Carlos gets up and has breakfast on Friday morning. He's overjoyed that he's finally thirteen. He hopes that the school day goes rapidly to ensure that he can have his birthday party.
"Dude, are you really reading this?" Asks James.
"Because I'm allergic to exercise and knowledge is power." Logan responds, avoiding eye contact.
"You don't want to enjoy yourself?" Asks James.
"I AM having fun, but your constant interruptions are making it very difficult to do so." Annoyed, Logan answers back.
"James, you don't have to reveal that he is not very athletic." Mispronouncing the term, Carlos says.
"It has a real physical inclination. which I'm not. Logan corrected him politely, "It means I'm not made for moving around endlessly in hopes of improving my body image."
"If you work really hard at it, you can succeed. While you're a couch potato in gym class, you're a beast on the hockey rink."Kendall emphasizes.
"That is distinct, Kenny. Kids that take gym class always make fun of my poor athletics. I feel awkward and uneasy about that. On the rink playing hockey with you guys. I have so much more self-assurance. I apologize if my level of sportiness isn't up to your standards. Regarding that, Carlos, happy birthday."states Logan.
"Thank you, Logie. If we're pressuring you to perform better, we apologize. You are who you are, and we like that. There is no need for you to alter." Says Carlos.
Dave and Buster's is hosting Carlos' birthday celebration later that day. He is overjoyed to be there.
"We're going to have a great time, guys! Do you like my party's theme?" With excitement, he asks.
"Yes, planets, spacecraft, and aliens. You wish to become an astrologer without a doubt." Logan answers.
"Ah, Logie. I promised you I would meet an actual alien. I'm aware of it. All I know is that my request will be granted. It simply must."claims Carlos.
"Sure, buddy, if that's what you really want." It's your big day." Logan says, beaming at his upbeat attitude.
"You're the best, always supporting my wishes, even when they seem strange and impossible to you." I'm so glad you don't think I'm crazy for believing in aliens." Carlos expresses himself.
"I'll never call you stupid, Carlos." You're the most happy, joyful kid I've ever encountered. Your view on life is great. I'm honored to be your brother. When you meet your future alien pal, they will adore you." Logan explains.
"Many thanks, amigo. "Do you want to go karting first?" Carlos enquires.
"It's up to you. This is your party." Kendall states.
"Go karts here we come!" Carlos exclaims as he dashes outdoors to the location where they are.
After strapping in, the boys stare at the lights that flash red, yellow, and green to signal the start of the race. Their competitive nature emerges as they attempt to outrun one other on the racetrack.
Carlos has won the race by the conclusion. He applauds and high fives his friends.
"Excellent work, guys. You performed fantastic out there. That was entertaining." He says.
They all start blasting each other, laughing and having a good time. They then play a variety of arcade games to earn points toward prizes. Then it's time for cake, pizza, and presents. Carlos graciously enjoys everything.
After that, the party continues at his house with video games. He rushes out of the bathroom to his friends.
"Look what I found, guys!" An article claiming that aliens will be here tonight! Dreams can and do come true! This is going to be fantastic! "I have to make them a present!" Carlos rushes upstairs to his room.
"What was the point of that?" "Which article?" Kendall says as he picks up the paper.
"That wasn't done professionally." "What exactly is going on?" Logan observes it as well.
James whistles casually and wanders away to the couch.
"James, don't you know something about this?" "What exactly did you do?" Kendall replies, sensing something horrible is going on.
"Earlier this week I tried to get Frankie from the yearbook club to let me in the room to use the printer but he wouldn't let me and told me the that it's for members only and I'm not one and that the club is full so later that day I snuck in and made up that entire article and tonight we're going to dress up as aliens to make Carlos' dream a reality." James elaborates.
Kendall and Logan stare at him blankly, then at each other, then back at him.
"You've done something wrong. You misappropriated school property, went into a club room without permission, and lied to Carlos." Kendall is enraged.
"You shouldn't have done all that." Logan continues his reprimand.
"We can discuss this later." He's returning downstairs. Nothing should be spoken about it. "We have to figure out how to make this work," Kendall adds as he hears the young Latino's footsteps descend downstairs.
"I'm back with a special message." Carlos says this while holding up a small poster he made.
"In both English and Spanish, it says Welcome Alien Buddy. Why?" Logan inquires.
"In case they're bilingual like me." Carlos responds.
Several hours later.
Carlos is resisting the impulse to stay awake several hours after partying till 30 minutes before midnight in order to await his probable alien buddy's arrival. Kendall and James are wide awake and attempt to rouse Logan as well.
"Huh?" He says this while sitting up in his sleeping bag, groggily.
"It's time to put our plan into action." James whispers.
"Carlos is using the restroom. Come on, let's get going before he gets back." Kendall adds in a faint, quiet voice.
"This strategy will fail." We must not crush his feelings. Tell the truth to him." Logan yawns and lies down again, but is dragged into the closet.
"Listen, this is our one chance to make him stop this alien believing nonsense." If he sees one, he'll get it out of his system. It's a case of reverse psychology." According to James.
"That's not how reverse psychology works." Logan sighs and palms his face.
"Whatever. Simply do it." Kendall sighs and rolls his eyes.
"No, you're just being rude, and I'm going to tell him everything!" I'm not ruining his birthday! You'll show me some respect if you want this insane idea to work!" Logan is irritated.
"You're correct. I apologize." Kendall explains.
"OK, I really don't feel comfortable doing this. Carlos is the sweetest child I've ever met. "Do you really want to put his trust in us at risk?" Logan explains.
"We're not hurting him we're helping him." James states.
"Fine, but I'm not taking the blame if we're caught." Logan explains.
"Got it. We won't get you in trouble." Kendall reassures him.
