Chapter 7

Date at the Movie Theater

It was a bright and peaceful day at Brighton when Molly decided to hang out with Ollie by helping him pick up trash at the park. They both cared about the environment so much and wanted to keep their hometown as clean as possible.

A couple of hours went by before Molly and Ollie managed to clean up the whole park. With all of the litter picked up, the two friends gave each other a high five, congratulating each other for a job well done. After all of the work they had done, Molly and Ollie decided to take a break by sitting down on a park bench.

"Whew! That took a little longer than I thought, but it was worth it in the end!" Ollie looked around the now clean park. "Thanks for helping out, Molly!"

"Don't mention it, Ollie! I care about the environment as much as you do, after all!" Molly replied, happy to help. "Now this park is perfect for humans and ghosts to hang out at!"

Ollie nodded in agreement. "You're right! If only my parents would feel the same way though."

"Don't worry! I'm sure that we will get your parents to see that ghosts can be good!" Molly assured. "I mean, June seems to be getting along with ghosts pretty well lately!"

"Yeah, she really is! Just the other day, June met up with Geoff and Jeff on her way home from school, and she was asking them all kinds of ghost related questions! She is just really eager to learn more about the Ghost World! Speaking of which, how is running the Ghost World going for you so far?" Ollie asked.

"Exhausting." Molly replied with a sigh. "Ever since I skipped out on my training to go to Libby's birthday party, the Ghost Council ended up being more strict than ever with my training. I barely had time to spend time with Libby, but it would thankfully all change because Libby and I plan to have a date at the movie theater later today!"

"Aww! That's really sweet!" Ollie smiled. "I hope you two have fun on your date!"

"I'm sure we will! That reminds me, I'd better get back home to get ready." Molly stood up from the bench before waving goodbye to Ollie. "Bye, Ollie! I'll see you later!"

Ollie waved goodbye back as he watched Molly leave. "See ya, Molly! Good luck on your date!"

Once Molly returned home, she spent the next couple of hours getting ready for her date with Libby. She finished up brushing her hair before getting a text from Libby. Molly picked up her phone to see that Libby was on her way.

With a smile, Molly returned to her room to say goodbye to Scratch. Her ghost friend was just laying around, as usual, ready to sleep the day away. It was at that moment when Molly tiptoed towards Scratch, and booped him on the nose, waking him up.

As he opened his eyes, Scratch stared at Molly in annoyance. "What do you want, Molly?"

"Oh, just thought I'd say goodbye to you before I go on my date with Libby! And to let you know that I'm taking the Chairman's cloak with me!" Molly replied before showing Scratch the cloak. "We can't let Jinx have it!"

"Yeah! Yeah! I'm sure you have nothing to worry about! Just let me get some sleep!" Scratch rolled to his side.

It wasn't long before the doorbell could be heard. Excited, Molly looked outside to see Libby was waiting for her at the front door.

"Oh, it's Libby! I'll see you later, Scratch!" Molly waved goodbye before meeting up with her girlfriend.

Now that he was finally able to get some peace and quiet, Scratch began to relax. He closed his eyes and was ready to go to sleep before he heard a portal open right next to him. Assuming that it was Geoff, Scratch let out an annoyed groan.

"Go away, Geoff! I'm not in the mood to hang out with you!"

"This is not Geoff!" A female voice could be heard instead.

At that moment, Scratch woke up with a start before he realized that it was Jinx who he was talking to. He didn't know what Jinx was doing here, but could tell that she was up to no good.

"I thought I'd find you laying around here, Scratch!" said Jinx.

"Yeah, what else is new? If your looking for the cloak, you're wasting your time! You won't find it here!" Scratch replied.

Jinx expected as much, so she took a moment to ponder where the cloak could be. "Hmm. If the cloak isn't here, then I'm assuming that it is currently with Molly, correct?"

At that moment, Scratch began to panic. "Uh, maybe? Even if it is I'm sure you won't be able to find her, anyway!" Scratch taunted.

"Oh, you forget, Scratch! Nothing contains more joy than Molly's positivity! All I have to do is track her down!" Jinx smirked as she pulled out her joy tracker.

