"What do we now?" Cordelia asked. "She's my sister."

"We protect her. Regardless of how she came about she's still real. She knows something about what goes on around here. She knows about Magic. Giles just bought a magic store, she's seen Amy shoot fire. She knows her parents don't know and she's kept it quiet. We need Amy and Tara to check her, verify what monk guy said, but we don't tell her she was created. If Amy and Tara find the Key in her, we tell her it was put in her. I don't want her ever doubting her existence. That would mess with her mind, big time."

"It would." Faith agreed. "And we need to find out if she's really made from me. How does that work?"

Xander, remembering the Asgard, had an idea. "A clone, they could have physically cloned you, tweaked some of the genes, so she doesn't look like you and then placed this Key, whatever it is, in her. That means she is human and a real person, just magically created, not scientifically or naturally. The changes in me aren't natural, but I'm not less human because of it or at least I don't consider myself less human and none of you treat me like I am. She's human, she's a child, she's made from Faith, but she's Cordy's sister and someday I'm going to get down my knee and ask Cordy to marry me and Kari will be my sister-in-law, I already love her like she's my sister, too."

"Xander's right." Cordelia said. "As annoying as she is, she's my sister, which kinda makes Faith my sister too? Maybe? Regardless, I will protect her."

"As will I." Giles said. "I agree, she is a child and she needs to be protected. I also agree, we need to verify this monk's information. I will call the others and fill them in. You two go pick Kari up from school. It is a good thing she is staying with you two right now, that makes things more convenient."

"Hey, I got a question." Faith said. "The monk guy said, they sent her to you two to protect because of the Ancestors legacy. What does that mean?" Xander and Cordelia knew, but couldn't say anything about it. So Xander said. "Maybe he thinks we're related to his ancestors or something. I don't think that matters as much as taking care of Kari."

"He is probably correct. Without more information there isn't anything we could do about that anyway. Go on. I will call the others."

Xander and Cordelia headed out to pick up Kari. Once in the car, they had a few things to say.

"Legacy is what you called that genetic key thing, Xander. Somehow the monks know, we're related to the Alterrans. That's why they sent her to us."

"Yeah and we can't say anything about it. It's been Classified. But that means, there might be information in the repository that could help. Major Carter said, the info dumps isn't how it's meant to operate. We're supposed to be able to request the information we want and get just that information. If the monks really are connected to the Alterrans somehow, the information should be in that repository. Tomorrow is Saturday. I'll go out to the lab and find out."

"Xander, you're risking another info dump, you could die."

"I know where to get help if it happens. We need answers, Cordy. Answers can help us protect her."

"I should do it, Xander. She's my sister."

"No, because if I'm wrong, Cordy, then you will still be here to protect her. We're a team. It's not all on you."

"You're sure?"

"Yes." As they pulled up in front of the middle school. Kari came out a few minutes later and headed for Xander's car.

"Hey guys, what's up? I wasn't expecting you to pick me up. I can walk to your place."

"Something's come up, Kari. I know you know about Magic." Xander said.

"Yeah, I think it's cool Amy can shoot fire out of her hands."

"We ran into a guy who claims a curse may have been put on you. We want Tara and Amy to check you."

"Why kind of curse? Pimples or death kind?"

"We don't know, but don't worry, we've got two of the best Magic users around. If there is a curse and this isn't just some guy playing his idea of a joke, we'll figure out how to fix it. No one messes with my little Kare-bear."

By the time they returned to Giles' condo, the others had arrived. Tara and Amy had their supplies set up. Kari eyed them for a moment.

"Is this going to hurt?" She asked.

"No, you won't feel anything." Tara assured her. "We're just going to scan you. Find out if anyone has done anything. Once we know, we can go from there. Don't worry, okay? We're going to take care of you."

Kari had always liked Tara or believed she did, so she nodded trustingly and said. "What do I do?"

"Just stand there, sweetie." Tara answered as she and Amy, both formidable Magic users, cast a variety of diagnostic spells. Finally, they had some answers.

"Okay, I don't know if I'd call it a curse. I'm not seeing anything malignant about it. But there's some sort of energy that's in you. This may be what that guy was referring to."

"How did it get in me? Why is it in me?" Kari asked, feeling scared. Both Xander and Cordelia moved to hug her.

"Maybe someone wanted to hide it." Xander suggested. "But since our witches say it's not malignant, that means it's not hurting you. So until we can figure out how to get it out, you don't have to worry that's it hurting you."

"What if you can't ever get it out?"

"Then you learn to live with it. Like I've learn to live with the changes in me." Xander told her. "They're not hurting me either. It just means, we have a little more in common, Kare-bear."
