inside a building that were boarded up with planks, though the fortification of the place seemed to fell short with many nails and planks laying on the floor. Their finally sat down and breathed a sigh of relief, their pokemon were on keen watch as they began to survey around the area for any sign of infected.

"The school, big enough for all of us, have pokemon in the enclosure and we know the place inside out." Paul grunted at Ash's suggestion and took a vape from his pocket. He attempted inhale it for stress relief sake, only to realized that the heating component was broken, probably by the EMP that wiped out most of modern day technology. He scoffed at the results and threw it in the corner of the room. Like Ash's Pikachu, his Elekid stated to act up in pain when the power went out, it was a miracle Elekid still answer his commands even in his state of pain and confusion, otherwise the swarm of Rattata would have make short work of him. The amused smile on his friends face earned a chuckle from Paul, nice to know that he can entertain them like this, Arceus knows that he was putting on a brave facade too.

"Not bad idea, we can camp at the roof tops too." Trip added on, his expensive and custom made camera still slung around his neck. No longer functional, but it holds too much sentimental value to get rid of it, even if it was a hassle running with it. Ash narrowed his eyes, in traditional zombielike scenarios, camping on the roofs is a smart thing to do, but after seeing Pidgeys being capable of infecting them, it was just not possible.

"Pidgeys are a thing." Trip and Paul stared at Ash before sighing, they leaned their head against their walls and mumbled in frustration.

"Never mind we camp at the highest floor." It was the safest option they have, schools are huge, plenty of equipment and materials, but most importantly of all, there are many books there they can help them in a time like this where the power and internet is down. The Town Hall is a tempting option given that it is touted as a safe zone, but Ash had watched too many zombie movies tropes where the supposed 'safe haven' has one infected individual who turned on everyone. Logically speaking, heading towards the Town Hall may not be feasible too given how far it is. It's impossible to tell the time now given everything is in the state of stone age, but Ash knew it was very late and they were exhausted from all the running.

"It's night time too, I doubt there is a lot of people in the school, unless they are thinking like us." The school is just a 10 minutes walk from his place, but because the downtown area is swarmed with infected, the series of detour and misdirections forced them to circle around the area. Given the close proximity of the places, it was possible the school is swarmed with students as well.

"Let's go then, the rain and zombies ain't stopping, so why should we?" Their well-earned break soon ended and it was time to be on the move, the outside streets were frigid cold, and the eerie silence of the city was oddly tranquil, as it there were in a post-apocalyptic film where no one is insight. To have all the city yourself and a pin drop can be heard echoing from a distance. But they aren't in a film, nor were they alone in the city.

"Those are fucking zombies aren't they?" Paul spoke candidly as always, his eyes darting around the streets for any sign of movement. Trip uneased expression become one of indifference, he personally saw one of the nearby shopkeeper being bitten by a Rattata. The blood lost did little to stop his body from convoluting violently and before long, it's erratic movement and twitching body rose up from the ground. Saliva and froth formed in hi mouth and the audible gasp for air was hoarse and rancid, Trip barely had the time to observe the further details when it rushed towards him with his strong grip. Fortunately, Snivy Vine Whip managed to dislocate its shoulder and bind its legs together, allowing time for them to run.

"Saw one transform after being bitten by a Rattata, looks like the wild pokemon attacks might be virus related." The worst of the theories seemed to be true, Professor Oak and his associates were onto something when they were investigating. If a bite from a infected pokemon is enough to turn them into cannibalistic zombies, then perhaps it was high time they wear some armor. Padded or thick layers of clothing works wonders in softening blows and concussion, but it also adds resistance to bites and tear. Unfortunately, Ash lacked the tailoring skills or equipment needed to make homemade gambeson. Perhaps if they find a good fortified position, they can start gearing up. Kevlar wouldn't be a bad option, better than anything they can possibly make and offers more protection. But they have to loot that from the corpses of dead soldiers and police officers, which frankly doesn't exactly make Kevlar or ballistic armor the best looking choice.

"Once we reach the school, we kit ourselves out." The sound of a moving vehicle caught their attention, wasn't all the electrical devices all fried or down? They stealthily hid behind a broken down car and saw a bus filled with passengers and tourist, the headlights shine brightly in the city of darkness. The bus driver looked fatigue but it managed to stop by in one of the streets, presumably for stocking up or resting.

"No way!" The boys turned to Trip, they noted the look of hope in his eyes. He gripped his Snivy tighter and gulped, this was his chance. The tourism banner adorning on the side of the bus told him everything he needed to know, a way home.

"Trip?" The Unovan remained completely in shock before the words magically flow from his mouth.

"T-That bus, it's an airport bus isn't it?" The boys knew what he was thinking, this was perhaps their ticket back home. They are international students after all, their family should be safe and sound outside of Kanto. These foreign students have priority of being send back to their homes.

"Let's go ask." The rest nodded, though they have their guard up in case the driver and passenger panics and turn on them. They slowly approached the public transport vehicle, the windows were stained with blood and visible scratch mark can be see on the bus. It's has been through the batter but was otherwise in great shape. Seeing that everyone was tired and scared, Paul was the first one to knock on the glass door, spooking the bus driver as his hands nearly hit the brakes.

"What- oh, you guys are normal thank goodness. Please! Hop on before they find us, we are heading towards the airport." The passengers of the bus were obviously in distress, but were otherwise unharmed. Many of them were just citizens in their business suit, not trained for a crisis situation like this. Ironically, young students like them were the most likely to survive and thrive in a crisis scenario like this. From a young age, all pokemon trainee students were taught to survive in the wilds, scavenge for resources and learning basic First Aid procedure and humanitarian aid. Not to mention they have powerful pokemon by their side, effectively acting as their personal guards while cityfolks scarcely have any.

"You're heading towards the Kanto International Airport?" The bus driver nodded, his eyes darting towards the gas tank, half a tank, barely manageable given the sheer distance to the airport, but it should be enough.

"Yes, but we need to hurry. I heard from my colleagues that they are starting road blocks, no matter though! My Rotom would find the most optimal path." Ash had some doubts in this, an airport seemed like the most likely place that wild pokemon would attack, infecting the humans that are in close quarter space. But at the same time, it also the most secured place with auxiliary police often station there with heavy equipment and powerful pokemon that were tasked with identifying potential threats like Metagrosses and Absols. It's a coinflip whether would it hold or fall, but given the circumstances, it might be the only way home.

"Guys I-"

"Go, we understand." Trip smiled at the nod from Ash, he was worried if they would view him as a coward who would abandoned his friends. He shook his head and grabbed their arms, pulling them towards the bus.

"Come with me! We get to the airport, it has to be protected and safe!" Paul and Tracey exchanged looks, they were conflicted whether they should trust a stranger with their lives but given they would be stuck in the city, the chances of reaching the airport might their best option.

"Trip has a point, Paul, Tracey, you guys go." The trio widened their eyes, why did Ash left himself out. All of them should stick together, they stand a better chance of surviving together in these times. It is foolish to leave him here alone, he would not survive a day in the darkened city.

"What about you Ash?"

"I'm not going anywhere without my mom, I'm staying here." The defiant tone was admirable, but also stupid. If he wants to reach Pallet Town, there was no way he can reach them on foot. The best case scenario is they reach the airport and hoped to god Mrs Ketchum and the rest of the Pallet Town residence were evacuated too. The truth was most likely that Delia was killed or infected, but the boys did not had the heart to tell Ash this.

"We can go to the airport and get help Ash! You would be all alone here!" Ash clenched his fists, the downpour of the rain shimmered in front of the headlights. He should go with them, being alone in this city would not be good for his survival or mental health. So it was settled, he would go with them and-

"Oh Arceus I heard them, please make your decision!" The frantic voice from the bus driver was swiftly interrupted by a Rattata slamming against the windows of the bus, nearly breaking into the bus with its vicious teeth. Panic set in quickly a the bus driver slammed the gas pedal forward, plowing through the horde of infected human running towards them with blood bleeding from their face.

"Ash!" The young man heard the faint sound of his friends screaming his name, his eyes darted and realized that the horde of infected were not targeting him, they were after the people in the bus. His heart beat faster, any more damage to the bus and it would completely break down. The screams from the women passengers and his friends crying in despair snapped something within him, he didn't care anymore.

"Pikachu draw their attention to me." The electric mouse hesitated for a brief moment, but accepted his trainer decision nevertheless. It shot a bolt of lighting towards the broken vehicle that were obstructing the bus' path, drawing the attention of the frenzied horde and clearing the path for the bus in the process. The successful diversion was short lived when the horde started to claw and charged their way towards Ash, without moment to lose, he quickly sprinted towards a nearby alleyway. The bus driver took advantage of the oppurtunity and drove forward, ignoring the protesting cries of Ash's friends as they plead him to turn back for him.

