The Three Avengers walked over to confront Thanos face to face. Steve limped every step of the way, being more then aware that he was fighting at his absolute weakest whilst everyone else fighting was likely at their peak. He remembered all the times people offered to recreate his super soldier serum and how he refused each time. Anyone who knew him wouldn't blame him if he gave up and chose not to fight, and anyone who knew him would know why that was never an option.
At last the mad titan spoke.
"You could not live with your own failure. And where did that bring you? Back to me. I thought by eliminating half of life, the other half would thrive. But you've shown me that's impossible. And as long as there are those that remember what was, there will always be those that are unable to accept what can be. They will resist."
"Yep. We're all kinds of stubborn." Interjected Tony
Thanos stood up and put on his helmet as he continued his speech.
"I'm thankful. Because now, I know what I must doI will shred this universe down to its last atom. And then– With the stones you've collected for me, create a new one. Teeming with life, but knows not what it has lost but only what it has been given. A grateful universe."
"Born out of blood." Steve spat in disgust.
"They'll never know it. Because you won't be alive to tell them."
