This is staying DannyTim and the new story, Sweet Dreams, will be the trio. That way everyone is mostly happy?
So, I oopsed in For Sale by having Dick be Nightwing since apparently, he got the name from Kryptonian legends or something? And with no contact with Krypton in that story, he wouldn't know that name. So, what's another name for Dick to have taken when he stopped being Robin? I'll have to go back and edit once I have one.
For Danny's mask, I was thinking something like Kakashi in Naruto wears but instead of sloping down from his nose on either side it goes more straight across. So less of his cheeks are visible.
Chapter 6
Kon had his chin on Tim's bony shoulder, his best friend leaning back against him as he worked. Once they'd gotten past Robin's wariness over keeping his id secret by proving they wouldn't try and trick him into giving anything away, he'd become very affectionate in their Young Justice days, Kon now knew it was because of the utter lack of affection and touch that he'd had as a kid and even once he joined the bats. Kon'd had his own issues with touch since all he'd known at first had been the clinical touch of scientists. Once free of the labs, he'd become a little too free with his affection and looking back, he regretted many of those nights. Bart was in a similar boat having grown up in a virtual reality, though Kon was pretty sure he hadn't gone the same route that Kon had used, he had just soaked up every touch the team gave. Really, the only well-adjusted one had been Cass. And then she'd gone and kissed Tim after he died… yeah, they were all a mess.
"Sticking with the red?" Danny asked. He was lying beside them, lounging as he watched Tim as well.
If he hadn't been told he was ex-League, Kon never would have guessed. Of the three of them, he acted the most like a normal teenager, and Kon had never even seen his whole face. Whoever had taken him in, they must have been great parents to help him adjust so well.
"Hmm," Tim hummed in answer, lost in his work, and Kon snickered, sharing a grin with Danny. "I've always worn red," he murmured absently.
"Yeah, the Robin suit has a lot of red, it's basically a walking traffic light even if Tim did darken the shades a bit."
"Changed it after you and Bart were gone, all red and black."
Kon flinched slightly at that, hugging him tighter. He hadn't realised, though he'd seen a picture of Tim in that Robin suit, the change made sense now. "So black and red, what about the yellow?" he asked.
"No, changing that." Tim blinked and looked at them in confusion, making Kon laugh.
"We really lost you there for a bit," he teased.
"At least he was responsive, you should see one of my friends on a roll, he wouldn't snap out of it for an earthquake," Danny offered, but he was grinning too, and Tim huffed at them.
"It looks more gold than yellow…so I think silver," Tim mused. He held the design up and they both looked at it.
"I like it," Danny offered. "Different to the Red Robin suit but with some similarities to that and Robin."
"Links to your previous id's while also being something new," Kon agreed. "Got a name?"
"I think so," Tim admitted but didn't tell them. "You're sure your contact can do this?"
"Positive, you should probably list material preferences. Only pieces they can't do are the gauntlet computer and electronics in the mask."
Tim nodded. "I can transfer the computer from the current gauntlet easily enough. Now, how about Shade's suit?"
Danny blinked, seeming surprised. "Seriously?"
"We won't always have one of us on comms and the other on the street."
,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,
Danny considered it and then nodded. "Okay," he agreed. He hadn't had any choice in Phantom's look since it was literally what he'd died in and Sam had made the symbol for the front. Designing his own look, even if he only used it for this trip, could be fun. "Nothing that looks anything like League gear," that was the main thing.
Tim nodded, opening a new design. "With a name like Shade, darker colours?"
"Black is obvious, shades of grey, maybe some white? If you guys want to match, you can use silver too," Kon offered.
"Dark green or blue as well," Danny added. "So, black pants, gloves, and boots."
"Black for the mask too, full face or keep to the lower half only?"
A full face mask? "Half," he decided.
"You can always have a hood, pull it up when you want more anonymity," Kon suggested.
"Maybe." That sounded a bit close to the League uniform but maybe if the style was very different…
Three hours later they were done and Danny headed out to send it off.
,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,
"So…"
Tim glanced at Kon, frowning slightly. "What?"