Nimbly as he go, the young man could barely make out the road ahead of him with the rain and darkness. He accidentally kick a box of glass bottles, nearly tripping in the process as the audible glass shatter further drew the surrounding infected. He gritted his teeth and pushed forward, with Pikachu valiantly defending his trainer by picking off the lone infected that flew above them. But alas, amidst his panic, exertion and horrible sense of direction, he found himself trapped in an alley way.

"Shit, dead end." His heart pounded, was this the end? To die alone in the cold alley streets while all of his friends make it out unscathed? Was it worth it to save his friends so they can reunite with their loved ones while his mother is forced to wonder if her son is still alive? His eyes dilated and tears flowed from his eyes, this is not how it supposed to end! His heart sank when the gnawing shriek of the infected were in close proximity. He should be at home right now, in the warm comfort of his mother's embrace! Not dying in the cold wet streets of Saffron! Amidst his trainer's shell shocked state, Pikachu stood in front of Ash in a defensive position, he is not going down without a fight! He would discharged all electricity within him, one last violent explosion to electrocute as many of them as possible. The electric focused and began charging electricity, the streaks of lightning coursing around his body as if it was a forcefield began to light up the surrounding are in one bright yellow glow. Ash was not in the condition to give orders, and Pikachu is willing to do anything to protect him. The first crowd of infected came into view as they turn a sharp corner, their grotesque monsters screamed in agony as they fling their lifeless bodies and amputated limp towards them when suddenly-

"Golem!" Akin to the force of a thousand cannonballs, a powerful Golem bolted through from the nearby brick walls and perforate through, slamming and killing all of them infected crowd instantly with the sheer impact and force. The bricks flew like shrapnel and lodged onto the heads and torso of the Ratattas and humans, knocking all of them off their footing and causing serious concussions. But the staunch saviors were done yet, a triumphant roar can be hear and the subsequent screams of pain followed. A ferocious Aggron slammed it's sharp metallic tail against the lesser Rattatas, knocking all of them out in one wide swing. Boulders and stones were hurled at the flying infected, bringing all of them down to mercy of gravity as Golem make short work of the grounded foes, it's body curled up and began to roll over the horde, their fragile flesh skin affected by necrosis and decay were instantly squashed by the sheer rough force of the rollout. It wasn't long before the once dominant threat that almost ended Pikachu and Ash's life, were instantly snuffed out and flattened. The audible wailings of the infected were now replaced by the tranquil sound of rainfall. Pikachu squeaked and began to pat his trainer, letting him know the worst is over and that they are safe.

"P-Pikachu." The electric mouse beamed and nuzzled against his trainer's cheeks, the innocent smile that had yet to be tainted despite the horrors they witnessed were still up for precious display. Amidst their warm hugs and tear streams of relief, the sound of footfalls hitting puddles alerted them of a potential threat. Ash slowly stood up and walked towards the grand entrance Golem had made, the gaping hole in the wall that allowed them access to the town square were filled with countless bodies of the infected, both human and pokemon alike. The towering sight of a familiar Aggron and Golem soaked in rain and blood were in view, yet they looked completely docile with their eyes still retaining their sense of control.

"Ash!" He barely had time to register the feminine voice when he felt the pair of soft arms wrapped around him. The cold and damp clothing were cold to the skin, yet the undeniable fiery warmth was blazing in his heart. He wordless hugged back without thinking, holding her tight to his body as the sheer comfort of a hug were sorely needed. He bawled his eyes out on her shoulders, throwing away his pride as he sobbed at the reality of the situation. The comforting hands reached over his damp hair, stroking them softly as she hummed a sweet and motherly tune, reassuring him that everything would be alright.

"It's okay Ash, shh I'm here." That voice, there was no doubt about it. He blinked his tears away and reluctantly part his arms, he smiled widely between his tears as the beautiful woman standing before him was indeed who he thought it was.

"M-Miss Roxanne." The Rock type specialist nodded and cupped his cheeks softly before tugging his hand to her. They could comfort each other later, now they have to make haste to the school.

"Come with me quick." She climbed on top of her Aggron and pulled Ash to her, the young man found himself wrapping his arms around her waist, firmly locking him in place as his homeroom teacher gave commands to her pokemon. The mighty steel type gave a grunt and began to gallop forward in all fours. It's bright blue eyes glowed in the dark as the metal plates and jagged spikes make it impervious to any form of pitiful scratches or bites. The speed of an Aggron is grossly understated, its powerful hindlegs allows them to cover large distance while the rigid body allowed it to act as a suspension and provide stability for its riders.

"To the school." Her pokemon nodded at her command, with Golem acting as a scout who would clear a path for them through it's Bulldoze and Rollout combo. Rapidly spinning in place, it make short work of the debris, vehicles and obstructions on their path, blazing and crushing any opposition or unruly infected who were caught off guard by the ferocity and speed. Though Ash was still processing his thoughts and collecting his bearings, one thing is for certain.

His teacher is fucking awesome.

"Stay quiet okay? I will take care of everything else." Ash nodded as he sat on the comfortable gym mattress. The room was illuminated by the candles flickering on the desk, allowing Ash to finally see his teacher in earnest. Like him, she was completely drenched with her white cardigans being completely see through, revealing her set of nightwear that consist of a black bra and shorts. The young man sighed as he squeezed his jacket dry, twisting and turning it to get rid of the waters. It was fortunate Miss Roxanne came to his aid, she single handedly reduced the entire infected population by the hundreds at least. It seems that people with pokemon stand a far better chance compared to people without them, it was almost unfair.

"Miss, thank you." The fatigue and hoarse voice in Ash was evident, she frowned and placed the back of her hand on Ash's forehead, feeling his drenched hair, shivering body and rapidly burning forehead. There was no doubt about it, Ash is having a fever. She sighed and felt the gust of wind from the windows outside, it was bone chillingly cold. She closed the window shut and sat next to her student, his Pikachu being the resourceful pokemon snuggled on a red beanbag. They were currently in the Teacher's Office, the doors were closed shut with Aggron and Golem resting on their doors to block the entrance. The moment was calm and tranquil, a far cry from what just happened. She was tired, she was already sleep deprived during the past week due to work related stress, now she had to go through this abomination. She closed her eyes briefly, her twintails cascaded down straight as she barely had the time to be decent when all hell broke loose.

"Miss if you're tired, you should sleep first. I would take watch." The sudden statement from Ash made her smile, she turned to him and could tell he was struggling to stay awake as well. She shuffled closer to him, shoulder touching shoulder. Though normally a breach of protocol and teacher-student etiquette, Roxanne knew that societal rules and norms meant little in this situation. She desperately needed a shoulder to lay on and Ash was just the perfect fit.

"You're sweet Ash but please rest first, I'm your teacher. It's my job to protect you." Ash smiled and leaned his head on her shoulders, she flinched from the frozen contact at first, but slowly warmed up to it. Her elbow were on her knees, her eyes gazing upon the shelves filled with globes, books, trophies and antiques. A bitter reminder of the life they once had hours ago, the very office where Roxanne would joke and chat with her colleagues, had now become a refuge from the infected.

"Why don't we take shifts? Or if you want to talk, I can stay up with you." It was adorable to see him like this, she wasn't sure if it was maternal instincts kicking in, but she found herself desperately wanting to protect this sweet child. There was no doubt Ash has been through a lot tonight. When she heard the sound of the infected rushing toward her, she thought she would need to prepare for a long fought battle. But her Golem was quick to sense something was amiss after witnessing many of the infected turning at an alley corner, without missing a beat, her Golem began to spin rapidly and broke through a nearby wall, cannonbolting through the alley ways to dispatch the horde of the infected. The sight confused her but quick to ascertain the situation, she followed through once the dust settled. Her heart beat rapidly and her ruby red eyes widened at sight of her student whimpering in fear. Instincts took over and the rest was history.

"I like that Ash, takes my mind off- you know." He beamed and began to answer the questions Roxanne had for him. Mostly about his week before tonight, it was a lighthearted and fun topic, but the inevitable question of how he managed to escape rear its ugly head. Roxanne listen in complete silence over how Ash and Pikachu managed to escape, the power outage, the first contact with the infected, how he felt when he was trapped at the alley, complete helpless and scared, everything was laid out for her. It was a difficult sight, to see her normally cheerful and calm student being so afraid, but in some ways it gave her the courage to be more open too.

