T'was another night here at Beacon with silence its keeper. Not a person was stirring save one little reaper. Ruby Rose slowly and carefully slipped from her precarious bunk and dropped to the floor with barely a sound. Pausing, she heard her older sister snort and grumble but otherwise remain asleep. Satisfied with the situation Ruby tiptoed to the nearby desk and carefully, slowly, groped around in the faint moonlight filtering through the large window. A few tense moments later she found her prize and slipped the top drawer open with the faintest squeak of its rollers. The beautiful jewel was pulled into open air and the scant stream of moonlight dancing over the desktop caused it to alight, shining with an inner fire.
Snickering quietly like a supervillain over her devious plan, Ruby stole away into the empty hallway with mounting confidence.
"Mwa ha ha!" she whisper-yelled as her prize dangled from her fist by its chain. "No one can stop me now!" Because Ruby Rose had a plan. A wonderful, amazing, stupendous plan that would surely work without complications.
Step 1: Summon a special future person to help train Ruby.
Step 2: ?
Step 3: Make the world a better place.
Despite her prior cheer her smile fell as she approached the double doors leading outside the dorms, the potential weight of her choice already growing quite heavy in her heart. What Ruby was doing was potentially dangerous, and there was no denying that something had changed in Jaune ever since he learned what his other self had gone through. He was still their goofy Vomit Boy but now he was prone to moments of silence, looking off at nothing in particular with distant eyes, and throwing himself into his training with renewed vigor.
They all strove for excellence since that day upon learning how treacherous things would become. Which was why Ruby had chosen to enact such a dangerous course of action. The young girl understood the risks and accepted them, even if they wound up with another belligerent and murderous Jaune. It was a choice to make as a leader…a choice where sometimes they needed to decide between a bad option and a worse one.
And from what the Rusted Knight had spoken of, there would be a lot of hard choices on the horizon.
Besides, the weird dream she had with the strange old man teleporting through rainbows actually made a lot of sense and it remained perfectly clear in her memories even now. It would work, and it would work well. It had to. Because…behind the joy and innocence her friends always saw her sporting…she was afraid. Afraid of what may come, of losing more people she cared for, of not being strong enough herself when the time came and Salem's remaining minions tried to overthrow society.
Looking around Ruby made her way to the school's statue in its main courtyard and checked to ensure she was alone before stifling a squeal upon finding an intricate chalky circle already awaiting her arrival. HER DREAM WAS REAL! Stopping at its edge the girl held the gem aloft. According to Ozpin after he had examined the pendant, it was still filled with magic after Weiss' usage, hoarding the energy with only a slight decay in its release.
A bit of aura from Ruby topped it off, she assumed, when she could barely feel her energy flow into it anymore. She opened her mouth…and paused. The doubts she continued to hold quickly surfaced once more. She had reached the point of no return…and was still unable to take the final plunge even when her goal was right before her.
The image of the older Jaune, so broken and un-Jaune-like flashed through her mind and she shivered. After careful consideration and debate it was believed the bits of hair caught in Myrtenaster somehow influenced the unexpected summoning…but what if she somehow called the Rusted Knight from the same point in time Weiss had? And then they had to deal with the craziness all over again?
Ah but that was just her anxiety talking. Truthfully the very idea she would get the exact same person was statistically ridiculous. And that thought reinvigorated her flagging enthusiasm. The jewel flashed as Ruby raised her hand once more, resolve crystallizing. Inhaling she felt her chest expand before Ruby called upon her precious leadership skills to order herself to get this done.
"You've come this far and it's too late to back out now! So stop being a big baby and help protect the world!"
Silver eyes blinked as Ruby almost reflexively argued back (with herself) at the insult before shaking her head. She hopped into the circle and placed the pendant dead center before exiting.
Enough time had been wasted. Steeling herself Ruby finally began to chant as she pushed her aura hard enough to nearly glow atop her skin. She could feel it siphon off from her body towards the circle which was a really odd sensation in retrospect. Far different from when it was lost through battle.
"Fill. Fill. Fill," the young Rose recited, the entire aria from her dream spilling from her lips as if she already knew it by heart. Though…the second portion began to flounder as it was up to her to add her own personal twist to things. Ruby uttered a few more lines she reeeeeeally hoped sounded important and serious before finally reaching the endgame. "—and so bring forth a hero with the power to save the world and stop evil in its tracks!"
A slight wind had picked up as she spoke, the ritual circle beginning to glow and spark with gathered energy. A great plume of smoke erupted from its center as she stated the final line. Like a ghost, a body phased into view and blew away the fog as they forcibly materialized. It was a person…no visible armor…which was good? Kind of short, no yellow hair…Ruby's conviction climbed the more she realized they wouldn't have a revenge-driven man corrupted with madness walking about. But who was it then?
Under the full but shattered moon silver eyes cracked open to stare quizzically towards Ruby, whose mouth dropped open in shock. Ruby Rose stared at Ruby Rose. The differences, however, were obvious. For one the other's hair was wilder, less tamed and combed back instead of left to fall freely, flaring up and feathering out. High-tech goggles rested upon her forehead with strange slits and glowing blue lenses. A leather corset and fine mesh exposed more of her chest than she ever had before save for the dress she wore to the dance, but otherwise the red and black ensemble did look like something she might of, sort of, maybe would wear to replace her current combat skirt. Her cloak looked new. Brighter in color, unlike her current hood and its rather washed exterior.
