Steve, Tony, Scott and Hulk arrived in New York 2012, the avengers first victory and the location of the Space stone, Mind stone and Time stone. As soon as they arrived Steve reminded them of the plan.
"All right, we all have our assignments. Two Stones uptown, one Stone, down. Stay low. Keep an eye on the clock."
"And don't give anyone any spoilers on the future. No tv finales or Oscar nominations-"
The past Hulk interrupted Antman passing by them, smashing everything in his way whilst not noticing the four time travellers. The Hulk from the future put his hand on his face, clearly embarrassed by his previous behavior.
"…feel free to smash a few things along the way."
"I think it's gratuitous, but whatever."
Bruce tore off his shirt whilst lightly and half heartedly punched random vehicles on his way to the time stone.
The plan was simple, After the battle of New York, the Tesseract was taken to Asgard whereas the Loki's sceptre was transported by Shield. Both infinity Stones would be intercepted whilst in transport. Tony and Scott would grab the space stone and Steve would take the mind stone.
Steve sprinted towards the entrance of Stark tower and took the elevator to one of the higher levels as Tony flew to the top carrying a Miniaturized Scott.
"Got to hustle, Cap. Things look like they're just about wrapped up here." Tony relayed over coms
"Got it. I'm approaching the elevator now."
As Steve pressed the elevator call button, he received more critical information from Tony's perspective:
"Uh, Mr. Rogers. I almost forgot that that suit did nothing for your ass.
"No one asked you to look, Tony."
"I think you look great, Cap. As far as I'm concerned, that's America's ass." Scott said with a patriotic declaration.
"All right, Cap. I got our sceptre in the elevator just passing the 80th floor."
"On it. Head to the lobby." Steve ordered before the elevator opened to reveal a dozen Hydra agents posing as Shield field agents including the former STRIKE leader Rumlow and the high ranking but otherwise harmless Agent Sitwell.
Steve walked in to the surprise of the elevators occupants. There was an obvious tension building up and after a while the silence was broken by a cautious agent Sitwell
"Captain. I thought you were coordinating search and rescue?"
"Change of plans."
"Hey, Cap." Rumlow said with a deliberate enthesis. Steve couldn't help but realise Rumlow was staring suspiciously at his jaw.
Steve made sure not to show any more signs of suspicion especially since he couldn't hold himself in a fight anymore.
"Rumlow." He replied back. "I just got a call from the Secretary. I'm gonna be running point on the sceptre."
"Sir? I don't understand."
"We got word there may be an attempt to steal it."
It was clear that this wasn't a satisfactory explanation to the agents and Steve might have to fight his way out if his identity is put into more question.
"Sorry, pal. I can't give you the sceptre." Rumlow responded clearly being aware that this is not the Captain America he knew.
Sitwell took action the way he knew how "I'm gonna have to call the Director."
"That's okay. Trust me." Steve leaned in to Sitwell's ear before saying the two words he never thought would come out his mouth "Hail Hydra."
The elevators occupants could not contain their visible surprise and shock with the exception of Rumlow who had this understanding smirk on his face. Steve walks out of the elevator on the first floor with the sceptre in his hand and a grin on his artificial mouth. He attempted to give an update on his hidden communicator but was met with static and indeterminate shouting. "Tony, what's going on? Tell me you found that cube." Steve looked up and was met with an all too familiar figure from his past. "Oh, you gotta be shitting me." He groaned as he found himself face to face with the most stubborn man he knew: Captain America.