Before Scratch could stop Jinx, she already flew out the window in pursuit of Molly. Realizing his mistake, Scratch desperately tried to think of a way to stop Jinx. Ollie and June were the only ones who were able to capture Jinx, but Scratch couldn't just enter a house of ghost hunters. He needed a new plan.

As Scratch floated through the house to think of something, he noticed Darryl's phone on the table. He took a closer look to see that Darryl has been texting June. This gave Scratch an idea.

Picking up the phone, Scratch typed, 'Emergency! Find Ollie and tell him that you two need to come over here now! Don't forget to bring your ghost hunting gear!' before pressing send.

Meanwhile, at the Chen's household, June heard a ding from her phone. She picked up her phone and was confused by the message Darryl just sent her. Sensing that something was wrong, June hurried to find her brother before telling him what was going on. The two siblings then hurried over to the McGee house, hoping that everything was okay.

"So, why do you think Darryl sent you an urgent text like that?" Ollie asked his sister. "Do you think it's a prank?"

"I don't know, but I'm not taking any chances! The McGees could be in danger!" June replied as she rushed over to the house.

Right as Ollie and June were about to knock on the door, they were startled when Scratch suddenly appeared in front of them. This caused Ollie and June to scream before falling back in shock.

"Oh, good! You're here!" Scratch said, not even bothering asking if they are okay. "I'm glad that you were able to get the text I sent!"

"Wait, that was you?" June asked.

"Yes! Look, Jinx was here earlier today, looking for the cloak!" Scratch explained.

"Really? You didn't tell her where it was, did you?" Ollie asked in concern.

At that moment, Scratch rubbed the back of his head as he awkwardly looked away. "Uh, I might have let it slip that Molly currently has the cloak."

With an annoyed sigh, June placed a hand over her face in a facepalm. "Really, Scratch? That was kind of dumb of you!"

"Okay! It might be partially my fault, but now's not the time to play the blame game! Molly and Libby are on their way to the movie theater! We need to get there before Jinx does!" Scratch urged everyone to hurry.

Without wasting a second, Scratch, Ollie, and June hurried over to the movie theater. They were all determined to do whatever it took to stop Jinx from ruining Molly and Libby's date.

Meanwhile at the movie theater, Molly and Libby entered the lobby as they got ready to watch a new horror movie that just came out. Even though Libby was used to seeing horror related stuff, she still wanted to make sure that Molly was okay with it.

"So, are you sure you are fine with watching the new movie, Molly?" Libby asked her girlfriend.

"Sure! My parents are fine with it as long as it's rated PG13." Molly replied. "No matter what movie we watch, I'm sure that I would have a fun time with you!"

"I know I will have fun with you too, Sunshine!" Libby smiled.

After buying snacks and drinks, Molly and Libby made their way into the movie theater. The girls stumbled through the dark room before finding their seats, right in time for the movie to begin. Molly and Libby kept their attention on the movie, eating popcorn together. They were so distracted they accidentally touched hands from trying to reach the popcorn. Once they realized what happened, Molly and Libby turned to one another before they smiled, both of them already enjoying their date.

Meanwhile, Scratch, Ollie and June entered the lobby as they began their search for Jinx. They took a look at the ghost trackers to see that there are two ghost entities in the theater. Since Scratch was already with them, Ollie and June knew that Jinx was already here.

"Looks like Jinx is here!" Ollie noticed. "We'd better stop her before she ruins Molly and Libby's date!"

"There is no way that Jinx would show herself in a public place like this, so she has to be invisible." June explained before putting on a pair of goggles. "These should help us track her down!"

At that moment, the group of friends began to follow the ghost signal, earning a bunch of weirded out looks from everyone in the theater. The signal got stronger before they took notice of Jinx, who was tracking something as well.

Jinx floated through the hall before the signal of her tracker led her to a nearby room. A smile crept across Jinx's face once she finally found Molly. She floated through a nearby wall before Scratch, Ollie, and June gave chase.

"This must be the theater room Molly and Libby are in." June noticed.

"Then we'd better hurry! Let's go!" Ollie led Scratch and June in the theater room.

The darkness of the room was lit up by the various ghost catching devices Ollie and June were carrying. It wasn't long before Scratch, Ollie, and June took notice of Molly and Libby sitting together, having a wonderful date. They soon gazed at the trackers again and started to panic when they realized that Jinx was already behind Molly and Libby.