And—
"WHAT DID YOU DO TO CRESCENT ROSE?!" Ruby screeched, making her counterpart wince in annoyance.
"Uh, I think you mean Precision Rose!" the other snapped back with the exact same voice. It was trippy, because older Jaune sounded low and mature compared to younger Jaune's squeaky tone. It would have been something to ponder over except Ruby was too busy glaring daggers at the larger compacted form of her favorite weapon. It was one solid piece, the red shell a perfect rectangle with rounded corners and no visible seams attached at the other Ruby's back beneath her cloak. As the wind tugged at the summoned girl's hood it became visible for a moment…but enough to raise Ruby's hackles.
Other Ruby pulled it free to show the weapon off and it quickly unfolded into a sniper rifle…but wrong. The muzzle popped out of the bottom where the small spear tip should have protruded, and where the scythe's edge should have been was a folded portion that became the gun's stock. The Servant held the rifle at the ready and it was wrong wrong WRONG!
"Servant Archer. Are you my Master?" Other Ruby stated almost robotically as she stepped outside the circle before her thoughts caught up to her mouth. "...why did I say that?"
But Ruby barely heard her, having fallen to her hands and knees in disgust as she lamented the butchered, perverse desecration of the most perfect weapon ever. Neither her, nor her Servant, realized that three shiny red seals had appeared on the back of the huntress-to-be's pale hand as she slapped the grass and wailed dramatically. It was Ruby's emblem roughly trisected into equal parts.
As a massive amount of information about this time and place downloaded into her brain from who knows where, the summoned Servant felt her irritation rise, cheeks puffing out in annoyance.
She was never this bad!
…right?
Alternate Ending 1:
As the smoke cleared, the clink of metallic plates scraping one another met Ruby' ears as she began to scream internally. The figure was tall and clad in disturbingly familiar armor coated in thick layers of two-tone rust. He, because Ruby was already distinctly aware of the face hidden behind its helmet, looked around in silence before the shadowy vision slit alighted upon the much smaller girl.
"What? Ruby?"
"Hey, Jaune…" she answered despondently. "Please tell me you're not going to—"
"Is this…Beacon? No. How is this possible? I, it can't be! I, I, I!"
The Rusted Knight shook his head and swayed on the spot, ranting to himself with a rising desperation. Ruby scuffed the grass with her slipper and sighed aloud knowing she was really in for it now. Especially when Weiss found out. But hey, maybe this time they could keep the older manic Jaune from trying to kill his younger self to try and force a paradox to make the future version never exist.
Right?
Right?
The Rusted Knight suddenly tore the damaged Crocea Mors from his back and howled to the moon before dashing away.
Ruby sighed again, pouting as she imagined the hours of detention waiting on the horizon.
"Ah, crap baskets…"
Alternate Ending 2:
The smoke was blown away by a hand waving desperately to clear the air. Ruby noticed the rich red hair and…blinked stupidly, completely dumbfounded by the unfamiliar person standing inside the ritual circle. It looked like a boy maybe a bit older than herself wearing nothing but jeans, socks, and a white shirt with blue sleeves and a cooking apron. He clutched a metal bowl to his chest, the other hand that had banished the smoke holding a whisk.
"Uh," he began lamely as his amber irises glanced around before zeroing in on Ruby. The girl waved timidly.
"Hi?"
"How did…um, what?" He glanced down before his eyes hardened at the sight of the chalky outline drawn upon the cement. "The Grail War is over and done. Why did you mess with a summoning ritual?"
"Wait! You know how this works?"
"Well," Shirou Emiya drew out slowly. The eggs he was about to whisk for breakfast would go to waste. A pity. "I guess you could say I have some experience with this sort of thing."
Alternate Ending 3:
Silver eyes grew moist, Ruby's hands rising to cover her mouth lest she start screaming. That hair, so very much like her own yet styled differently. That cloak, a stark white Ruby remembered in her dreams that she had based her own off of. And those eyes: like staring into a mirror which changed things ever so subtly.
The summon was older than herself. Though Ruby could barely remember through the haze of her youth, the pictures in the Xiao-Long/Rose household on Patch had immortalized her image for all to see at any time.
And if those weren't telling enough, only one person had ever used the golden-black ax/rifle hybrid dangling at the woman's hip.
Swallowing thickly, Ruby felt the tears finally begin to fall.
"...mom?"
Just one of those random snippets I mentioned but where eventually everyone's going to wind up summoning a Servant, within the "storyline" I've got set up here. But nothing serious. Harkening back to the note in Ch. 2 of the main story where I theorized everyone's potential Servant class, here we see Ruby as the first.
Archer.
Basically she's a Ruby based on her Ice Queendom parallel, but from a world where Ruby was more interested in sniping than using a scythe like Qrow. Precision Rose is the Ice Queendom dream variant but instead of the compact form being a snowboard, it's closer in shape to the regular Crescent Rose. Also, I gave her goggles because why not but now that I look at it they're similar to Maria's synthetic eyes, sooooooo she also met Maria far earlier in her timeline. Yeah I can probably work that into her potential backstory.
Simple.
Since I'm playing loosely with the Fate summoning mechanics, this Ruby isn't exactly a Heroic Spirit immortalized in Remnant's Throne of Heroes if it even has one. None of them will be. Except Jaune given he's the Rusted Knight.
Anyways I'll try to go in the basic order of team names for the summoning chapters so up next should be Weiss.
