November 3rd, 2:30 PM, Iwato Island, 1955
Tsukioka and Shinkichi did a roundabout search of Iwato Island, hoping to spot the wayward plane. At first, both men were about to give up hope until Shinkichi pointed it out, nested against some rocks and Kobayashi waving his coat in the air. Tsukioka spotted him too and they began to land the plane. The plane sent up white sprays into the sky as it came in for a landing and both Tsukioka and Shinkichi stepped out.
"Glad you guys could make it!" Kobayashi greeted them only to see Tsukioka cross his arms in a disapproving manner.
"Maybe next time you'll actually listen to me about checking your engine first?" he asked him bluntly.
Kobayashi just let out a sheepish laugh.
November 3rd, 2:40, PM, Iwato Island 1955
"How's your arm?" Tsukioka asked, noticing Kobayashi nursing his left arm. The three men had started a fire so they could warm themselves before heading back to Osaka.
"It's a bit sprained," Kobayashi replied. "But I'll live. Anyway, thanks for coming by to pick me up."
"Don't thank us." Shinkichi chuckled. "Thank Hidemi and Yasuko. They told us to come get you."
Kobayashi groaned. "Those two? Seriously!? Great as if they don't nag me enough, I'll never hear the end of it now."
"Would you have liked me to give you an earful?" Tsukioka asked.
Kobayashi chuckled. "No, no, I can live with the girls doing that."
All three men let out a small laugh at that. Shinkichi stood up to poke the fire... and heard a deep, guttural growl that sent shivers down his bones. In fact, all three men stopped what they were doing as an enormous shadow blot out the afternoon sun. For Shinkichi, it sounded all too familiar.
No, he thought. No, no, it can't be.
All three men turned up, and met the burning, orange eyes of a gigantic reptilian head staring right back at them. The beast opened its jaws and let loose a deafening, high-pitched roar, causing the trio to yelp and hide in a narrow pass as it lunged for them.
"Godzilla." Shinkichi spoke, his voice shaking. "T-That's Godzilla."
"Are you sure?" Kobayashi asked. "Isn't he supposed to be dead?"
"Does he look dead to you?" Tsukioka hissed.
"Well," Kobayashi said hopefully. "Maybe it's another one."
Godzilla leaned forward a bit and glared at the men through the opening in the crevasse. It was there, Shinkichi noticed a few things about him. He still looked relatively the same; charcoal-gray skin, three rows of dorsal fins that roughly resembled maple leaves, a head that looked like a cross between a dragon and a lion, but there was something he didn't notice until now. He appeared to be covered in glossy, mottled, slightly swirling, brown/tan stripes spread erratically around his body, including a prominent one under his left eye. However, as he looked closer he realized those weren't stripes at all. They were scars... Chemical burn scars.
It was the same Godzilla who had attacked from 1954. Which meant the Oxygen Destroyer failed to kill him and it also meant that...
"Serizawa died for nothing..." Shinkichi whispered only to be snapped back into reality by Tsukioka and Kobayashi as they tugged him deeper into the crevasse. It turned out Godzilla was reaching into their hiding spot only for his claws to hit the ground meters from where they were. They had to cover their ears at the sound of Godzilla's claws scraping against stone. Godzilla reached in again, this time getting slightly closer to the trio.
Tsukioka could feel his heart beating in his ears. He was so pumped with adrenaline he couldn't even feel his fingers. Just then, he noticed Kobayashi pulling some things from his pocket; a cigarette and a lighter. He couldn't help but frown.
"Are you seriously smoking at a time like this!?" he hissed.
Kobayashi shrugged. "Well, lemme put it this way. If this is our last moment on Earth, might as well go out with a smoke."
However, fate had different plans, starting with a honking roar. Godzilla paused for a moment and looked over his shoulder. They saw the corner of his eyes narrow and his lips curl into a snarl. He let out a barking roar and stepped away from them. Out of curiosity, the three men peered out from their hiding place and realized there were now two monsters. The other monster was similar to Godzilla in that it was reptilian, had grayish-brown skin, and spikes on its back, but that's where the similarities ended. Whereas Godzilla was bipedal and stood upright like a man, this monster stood on all fours; its front legs resembled that of an elephant but with articulated, slightly sharper toes whereas its hindlegs were digitigrade. It was covered in overlapping plates of armor similar to a knight with a prominent carapace covered in half-moon shaped quills that rattled against each other. This armor continued down to its tail which ended in a spiked club resembling an organic mourning star. Its head was vaguely crocodilian with seven horns growing out of the back of its skull with the center horn being the most prominent. On its nose rested a rhino-like horn.
For a while, the two titans circled each other until the armored newcomer closed the gap and the two collided, the impact waves of their massive forms nearly causing the trio to fall on their backs. They could watch as the two beasts grappled and tackled like two plus-sized bears, each trying to get their jaws on the other's throat. Godzilla shoved the other monster against the crevasse wall, causing rocks to fall and nearly crush the three men. Tsukioka noticed, in between the legs of the dueling behemoths, was his plane waiting.
"Okay," he told Shinkichi and Kobayashi. "On three, we make a break for the plane."
Kobayashi looked back at the plane and gave him a look as if he had gone insane.
"Are you nuts!?" he asked.
"You got a better idea, Kobayashi?" Shinkichi asked. "It's either we try to make it to the plane or wait for the winner to decide what to do with us."
Kobayashi flicked his eyes from the plane and back to the monsters. He then groaned exasperatedly.
"Fine," he replied. "Whatever."
All three men huddled together and waited for the right opening.
"Okay," Tsukioka said. "On three, we make a run for it. One..."
"THREE!" Kobayashi yelled as he ran for his life.
Tsukioka and Shinkichi groaned but rushed out as well, making sure they weren't crushed under foot by the dueling monsters. Kobayashi had made it out first so, he managed to get to the plane before them and kept trying to get a good look at his companions.
Shinkichi and Tsukioka dodged and weaved under the feet of the dueling titans. For one moment, Godzilla's foot came split them up and, once it lifted up, Shinkichi bolted. Just then, Godzilla spun his massive body in a hundred-eighty degree angle and smacked the armored reptile in the face, causing it to tumble toward a cliff and scramble to get its footing. Both men nearly felt their hearts stop as Godzilla slowly turned his attention toward them, his lips pulled back, revealing his rows of teeth. However, just as the end was about to come upon both men, the monster managed to reach its jaws over the cliff and clamp them on Godzilla's ankle, eliciting a surprised roar from the saurian. However, in his surprised state, Godzilla was unable to wrench the beast's jaws and both fell into the sea, sending up a spray that fell down like rain.
"Now's our chance!" Tsukioka yelled and both men ran over to the plane. Tsukioka opened the door and all three men jumped inside and got their seatbelts on.
"Let's get outta here before they resurface!" Kobayashi yelled.
With that, the plane roared along the surf before elevating and, as soon as the men were in the air, they peaked over to see the shadows of both monsters battling beneath the waves.
