It was a living nightmare that had just become a reality for the hybrid sitting in the driver's seat. While the others slept in the back seats during the long drive to their next stop. Snow couldn't stop overthinking about the fact that he was returning to his old home town after so long being away from it.
Since this revelation came to light during the drive about the place they were heading being Snow's old hometown. Balthazar and Dex had been suspiciously quiet. And Loona was wasting her time trying to get answers to a riddle not even her husband knew the answers to. The others? Well, they just kept well away from the bomb that had just been dropped on the married couple.
While he is seen steering the moving vehicle past a road sign. He saw that it read:
'Welcome to New Haven.'
Snow's heart began to restrict tightly in his chest at the memories that had been unlocked now flooding him like a burst dam. While no one was looking and, if you looked closely at Snow's stoic face. You can see a single stray tear leave the hybrid's right eye.
New Haven
Once Snow had overseen everyone getting their equipment and belongings out of the car and into the house that they had found to stay in for the night and, making sure no one was watching him. Snow made his exit into the streets and began walking down the sidewalk.
His destination? Wherever his feet took him…. That's where.
With Snow
Hood up and his mouth and nose are covered by a mask to avoid being detected. Snow walked the street as the cold rain poured down upon everything within the town and the lone person walking wherever he felt he could go.
Snow knew he should have told Loona and the others where he was going. But, did he need them worrying over him? Even when there was much worse waiting for them down the road. If you could read a person's eyes. What would you find within them?
If people looked at Snow's. Behind the funny, caring and brave hybrid, he was to his wife, his kids, and his best friends. You would find Snow's one weakness that no one could see but himself. The walls he built to protect his family and friends were too high for them to see what he was hiding.
Snow was in pain.
Behind the smile. Snow was crying. Behind the laughter. Snow was screaming and hurting himself to the point of his mind going blank and resorting to restarting to factory setting to keep the facade up with his family.
The memories he had been granted access to had seen to it that Snow's walls were starting to crumble like sand under the waves of the ocean. His weakness was starting to show. And, it scared him that his family and friends would see him differently. And, that his wife would see him differently from the hybrid she married.
With earpieces in his ears. And, with Take What You Want now playing in his ears. Snow knew he was thinking stupidly. But, no matter how much he knocked it back. He could still feel his heart restrict and his body went cold with dread when the memories had resurfaced.
As Snow continues walking along his path. He is seen to be passing by places he recognised now with his unlocked memories.
On this day. He would remember the memories he had long since buried upon his descension to Hell.
Snow's Destination
He continued to walk with his music blaring and trying to keep himself strong mentally. Snow couldn't think clearly with his music on while the tears threatened to show from his golden eyes. He was doing his best to keep his heart from shattering at what he would find upon his journey of self-discovery to find the real Eric Snow. AKA, the REAL Lazarus Snow.
Once he neared a block of houses in a street and looked around. Snow's eyes clapped upon the one abandoned home among the serene and beautifully pristine houses around it. Mentally, he braced himself for what he would find within the once comfortable-looking home.
Abandoned House
As Snow entered through the front gate and into the overgrown and weed-filled garden. He walked through the front door of his old home. This was where he began to prepare for the worst upon entering the home.
"What do you want me to find here?"
Snow asks himself upon standing in the front hallway of the decrepit building. Deciding he needed to explore more. And, upon going over to the living area. Snow sees some photos barely hanging onto the hooks on the wall upon entering the room. Once he takes down a picture from above the fireplace. He speaks.
"Mom and Dad with that bastard Zerachiel in the background. These were simpler times."
Once he says this, however. Snow soon starts to swear he's hallucinating when he sees a young angel boy running around the home. All the while the older boy is seen by Snow to be outside with Snow's step-father while Zerachiel is firing a gun with dummy bullets in.
Snow remembered it was for Zerachiel's training to get into the Junior Angel Marines. Since he was at the age of eighteen. Zerachiel could join up with his friends from Angel High in serving God in the eradication of Hell.
"Zack was obsessed with pleasing his real father. He was so obsessed that he once used me for target practice as punishment for being insolent towards authority."
