"I wasn't expecting this to be a school for heroism," Olly said.
Izuku laughed, a nervous tone in it. "Yeah, what kind of school did you think you and Olivia were going to?"
"A school for superhumans, of course; but I had no idea we were training to be future heroes. I'm already training to be a good king...this'll just add more stress to my already busy schedule."
Kirishima came over to their table with Kaminari and Sero. "Hey, Shokunin!" He held out a deep red pepper. "Remember what I said?"
"You were actually being serious?!"
He nodded. "Pass the trial, my dear friend, and we shall see your fate!"
Olly chuckled. "You bunch are so odd, yet interesting at the same time." He accepted the pepper. "I mean, it can't be that spicy, right?"
"The hottest we could find," Kaminari boasted. "And I was the one who found it."
"Olly, I'm not sure that's a good idea," Izuku mentioned, remembering when Olly could control Seraphina's (as the Fire Vellumental was named) ability without using Manifold to do so.
He smiled at his friend. "Ooh, Izuku, you really are cautious, aren't you? Loosen up a little! I've had spicy things before, like curry. Colored Pencils makes it really hot. Scissors actually can't eat it, the way it's made from him. He has to make it not super-spicy for Scissors." His eyes widened. "And now I'm just rambling. Well, here we go."
Izuku was actually wondering how Olly had managed to eat it without a mouth. It just vanished when it came near to his face, from what Izuku saw.
"See? That wasn't too b-!" His face turned red, and he slapped his hands over his mouth.
"Hey, you alright?" Sero asked, backing away a bit. "You face is all red, and you're crying."
Olly grabbed his cup of water and gulped it down as quickly as he could without choking on it. "My mouth feels like it's on fire..." A bit of fire and smoke appeared where his mouth should be when he spoke, only to vanish again when he stopped.
"Haha, cool!" Kirishima exclaimed. "Breathe fire!"
"I can't. That's the Fire Vellumental you're thinking of." He grabbed Izuku's cup of water as well. "And I cannot use her abilities in my 'weak mortal' form. At least, that's what the Ice Vellumental told me."
"I want to see the Fire Vellumental," Sero cheered. "It sounds really cool!"
"Maybe when I need to. This is really burning my tongue...Does anyone have anymore water?"
"Aw, boo." Sero moped. "Too bad, we got to see Kori."
"Oh, that's right," Izuku said. "The Ice Vellumental was named Kori, wasn't he? What about the others?"
"Earth is...Oh Bibliofolds, get me some water please." He covered his mouth with his hand again. "It's too hot, it's burning my tongue. This is all your fault, Kirishima!"
"Can't argue there," he agreed. "I was the one who got you to do it."
"Earth is...is..." He tried to finish. "Chi-Chikiru..."
"Is that with one 'Chi' or two?" Kaminari asked.
"W-water is-is...Give me some water, please! Oh gosh...!" His eyes went from being trapezoid-shaped into thick lines that slanted upwards.
"Uh, are you okay?" Izuku asked, sharing the idea Sero had earlier and backing away.
"W-water is Le...Lemon...!" Tears formed in his eyes.
"I'm starting to regret this decision," Kirishima said.
"Oh gosh...My freaking throat..." He began crying.
"Are you dying?!" Sero panicked.
Olly screamed, Sero, Kirishima, and Kaminari being engulfed in flames. Once it cleared, they were covered in soot. Olly began coughing.
"Woah! Cool!" Kirishima exclaimed. "That was awesome!"
"Yeah! You breathed fire!" Sero cheered.
"Ow!" Kaminari added. "But still cool!"
Everybody silently stared at Olly, who was leaning against the table. It seemed like he had lost all of his color, only being black and white. He let out a final, small cough; a bit of smoke floating away when he did.
Izuku blinked at him. "Is he okay?"
"Haaah..." Olly gasped. "I think I'm dying..."
"Stop being dramatic," Bakugou snapped.
"What just happened?" Olly said, sitting back up and shaking the soot off his head. Izuku noticed his color had returned. "My throat burned, and then my voice went all scratchy..." He shook of the thought. "Anyways, Earth is Chikiru, water is Lemon, fire is Seraphina, and ice is Kori. Lemon's the youngest with Chikiru coming after, then Seraphina, then Kori. They're all siblings."
"You're fine now?" Izuku asked. "How the heck?"
"Like I said, I eat spicy food all the time!"
"No kidding."
Kirishima, Kaminari, and Sero all returned to their seats.
"Although...I feel all warm inside. It's kind of nice! No wonder people love to snuggle up!"
