Thor leapt in the air, lightning igniting his axe with a mighty roar. Tony followed suit, the Iron Man suit forming razor sharp blades in nanoseconds. Despite Steve's injuries and the promise of certain death, he charged at Thanos with all his strength. He slid under Thanos' first swing, before striking him twice with his emblazoned shield. This just seemed to ignore the mad titan who swatted him away like an insect. Steve tried to get back up, but his body was more broken then ever before. Both his legs were completely broken, both lungs were punctured, and he was struggling to breath properly.

Whilst being completely incapacitated, he could partially hear the efforts of Tony and Thor battle Thanos. The mad Titan using Tony as a shield against Mjölnir, Thor getting choked and brutally beaten, Thanos grabbing Stormbreaker and slowly driving it in Thor's heart. Steve reached out trying to will his body to fight with every remaining bit of strength but it was no use. As he faded in and out of consciousness, he started to hallucinate golden buildings and otherworldly music. He heard an old man whispering something to him. "Dr Erskine?" Steve asked. It was the only explanation, Steve Roger was dying and would soon travel to the Heavens.

"Wait." Steve started listening to the whispers in his head more closely. "That's not Dr Erskine's voice." He thought. He slowly realised as his body began to heal itself that the accent wasn't German, it was Asgardian! As the voice becomes clearer, Steve knew something was happening. His body started to shake as he felt something powerful bolt through his veins almost like…

"Whosoever holds this hammer…"

Captain Rogers stands at full attention.

"if he be worthy…"

The First Avenger reached his hand out, ready for his final mission.

"shall possess the power of Thor."

Mjölnir shot into his hand, summoning a torrent of lightning around the Avenger. The lightning began spreading it's magic with the uniform's nanobots and weaved it's way into every fiber of Steve's body. When the light finally died down, Steve's tattered ruined Avenger's uniform was transformed into a sleek durable Asgardian suit of Armor.

The magic of Odin had enhanced his body to God-like capabilities, far surpassing his previous super soldier abilities. Steve stood tall at his familiar 6'2". He ran his Bronze gauntlets against his new uniform, feeling the enlarged pearl star resting across a bed of chainmail scales. To his surprise, he also felt a pair of silver wings protrude from his helmet in the Asgardian fashion.

As he brandished the mighty power of the Gods against Thanos in one last battle, Steve gave himself a quiet chuckle. It never mattered if his body was frail or enhanced or Asgardian, in his heart he was always Captain America.

Authors Notes

Thank you for sticking with me to the end of this old fanfic from 2021 (I swear my writing has improved since then)! I think in hindsight, I could have cut the chapters down in half but I remember having a lot of fun teasing the restoration of Captain America with the various suits and mentions of enhancements. I have one more chapter planned that I never wrote down which I may write in future, so keep an eye out.

The idea for Cap's Asgardian armor was inspired by this artwork by João Filipe Santiago and the idea of Odin's speech being heard came from a Youtube video linked below.

For my next fanfic, since I've done a Star Trek and Doctor Who fanfic, it's only fitting I complete the Sci-Fi trifecta. I'm confident in saying that no one else has ever come up with this next idea. I likely won't be sharing it for a while but I want to say that I'm very excited about it and I hope you will enjoy it as much as I'm enjoying writing it. See you then!