A bitter sigh escapes Snow's lips. As he walked over to the fireplace. He begins to say with a small smile on his face. A smile that was threatening to spill something he was glad that happened.
"This old fireplace. I'm surprised it's still standing after I shot that abusive Bleep in the head with his pistol. And, he went crashing into it."
This stopped Snow dead as he looked at the spot where his abusive stepfather was shot by himself and Zerachiel had tried to assault him for doing so.
"Served him right Zack. Whether you liked it or not big brother. The bastard deserved to die for the years of abuse he dished out to Mom and me."
A small smile. That was all Snow could manage at the memory before turning away and focusing on something different. That something different was the dining area with the broken table.
"My graduation from the Junior Marines. Zack tried to bully me in front of my girlfriend, Azrael and my friends. Well, he tried. Because when he went too far. I drove him through the dining table with my hand around his throat. He never bullied me since. But, deep down, I knew he held some resentment towards me for actually standing up for myself."
So many memories. More bad than good in Snow's eyes. They were all there within the walls of his old home from centuries ago when he had no idea of his demon side.
Upstairs
A broken bannister is what greets Snow and causes his heart to break at what it signifies. This was where Zerachiel had, supposedly, killed Snow's real dad, Kai, while the demon was trying to protect Cassiel and Snow, who was seen knocked out on the floor of his parent's bedroom during his father and stepbrother's scuffle. This led to the faked death of Kai. And, Snow is exiled to earth to be reborn as a newborn child named Eric to his now-dead human parents, Melissa and Thomas Snow. The latter of which had given him the name he was known for on earth and in Hell to his family. Eric Snow.
Outside
Once the hybrid is outside of his old and decaying home after pouring kerosene on the inside and the outside of the home. And, once he had made sure it was fully coated in the flammable liquid. Snow pulls out a set of matches from his jeans pocket. Once the match is lit. Fresh tears began to fall from the hybrid's unflinching face.
As he holds the match in front of his tear-soaked eyes. Snow can mentally hear a century's worth of memories coming back to him from the lit match held between his index and middle fingertips.
"My past… is not who I am today. Goodbye… and Bleep You Zerachiel."
With that said. Snow throws the match at the house and, the moment the lit match lands inside the kerosene-soaked house. The old house went up in flames without trouble thanks to the lit match.
For Snow to truly find peace. He must end Raphael. Once and for all.
With Dex and Octavia
Gentle breathing. The owl that the team had completed the rescue mission for is seen fast asleep in a bed by herself. With only a t-shirt covering her naked body. Octavia is seen gripping a pillow for comfort instead of the man she had fallen she loved.
Said man, Dexter, is seen standing out front with his fully automatic rifle in front of him. He was mainly patrolling the house that everyone was staying inside of. He was only doing the patrol because he had drawn the short straw in terms of making sure no one tried to kill anybody during the early hours of the morning.
That, and Loona had asked Dex to patrol the outside of the house in case Snow decided to turn up from, wherever the hell he had vanished to.
Octavia did have her objections to her sister ordering around her boyfriend. But, with a kiss and a long look into the female's eyes. Dex had told the owl all she needed to know. Without using words. Dex had said that he would make time for each other once the hybrid had returned from his wanderings.
Another reason Dex took the first patrol was due to something playing on his mind. He was orphaned by his angel parents. Meaning, he had no concept of romance, whatsoever. Whenever Octavia would cuddle with him. The male would seize up and look lost on what to do next without hurting Octavia's feelings. Whenever Octavia wanted to hold his hand. He would pull away and become preoccupied with something else. Completely blanking the problem just to focus on inventing something for the team to use in future missions.
Don't get the guy wrong. He did pay attention to his male teammates and their spouses to see how they behaved around each other. He noted how Loona would become a different person whenever Commander Lazarus was absent. compared to when the two were in the same room as each other. Then the two would just insult each other, kiss, and just laugh with each other using banter that only they were familiar with. Including the male yanking on his wife's tail. Causing the female to give chase to her husband. The two would eventually laugh it off and go back to normal after they had a play fight to blow off steam.
