A/N Yes I'm aware that the truth spell and telling Andy happened at a different time in canon then I'm using it in my story. I'm essentially moving the episode 'The truth is out there...and it hurts' forward. Why? Because I thought the truth spell would be funny.
Finally the spell wore off and everyone happily and hungrily gathered around the table.
"Gods, you really are a great cook, Piper." Cordelia moaned. "I'm so full."
"If I wasn't in love with Cordy and friends with Leo, I'd beg you to marry me. Not even Lupe cooks that good, all though I'll never, ever tell her that."
"Who's Lupe?" Phoebe asked.
"Our housekeeper. She's adores Xander. And I won't ever tell her either."
After the incredible meal, they just sat around talking for awhile before they started yawning.
"I think it's time to call it a day, we've got some things planned for tomorrow. Let me show you guys to your rooms. Cordelia said you won't be sharing a room while you're here."
"Uh, no. Even if we were in um share mode, Cordelia's father knows I'm here and he gave me the evil eye before we left. I'm pretty sure he expects me to be on my best behavior." Xander told her.
"No doubt." Leo was grinning, clearly amused.
"This was Grams room." Prue said, showing Cordelia a large and beautiful room.
"It's beautiful. Thank you."
"Xander, I'm afraid the only other room available is Gram's sewing room and it's just got a daybed ."
"I don't mind, I'm a guy, I can sleep pretty much anywhere."
Once everyone had settled down for the night, they were soon asleep. The next morning brought another delicious Piper meal.
"If you two wouldn't mind, we have something we want to show you upstairs, in the attic." Prue said, once breakfast was finished.
Neither Xander nor Cordelia could see anything wrong with that and followed them upstairs to an open attic area.
"This is the Halliwell Book of Shadows." Prue said. "It's been in the family since the Salem Witch Trials. Would each of you put your hand on it?"
Not seeing any harm in it, they each did so. The book responded. It glowed.
"What's going on?" Cordelia asked.
"The book is sort of alive. If you'd been evil, it would have thrown you across the room."
"A test." Xander said.
"Yes, we had to be sure. We've been tricked before, including by a demon pretending to be our own father. The glow says, the book is accepting you both."
"Understandable. Too bad we don't have something like that. It could save us a lot of time and hassle back in Sunnydale."
"Now what?" Cordelia asked.
"Now we give you what we hope is a gift." She went to a trunk and opened it up, she handed two candles to Piper and two to Phoebe and took one herself. They set them up in a star pattern and then the three of them chanted a spell.
Hear these words
Hear my cry
Spirit from the other side
Come to me
I summon thee
Cross now the great divide
A woman appeared in the middle of the candles, she had a hopeful expression on her face. Cordelia recognized her from pictures in her home.
"Xander, that's my mother!"
"Yes, I am. I'm Pamela Halliwell and I'm your mother, Cordelia." The woman stepped out of the circle and opened her arms, clearly hopeful of a hug. Cordelia shakily stepped forward and then for the first time since she was three years old, felt her mother's arms around her.
"I've missed you." Cordelia whispered.
"I've missed you too."
After a little while, they pulled apart and Pamela turned to Xander.
"I know who you are too, Alexander Harris. You're the boy who was my little girl's Knight when you were children. You're the boy who challenges her and makes her happy. And for the record, Charles Chase isn't the only one who can do an evil eye. As long as you continue to make my daughter happy, you won't ever know what my evil eye is like. Understand me?"
"Yes, ma'am."
"You're taking this rather well. It's not everyday you meet a ghost." Phoebe said.
"At least she's not trying to kill us, the last ones were." Xander answered.
"I should've known you'd run into ghosts at some point." Prue said.
"I was wondering, why didn't you tell Daddy about your family?" Cordelia asked her mother.
"Because my mother and I weren't speaking. She was angry with my choice to bind my powers and later yours. Our Magic is a gift and she felt I was betraying our heritage. But I loved your father and I wanted to be with him. And he was never going to be able to understand or accept Magic. It's just too far outside his frame of reference. I don't regret my choice. I do regret being at odds with my mother. And Patty and I were separated because of it. All we had was letters. But despite that, I was happy. Charles is a good man and he gave me you. I am very proud of you, Cordelia. You've taken up the battle against evil. You could have turned away, but you refused to."
Unfortunately, Pamela couldn't stay long as the spell was wearing off. Once she had departed Cordelia turned to the girls.
"Thank you." Was all she could say. It was enough.
