Upon returning to Salacia, the girls quickly made arrangements for Dinho to attend the Sea School. Dinho's parents and Miss Marla agreed on this and Miss Marla, on the suggestion of the girls, allowed them to present their assignment to the class, during which they would introduce Dinho to them as well. In order to keep Dinho's appearance a surprise to the others, the girls only spoke with Dinho over the phone while they finished their assignment at the Octopus Palace.
Finally, the big day had come. As class started for the morning, Miss Marla took the roll before she began. "Alright, class, I have a little surprise for you today. Polvina, Ester and Tubarina have asked if they could present their assignment to the class, so let's give them our full attention as they talk about the guardians of Salacia. Over to you, girls."
Polvina, Ester and Tubarina each took turns to speak as they presented to the class:
"In a time when life in the sea was chaotic, the goddess Salacia brought order to everything."
"She divided her world and created the many kingdoms to care for all the sea creatures, including the plants and the rocks and the reefs."
"She appointed a king and queen for each kingdom, and their families would become the royal families for their kingdoms as well."
"But legend says that after the goddess Salacia created the kingdoms, she appointed one species to watch over everything."
"To keep the kingdoms accountable to her laws."
"To protect the wisdom of the ocean and safeguard her legacy."
"My family believes that it's the octopuses."
"My family believes that it's the starfish."
"My family believes that it's the sharks."
"If someone were to ask you who the guardians are, you would say that it was your own species."
"But if everyone here says that the guardians were their own species, then who are the true guardians of Salacia?"
"So why don't we bring in someone we've never met before and ask them who they are? Over to you!"
The door opened and Dinho walked into the classroom. The class murmured to each other in surprise as they had never seen him in Salacia before.
Polvina began asking Dinho to introduce himself as if they hadn't met before. Of course, this was all part of the presentation. "Why, hello there. We've never seen you in Salacia before. I'm Polvina, the Octopus Princess; these are my friends Ester and Tubarina; this is our teacher Miss Marla; and this is the rest of our class. Why don't you introduce yourself to everyone here?"
Dinho began, "Hello everyone. I'm Dinho, the Blowfish Prince. I'm a Vir-"
"-gin," Marcello interjected. That mildly inappropriate joke earned the snickers of the few boys in the class, including Hugo, Sirilo, Maurico and even the Solefish Prince Flourison. In contrast, Caramelo didn't find it funny and neither did the girls, which poses the question of whether the princes and princesses of Salacia in general were more (im)mature for their age.
"Marcello, do you want to stay back at recess?" asked Miss Marla.
"No, Miss Marla. Sorry, girls," apologised Marcello.
Dinho continued, "So, as I was saying, I'm Dinho, the Blowfish Prince, I'm a Virgo and I've never really met any of the other princes and princesses because of my family's duties across Salacia, so I really want to know how other princes and princesses live."
Ester then asked Dinho, "So, Dinho, there's one thing we'd like to know. Who would you say are the guardians of Salacia?"
There was a pause in the room before Dinho answered, "The blowfish."
Tubarina appeared shocked. "What a surprise! The Blowfish Prince thinks the guardians are the blowfish! That didn't answer our question!"
"But Tubarina, if everyone says the guardians are their own species, don't you know what this means?" replied Polvina in rebuttal.
"What does it mean?"
"It means that we are all the true guardians of Salacia!" said Ester.
"How?"
Dinho asked, "Don't you remember the Laws of Salacia? First Law: Never show yourself to a Drylander."
Polvina followed, "Second Law: Practice good, goodwill and generosity."
Then came Ester, "Third Law: Take care of your kingdom."
Back to Tubarina, "Fourth Law: Take care of the other kingdoms."
And finally, all four of them, "Fifth Law: Respect all kingdoms as one."
"You see, Tubarina? The point isn't that only one species are the true guardians of Salacia, but every species!" said Polvina.
"Our families' copies of the History of Salacia are written that way precisely to remind us of the Laws of Salacia, especially the Fifth Law," said Ester.
"Aside from looking after each and every kingdom, we also have the responsibility to protect the wisdom of the ocean, safeguard the legacy of the goddess Salacia and keep the kingdoms accountable to her laws."
"Hey, I finally get it now! Sharks, starfish, octopuses, blowfish, we're all the true guardians of Salacia!" concluded Tubarina.
Miss Marla and the class applauded the girls and Dinho for their presentation before Miss Marla addressed the class, "Thank you girls and Dinho, that was a wonderful presentation. Now, Dinho said that he wanted to know how princes and princesses live in Salacia since he and his family live in the metropolis. So I'd like you all to make Dinho feel welcome as he joins our class in between his duties across Salacia."
"Yes, Miss Marla," said the class in unison before Miss Marla began the day's lessons.