"I see, so they are heading to the airport... highways should be congested with the broken vehicles." Ash nodded slowly, his friends should hopefully be at the airport by now. In all honesty he wasn't sure how long would it take from Saffron to Vermillion, he just hoped they are safe and sound.

"The bus driver said he had a Rotom to map out a path, and not to mention the boys have their pokemon to clear a path too. Shouldn't be too difficult, don't worry miss." The teacher crossed her arms, she rubbed her bare arms to generate some warmth.

"I'm worried about the other humans, if people see a functioning car, their desperation might make them resort to violence." Roxanne was honestly wondering how that bus was even functioning given every vehicle had broken down in the city. Even her own car couldn't start, perhaps something was amiss. That bus was an airport bus on route to Saffron, it is possible it came from the other cities or straight from the airport. Ash and her had already deduced that a city-wide EMP wiped out everything, so vehicles out of the city might still be functional.

"I- yeah, I guess people would want to own a functioning vehicle right now." His voice trailed off at the end, his attention was preoccupied at the sight of his teacher shivering from the wet clothes that deprived her skin's ability to breath. Ash looked around and found no blankets or functional heaters near them. He felt his face flushed and heart beat faster at a potential idea to warm both oh them up. He couldn't do that, she would freak out if he did! But she was shivering and so was he, both of them can help each other. Between his desire to cuddle with his teacher for survival and let's be honest, self indulgence, the conflicted young man threw caution and modesty out of the window and embraced practically and passion.

"Ash? Are you-" She was silenced immediately when Ash hugged her all of a sudden, their damp clothes clinging to each other. His arms snaked around her body, pushing his chest against her shoulders. His efforts of warming her up had the exact opposite effect given their wet clothes were just lowering the core temperature of their bodies, making it difficult for their body to regulate them. She sighed and pry Ash off from her, which immediately drew a guilt-ridden reaction.

"I-I'm sorry- I didn't mean to-" Instinctively he curled himself in a ball, averting his gaze away from her as he created distance between them. The young teacher placed a hand on his hair, ruffling it softly to let him know that she wasn't mad. The sound of shirts being unbutton caught Ash's attention, his core body was heating up rapidly at the sight of his teacher taking of her clothes, revealing her smooth skin and undergarments that clung to her figure perfectly. The warm candle lighting worked wonders on her skin, the occasional flickers and shadows just made the scene more intimate than it should be. Her red eyes met his hazel brown ones, the sophisticated and mature woman felt her cheeks reddening seeing her student encaptivated by her body.

'Of course he is going to stare, he is a young man.' Roxanne glanced away and reluctantly took off her shorts, the cool air of the night breathed against her exposed thighs and legs. She reached for the towel and began to dry herself from the moisture left from her wet clothes. She bit her lip and slowly turned to Ash, eyeing his black shirt that clung to his chest. Arceus, she couldn't believe what she is going to say to her student now, but this was a life or death situation, she couldn't afford to be cold feet around this. The only source of warmth if their bodies huddling together, free from damp and moisture of their clothes.

"Ash take off your clothes." The simple request almost short-circuited Ash's brain, he managed a nod and didn't argue against her logic or case. He slowly stripped his top and placed it on the nearby chair, the embarrassment of being topless around his teacher bothered him more than he cared to admit, but Miss Roxanne looked unfazed as ever, in fact she was getting closer.

"Let me help you." Her voice was low, almost huskily so. He wasn't sure if his mind was playing tricks on his hearing and twisting her words to something suggestive, but right now he was at the mercy of his teacher's charm. He felt his belt being unbuckled and his pants trailing off to his knees, revealing his black checker boxers to her.

"Miss." She could hear the uncomfortable tone, but she had to remain resolute in this.

"J-Just go along with it, I promise you it would make you warmer." The stammers from her was cute, but Ash was wise enough to keep it to himself. Slowly, Roxanne wrapped her arms around her student and pulled his shoulders to him, pinning her mature and voluptuous body against his own hot-blooded adolescent one. The soft warm body of his teacher had an instant effect on him, a little too effective in heating up certain regions. He ignored the sweet scent of Roxanne's hair conditioner, looks like the rain did little to affect her hygiene.

"You smell nice." The low mumblings from Ash shocked her as much as it shocked Ash, the young man quickly realized the creepy statement and began to dart his eyes around, why the hell did he say that? His teacher is deliberately throwing away her dignity and pride just for his sake here! Why is he enjoying this situation? It was perverse and sick! The Pallet town teenager withdraw his hand and turned to aside, hoping that Miss Roxanne won't be too cross or disgusted by him. But just as he was about to apologize, he felt a pair of soft mounds pushing against his back and a pair of creamy arms wrapped around his chest. The warm hug instantly washed away the guilt or shame, it seems that she didn't mind the comment or perhaps she didn't care about keeping up appearances anymore.

"I was in the bath before everything happen. I was drinking wine to wind down the night." The soft whispers tickled his ears, but Ash was more amused at the vivid thought of his teacher relaxing on the bathtub with a wine glass in hand and pair of cucumber slices covering her eyes with her face covered in moisturizer.

"Sound nice, I always thought that only rich people do that." The dry tone from him earned a giggle from her, she slowly got comfortable to the feeling over hugging Ash close to him. It was undeniable weird and if she had to be honest, the taboo nature of this situation just makes it a little more exciting for her racing heartbeat.

"I don't do it all the time, only when I'm stressed. Work has been hectic lately, I thought I would be free after marking your papers." The silence from his teacher drew concerns from Ash, he turned around to face her, only to realize how close her face is to his. The two shared an uncomfortable glance at close proximity between them, the young lad was given a clear view of his teacher's impressive ample bust, to the point where he question if he really needed this body warming session anymore. Quick to distract himself from thinking intrusive and unwholesome thoughts, he turn to the situation that plagued them.

"What now miss? Are you heading back to Hoenn?" Roxanne certainly didn't think of that, she was more preoccupied with getting out of her compound and fighting her way through. The warm beach of Hoenn beckons to her right now, relaxing on a hammock at Slateport Beach seems like heaven.

"I plan to but right now I'm not sure. I'm too tired to think, let's discuss on the morning okay?" Ash could already tell that she did not want to discuss topic, she was as disturbed at this situation as him. He looked down and found his hands naturally touched the bed space between them. His fingers were in view, completely clean from the grime and blood.

"Sorry." Her hand reached to entwinned his, locking their fingers together. Her raspy bedroom voice was music to his ears, a lullable in its own right. The sight of her smiling softly at him sent a blaze to Ash's heart, he had never been in such a situation before. But rather than being nervous and panicking, his was physically too exhausted and mentally too tired to care.

"It's alright, you're asking questions because you care." Ash felt a pleasurable chill down his spine, the low whispers were akin to his own private ASMR experience. But Ash was tenacious in his conviction, he pushed aside the intrusive thoughts and gripped their clasped fingers tighter, feeling her soft skin and warmth that felt tangible. It feels surreal to touch someone like this, in a way he can't quite describe it.

"I do care Miss, thank you for everything. I would have been-" A finger on his mouth silenced him, the soft delicate finger dance around his lips.

"Shh, don't say anything, don't think about it okay? You're with me now, I'll keep you safe." Her words brought much comfort to him, she really is like his mother. Sweet and gentle, but fiercely protective and determined, perhaps that's why he feel so at ease and comforted. To have a maternal figure snuggling close to him like this, warming him up with her own body warmth and calming scent, it was as close to home as he can get right now.

"What about the others?"

"I don't know... I haven't heard from the other teachers or staff members. Frankly speaking, I thought all of them would be at the school." Ash slowly nodded, he too was hoping that they are other likeminded survivors in the school, but when they finally reached the compound, the place was barren. Aside from a few infected that were stuck on fence gates and clawing their way in, the school was complete devoid of life.

"So is it just us who survived?" Roxanne refused to believe that, her colleagues and even some of her students can easily make quick work of the humans infected. It is the pesky Ratattas and Pidgeys that pose a threat, in fact all of the infected pokemon they came across are nothing but them. Something is amiss here, if the infection and virus spread indiscriminately, there should be other city pokemon or even trainer infected pokemon. Her eyes darted to her two pokemon, the chances of them getting infected is also high too given their reliance on physical and close quarter combat.

"I doubt it, all teachers here have their pokemon with them. I suspect that some of them are holed up in their house or actively looking out for their students." That make sense, if they can afford to defend their houses, many of them would do. Even logically you should get out and find some place more fortified and defensible, the fear of the unknown and the comfort of staying indoors can be overwhelming.

"Have you seen anyone else?" Roxanne thought about a moment, she tucked a loose strand of hair behind her hair and felt the strange relaxing comfort of talking to her student so freely like this, it was almost liberating.

