Tried Our Best

Chapter 8

"To my little brother and little sister in law. Thank you for using you're love. Friendship. Commitment to each other. As a guidepost to what True love is supposed to be." Lucas proclaimed. Lifting his glass to the couple.

As he went back to sit down at the table.

Brooke sighed deeply. Yes pouring the drink on Alex was very high school me. But come on. She knew what she was doing.

I don't want to hear about Lucas and his romantic involvement with everyone. Our dating life is one aspect we never discussed with each other for a reason.

It was uncomfortable. Awkward. And i like to think that that aspect of his life doesn't exist.

But i also know technically. He isn't mine anymore.

...

"From Tutor wife. To Tutor mom. To simply one of my best friends. My Haley."

"Nate we grew up together. The same social circle. Having to grow up and parent ourselves. The two of you are my family and i refuse to lose hope in love. Because of what the two of you have and continue to show to the world."

"Marrying you're best friend. You're soul mate."

"There is nothing better then that. Unconditional love is a gift." Brooke said.

During her speech. Her eyes had wandered from Naley to Lucas.

"Somebody went off script. What was that about?" Peyton asked.

Once Brooke had rejoined her at the table.

"I got distracted." Brooke replied.

"Let's go Jagielski." Peyton said.

Jake smiled taking her hand in his. Leading towards the dance floor.

"You aren't supposed to outshine the couple holding the event."

"You are stunning. You're so mean. You wore that dress to torture me." Lucas said.

When they were face to face.

"I wore this dress for myself and maybe i knew you would like the view. But i think that's where it should stay."

"I mean. We wouldn't want you're girlfriend to get all jealous." Brooke replied.

"I'm not dating anyone." Lucas said.

"According to Alex Dupre. I wouldn't call it dating."

"But then again. That's not business." Brooke proclaimed.

"If you don't care and aren't affected by it."

"You're jealous. Just admit it. If not. Then why won't you dance with me?" Lucas questioned.
