Hyper Drive :
This Engine lowers the mass of an object, while still creating a Subspace Bubble. This technology allows ships to move at faster then light speeds, while not disturbing the space they traveled through.
It is not safe to "jump" more then 42 light years, at a time. Then the ship needs to rest the "Hyper Drive" for 5 hours. However, it is possible to continue to travel, at faster then light speeds, through the more traditional "Mass Effect Engine", during this "resting" period.
It only takes 7 months, to travel the distance between galaxies. And 3 months, to travel across the largest Galaxy. Where "jumps", no matter the distance, take an hour. As Sub space, technically, exist at the edge of the universe's boarders.
Dyson Sphere :
Mass Effect Engines were deployed, along with artificial gravity, to make Dyson Spheres more practical for Organic Lifeforms. As their gravity was permanently altered to Earth Norm, despite having the mass of a Solar System.
The average space station was the size of a small moon, but most governments have at least 1 Dyson Sphere.
The Federation figured out how to build these, after a hundred years of studying an ancient Sphere the Enterprise-D, had stumbled on.
Then the Wizards, used their knowledge of "extension charms", to create trillions of pocket dimensions inside. Each the size of a small town.
Replicators :
Replicators use raw matter, and Lyrium based power, to materialize near any object. With both resources being sold, at low cost, to operate the machine.
Many companies, exclusively sell programs for the Replicator, as opposed to physical merchandise. Which allowed people to repeatedly materialize their own infinite supply of the goods. Limited only by the amount of raw matter, and mineralized magic, they have access to.
Unfortunately, soon after the introduction of Replicators, into the larger universe, secrets many farming worlds revolted, as this would have crippled their economies. So replicated food, outside licensed restaurants and Starfleet Ships, was made illegal. With the license extremely hard to get approval for, and expensive to purchase. So it's mostly been reserved for preexisting fast food chains.
The Replication of Medicines is still permitted. But a "Prescription" is required to be updated, by an licensed medical doctor.
However, Replicators can still create nearly anything else. From computers to building materials, for houses to starships. By manipulating the particles, in the raw matter stored inside the machine, to turn it into anything else.
Rejuve Pods :
These Pods physically regress individuals, by converting them into energy, and then removing genetic markers. As such, people can only be regressed into prepubescent bodies.
- With all excess matter, permanently transformed into raw magic, and added to their magical pathways.
This means, Rejuve Pods, can actually unlock the magical potential, in people originally born without magic.
And given it's been over 300 years, all Citadel affiliated species, have gained magical powers.
Where already magical beings, permanently become more powerful, each time they are rejuved... although their young bodies, have to be re-taught control of this power boost.
- Better safeties were installed, and memory blocks were set up. While the kids remember the gist of their lives. All the key moments are preserved. Even their personality remains intact. But kids aren't meant to deal with adult traumas, so their memories are "clouded", to give more a vague Awareness.
A side effect is their education, also becomes pretty vague. They will remember everything, eventually, but the memory block lifts slowly, as they age. So they don't get overwhelmed.
Due to this... most species of the Citadel, send their Rejuved children to schools. More to insure their adult knowledge is correctly, and slowly, integrating with their child bodies.
• Rejuve Brands :
The Citadel has found many uses for the Rejuve Pods.
They will physically mark people, who were regressed. By tattooing the back of their hands, but leaving first time children unmarked.
Once Rejuve children, reach their physical prime (usually at 30), they have their brands removed. As they are legally recognized as adults. When all the "Legal Privileges" they have slowly gained, over the years since reaching sexual maturity, become "Rights".
• an "M" represents a medical, or psychological reason, for the individual to be regressed in age. As this can repair crippling, or even life threatening, injuries.
It can even be used to treat Genetic disorders, by turning the patient into energy, and removing the genes.
• The "V" stands for volunteers. As some people desire to re-live their childhood. To potentially have a better one. This happens a lot with victims of abuse or neglect. Whom are usually adopted by close friends, or benevolent family members.
• The "S" stands for "Special Forces". Which are departments like Superheroes, Spectres, Shinobi, and other galactic champions. When these individuals are regressed.
They are often retrained as apprentices. As their Chakra becomes unstable, and their bodies can no longer handle the strain of channeling their power.
So they need to re-learn control. For their burst of "Accidental Magic" are a danger to all those around them.
Pennies :
Not all regressions, are done through technology, but were certainly inspired by it.
"Pennies" are Criminals, who are magically cursed with the bodies of children... even races that can't actually be children, such as Synthetic Lifeforms, or Covenant Hunters. Trapping them at a specific age, until the spell is lifted, and they revert back to the age they were regressed to... although a side effect is they often lose muscle mass, when restored.
This lets criminals be re-raised, in a firm but nurturing environment. In the hopes, a better childhood and extended childhood, will help them grow into better people.
• Most Pennies remain cursed, from anywhere between 10 to 100 years. All depending on how well they adapt to their re-education.
Traditional Sentencing, which once lasted a specific number of years, is now considered "counterproductive". With all sentences lasting as long as it takes to "Reform" the individual.
• Criminals undergo three attempts to be reformed. (Meaning sentenced to a Penny colony, on 3 separate occasions, for 3 separate crimes.) Before they are sentenced to prison.
There, they are not cursed or Rejuved, but live out the rest of their adult lives. Depending on the severity of their crime, is what level of prison/comfort they are given.
With minimum security, being near a luxury resort, that they simply can never leave.
While a "Triple Max Prison", is a way to get around the outlawing of the death penalty. Being held on planets with such harsh environments, the prisoners nearly always die within 20 years.