But. When it came to Octavia. Dex was stumped at what to do. Yes, they kissed, they hugged and they slept together fully clothed some nights. The usual couple stuff. But, of course, Dex noticed he did nothing like what the other couples did in the team.
So. How does Dex, the team's inventor and mechanic, show Octavia he cares for her too? Without it feeling forced or rushed?
The answer? It came walking up the pathway to the abandoned house the team was staying in. When Snow paused upon spotting Dex sat in deep thought on the front step. He decided that he would pick Dex's brain later about what was troubling the mechanic into sitting on a step like a kicked puppy.
With Octavia
The owl is seen reading a book that Dex had in his rucksack while Dex was patrolling outside. Though the subject of machines seemed a fascinating read to the owl. She was more interested in learning what was wrong with Dex every time she tried to show him affection.
She too had also learned from Loona that, Dex would indeed freeze up, act distant, and he would go stiff with panic whenever she was close to him. Yes, she was his girlfriend after she had returned the favour and helped save him from Eden along with the other men. But, ever since Paradise City. And, since those douchebag pure souls gave him a hard time. Dex seemed to have lost interest in interacting with Octavia.
She had been reassured countless of times by the fallen angel she loved, but. She just wanted to know what was ticking away in that calculating mind of his whenever she was around Dex.
Closing the book with a huff and, placing the reading material down on the coffee table in front of her and beginning to rub the nubs of her claws against her forehead in trying to unravel Dex and get him to open up to the Goetia demon about what was troubling the mechanic.
Octavia's thoughts are interrupted by a coffee mug placed in front of her. Once a hand was placed onto her shoulder. And, seeing this to be Dex. and, she placed her head onto his hand for comfort. Seeing something was troubling his lover. Dex decided to entertain the owl and ask.
"Something troubling you babe?"
The sudden appearance of the enigma that was Octavia's boyfriend sitting in front of her at the kitchen table in the dining room caused the owl to smile pleasantly at the male. Now that Dex is sat in said seat. The male continues to ask.
"Millie and Loona say you've been worried about me. Is this true Tavia?"
Octavia nods without hesitation. Not missing a beat to her actions. Octavia sees this as her chance to pick Dex's brain about what she wants to know.
"It's true."
Seeing Dex wanting the owl to continue. Octavia continues with more confidence knowing that she could finally speak to the one she loved.
"Ever since we escaped Raphael. And, since the incident with those Bleepingpure souls in Paradise City. You've been acting more distant than you usually do. Am I that bad of a girlfriend that you can't confide in me anymore?"
Dex sighs uneasily. He knew it would eventually come to him needing to explain his distant behaviour. So with Octavia wanting answers. The owl continues.
"What's going on Dex?"
Dex could only look at Octavia with a sad smile before taking her clawed left hand and asking a question he needed to ask.
"Am I really of use to this team? I mean, I've done more harm than good. And, you had to risk your own life just to save my dumbass from my own brainwashed teammates."
This caught Octavia by surprise. As she looked at Dex. And, he saw his brown eyes water up a little from the tears threatening to spill over. Her heart almost broke into a thousand pieces. How could someone so brave and loving, feel so useless?
This thought alone made her sick to her stomach. She had remembered something that was bugging Dex when he was recovering in his bed. He had been the one that needed saving. And, in Dex's eyes. He felt he was too weak and stupid to save himself from getting captured. With something new in her heart to tell Dex. Octavia spoke.
"Dexter… look at me."
Dex looked up. Whenever Octavia used her boyfriend's full name. This meant the owl was going to start being serious with the male she called her lover. Gently cupping Dex's chin within her hand and staring into his chocolate-brown eyes. Octavia could have sworn she needed a GPS to find her way out. So, when Octavia spoke, she meant every word.
"You're not useless Dexter…"
A small tear-soaked smile appeared on Dex's face at the revelation before the female continued. She was also rubbing the back of her head with a blush plastered on her face when she realised she'd fallen hard for the tech expert.
"… Besides. We've saved each other now. So, Ignore those asshats. Heroes are overrated anyway. And you, Dexter Goldsborough, are not overrated. You are special to me. And, you are a valuable member of this team."