"Huh?! Where's that coming from?" Izuku asked.
"I'm always really cold...It's so nice feeling warm. Ahh..." His eyes slanted again.
"Are you dead or something?"
"Huh?" He opened his eyes. "No? Technically, I should be, but I'm not. What brings that up?"
"Because...Eh, it doesn't matter."
"Okay. How do I get a cool uniform like you?"
"You have to send in measurements. It'll take a few days to a week to get it for you and your sister."
"Mm...That'll take too long. You said Manifold was one of my Quirks, right? Do you want to see me use it to not fold into the Vellumentals?"
"Huh? Sure?"
Olly stood from the chair and backed away from the table. Izuku turned to watch. Olly started off by tucking his arms into his body, then unfolded after that. Izuku couldn't see any of the folds or creases on Olly's paper body. He also noticed the only colors on the paper were for his head and purple part of his body; along with his eyes.
Where did the gold and mauve and blond go? He pondered.
Olly had folded into a smaller, less humanoid form of himself. His body was an almost rectangle shape, the bottom being a little wider than his head. He didn't look much different, his angled eyes still a black color and he still had that visible fold down the center of his body. The main differences Izuku noticed were that his limbs were now triangles and he no longer had his sideburns or curls.
He smiled at Izuku. "Well? I think I did a pretty good job replicating your uniform. Does it look alright?"
Izuku blinked. "You uh...you..."
"Oh, I should probably take off my crown." He reached up and removed his crown. He folded it into a small square and shoved it into his folds. "Are you alright? You're strangely quiet."
"You...you're...You're so tiny!"
"Weh?!" He looked at his hands. "O-oh! I didn't mean to do that! I meant to be big, gosh darn it!"
"Where did your bangs go when you unfolded? How are your clothes grey now?"
"That's a special Origami Folk skill. We can change our paper colors, if we choose to."
"You know a lot about Origami Folk for you and your sister being the only ones that exist."
Olly turned his back to Izuku. "Well...we aren't the only ones to exist. There were two before us as well, but they are long gone now."
"Oh...Um, sorry."
He faced Izuku again. "Why are you apologizing? Death is the natural order of life. Without it, the world would be too overpopulated and all of our necessities would run out and we would starve, but not to death no, since that would be impossible in a deathless world-"
"Okay Olly, that's enough of that."
"Anyhow, this is my true form. It's not much, but this is how I looked when I was born."
"How old are you? You act like you're twenty or something."
"Twelve. Forever."
"Huh?! Then why are you and Olivia at UA? This is a High School, not Middle School!"
"Did you not hear the other half of that statement...? We cannot age, that'll be impossible."
"How?"
"Imagine this, you were born as you are now. That seems pretty impossible, right?"
"That's completely impossible."
"Well, not for Origami Folk!" His face beamed. He was clearly pleased to be able to explain this to someone. "We are folded to life at a certain age. In our case, twelve. It'll be unfair for us to age like you. Imagine if one of us was folded into adulthood. They won't live long at all!"
"But why twelve? Wouldn't you start off as a baby? Plus, that would be super adorable."
"Ooh, I thank the Bibliofolds that we didn't. You see, we don't age. If we were stuck as infants...well, you can see where this is going."
"Are you saying you'll be stuck as babies forever?"
"Yes. You're understanding this really well!" He clapped. "Anywho...we need to be old enough to learn. To make mistakes and grow from them."
"So you were folded an age to fit that?" Izuku asked, finally starting to understand.
He nodded. "Yes! If we were adults, we would be adults while still not knowing a thing!"
"But you're pretty smart for a twelve-year-old."
"The Origami Craftsman taught me well, I must say. He read me stories all the time, and even taught me some origami!"
"But why don't you age? That's what I don't understand."
Olly's expression grew serious. "We are souls in paper. Paper doesn't age. Paper doesn't live. Paper is just a lifeless form of craft."
"Please stop doing that! You're scary when you do that."
"We have tears, yet we can get soggy from them. We have fire and yet, still burn. Paper is nothing and everything all at once. Paper is life and paper is death. I'm trapped in a paper world with paper souls all around me-"
"I told you to stop that!"
"Ah. Sorry, I was rambling, wasn't I? I do that sometimes. People get pretty freaked out when I do, and I have no idea why..."
"No wonder." Izuku grabbed his lunch tray. "Anyways, we should probably head to class now..."
"Oh, right. I'll be right behind you!"
Izuku shuddered as he walked off. "What's with him?"