"Have you kissed yet?" he asked teasingly and then blanched. "Tim I…"
Tim shook his head, leaning back into his best friend again, relaxing when an arm wrapped around him, feeling the gentle tingle of TTK wrapping around him protectively. "I don't remember what he did to me, and Danny stopped him. I'm not…I'm not broken."
"I know," Kon whispered, grip tightening briefly. "The offer to fry him is not a limited time one though."
Tim chuckled, not willing to admit how tempting it was. He was a monster for what he'd done but if Tim started down that path, it would be far too easy to slip down it.
"We did kiss," he admitted softly. "We were being watched by assassins and I was disguised as a girl so a kiss seemed the easiest way to throw them off. I, uh, I liked it Kon."
"So? Aren't you the one that told me that stuff doesn't matter?"
"It doesn't," Tim leant more heavily against him, feeling exhaustion seeping in. "But what do I really know about him? He's ex-League but…I can't stop the part of my brain that keeps expecting him to still be one of them."
"I see the way he looks at you Tim," Kon whispered. "There's no betrayal in those looks, there's definitely attraction though. He's as mad as I am over what happened to you, that guy's lucky he only broke his nose."
Tim groaned, twisting to hide his red face against Kon's chest, feeling him pet his hair. "I have to focus on getting Bruce back, I have to."
"Then after, think about it," Kon offered, and he nodded.
,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,
Danny called Wulf for a portal and he took the bundle of papers and material from him, whisking it off to the Infinite Realms. It was tempting to follow him through even for a minute or to just to breath in the Realms but portals could be unpredictable.
He turned to head back and then froze, scanning the rooftops. There! He went invisible and intangible, floating up behind the trio. Huh, a bit more…individualistic then was normally allowed which meant they were elite. One female and two males, a mix of skills by the look of them, and they did not look happy about Kon's presence, too bad. Danny smirked, hoping at least one was scared of ghosts because it was time to practice his haunting.
,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,
Ra's studied the screens of surveillance. He was not at all happy. Someone was killing his assassins and they could not discover who was behind it. That was why he wanted the Detective. Young Timothy had the right skill set to work it out and stop the attacks and he had the resources the boy needed for his search. It was obvious Bruce was gone, that actor who had taken his place was nothing like the real man. But whatever the story, Timothy did not agree and that made him curious.
He'd led his teams a merry chase but they had him now, Paris. Unfortunately, the Kryptonian clone was with him at the moment so the team had to remain at a much greater distance. They would not approach so long as he remained as they had nothing with them that could subdue him.
,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,
Lucius studied the reports, frowning. He understood why they were doing it, to ensure no one made the link…but it seemed the plan had gone wrong and he would need to enact the contingency Bruce had set up. Which would be a lot easier if said contingency hadn't up and vanished months ago. He'd withdrawn from school and no one knew where Tim Drake-Wayne was. Had Bruce even told the boy of the contingencies concerning him?
He knew the man was not the real Bruce but he was sure happy to spend the Wayne money, at the rate he was going…Lucius sighed, he was going to have act.
He stood and left his office.
"The Wayne Enterprises Board meeting begins at eight am, Mister Fox," his secretary called. "You also have an interview with-"
"Cancel it. Cancel the board meeting too. I need you to find me Tim Wayne," he instructed as he left. It seemed the future of the company rested on the shoulders of a teenager, wonderful. Hopefully he'd go for an easier to deal with cover personality than Brucie.
,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,
Tim led Kon beneath the city to another of Lex's labs that he'd tracked. He wasn't sure why Kon was looking for the man but he wouldn't ask, Kon would tell him if he wanted to. He figured dying changed things, was it really surprising he wanted to know more about the people he came from? Lex hadn't tried to mind control him for a while at least, he'd been lying pretty low actually since Kon's death. It seemed…he'd been grieving for real which Tim had expected. As long as Kon was careful, he had no problem with him reaching out to Lex. And Tim knew what he was doing, they could serve as backup for each other, though Kon would have an easier time knowing he needed help than vice versa. And Danny seemed to like Kon so he'd probably agree to help too.
There wasn't really anything left in the lab, had Luthor cleaned them out after realising Tim had raided the other one? Or had Tim just beaten him to it and he'd planned to empty them all along?