"Yes, many of them headed towards the Town Hall, maybe there's where everyone is." That make sense, the police officer that saved his life also ushered them to head to the Town Hall. With no form of communication, they have to rely on word of mouth to spread it around. The Town Hall is located on top of a hill, surrounded by rivers and trees, it was the perfect place to hold out against hordes of enemies. The vantage point provided and the natural barriers allowed it to bottleneck all the mindless horde to a place, making it easy pickings for armed forces.

"Why did you came to the school then miss?" Roxanne placed her hands on her stomach, locking them together on top of them as she stared at the blank ceiling above them.

"Well I thought some of the students would make their way to the school, I almost decided against coming here but- I'm glad I came." The emotional and soft delivery made Ash smile, he mirrored her movements and face his back against the mattress, his eyes looking at the sky above through the window. The countless stars that flickered in the night was breathtaking, with no light pollution from the city skylines or streets, the view was absolutely stunning. Ironically, it took a literal zombie apocalypse to make Ash appreciate little moments like these.

"Me too." Roxanne smiled and stared at the same constellations and stars dancing in veil of the moonlight.

"What do you think cause all of this to happen miss?"

"I don't know, but one thing is for certain, the wild pokemon attacks reported earlier are confirmed to be related to this. The Rattatas attacked from the sewers and residential areas, many of those who do not have pokemon panicked and- Ash, can we not talk about this?" It was a bitter memory that she desperately want to suppress, Ash lowered his eyes and turned to her, reaching for her hands and squeezing them to offer her comfort. He ignored how good her soft stomach is against his skin and focused on paying attention to her.

"Sorry, I won't." Drowsy and almost on a brink of collapse, Roxanne knew Ash was struggling to stay awake. She placed the back of her hand on his forehead again, the fever has mostly subsided but he still needs medication and plenty of fluids. Tomorrow's agenda would be acquiring medicine, water and food, what comes after can be further discussed.

"I don't want you to dwell on this too much, it's not good for you." Ash slowly nodded, feeling pampered and safe having his teacher's hands on his forehead like this, it reminded him of his own mother doing this to him when he was sick. But she had a point, replaying the awful scenarios in his mind, the wretched screams and seeing people crying for help, all of it was so traumatizing. He has never seen anything like this before, the gore, the fleshy injuries, and the carnage that came with it. Their mental health should be prioritized.

"Sleep okay? I would keep watch." Roxanne held back a sigh seeing the defiance in Ash, he shook his head and attempted to protest but fortunately, a furry little friend was on her side.

"Pika." The electric mouse patted his trainer's head, ushering him to listen to the pretty teacher and go to sleep. The electric mouse was energized from the brief rest and he is ready to keep watch if need to be. Roxanne chuckled at the antics of the electric mouse and patted it head.

"See? Even Pikachu think so, sleep Ash. I promise you I would get some rest too. Golem and Aggron would keep us safe." At the mention of the two staunch rock types, Roxanne turned to them and find their slumbering state adorable. These two hulking giants can be absolute goofballs sometimes. Ash turned to his two saviors and smiled at them, he forgotten to expressed his thanks for saving their lives.

"I almost forgot to thank you two for saving Pikachu and I, so thank you!" Perhaps it was the drowsiness, but Ash was certainly more cute than she remembered. Her Golem despite his slumbering gave his signature thumbs up before returning back to sleep, a rather comical situation in all honesty. Roxanne chuckled at the sight and turn back to Ash, she gasped at the precious sight of his adorable sleeping face, after everything they been through tonight, it was a miracle he can sleep like this. She slowly cupped his cheeks, rubbing them softly with her thumb before retracting from how much physical contact she was giving him. She sighed inwardly, and rubbed her face to get rid of the drowsiness that lowered her defences. As much she wants to sleep right now, she had to keep watch just in case.

"Pika." The staunch protector of Ash Ketchum tugged Roxanne's hands, ushering her to sleep as well. The sight of the cuddly electric type puffing his chest and pointing at himself filled with confidence brought much joy to the seasoned teacher. She glanced back at Ash and found the rhythmic rise and fall of his chest comforting, she pushed aside his messy hair strands that covered his eyes and found herself staring at his slumbering face. She didn't expect to see him in the streets, but she was glad she came to his aid. It made sleeping so much more easier too, having someone she knew and trust personally next to her brought her much comfort and security. A yawn escaped her lips, her eyes lid drooped ever so slightly, maybe a few minutes of shut eye won't hurt. Her eyes slowly closed and before long, the student and teacher pair fell asleep next to each other.

The intensity of the morning sun light earned a groan from the young man. Twist and turn, he buried his nose deeper onto the side of the mattress. Yet his nose found something far more soft and desirable than the rough mattress, the scent and allure brought clarity to the young man. He slowly opened his eyes and cleared them of mucus with his fingers and thumbs, his vision was blurry and he was undeniably groggy. He let out a sleepy yawn and stretched his limbs forward, despite the poor mattress quality he slept quite well! His eyes soon fell onto a pair of luscious thighs that touched against his own, his eyes trailed the figure and followed them, until his eyes met Miss Roxanne's slumbering face. His heart beat at the raunchy scenario, both of them were half naked and if anyone still alive in the city barged in then and there, Ash was certain his future prospects of getting a trainer's license was over. Not that a license matters now anyway.

A low moan escaped from her lips, the sight of her nuzzling against the mattress for more comfort was simply adorable and strangely erotic. The young man steeled himself, this was his teacher that he is leering over with! Crush or not, he can't sullied her like this with his lecherous gaze. His two hands slapped against his cheeks, ridding himself of those impure thoughts and fully awakening him. His eyes turned to his starter who unfortunately, was wide awake and watched the entire scene unfolding before it. Ash felt his cheek turning hot, the snickering from his smug starter did not help the situation one bit.

"Morning Ash." The young man turned and smiled at his teacher lazily stretching her limbs, her exposed navel and curvy body were further accentuated. She breath a sigh of content before realizing that she slept with her male student in her lingerie, a damning statement when you take out the context of the situation. Oh what is she saying? This looks bad even with the context!

"Morning Miss." Fortunately Ash didn't seemed to be embarrassed or fixated, he was as quick to move on as she was. The former gym leader took her clothe from the chair, all of them were wrinkled but at least they were dry. A fresh new pair of clothes sounds good right now. She paused and turned to her student, giving a shy smile as she raised her blouse upwards. Ash understood the situation and averted his gaze, turning his back against his teacher as he begin to put on his clothes as well. It was somehow even more lewd and erotic hearing Miss Roxanne buttoning up the shirt, his imagination went wild at the prospects, damn his teenage hormones.

"Did you sleep well?" The small talk worked wonders in distracting him, Ash managed a nod and put on his black shirt. There was the unpleasant odor of course, he didn't shower the night before and with all the sweat and rain soaking his shirt, it was a miracle Miss Roxanne managed to sleep with him with no complaints. Given they were in a school, there was no shortage of fresh gym clothes or t-shirts. Heck, there were even a shower room in the school, a good morning shower to get both of them ready.

"I did, did you?"

"Yeah." Oh this was painfully awkward, Ash was already cringing at this. What else does he say after spending a night with his hot teacher that he had a crush on? Thankfully, his red cheeks were easily mistaken for a fever, and Miss Roxanne was quick to check his temperature again.

"How is your fever?" Ash shrugged, feeling her soft hand pressing against his forehead. Despite getting a good night's sleep, he was still tired. His bone seemed like they were brittle and soft, his joints were aching and the lethargy in his body was kinda slowing him down. But he didn't had the heart to tell Roxanne that, she would simply worry over him.

"I'm a little tired but I'm okay." The strain in his voice told Roxanne everything, he needs medication.

"Let's head to the nurse room and get some medication, but first! Breakfast." A hearty breakfast even in a dire situation like this would definitely lift their spirits. Her two pokemon saluted them, with Aggron leading the way with its hulking body acting as a shield. The metal coated pokemon's eyes glowed akin to neon lights, it eyed the surrounding for any signs of threat that need a good thrashing. It wasn't long before they reach the cafeteria, once brimming with student's walking around and chattering with their friends, it is now devoid of people. The unnerving nature of an empty cafeteria with only the natural light seeping in was somehow more frightening than the scenery at night, at least at nightfall it looked like a proper horror movie set. Right now, school is supposed to be in session, students should be seen reading a book, playing their phones or even hanging out with friends over breakfast. But there was nobody, nobody but just them.

