Faith Lahaine and her Watcher, Professor Diana Dormer, arrived before the week ended.
"You want to tell me why the Council ordered us here, Mr. Giles? I was under the impression that there already was a Slayer here, odd as that sounds, given that there has not ever been more then one at a time before."
"As I recently had to explain to my whitelighter friend, that's my fault." Xander raised his hand. "Buffy drowned and I revived her with CPR."
"And Buffy is not here right now because she has run away and we have been unable to find her. The Slayer detection spell doesn't seem to be working." Giles informed them.
"Of course it's not working. She died! Mr. Giles have you forgotten everything you learned at the Academy? When a Slayer dies, the Essence moves on and a new Slayer Is chosen. The Slayer detection spell detects the Essence."
"I did forget that. It simply never occurred to me."
"And who are these other people?"
"This is Xander Harris, it's recently been discovered that his great grandmother was a whitelighter and he has begun manifesting abilities and a whitelighter has been assigned to guide him. The manifestation is not yet complete and he hopes to finish out his senior year before it becomes necessary for him to leave Sunnydale and the vicinity of the Hellmouth."
"I hope you've made arrangements in the event your abilities do manifest before then."
"Yeah, I'm going to be going to San Francisco. My whitelighter is going to be teaching me carpentry, it's his cover. Right now he's teaching me boxing, we meet once a week in Oxnard, since he can't come near the Hellmouth for long."
"Good, inherited whitelighter abilities are rare. And whether inherited or not, always needed."
"And this is his girlfriend, Cordelia Chase. Cordelia has recently learned that she is related to the Halliwell's. Her powers were bound as a child, along with her mother's, when her mother chose to marry a mortal who knew nothing of Magic and lived here in Sunnydale. She plans to leave after graduation as well and join the Halliwell's in San Francisco, where her powers can be safely unbound and they can properly instruct her."
"A Halliwell witch? One of the oldest and most powerful witch lines ever. You are certainly full of surprises, Mr. Giles."
"Yes, quite. This is Willow Rosenberg. Willow was intending to be a practicioner witch. Unfortunately, her first casting was a curse on the vampire Angelus and she accidentally drew Hellmouth energy instead of Magic. Xander's whitelighter alerted us to it and earlier this week we did a cleansing."
"I heard about that business with your Slayer and Angelus. What were you thinking?!"
"That she was happier and more productive while involved with him. I should never have allowed it, I'm more then aware of what the consequences have been. And we're not entirely sure of the full damage the Hellmouth energy did to Willow. Meanwhile, she has opted to not continue studying Magic."
"And if we do need magical support, we have a friend who channels Hecate. Her name is Amy and she's agreed to help if we need it." Xander added.
"I believe you should all do a cleansing. Especially you two." Diana indicated Xander and Cordelia. "Given your potential susceptibility, it would be a wise precaution."
"She is probably right. Xander when is the next time you're meeting with your whitelighter?"
"Tomorrow."
"You should speak to him. Whitelighters may have specific cleanses that work best for them. And Cordelia, I suggest you call your family and see if they have developed any of their own as well."
After agreeing, the teenagers invited Faith to go to the Bronze with them.
"The Bronze?" She asked.
"Local teen and young adult hang out spot." Xander told her.
"You may go, Faith. It is also likely a favorite place for vampires, so familiarizing yourself with it is a good idea. And unlike the Council, I do not mind if you have friends."
"Thanks D. See you later."
"Now, Mr. Giles. You and I have a great many things to discuss." Professor Diana Dormer said.
"Yes, ma'am."
"Giles seems a little intimidated by your Watcher." Xander said, as they left the school.
"Her nickname is The Battle-ax. And no, I didn't give her that name."
"I think it's going to be fun having you two here. Just the thought of watching her make Giles squirm is entertaining." Xander commented, with a big grin.