,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,
Danny kept his distance even as the assassins kept as close a watch as possible on Tim with Kon there. He'd sent Tim a message to warn him so the two were sticking together. Kon had even freaked them into thinking his senses were better than they thought by looking straight at where they were hidden and glaring. It had been funny for everyone but the three assassins.
It was frustrating but it was probably good for Tim to spend some time with Kon without him around, he wasn't going to go digging for their secrets or anything. He liked to think Tim and him were friends but he wasn't sure how Tim saw them, if they were just partners or friends or what. He'd like more than that, for a night or longer, but Tim's reaction to the kiss pretty much told him it wouldn't happen and even if he'd reacted well…Danny would never suggest anything now, not after what Tim had been through. It would likely take Tim months to be able to even contemplate dating someone, maybe even longer, especially when it came to anything like kissing.
His being interested in Tim didn't matter, he was there to do a job, to keep Tim safe from the League while he searched for Batman. That was all. If they were friends then that would be great and maybe they could keep in some kind of contact afterwards.
,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,
Clark looked up, surprised to hear Kon's arrival announced by the system. The younger Kryptonian stormed into the meeting room, looking between him and Dick and then Clark found his head rocked back. He touched his chin and realised Kon had hit him, hard.
"Superboy!" Dick yelled.
"The only reason I didn't hit you is Tim would never forgive me if I killed your pathetic ass," Kon snarled, eyes glowing slightly red but he was keeping the vision under control.
The room was dead silent at his actions and words.
"Kon-El?" Diana called gently.
"Unlike the rest of you idiots, I listened to Tim and looked over his evidence. Guess what, like ninety-nine-point-nine percent of the time…he's right! The evidence that Batman is alive and being tossed through time is very obvious, if you bother to look. But because you're too worried about the brat who's tried to murder Red multiple times you just brushed him off so he…he nearly…"
Clark stood in alarm as he realised Kon was shaking…and those were tears he was fighting to hold back. But…oh no… "Lois was right, the footage?" he asked quietly, and Kon jerked a nod. Clark collapsed back in his chair, feeling sick. Tim had been drugged and attacked, sexually assaulted, and it was that even if it hadn't gone as far as his attacker had obviously intended.
"Footage…" Dick trailed off, paling beneath the cowl. So he'd seen it too, had Tim sent it to him?
"What footage?" Barry asked, looking between them, but Clark shook his head.
"That's for him to show or not, it's not Justice League business." He then looked at Kon. "Red?"
"Well, he had Robin ripped from him without warning, so he took the Red Robin suit. But it doesn't feel right so he's just been using Red for the colour of the outfit. Helped him design something new for himself but he still hasn't decided on a new name. Oh…and he's also being hunted across Europe by the League of Assassins but has managed to dodge them, all without any help from you. All because Dick Grayson said he was grieving and maybe a little mentally off. You took one man's word and abandoned a teenager to face the world's deadliest assassins. If Tim tells you all to go jump, I'm siding with him." With that Kon turned and left as swiftly as he'd arrived.
Clark looked to Dick, finding he'd buried his face in his hands. The room exploded with sound as everyone had an opinion on Kon's actions…and Dick's.
,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,
Dick left the Zeta and moved to the computer, collapsing on the chair as he shoved his cowl off. Kon's appearance had been a surprise, Dick had tried to contact Tim when the two returned but hadn't been able to find him. But of course, Kon had found Tim. Those two had been joined at the hip as soon as they got over their differing methods, with Bart joining them. Cassie was close to them all but she'd always seemed at a slight distance to Tim compared to the two boys. It made sense, Tim was used to being around other guys more than girls.
He stared at the computer, unable to help himself from bringing up the footage, watching the assault, fighting to not throw up as he realised it was Tim being laid on that bed, a man on top of him, kissing him, starting to strip him…if he hadn't been interrupted…
Of course, that was when Zatanna sent a follow up message, she'd been the estate and found evidence of all kinds of magic…a police report… Dick grabbed the bin and threw up. Tim…Tim could have been…
"Master Richard?" Alfred called in alarm, and Dick looked up at him, tears on his face.