Roxanne went to the freezer and began to pull out the frozen sausages and other preservative foods. Fresh food seemed to be a luxury now, and given the unknown state of the outside world, there is many questions that need answers. Has the government collapsed? Is Saffron the only city that was attacked in such wild and rabid manner? Why is there no large military presence in the city by now? The army base is nearby and there is no excuse from the lack of infantry units stationed on the ground. She gripped the handle of the kitchen knife tight, those questions can be saved for later.

"Thankfully there is food store in the freezer, I would go prepare breakfast." It was weird seeing his teacher cooking for him, and Ash did felt a little embarrassed to have someone other than his mother to actively look out for him like this.

"Do you want me to help?"

"No you just sit there and rest, let me handle this." He pouted at the quick dismissal, she certainly thought of him as a child that needed to be coddled, though crying and breaking down in her arms probably didn't helped either in that regard. He sighed and stretched his legs, the cool crisp air of the morning dew was simply delightful. The school yard and garden was tranquil and silence, flowers and plants can be seen in their planters, many of them have bloom to dazzling array of colours. His mind then shifted to the pokemon in the school enclosure, surely they are safe right?

"Miss Roxanne, where is the rest of your pokemon?" Roxanne looked up from the moment, the loaf of bread on the cutting boards were skillfully sliced. The crust and crumbs fell and fragrant smell of yeast and wheat began to fill her sense. If this was freshly baked it would even better, but alas the only way of baking bread right now is through the old fashion way of giant clay ovens.

"Back in Hoenn, I only brought Nosepass, Aggron and Golem with me." That was surprising, Ash always thought Miss Roxanne would bring her full team with her. She like many other gym leaders participated in Gym Leader Tournaments, also known as Worlds Leaders Tournament. Her full team of rock types were incredibly strong, combined with her preference over defensive tactics, the use of constructs and terrain manipulation, Miss Roxanne earned the tittle of 'Stone Wall Maiden'. So essentially, Ash consider himself in good hands. The defensive based pokemon while less flashy and glamorous compared to offensive sweepers, serves as staunch protectors that can protect their trainer from harm. Considering that a bite from an infected is all it needed to end your lives, Ash would rather have defensive pokemon right now. The young man relaxed and watch Roxanne hummed a tune to herself, completely absorbed in the art of preparing a hearty breakfast for them, his calming morning however soon dispelled when he heard the faint sound of shoes squeaking across the floor.

"Pikachu battle stance." The electric mouse jumped on his shoulder and began to generate electricity, warming it's body up for a potential confrontation. While it could be nothing and it might be just the wind, he was not taking any chances. Ash looked behind to Roxanne and decided not to inform her over something that could be a result of his imagination. He took a deep breath and opened one of the hallway doors sealed up with tape and boxes, indicating that someone was here the night before. He narrowed his eyes when the sound of footsteps become louder, no audible groaning yet like all the infected often do, but Ash was not risking it. Hiding behind a series of boxes in the hallway, Ash assumed a two finger gesture and placed it next to his head, ready to give Pikachu the greenlight to attack. His heart pounded at the distant footfalls become louder, and an audible click to the hallway doors were heard.

"No sign of them, come on!" The familiar voice and face brought a smile to Ash, he stepped out of the boxes and waved to the man, screaming his name out of jubilant joy.

"Chase!" The other Pallet Town native almost dashed backwards with his Charmander taking positions, but the fire type halted once it realized that it was no bloodthirsty zombie hungering for flesh or wretched pokemon who wish to inflict harm, it was Ash and Pikachu! Charmander beamed and charged forward, but instead of a mighty slash of his claws or a close quarter fire punch, it was a tender hug to Ash's leg.

"Char!" The young man giggled at picked the adorable Kanto starter up, it spun it around and patted its back, carefully avoiding the fire on its tail. Seeing his starter pacified and the fact it was no zombie, Chase finally realized that his best friend had survived the ordeal and was standing right in front of him.

"A-Ash? Is that you?!" The young man attempted to reply in earnest when Chase gave a crushing hug, Pikachu had the hindsight to jump on top of the boxes and observed the scene, it was a cheerful reunion after all.

"Hey- haha it's good to see you too." Between their bro hug, Ash noted the shy and hesitant movement from the door where Chase came. Moments later, a voice echoed from the door, a voice he knew too well.

"Chase, is it safe?"

"Yeah, it's Ash! Come in guys." Ash was pleasantly surprised by the sea of students entering the hallways, majority of them were girls who came from the coordinator courses. There were familiar faces of course, Elaine, Chase's twin sister can be see smiling brightly at sight of a friendly human face. But the sound of shoes click clacking against the floor drew everyone's attention, though the newcomers were brace for confrontation, Ash extended his hand and waved them down, indicating that it was safe. It wasn't long before Roxanne and two rock type bodyguards appeared right in front of them.

"Ash! Are you- Chase? E-Everyone?" She halted her breath, her long dark brown hair flowed against the gust of wind. She barely held back a smile as she recognize some of her students.

"Roxanne? Is that you?" That accent! There was no doubt about it, Roxanne knew she wasn't the only teacher that managed to escape unscathed.

"Fantina!" The alluring teacher coordinator from Kalos smiled at the sight of her dear friend, thank Xerneas that Roxanne is safe. Her ghost type and her had fought through countless infected just to get here, ghost types prove remarkably effective in disorientating and overwhelming groups using a mixture of subterfuge and deception.

"Oh thank the stars you're okay." Roxanne beamed, her hands clutched around her dear friend's. Her eyes surveyed the students behind her, they looked shaken and scared but were otherwise safe. Concerningly however, some of them have makeshift clothes over their arms. Her eyes widened at the ramifications, were one of the students bitten by them? She swiftly turned back to Fantina, pulling her to one corner to give them privacy.

"Fantina are the students bitten? Why do they have bandages?" The grip on this woman was insane, probably due to all the strenuous and physical excavating activity Roxanne frequently indulges in her spare time. The ghost type enthusiasts sighed and patted her shoulders, she could understand her paranoia but she vetted all of her students every moment she can. There is no time to be complacent in a time like this.

"Rest assured Rox, all of them are safe. The injuries came from the debris and falling objects, I personally wrapped those bandages myself." That made sense, injuries from the infected is not the only thing they should worry about. One wrong slip and you can fall down and break your bones, or cause serious bleeding. If not treated in time, these wounds would become worse and weakened the immune system, causing severe damage to the rest of the body.

"I see, that's a relief, regardless we still need to treat their wounds." The whispers from them earned concerned looks from the students. They looked amongst each other and began to wonder if everything is okay, their teacher is arguably their anchor weight in this situation, their pillar of support and their fierce guardians. They are dependent on them, extremely so. The earthy teacher heard the sound of sizzling in the background, the greasy smell of bacon simmering on the stove quickly brought her attention. Although electrical outlets remains unusable, she had found a clever way of cooking her meal by using hot coal and a grill, coal which Golem can easily provide by heating up it's core body temperature.

"Please come in everyone, I was just preparing breakfast."

"Finally, we were starving." The flood of students entering the cafeteria without order made Roxanne sighed, even in this situation her students can remain so unruly.

"I'll help Miss Roxanne." The chorus of students heading towards the kitchen to prepare breakfast was fueled by their own innate desire to eat breakfast. Given food is scarce, Roxanne was quick to ensure that the food they have in storage does not get walloped within a day. Ash smiled at the busy scene and the chattering of students, more people is always a good sight.

"Ash, you're okay!" He blinked and turned around until he felt a pair of hands on his shoulders, he smiled widely once he recognized the two familiar faces. He didn't expect to see them here!

"Dawn, May? I'm glad you girls are okay!" The pair of coordinators nodded, their looked a little worse for wear with blood splattered on their clothes. Their hair was rough and dry, but their shining blue eyes were still filled with vigor and life.

"You too, we didn't expect to see you here." It was undeniably they were happy to see him alive and well, any familiar face is welcomed at this moment. The two girls whom he shared the pleasure of dining with were not exactly top priority in his life, but a friendly face is still a blessed sight. A sudden flare in his body temperature brought dizziness to Ash, he winced and placed a hand on his forehead, feeling it rapidly burning up.

"You're alright? You don't look so good Ash." He nodded slowly, waving Dawn's concern off as he made his way to the bench for a quick sit down. However his pained state was well observed by Miss Roxanne, the concerned teacher walked over and placed a hand on his forehead again. Though it was sudden and unexpected, Ash didn't flinch when he felt a pair of hands on his forehead, he has been well adjusted to teacher's periodic check of his temperature.

"Ash you're fever is getting worse. I will go get the medication." With little words exchanged, Roxanne exited the cafeteria with her Golem accompanying her. The young man sighed at how much he is relying on her, he is a grown man for crying out loud, a little fever won't hurt him! The brief nauseate feeling overwhelmed him for a moment, maybe a little fever would hurt him.

