Chapter 37

When we're back at Undella Town, we are bidding farewell to Dawn, and Luke. They are heading back for the Wallace Cup as Dawn wants to compete in it.

"Sorry that we can't help you stop Team Plasma, but you can do it for sure." Luke says.

"You bet. Thank you for everything." Hilda says as we all bid farewell. But at the same time, Cameron rushes and yells, "Ah! They left without me!"

"Cameron?" We are surprised.

"I can't believe it's you guys! Who are you again?" We all anime fall as we state our names as well. Cilan asks, "You're planning to the Hoenn Region, too?"

"Can't put anything past you, can I? After all, the Unova League is held at Hoenn's Ever Grande City!"

"Hoenn? Why would the Unova League be held in the Hoenn Region?" Iris asks.

"Don't ask me, I don't make the rules, I just follow them." Cameron says.

"The thing is, I'm also training in the Unova League too. But usually, they happen in Vetress City." I say.

"Really? Why didn't you say so in the first place? Man, I was almost on my way to Hoenn... So if you're entering the Unova League, then you must have all 7 badges."

"I have 7 badges, but we need 8 to enter the League." I say.

"8? What are you talking about? I get it! You want an extra badge to play it safe!" Cameron says.

"Then what are you planning to do in the final slot?" Hilda asks.

"Duh? The Winner's badge. That's the badge you got from winning the Unova League." Cameron says.

"You do know that Iris here is the Unova Champion, there aren't any badges like that, right?" Hilbert asks.

"Of course not." Iris says.

"Wait, you mean I need to win 8 badges?" Cameron asks.

"That's right. And we're heading to Humilau City for our final badge." I say. "Maybe you can come with us so you can watch our gym battles and we do the same."

"That sounds interesting." Cameron says with a smile.

And on our way, I also get a call from Yancy once more. "... ...? ... ...? ...? ...Can you hear me? Oh! The reception was so bad, wasn't it? Ahaha! I'm so embarrassed for being so loud just now. The weather is bearable today, isn't it? I'd go for a walk if not for my work... But I'm OK for now, because I got to talk to you, Ash. Tee hee!"

"I see." I say. "Oh, sorry! I couldn't help smiling 'cause I'm talking to you, Ash. I wish...it would last forever. ...Oops! I better get back to work! Talk to you soon."

After the call ends, another call has come and its from Hugh this time. "Where are you? Undella Town? Got it! From there, go through the Marine Tube and come straight to Humilau City!"

We go inside the Marine Tube. All this time we've been talking with Cameron about the journeys. Hilbert says, "If I remember, we can actually see Wailord in this Marine Tube."

Reisa says, "Yeah... compared to the one in Oceablu City of the Sevestar Region... I don't know which one is actually better..."

"But come to think about it, the final gym is a Water Gym, right?" Alice asks. "That is the same as the Hoenn Region."

"I know." I say. "Funny that some gyms are actually in order, like how Rock Types are usually the first ones, and how Ice is the seventh and Flying's the sixth."

After we finally arrive at Humilau City, we find Hugh there. "Hey, Hugh!" Hilbert says.

"We'll get the DNA Splicers back for sure! So you should focus on defeating the Gym Leader first!" Hugh says.

But after we get to the gym, we find that the gym leader is not there. We decide to search for him and we find him in the north. "Uihaa! Sup, you must be here to challenge the Pokémon Gym! I'm the Gym Leader, Marlon. Sorry to make you look for me, yo. I was swimmin' with the Pokémon, and it felt real good, so I kept goin' and goin'. I'll be waitin' in the Gym, 'K?"

"Finally, we can have our gym battle now." Cameron says.

"How about you go first?" I ask, and he agrees.

When we watch Cameron's battle, we find that Marlon's Jellicent has Cursed Body which is not going to be good, but Cameron uses Samurott and Ferrothorn to defeat him in the end.

"Congratulations, that was a good battle." I say.

"Sure was, you can now enter the Unova League." Cilan says.

"Thanks, I've gotta get going." Cameron says, and Eve asks, "Don't you want to watch Ash's battle as well?"

"Nah. I want it to be a surprise. Sorry about that, Ash." Cameron says.

"Don't worry." I say as we watch him leave. Marlon says, "So you're next, eh? I'm looking forward to your battle."

Then we head inside the gym as we find the gym guide. "This Gym may feel like a resort, but the Gym Leader's no picnic! In Humilau's Pokémon Gym, you proceed by hopping on the lily pads and sliding across the water's surface. Here's another piece of advice! Water-type Pokémon really don't like Electric- or Grass-type moves! But I'm sure the Gym Leader has planned for that!"

We head to the first trainer, which is Ace Trainer Doyle. "How do you like riding on leaves? If you manage to beat me, I'll teach you something good. You'll see!"

He uses Floatzel and Mantine, so I use Pikachu to defeat them with ease. "I lost? Now I just want to climb aboard a leaf and be swept away somewhere..."

And when I do what he says, I climb on the leaf and now it is moving, also pushing the other pad away. The second trainer is Ace Trainer Melina. "It is said that water will not grow stagnant as long as it keeps flowing... So as long as I keep moving onward..."