"It's my fault."
"What is?" Alfred took the bin to clean later.
Dick just pointed at the footage and her report. "It was Tim…he was…he was attacked while undercover. He's over there alone because I wouldn't listen."
"Master Richard-"
"No Alfred, Kon found him, he went over his evidence…Bruce is alive. And Tim's being hunted by Ra's."
,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,
Damian smirked as he listened to them, it seemed Grandfather was doing him the favour of removing Drake from the equation. And he had been weak enough to be attacked as well, just proving he had never been good enough. Though…Father was alive? They had to get Drake's evidence before he could use it to integrate himself into Father's good graces. Perhaps he should contact Grandfather and ask him to forward the evidence once he killed Drake?
,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,
Tim stared in horror at Zatanna's information, glad that he had given her a way to contact him. She would need to see him in person at some point to discover just how the magic had affected him, but she was relatively sure the spell work would allow him to carry a child…if it had taken. And of course, with his luck, that wasn't the end of it. There was only one way to fix his never-ending craving for touch…
"Tim?"
He nearly jumped at Danny's voice, looking over to see blue eyes watching him in concern. He managed a nod, closing the message. "Did it arrive?" he asked, pushing aside the information. He'd been looking forward to this and he wasn't going to let that spoil it.
Danny nodded and Tim was sure he was grinning under his mask. He placed two parcels down on the bed, one in front of himself and the other closer to Tim. "You first," he encouraged.
Tim picked it up and carefully opened it. He pulled out the pieces of his new suit, staring at it. It looked exactly how he had designed it and the materials…he could feel how high quality it all was. It was red but a much darker shade of red than his Robin suit had been after Kon's death and it was styled in separate pants and tunic like the Red Robin one. It had heavier armour than the Robin suit as well, not that you could tell just looking at it. The gloves, boots, and belt were all black. But he'd also kept the cross body belts the Red Robin suit had, more 'pockets' always came in handy, they black and silver now though. The boots were a bit heavier as well, more protective. His cape was black on the outside and red on the inside, hooded because he was going back to a domino rather than the cowl. Though the domino was larger than his old ones, covering more of his face. All of the fastenings were very well hidden, he knew where they should be and even he had trouble finding them.
"Well?" Danny asked, and Tim grinned at him.
"It's incredible." He grabbed the Red Robin suit and went to work transferring the electronics, hearing Danny chuckle, ducking his head slightly in embarrassment at showing so much enthusiasm.
Tim looked up and waved at Danny's package. "Go on, let's see Shade's look."
Danny nodded and opened the package, bringing out the piles of material. The black boots were a similar design to Tim's new ones though his gloves lacked the length most chose, stopping just past his wrists rather than going almost to the elbow. He had black BDU cargo pants rather than the basically skin-tight looking ones Tim did. They were fitted and armoured but still made to let him move. He had a dark blue turtleneck style top and the mask was built in, he just had to pull it up, that made it look different to his everyday mask. Over that was a black hooded jacket, also armoured, with some lighter grey trim. His silvery grey belt had a few pouches on it for supplies too. At first glance the outfit could almost be taken for street wear and that seemed to suit Danny. And despite the hood and half mask, it looked nothing like a League uniform, something that was obviously very important to Danny given his past.
"We ready to check out in the morning? And how do we hide this stuff in the luggage? It won't all fit in that bag of yours," Danny pointed out, and he was right.
Tim got up and went into the bathroom to change into the new suit, to check the fit. It was a lot more comfortable than the Red Robin suit, didn't pull, chafe, or feel too loose anywhere. And despite the extra armour, it was lighter. He went back out in his normal clothing and went back to work transferring over the electronic elements. "Well, mine will fit, I'll toss the Red Robin suit once I'm finished with it. A lot of yours can pass as regular clothing, especially when we're travelling by bike. Do you want me to work on some electronics in yours? Getting a computer will be tricky but it's doable." He kept working will letting Danny consider it.
Some people found the idea of their clothing shocking people if they tried to get it off weird but it was all part of protecting their identities. Once, it had only been dominos and cowls that were rigged for that, but these days the whole uniform was as insurance against things like assault when captured. Tim hadn't gotten around to upgrading the system in the Red suit but he had the equipment so he was making sure the new suit was fully protected.