"Wild pokemon attacking humans I believe that, but zombies?"

"Pokemon infecting humans? Is it even possible? Isn't our genetic code pretty far apart?" The chatters from the other students caught Ash's attention. Now in a place of calm and safety, the question regarding how and why pokemon are attacking humans began to surface. It was evident that human turning into bloodthirsty cannibals were the result of pokemon infecting humans, suggesting viral transmission between fluids or bites.

"Pokenotic transmission has always existed since the first interaction between man and pokemon. If what's driving the pokemon to go on a rampage is capable of affecting humans, the sheer destruction and mayhem would be unimaginable. I mean look at the city! All our friends are just gone!" The silence from the cafeteria was after the fierce outburst from one of the students, all eyes were on her as she bitterly held back the anger and frustration. It was an awkward scene, with many of the students stopping what they were doing. None of them held it against her however, instead the sympathetic gazes told a different story of sorrow. Many of them had close friends and even partners of their own, where they are, are they alive or if they are now one of those things- those questions remained unanswered, no closure and no good byes.

"Giselle." Comforted by her friends, the once snobby and arrogant girl burrowed her head into the arms of her friends. May and Dawn can be seen surrounding her, putting a hand around her as they all began to console the sobbing girl. The difficult scene was hard to watch, the school had a total of 3000 students and only a handful made it to the school. What happened to the rest of the students is a discussion they should actively avoid.

"Still no news?" Ash looked upwards and smiled at the sight of Chase holding two glasses of water, the two young man sat side by side with Chase offering the other glass of water to Ash.

"No signal, even if it does work, the phone's batteries dry." The two friends sat by side, admiring the rows of benches and table devoid of stains and spills on the table. It was remarkably clean, sterile even.

"You know, I always wanted a school camping trip, this is as close as it can get." Ash snorted at Chase's goofy smile, an overnight stay at a school is always something they wanted to do. The creepy music room, the damp gentleman's toilet and the eerie library in the stillness of the night, everything and more creates this unique atmosphere you only can find in a school setting.

"Yeah, no need to worry about classes or stuff, it's messed up but also kinda free." In some ways, Chase was right. The appeal of a world ending scenarios and post-apocalyptic settings is the complete collapse of society and order. Money become worthless overnight, societal etiquette and civil mindedness is thrown out of the window. The raw and primal focus on survival is all it matters, no need to worry about rent or fitting in with society. You are free to do whatever you want, untamed and unchained to the rule of law or showing up at work. In essence, it allows people to remake their lives and escape the boring mundane life of repetition.

"I get you, we don't have to worry about what we do after graduating school or what career we should focus on. We live in the moment and think of the now. No homework, no school. No more chasing after the perfect test score or being the best, just focus on survival and getting by." It was idealistic life of course, the romanticization of living in an apocalyptical world world is always appealing. When life is unfulfilling, difficult and depressing, our thoughts naturally turned to escapism and entertainment. But life isn't a video game where you are the master of your own destiny and have complete authority to it. People's lives are destroyed, their loved ones forced to turn on one another after being infected, families broke apart with no hope in sight. For every person who celebrates the end of the world, there is always another who pays the price for it.

But perhaps Ash was giving this situation too much credit, for all he knows, Saffron City might be the only city under attack and the rest of Kanto is completely safe and sound. Unrealistic thought, but one which is possible. Other regions received no reports of wild pokemon attacks before power outage, so as far as they know, Kanto is completely on its own. His thoughts turned to his mother and his hometown, he had no goal or plan when this crisis occurred, all he knew was to seek refuge and safety. But now with his head no longer preoccupied running from the infected, he can finally can plan out his next course of action.

"I need to get back to Pallet Town, I need to reach mom, I need to know if she is okay." Chase grimaced at the pensive and serious tone, he knew that expression from Ash. This man embodies the go with the flow see whatever goes attitude, but when push comes to shove and his loved ones is involved, Ash becomes a man of focus, commitment and sheer will. His love for his mother is commendable, and there was not doubt Ash is going to do something extremely stupid just to reunite with her.

"Ash, Pallet Town is worlds away now, I don't even think the trains work." He knew that, the entire railway system that connects all of Kanto together no longer works, the arteries that supply blood to the heart have now coagulated and stopped. Reaching Pallet Town has always been difficult given it's remote nature and mountainous path, but now it was next to the impossible.

"Even if they do, they are probably overrun with zombies or wild pokemon." The voice of a firm feminine voice brought the boys attention. Chase smiled at the sight of his twin walking towards them with two plates of bacon and egg sandwich filled with chives.

"Thank Lain." The young lady sat down next to Chase and sliced the fried eggs, puncturing the yellow yolk of the egg to soak the grilled bread. Runny eggs always complete a meal, throw it in a bed of rice and put some soy sauce and job's done. The breakfast was enjoyed in silence, friend groups huddled around in their own social circles while those who never fit in before, found themselves sitting with strangers. It was a comforting sight, no one was left out and in these trying times, a little social interaction and community goes a long way for their mental health.

"What's your guys plan?." Chase stopped eating and placed his utensils down, he glanced at his sister who had an uneasy look on her face. Frankly speaking, they don't know. They scarcely had the time to discuss this together, all he knew was that they need to stick together just like old times.

"Our parents are at Alola and we couldn't reach them. I honestly don't know what to do." Ash sighed and finished the rest of his breakfast in one bite. He placed the plate on the table and thought more deeply about the situation, while Chase and Elaine are from Pallet Town just like him, he knew both of them would not make the arduous journey back home. They have no reason or incentive too, their parents are overseas and they stand a better chance with everyone. The bitter truth would be that Ash might need to brave the voyage back home alone, but it was a price and risk he is willing to take. Truthfully speaking, a solo journey mean nobody can slow him down either and he decides the pace of his journey.

"Even if the trains doesn't work, I still need to head home. Mom is waiting for me, I will walk there if I need to." It was the conviction they expected from Ash, he doesn't compromise anything when it comes to his mother. But is also had the twins terrified, Ash would not survive the journey to Pallet Town, it was just not possible. Wild pokemon attacks are sporadic and the local faunas know the area better than Ash, not to mention the potential of running into bandits or highwaymen.

"Ash." Roxanne had finally returned with the medicine in hand, she sat across her students and popped the tablet into Ash's hand. After carefully reading the instruction and giving him the proper lecture regarding medicine safety, she gave him the entire strip of Tylenol pills.

"Remember to drink plenty of fluids and rest when needed okay?" Ash nodded meekly, feeling a little embarrassed to have Miss Roxanne to actively lookout for him. His friends were right next to him and the urge to become macho and independent in front of others suddenly become very desirable. His deadpanned eyes came into view when he realized he is the only person who developed a fever, didn't the rest of his classmates soaked themselves in the rain hours on end too? Talk about weak immune system.

"It's fine miss, let's not waste precious water." Ash did made a valid point, with power down the only source of water are from water towers that rely on gravity and pressure to pump water. But there was still in the very early days of this, and Roxanne doubts the situation would further deteriorate. If she and a handful of trainers join forces, she was confident in retaking the city and reestablishing order within a week. The infected humans are not the issue, it is the wild pokemon. Flying pokemon are indeed the biggest hassle, establishing a unit of anti-air pokemon should be a priority to militaries.

"Taps are still running Ash."

"We should store most of it then." Roxanne chuckled at his gruff response, he seemed awfully grumpy. It's cute to see him trying to act tough and in command. The rock loving scholar sighed and leaned against the table of the canteen when heels clacking against the floor caught her attention.

"Roxanne a moment?" Fantina spoke with urgency in her voice, Roxanne dismissed herself in front of her student and approached her dear friend. They stood at a corner far from the students, with a faint translucent purple glow floating next to them playfully. The figure soon materialized with a mischievous ghost type greeting Roxanne with a custom hello.

"Mismagius just came back from her scouting, apparently all of the wild pokemon that ravaged the cities all left." Roxanne raised her eyebrows, the reconnaissance strategy deployed by Fantina were to scout out for any signs of horde congregation and movements. To have all of the infected pokemon that caused all of this to happen in the first place to disappear, it is concerning development to say the least. They came, they saw, they conquered.

"Just like that?" The coordinator teacher nodded with her arm perched on her hips. She was equally dumbfounded by this, but her ghost types had never been one for joking around in serious situations like this, they knew lives were dependent on the information they scout out.

"Mhmm, puzzling to say the least. She can't sense their pulse, only the humans remain." Ghost types have the unique ability to tell apart the life force of individual. Humans and pokemon have drastically different 'colours' of aura that differentiate them from one another. All ghost types have the innate ability to tell apart in order to evaluate the vitality and life-force of a person, the stronger the life force, the more attractive they become to the ghost type to siphon.

