After a long flight, the pilot was back in allied skies over Europe. The plane was headed straight towards the USSTAF airfield. This airfield was home to multiple squadrons, including the pilot's own squadron.

The pilot reduced the speed of his warbird as he slowly descended towards the airstrip. He dropped the landing gear and slowly landed on the airstrip and engaged the breaks as the landing gears touched the ground. His plane came to a stop at the very end of the airstrip.

With the landing being successful the pilot finally climbed out of his plane.

"Hiccup!" Someone suddenly called out.

The pilot or Hiccup, as he was known to his friends, turned towards the source of the voice and found his best friend, Tim 'Toothless' Fury coming towards him.

Hiccup smiled at the view of his friend and got down from his plane, just as Toothless came in front of him.

"I would ask you how your flight was, but seeing those holes, I believe it was eventful." Toothless said, glancing at the bullet holes in the fuselage.

Hiccup also glanced at them too and sighed and chuckled. The German pilots had managed to land in some shots, luckily they didn't manage to hit anywhere important.

"Yeah… But I got two more kills on my name." Hiccup said.

"What? Two more!?"

"You can check the cameras if you want proof." Hiccup said as a smirk formed on his face.

"Damn man. At this rate you'd probably become the next Hartmann."

The two friends share a laugh.

"Anyway bud, I gotta report to the superiors. Let's meet up later." Hiccup said.

"Sure thing Hicc. See ya later." And with that, Toothless left.

Hiccup went into the hanger, and changed into some more comfortable clothing before heading out to report to his superiors. On his way, he received salutes from multiple officers and fellow pilots, whom he met on his way.

Captain Hiccup Hayden Haddock the third, was a young man of 25 years age with Norwegian ancestry. A decorated pilot, an ace, serving the allied forces. And in the command of his very own squadron. A squadron of brave and ferocious pilots.

The official designation of the squadron is 588th Fighter squadron. But to others, they were more famously known by their nickname,"Dragon Squadron".

Once he had reported the events of his mission and answered any questions his superiors may have, Hiccup was dismissed for the day. The young pilot stepped out onto the runway and headed towards a nearby phone booth.

Entering the booth, he quickly inserted a coin into the machine before taking the receiver in his hands and pressing it against his ear as he dialed a number.

The phone rang for a while and Hiccup felt anxious with every ring. And suddenly someone picked up the call.

"Hello?" a familiar feminine voice asked from the other side.

"How is my little Nadder doing?" Hiccup affectionately asked.

"Hiccup?" the female voice from the other side gasped.

Hiccup smiled as he heard the voice. It was his wife, Astrid Hofferson Haddock.

"Yeah, it's me, m'lady." Hiccup replied with a smile on his face.

"Gods, it's been so long since you last called!"

"Sorry about that. The work was keeping me busy."

"It better be just work that you were doing, Haddock."

Hiccup chuckled and leaned against the booth. "No worry about that Astrid. You're the only woman in my life."

Hiccup could almost feel Astrid blushing at his comment. "By the way, how's the little one doing?"

"Oh, they're very excited to get out and see their father."

Hiccup smiled as he heard that. "Ask 'em to hold on for a bit longer. I'll be back soon."

A giggle came from the other side and then the response,"I will." There was a brief moment of silence before Astrid spoke again. "I miss you."

"I miss you too m'lady. I really wish I could have been with you, instead of here."

"But right now, you're needed more in the frontlines."

"Yeah, how about mom and dad? How are they?"

"They're doing fine. Waiting for you to return." There was a pause for a moment,"And you better return alive Haddock, or else I'll kill you myself."

Hiccup chuckled,"As much as I'd love to see how you'd do that, I intend to live and come back to you, milady."

His smile widened as he heard her giggles over the phone. But then he noticed the line was about to end and sighed. "Anyway, I'm reaching the end of the line Astrid." He said over the phone.

"Okay, guess we will talk later then. Oh! and don't forget to give those Nazis a whack for me."

Hiccup couldn't help but chuckle at that. "I surely will m'lady. Anyway, I really gotta go now. Love you."

"Love you too."

Hiccup sighed as he hung the phone back. And then he left the booth.

It was almost evening, with the sun starting to descend into the horizon. Inside one of the many hangers, Hiccup was working on his Mustang. As it appears, for some reason, the gun heaters of his plane had malfunctioned, causing his guns to freeze and jam during the high speed flight.

It took him a relatively small amount of time to fix the issue, thanks to his previous experience as a ground crew. After doing a full manual check of the systems of his aircraft, he was finally done.

Hopping off from the warbird, Hiccup brushed his palm against the body of the Mustang, his hand stopping over the dragon symbol he had painted on the plane. Hiccup smiled slightly as his fingers brushed on the symbol and the nordic runes written below it. Patting the body of his plane, Hiccup turned back towards his barracks.

Once there, the young pilot stretched his limbs and sat down on his bed. He rolled up his left pant leg, revealing his prosthetic leg. He undid the straps that connected the prosthetic to his leg, leaving the amputated stump bare to the world. Holding back a grunt as he put off the prosthetic, he put it beside him on the bed, before massaging his stump.

"Phantom pains?" Toothless asked as he entered the barracks that he and Hiccup shared.

"Yeah. Damn thing, why in the name of nine realms do I feel pain in my leg, when I don't even have a leg!" Hiccup groaned, leaning back against the wall.

Toothless laughed at his friend's words as he took a seat on his bed on the opposite side of Hiccup's.

"Ha, ha. Laugh it off you useless human." Hiccup sarcastically said.

Toothless laughed a bit more before finally getting himself back in control. "So, the war's coming to an end soon. You got any plans for what you wanna do after all this?" Toothless asked.

Hiccup straightened up hearing that question. "Well yeah. I'm retiring. Astrid's pregnant, and I wanna be there for her. And probably take over dad's business. What about you?"

"Well, I am thinking about staying in the military. Even if I don't see any action, I can train some recruits. Who knows, maybe I will train the next legend of the sky." Toothless smirked.

The both friends stared at each other for a few moments before bursting into laughter. They two friends continued with their conversation to pass the time. That's until suddenly the phone kept at their barracks began ringing.

"Let me get that." Hiccup said as he went over to the phone, hopping on his single leg.

While Toothless wasn't sure who was calling, but with how Hiccup was muttering 'yes sir, of course sir,' he was sure that the call is an important one. A bit later, Hiccup put down the phone and hopped back at his bed and began putting back his prosthetic.

"Higher ups?" Toothless asked.

"The group commander." Hiccup replied,"He was asking for me."

"Okay. Well, good luck buddy."

"Thanks, Toothless. I'll be back soon." Hiccup replied as he rolled down the pant leg and departured from the barrack.

Making his way through the air force base, he soon found himself in front of the group commander's office. He knocked on the door leading to the inside of the office, and two seconds later a gruff 'come in' was heard.

Hiccup pushed the door open and stepped inside. The group commander was seated in his desk, filling out reports to submit to the airforce high command.

"You asked for me, Commander?" Hiccup asked, standing in front of him.

"Ah, yes, Captain Haddock." The group commander looked up at him,"We might just have another mission for you."

Hiccup frowned as he heard the words and nodded. "I'm listening."