With a nod. Dexter begins to smile lowly at his girlfriend giving him a pep-talk. Not lowly enough, however. Because when Octavia spotted the smile on the male's face. She gently punches the male in the arm and offers her laughter to cheer up the moody male.
"Besides. I'd rather have a boyfriend that has my back. Then a boyfriend who is a douchebag hero any day of the week."
This had the couple laughing now before sharing a kiss and pulling apart. Even if they had only dated for three days. Octavia had shown Dex more affection than any woman ever could.
Later (With Snow)
Ringing of Snow's Cellphone
"Hello? Lazarus?"
Sigh
"Hey, Dad. Listen. My memories have come back fully now. And… there is something I need clearing up from you."
On the other end of the phone. Snow can hear his dad moving into the living room of Snow and Loona's home. Soon, with the sound of his dad taking a seat. He hears Kai say.
"I've just gone and put Evie to bed for the night. What did you want to ask me Snowball?"
This was it. With a squeeze of reassurance on his free hand from Loona beside him. Snow asks with a heavy sigh leaving his mouth.
"How did you survive?"
Pause
"What do you mean, Snow?"
This caused Snow to quickly explain.
"What I mean is, Dad. I saw you die at my, now-dead brother's hands. How did you come back when everyone thought you'd died."
Silence
"Son…"
"I'm serious Dad. I could hear my mom crying every night she stayed with Loona and me before you came back and saved Austin from Samael. I had no idea how to comfort her."
There is more silence. The silence continues until Kai, finally, reveals how he survived.
"Your aunt and uncle, Ramiel and Metatron, were on duty with the holy guard when they got a call that a demon had infiltrated Heaven. When they got there. They saw me lying in a pool of blood. Zack had fled. And, Cassiel had teleported you to Earth after wiping your memories. And, I was breathing shallowly. If it wasn't for them saving me. I wouldn't be alive today.".
A smash can be heard from Kai's end of the phone. Followed by a sobbing Snow crying down the phone at the revelation his father had just dropped on him. Not even Loona could stop the angered and crying male shouting down the phone at his dad.
"For twenty-eight years. Twenty-eight Bleeping years I thought you were dead! I thought I'd never see you again. And, all of a sudden, you save my son from a mute angel! Do you know how that made me feel Dad? I went through life thinking mom didn't want me. And, I went through life thinking my dad WAS dead!"
This killed Kai to hear his little boy reveal what he truly felt about the situation he'd been through. But, a little bit of light shone through when Snow continued.
"Now you're alive. I can finally feel normal again. I'm sorry Dad. I just needed to vent."
"It's okay Snowball. I completely understand what you needed to get off your chest."
Smiling lowly. Snow passes the phone over to his wife while he removes himself from the bedroom. He didn't care about his image as he walked downstairs. and, in front of everyone. Snow broke down crying and screaming at what he had wanted to tell his dad.
Back With Loona
"Loo… is Snow going to be OK?"
"It was just as much a shock to him as it was to you, Kai. He is downstairs right now, and…". Loona heard crashing from the crying and screaming Snow downstairs before continuing."Let's just say that. When all of his memories came back to him. His heart shattered at having to ask how you came back."
On the other end of the phone. Loona hears Kai sigh and hold back more tears when he asks.
"I'd been meaning to explain myself for a while Loo Loo. But, every time I saw him with the grandkids… I just couldn't do it. I chickened out."
Loona chuckles lightly. And, in return, she feels she'd succeeded in making her father-in-law laugh too when she continues to say.
"Kai. Eric cares about his family a lot. He was like a kid at Hellmas when he saw you again at Blackgate infirmary. This means a helluva lot more to him now you're back. I'd never him as happy."
Laughter
"I know, Loona. Thanks for looking after my boy when Cass and I couldn't do so. You're a keeper."
"Of course Kai."
"Just… promise me you won't let him do anything stupid. I won't be able to live with myself if something happened to my little boy."
"I won't, Kai. I'll keep him safe. Just like has done for me."
Once Loona and Kai shared their goodbyes. And, now that everything was cleared up. Loona now had the task of calming down her husband before he did something stupid.