"You certain?"

"I never doubt my ghost type's abilities, they have never failed me." Roxanne see no reason to doubt Fantina, she is the ghost type specialist after all. She sighed and crossed her arms, if what she say is true, this presents them a unique oppurtunity they can't afford to miss.

"I just checked the medical cabinet, we're out of basic first aid. We have fresh gauzes and bandages, but we don't have any iodine or any antiseptics."

"We would need to go to the local clinics and pharmacies then. We don't know anything about this virus and frankly speaking, I'm worried. Masks and hand wash should be a priority right now." It was inevitable, they can't stay forever holed up in their school. Resources would deplete over time and they were mouths to feed, better to do everything they can before they run out of the things they need. But the virus transmission is a cause for concern, many of their clothes are stained with the blood of the infected, hygiene and cleanliness is paramount in an outbreak so any precaution they can do to minimize the chance of infection is always good.

"You suspect the virus transmits from pokemon to humans too?" Fantina only nodded, she has seen it with her own eyes of Pidgeys peeling of the flesh of an unfortunate woman. They didn't need experts or officials to them the narrative, they have seen it themselves.

"Oui, it has to be." The two teacher turned to their students, their gaze lingered on their injured and shaken state. Fantina's heart sank at the sight, her students were all bright and brilliant, the fact all of her students were not unaccounted for and that none of them would have a normal graduation all coordinators deserves, was heartbreaking.

"Look at them, they are children Roxanne. The school is supposed to teach them how to survive in the wilds and prepare them for a journey of self-discovery and exploration. This is not what they signed up for." Roxanne placed a comforting hand on her shoulder, their students are tenacious and unyielding. Most would not have a mental breakdown to continue, but as long they are together and they work together, all of them can make it out alive and unscathed. Teamwork is more crucial than ever.

"For now let's focus on doing what we can. Morale is a little low, but nothing a good breakfast can't fix, see?" Fantina blinked and followed Roxanne's gaze, the cheery laughter of her students chatting over breakfast invoke fond memories of the past. Even in the situation most dire, humans can find ways to cope and joke about their situation, making the best out of the worst is what we do best after all. Fantina's lips curled, everything might just turn out alright.

"Your optimism is beautiful dear, ugh I do wish for a nice bath right now." A hot shower is a luxury few can afford right now, but the sticky and stained nature of clothes leaves something to be desired, especially to a top coordinator who loves style and appearances more than anything.

"I doubt the heaters are working but running water should be available. In fact, Ash and I were about to head to the shower ourselves." The rather bold statement from the prim and proper Roxanne brought Fantina to a state of eternal shock, even her ghost types seemed amused by the rather poor choice of words from the dutiful teacher. A wicked grin appeared on Fantina's face, she did not expect her dear Roxanne to be so daring and bold.

"Ooh~ together Roxy? How scandalous of you." Steam quickly emanated from Roxanne's ears as she vehemently shook her head.

"N-No! I mean separate! We shower separate!" The desperation in her voice just made her look even more guilty, Fantina had even more doubts to Roxanne's words. The teasing smile soon grew wider when she realized that Ash and her were the only ones here the night before. What unorthodox methods they used to warm each other up would remain a mystery but Fantina was near certain she whiffed the scent of a man from Roxanne's collar shirt.

"Hmm you spend a night with him didn't you? I didn't know you were in that kind of relationship with your students. Don't worry, I won't judge." The husky and flirty voice caused Roxanne to physically coiled from discomfort. She had it all wrong! While yes, while she spend a night with Ash, it was for survival purposes! Out of sheer necessity! If word of this gets out, her reputation as an educator would lie in tatters.

"Ugh! It's not like that!" Fantina let out a hearty laugh at Roxanne fuming expression, she is simply so precious when riled up like this. She is always stone cold and composed, so seeing her like this was relieving.

"Haha I know dear, I'm just pulling your leg, it's fun to see you like this." Roxanne glared at her colleague, she did not appreciate this conversation. She would never lay a hand on her student- well, she did, b-but it was out of genuine care and survival! Sure, the warm breath tingling against her blossom and the pair of hands that grazed upon her body was undoubtedly comforting and even addicting- BUT! Anyone in such a fragile emotional and traumatized state would enjoy it no? Regardless of the situation or even gender, it was perfectly normal for craving warmth and comfort from a fellow human being in a horrible situation! Perfectly normal.

Even if the person in question is her student.

"I-I would go check up on him." Fantina's eyes lit up at that, she is awfully fond of him that's for sure. What she said about them might have some truth to it after all, otherwise it won't have brought such a fierce reaction from her.

"Please send him my regards. I will go with the girls to the showers, my ghost types are roaming around the school." Roxanne grunted and walked towards Ash to check on his fever. Why did Fantina had to say something like that? Now her mind can't top replaying the night where Ash and her essentially cuddled together! She's been with a man before, she knew what it was like, but yesterday was different from anything she had experienced, it was just- peaceful and comfy. Simple as that.

"How you're feeling Ash?" The young man looked up to his teacher and smiled at her presence, she's been watching him like a Talonflame. On a show of force and masculinity, Ash stood up tall and flexed his nonexistence muscles.

"Better than ever." Elaine rolled her eyes at his attempt to show off, she knew he was doing it to reassure Miss Roxanne but they were more tasteful ways to do it. Their teacher didn't seemed to mind though, she gave a chuckle and a pat to the adoring Pikachu. The electric type had enjoyed the conversation with his fellow pokemon kind like Charmander and Bulbasaur.

"What's our plan now miss?" Roxanne nursed a serious expression and placed a hand underneath her chin, medical supplies would be their utmost priority, then finding a way to get help should follow suit. She refused to believe the government lie insolvent in the wake of the attacks, if anything this pandemic further strengthened their rule and control over the country.

"Some of your friends are injured and we are out of basic first aid like gauzes and disinfectants, frankly speaking, we might need to head out to look for them." Chase and Ash look amongst each other, they already knew what this entails. Avoiding zombies, breaking in stores and looting supplies, it was an incredible familiar routine that they have experience on, at least virtually.

"A supply run." Roxanne smiled at the serious looks on the boys face, honestly these two might have more experience at this then her. She was well aware that video games are often a gateway for children to learn about the world outside of their lives and comfort zone, media literacy is crucial in this day of age of multimedia.

"Right, if that's what you boys call it. The trouble is, while most of the infected pokemon seemed to left the area, there is not telling if they would come back. The school is absolutely huge and I'm worried that a few of those things would slip in the school quietly." Ash assumed a thinking pose, the first thing they should do when they find a safe and fortified area is to ensure no hopes or compromises. One method to reduce resources or time protecting the fortified area is identifying the important places worth protecting, and territories worth giving up. In other words, walls.

"Why not cordoned off the school and construct walls to block off the area? We can section the area to a grid like system." Roxanne was mildly surprised by the suggestion from Ash, she has the perfect pokemon to construct wall too. It wasn't as if they were using their entire school's facilities either, the gymnasium, music room and classroom were not in use.

"Hmm not a bad idea! Rock types are known to build fortifications. Good thinking Ash. I would seal off the area we can't patrol, better not overextend ourselves. Aggron!" The steel type slowly approached its mistress and listened to her commands, after receiving instruction, he let out a roar and puffed its chest. Building walls and fortifications are a forte of Aggrons, his trainer's will would be done!

"If you need someone to get supplies miss, I can do it." Elaine slapped her brother's shoulder immediately after hearing that, she glared daggers at her and crossed her arms. She was not amused at her brother's desire to live out his video game fantasy of being the 'lone survivor in an apocalypse'. It's going to get him killed.

"Absolutely not Chase!" The young man glared back at his sister, who else is going to do this except him? Ash is in no condition to fight while he is by far the best battler in class, none of the coordinators stands a chance against the horde.

"Well someone has to get the medical supplies and scout ahead!" Elaine bit her lower lip, he had a point but why her brother?

"Why not get Miss Fantina's ghost types to do it?" The suggestion from Ash earned a chain of quick nods from Elaine.

"They won't know what a first aid is, or any other important stuff worth grabbing, a human has to do it." The older twin sighed at her brother's know it all tone, damn her brother's logic.

"You're still not leaving this place, I forbid you." Chase rolled her eyes, just because she older by 12 minutes doesn't mean she ruled his life. He is practically a grown man now, perfectly capable of defending himself. He killed a bunch of infected himself with fire and fury, his Charmander would smoke all of them and that is despite fighting in the rain!