She uses an Alomomola, which I remember I haven't captured yet. I use Amoonguss to defeat it in the end. "I won't give up, even if I am defeated! That toughness is the pride of an Ace Trainer!"

The third trainer is Ace Trainer Santino. "Oh! To think that you would deliberately seek me out for a battle! I'm so tickled that I won't hold anything back as a reward!"

He uses a Walrein, so I go with Scrafty, and it uses Focus Blast to defeat it in the end. "What oppressive force... What a Trainer!"

The fourth Ace Trainer is Jeanne. "When I win, and even when the impossible happens and I lose, I analyze every one of my battles to grow stronger. Do you really think you can beat someone like me?"

She uses a Pelipper and a Wailord, so I use Eelektross to defeat them with ease. "I want to ride away on my Pokemon so that I might ponder why I lost..."

The fifth Ace Trainer is Sable, and she says, "The thing about water is that it's always changing... From the piercing strength of a jet, to the crushing power of a wave... That's what I'm about to show you!"

She uses Golduck and Starmie this time, so I go with Bisharp to defeat the gym with ease. "What strength..."

The final Ace Trainer is Enzio. "To be as clear as water... That is the style that I seek!"

He uses two Basculin with different stripes and an Azumarill, so I use Amoonguss to defeat all three Pokemon with ease. "When I lose, I feel as if I might just disappear..."

And we're now facing Marlon. Marlon says, "Sup! Here already, huh? You look strong! Shoots! Let's start!"

It is also a four-on-four battle, and Marlon starts with its Wailord. I decide to go with Amoonguss.

"Let's go with Spore!" I yell. Amoonguss is quick to act, releasing a cloud of spores that surrounds Wailord. The massive Water-type Pokémon seems unfazed by the attempt to induce sleep.

"Water Spout!" Marlon says, and I have Amoonguss dodge the attack and counter with a precise Giga Drain. Wailord struggles but ultimately succumbs to Amoonguss' relentless assault, and I win the first round.

"Ash is doing quite well, though I was surprised that Wailord manages to hang onto the spore attack..." Eve says.

"Considering that Marlon's Pokemon can dive underwater to clean the spores off..." Cilan says.

"Dude... You're really into this, huh! Let's see how you take on Mantine!" Marlon's second Pokemon is also a Flying Type, and its graceful aerial maneuvers prove too much for Amoonguss to handle. Despite Amoonguss's efforts to release a barrage of Spore and Clear Smog attacks, Mantine's Agility and moves like Air Slash keeps hitting Amoonguss, and it is an Ice Beam that knocks Amoonguss out in the ice.

"Mantine really has an advantage over Amoonguss with those Ice and Flying moves..." Golly says.

"You can do it, Ash!" Alice yells.

I send out my second Pokemon, which is Eelektross. The Acid Spray manages to poison the Mantine and that's when I keep using Thunderbolt. Mantine fights valiantly, but the relentless electric shocks prove to be too much as it faints in the end.

"Nice job, Eelektross!" I cheer.

"As expected from a no-weakness Pokemon. Let's see how it faces against Carracosta!" As he sends out the third Pokemon, it goes for Ancient Power, which boosts all the stats and gives him the upper hand.

I have Eelektross go for Ion Deluge, so that I can change Crush Claw into Electric Type, but it goes for Stone Edge, hitting Eelektross from the bottom, and then finishes with Aqua Jet.

"That Carracosta sure is strong..." Reisa says.

I am undeterred by the previous loss, sends out his Scrafty to face Carracosta. Iris yells, "Scrafty! This is your first gym battle!"

Axew is also cheering for Scrafty, and it goes for a powerful High Jump Kick, but much to my surprise, Carracosta goes for Shell Smash to break out of the shell, and Scrafty lands on the shell with pain.

"If that's the case, use Focus Blast!" Carracosta wants to finish Scrafty with the speed moves, but Scrafty's Focus Blast hits it and knocks it out of the battle.

"Awww, dude... I know I'm about done, but I'm still just so pumped up! Jellicent!"

The final Pokemon is the one with the Cursed Body... I have Scrafty use Crunch, but after landing the attack, Scrafty can't use the move anymore.

"No... Scrafty's moves are usually Fighting and Normal Type..." Eve gasps.

And in the end, Scrafty is finished by the Scald attack. My final Pokemon is Sceptile, which goes for Leaf Blade and strikes a lot of damage to Jellicent. After the Cursed Body, Sceptile changes into Leaf Storm, but Jellicent is able to use Recover to recover its health. It doesn't help when Sceptile is hit by an Ominous Wind. But in the end, Jellicent is still defeated by Sceptile's Night Slash attack.

"You don't just look strong, you're strong fo' reals! Eh, I was swept away, too! Oh yeah, yo. I was so surprised that I forgot! I gotta give this to you!"

Then we get the Wave Badge, which is my final badge. "That's the Wave Badge, the Unova region's new Gym Badge! Pretty sweet, right? Now you got all eight Badges, so you can be tight with any Pokémon!"

Then we thank Marlon as he jumps back into the water for a swim, and we all head out of the gym.