"Got a name yet?"
"Yep," he smirked, and Danny laughed.
,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,
Danny woke but remained still, not sure why he was awake. And then he heard it, a soft whimper. He sat up and looked at where Tim was lying on his side beside him. He was trembling slightly, whimpering in his sleep, and Danny frowned. "Tim? Come on, wake up," he called but didn't touch him.
If it was a nightmare then Tim could lash out and Tim had been a bit withdrawn the last two days, like he was trying to force himself to be normal. Was he pushing too much for that too quickly?
"Tim?" he called louder, and Tim moaned, tossing in his sleep, ending up on his back. Rapid eye movement suggested he was dreaming, breathing speeding up, sweat beading along his hairline. "Tim, wake up!" he risked reaching out to tap his cheek, ducking back as Tim's eyes snapped open, fist lashing out. "Easy, it's just me, it's Danny."
"D'nny?" Tim blinked dazedly at him and then pushed himself into a sitting position, wincing slightly.
"Yeah, you okay? You were whimpering in your sleep, shaking. Nightmare?" he asked gently.
Tim shook his head, now hugging himself, curling inward.
"Are you sick Tim?"
"Hot," he mumbled, and Danny carefully reached out to rest the back of his hand against his forehead.
"Fever," Danny murmured. "I'll get you some water and a cool cloth. Maybe take a layer off?" Tim had fallen asleep with a jumper on, which should have been a hint he wasn't feeling well since it had been a nice summer evening in Rouen.
Danny got the water and cloth to find Tim had stripped off his upper body totally. Okay then…his fever wasn't that high. He had to help Tim hold the glass to drink the water and then gently wiped him down with the cloth, Tim shivering slightly, but…oh.
He touched Tim's shoulder and he sighed, leaning into his touch. So maybe not an illness. "Tim, you need to try and talk to me."
Tim's eyes were miserable when he looked at him. "Zatanna…she checked his magic things…" he shivered, and Danny held his arm out in offering. Tim wavered but then slowly sank into his side, trembling. "There's only one cure for this need for touch."
"Okay, but that's good, isn't it? You can get passed this."
Tim shook his head. "It's sex," he mumbled, and Danny swore softly.
It was sick and made sense. Which meant the Russian girl must have gotten away before the creep got that far with her. Even if Tim had a partner, after what he'd been through… "She can't find another way?" he asked, and Tim shook his head. "Is it worse now because you've been trying to ignore it?" he pressed, and Tim stared down at the bed. "Tim…" he sighed, gently shifting them so that Tim was held against him fully, feeling him tense before gradually going limp.
"You don't have to," Tim mumbled.
"I'm not letting you torture yourself into getting sick. I don't mind Tim, I'm used to puppy piling with friends," he assured him, not that they'd done that in well over a year. He knew it was his fault, pulling away to keep them safer. He moved a hand to stroke Tim's hair. "Is there someone you want to call to help you? Kon? Or someone else?"
Tim shook his head. "Only have an ex, we…we never went that far. I've never. Can't ask that of Kon, best friends…brothers."
"Okay, yeah, that would make it weird."
That at least got a snort of amusement from Tim, an overly warm cheek rubbing against his shoulder but he got the feeling Tim didn't realise he was doing it.
"You could…pay for it," he grimaced at the idea, but it was Tim's choice, and he shuddered, shaking his head furiously. "Okay, no paying." He thought things over. "Alright, let's see if we can get you back to the level you were at before. We were handling that and then when your head's clearer you can think over options. How's that sound?""
Tim eventually nodded. "Sorry."
"Don't be, none of this is your fault," Danny assured him, and then he flung them off the bed, going intangible as a loud sound filled the room, Tim jerking in his arms. "Keep your head down!"
TBC…
Tim trying to just ignore a magically/drug induced issue and of course it backfired.
I hate trying to describe clothes and did lots of looking online trying to work out how to describe the new outfits. Danny didn't want anything to remind him of the hazmat suit. Tim's has elements he liked from previous suits.