"Lain." The no nonsense tone from him stopped his sister for a moment. She grasped his hand and held them tight, her eyes displaying the rare emotion of genuine concern and plead.

"Please? You saw what those things are capable of, even with your pokemon- don't go." Chase felt speechless at his sister's raw emotional tone. She was right, even if he can handle himself, one fatal bite is all it needs to end it all. He can't afford to get infected, he promised his parents he would looked after her. He sighed and grasped his sister's hand, perhaps he shouldn't let pride and ego get in the way of rational and emotional thinking.

"I will go." The sudden statement from Ash earned a disapproving look from Roxanne. These students are brave no doubt about it, but she isn't willing to let a child to bear this heavy burden. Their lives are in the palm of her hands, she has the moral responsibility to look after them as a teacher and an adult.

"No Ash you're still recovering from your fever. I will go, Aggron would be here while Golem comes with me. It would be fine." The short and curt tone left no room for debate or retort, the decision has already been cast.

"But-"

"No buts, the decision is final. Chase please look after Ash in my absence, he is still unwell." Ash sighed at how helpless he was, he desperately want to help Miss Roxanne out, partly out of guilt and out of repaying back her kindness. But he knew he would get in the way and they could ill-afford a foolish child indirectly causing the death of a experienced tutor.

"I will miss." She beamed and nodded, it would be quick and-

"Miss Roxanne! Please save my friend Risa, she is stuck in her apartments and she can't run well because of a leg injury! I know she is alive and well! I would come with you but I'm scared. Please help her." The ramblings from her student and the tight grip on her caught Roxanne by surprised, she turned to face Giselle clutching onto her with tears down her face. Her friends can be see behind her, restraining her from pleading.

"Giselle stop!"

"Damn it! I know Risa and the others are alive! I know she is!" Roxanne closed her eyes, she could already imagine the emotional trauma the poor girl has been through. All of her close friends were not here with her, yet she desperately cling onto the notion that all of them are okay. It was a naive thought, but did she dare to say it to her? False hope while cruel and deceiving, is enough to motivate people to get by and prosper. Perhaps a little white lies and unspoken truths might be needed here.

"Giselle. I make no promises, but I will try. Do you know where is she located?" The normally arrogant and condescding girl smiled brightly, she nodded vehemently and began to frantically looked for a pen. She took a nearby paper and sketch a rough outline and location of the area.

"She is at Crystal Clave Apartments, near the pharmacy store. H-Here I mark it for you." Roxanne took the paper and digest it properly, while the artwork was rudimentary and swift, she could make out the places of the building that were named and detailed. This was near the downtown area, the places where most of modern day conveniences and services lie. Undoubtedly, it is infested with the infected. Still, the pharmacy store is also located in the heart of the city, she has to fight her way through.

"Perfect, is on route then. I will be back in a jiffy! Aggron is building the walls right now, so stay within the compound. Do not engage alone if you see an infected, alert the others and stay together okay?" Her students nodded with Giselle placing both her clasped hands on her chest, she desperately want to see her friends again, she knew it was a selfish request but she refuse that all of them had succumb to the virus.

"Yes miss."

"Pass the notice to Miss Fantina." With that, Golem began to follow her as the duo began to exit through the courtyard side door. The students looked amongst each other, with the girls starting to make their way to the shower room. With the boys left in the area, Stephen was tasked with washing the dishes. He hummed a tune to himself when he noticed Ash standing next to him.

"Oh hey Ash, how are you holding up?"

"I'll manage... say do you know where the broom is?" Stephen blinked, he didn't knew Ash have an eye for cleanliness even during an apocalypse. He peered over his position and pointed behind him, with his Bliztle moving boxes to aside in a neart and orderly manner.

"At the store room behind you." He swiftly entered the store room, and the sound flex tape being pulled caught both Chase and Stephen's attention. The two followed Ash and enter the storeroom, the sight of him taping a screwdriver to a broomstick already told them enough.

"Ash what are you thinking?" The silence from him earned a sigh from the two boys, he can't seriously be thinking of going out like this, especially in his sick and feverish state.

"You're thinking of following Miss Roxanne now aren't you?" Ash only nodded as he remained focused on taping the screwdriver to the broomstick, however instead of taping by the side vertically, he placed the Philip screwdriver horizontally just next to the tip of the broom, forming a traditional dagger axe polearm instead of the mighty spear. A screwdriver has a smaller surface area at the drive tip, thus allowing more force to be concentrated at one sharp point. The much more rigid and structured screwdriver is designed to absorb hammer blows to the handle, with its round metal shaft distributing the force of the impact evenly. This is compared to the flimsy kitchen knife that can easily snap and flex with a blow or two. Simple, effective and above all, easy to make.

"She only has Golem with her, even if it can deal with all of the zombies, they would just target her. I have seen how they operate, they would always try to go for the trainers." The sound of tape being peeled and wrapped around layer after layer filled the storeroom. While the boys would not discount Ash's concern, he doubt that he can help Roxanne. He is brave one, but also naively stupid if he thinks that makeshift weapon of his and Pikachu's might is enough to survive out there.

"You're seriously thinking of going out there right? You're sick and tired." He knew that, his strength has waned but most of them have returned to him. But he couldn't shake the feeling that something would be off and that Miss Roxanne only have Golem with her. If she has two pokemon, say one for offense and one for solely defending her, Ash would be much more at ease. But she left her Aggron in the school to protect them, putting herself at much more risk.

"I don't think this would last more than a handful of swings, but it might take out a few zeds. I'm going out there, cover for me would ya?" The weapon was done, Ash had finally created a simple weapon that can dig through human skull with ease. A solid wack to the skull should be enough incapacitate the zombies, not to mention the reach of the weapon allows him to attack from a safe distance. Of course if he mistimed his attack and the tip of the screwdriver misses it's mark or didn't take the infected humans out, well then he is probably screwed. As for the pokemon, he would let Pikachu do what he do best, as cruel and uncomfortable it is. It is a matter of survival now.

"Ash wait!" Weapon in hand, he slung it across his shoulders and took one of the empty bags from the storeroom. He turned to the rest of his friend and place a hand on their shoulders, this is by far the most stupid thing he is about to do, but given the circumstances and the fact Miss Roxanne is vulnerable without her two pokemon, he must risk it. Not to mention, he wanted to know more about the foes he is up against. He has already made his decision to travel Pallet Town alone, and to survive that journey, he must learn from experience and go up and personal with the infected. He eyed his two friends and softened his gaze, they are probably freaking out right now. Without rhyme or reason, he had chosen to go out there with nothing but a shoddy weapon and his buddy Pikachu, but this is something he must do to prepare himself for the journey ahead.

"I'm determined to go home, if I can't survive the journey to help Miss Roxanne and come back here unharmed, I don't stand a chance traveling back home alone. I consider this a litmus test of my abilities. I know it's stupid and irrational, but my mother means everything to me."

"Alright Ash, watch out for the corners and check the buildings thoroughly."

"Mhmm, if you're determined to do this, we won't stop you. Tell us what's the situation like when you come back okay?" The raven haired teen nodded, he would come back to school with Miss Roxanne with him, safe and sound.

"Sure, thanks guys. Look after the girls okay?"

"Will do." He clapped their shoulders tightly before letting them go, he was seriously going to do this. To step out of security of the school just to help his teacher. Would he get in her way? Would he jeopardize and compromise her safety? Perhaps, but Ash had the right and obligation to help his teacher too.

"Let's go Pikachu. We're not letting miss do all of this alone." The electric mouse personal opinion on this remains muddied at best, while it firmly believes what his trainer doing is completely reckless that reaches the lines of idiocy, he had nothing but respect to Ash for going out of his way help his teacher and understand the threat ahead. Rather than confining to the walls of the school, acquiring more information about their foes and the situation at hand is crucial in the early stages of a crisis. Slip and slide, Ash and Pikachu left the canteen and headed to the courtyard, the scenic view of wind rustling the trees and scattering leaves across the floor brought a smile to the young man. Aggron has yet to fortify this area yet, providing Ash an opportunity to leave the compound. He gripped his makeshift polearm firmly in his hands and placed his elbow on the side door that led to the outside. With a hand signals acting as instruction, Pikachu leaped onto the tall walls of the compounds and surveyed the area outside, barbed wire and broken barricades were broke through, as if a bulldozer rolled through them with reckless abandon. The outside was safe and devoid of the infected, at least for now.

"Pi." With a deep inhale, Ash pushed the side door with his elbows and closed the door shut. Now in broad daylight, Ash witness first hand on the sheer destruction to the city he grew to love. Desolate and devoid of life, it was time to explore the city and find Miss Roxanne.