Unaware of Jinx's presence, Molly and Libby snuggled close to one another before the two girlfriends shared a kiss with each other. Molly and Libby were so distracted by the movie that they were unaware that Scratch, Ollie, and June were approaching their seats in an effort to stop Jinx.

Before Jinx was able to find the cloak, she took notice of Scratch, along with the two ghost hunters charging after her. With a growl, Jinx made her escape as she flew out of the room.

"Quick! We can't let her get away!" Ollie said as he let the others out of the room.

This ended up catching Molly and Libby's attention. They shared a couple of confused glances with each other as they could have sworn they heard Ollie.

"Did you hear something?" Libby asked her girlfriend.

"Yeah, it kind of sounded like Ollie." Molly replied.

The two girlfriends looked around the room, not realizing that their friends already left. Thinking nothing of it, Molly and Libby shrugged it off before bringing their attention back to the movie.

Meanwhile, Scratch and the others continued to track down Jinx before they managed to corner her. Even with Jinx being invisible, Ollie and June still knew exactly where she was, thanks to their devices.

"Don't even bother hiding, Jinx! We know you are there!" Ollie aimed his blaster at Jinx.

Despite being cornered, Jinx didn't appear to be the least bit worried. She merely took out her scythe as she was ready to fight back.

"Oh, it's cute that you think you can capture me!" Jinx mocked. "Do you really think that I'm just going to let you three interfere with my plans?"

"Just give it up already, Jinx! You are never going to be the Chairwoman!" Scratch yelled.

"I will be once I get rid of you three!"

At that moment, Jinx swung her scythe, swiftly destroying the blasters. That was when the siblings back up in fear as Jinx was ready to kill them.

"Now, any last words?"Jinx taunted.

"Uh, yeah. Those weren't the last of our gadgets that you destroyed." June explained before reaching into her pocket and taking out a smaller blaster.

Taking Jinx by surprised, June fired the blaster, pinning Jinx's hand to the wall with goo, similar to how Ollie captured Scratch. Jinx attempted to free her hand with her scythe, only for her other hand to be pinned to the wall as well.

"Alright! We got her!" Scratch exclaimed. "Looks like she won't be bothering Molly and Libby anymore!"

"Don't think that this is over! I promise that I will have my revenge on all of you!" Jinx declared.

Before the siblings could capture her, Jinx summoned a portal to the Ghost World behind her. This managed to free Jinx before she made her escape in the Ghost World. As Jinx got away, everyone sighed in disappointment.

"Well, that could have gone better." Ollie said in disappointment.

"At least we still managed to stop Jinx." June replied.

Said girlfriends soon opened the door shortly afterwards as the movie they were watching just ended. That was when Scratch and the others hidden themselves from Molly and Libby's sight, not wanting to interrupt their date.

"Sweet baby corn! That movie was amazing!" Molly exclaimed.

"I know! Even I got scared at certain parts of the film!" Libby replied. "I'm so happy that we got to have this date! Maybe we can have another movie date next weekend!"

"There is nothing I would like more than to spend my weekend with you, Ahuvati!" Molly smiled before she and Libby passionately kissed each other on the lips.

"Aww!" Ollie and June awed in unison, happy that Molly and Libby got to have the perfect date.

With their date over, Molly and Libby left the theater as Molly escorted Libby home. It was at that moment when Scratch and the others got up from their hiding spot, relieved that Jinx didn't ruin Molly and Libby's date.

"I can't believe that after all that, we still weren't able to capture Jinx." Scratch complained.

"Well, on the bright side, at least Molly and Libby got to have their perfect date!" June assured.

"Yeah! Mollibby is still alive!" Ollie cheered in victory.

"Sheesh that couple name is catching on real fast." Scratch rolled his eyes, remembering how often he heard that name at the Brighton Bop.

With Jinx gone, Scratch, Ollie, and June decided to return home as well. Exhausted from his long day, Scratch laid down on his spiderweb hammock before Molly arrived shortly afterwards. That was when Molly began to tell Scratch all about her wonderful date with Libby. Little did Molly know that Scratch was already there to see how it turned out.
