Chapter 49
As we arrive at Vertress City, we find a lone Helioptile there, which is strange because Helioptile is a Kalos-native Pokemon. It tries to attack us with Parabolic Charge, but then a woman rushes to us and says, "Sorry, this little one scares easily."
"So does that mean the Pokemon is yours?" Iris asks.
"Yes, we're a team." The woman says. "My name is Alexa. I'm a Pokemon Journalist. I'm a magazine writer and a photographer. I'm here on a mission to see the battle between the Champions and write a report about it."
"That's us..." I say, and she wants to interview us, we decide to do it after the battle because we know that Mr. Goodshow is waiting for us. After we greet him, we use the Battlefield as we are going to have a battle.
Iris is now dressed in her Champion outfit, and she says, "Know what? I really look forward to having serious battles with strong Trainers! I mean, come on! The Trainers who make it here are Trainers who desire victory with every fiber of their being! And they are battling alongside Pokémon that have been through countless difficult battles! If I battle with people like that, not only will I get stronger, my Pokémon will, too! And we'll get to know each other even better! OK! Brace yourself! I'm Iris, the Pokémon League Champion, and I'm going to defeat you!"
"Let's see about that!" I say.
The match begins as Iris sends out Archeops. I decide to send out Seismitoad. Seismitoad uses a Sludge Bomb to make Archeops poisoned. Archeops uses Acrobatics to keep hitting Seismitoad, causing both Pokemon to faint.
Iris sends out Excadrill next, and I decide to send out Pikachu. I start the battle with Pikachu using Thunderbolt, which naturally has no effect on a part Ground-type like Excadrill. Iris then tells Excadrill to use Drill Run. I cleverly command Pikachu to use Quick Attack which helps it dodge the attack. However, Iris's Excadrill grabs Pikachu's tail between its claws, thrusts Pikachu across the arena, and then slams it using Metal Claw.
Pikachu manages to flip around and get back on its feet. It uses Iron Tail while Excadrill uses another Metal Claw. The two dive towards each other but Pikachu dodges the opposing Pokémon's attack and slams Excadrill to the ground.
Iris follows up with Focus Blast while Pikachu charges up Electro Ball. The two attacks collide into an electric light explosion. Iris's Pokémon drills into the ground and attacks Pikachu. I have Pikachu keep spinning and it uses the momentum to land a powerful Iron Tail into Excadrill's face. Despite the powerful attack, Excadrill still stands. It uses Drill Run while Ash tells Pikachu to use another Iron Tail. However, right before Pikachu can execute its attack, the opposing Pokémon rams into Pikachu, making it fall to the ground. Pikachu still manages to stand as Excadrill digs into the ground but misses Pikachu when it rises up. Iris then commands it to use Focus Blast which lands directly into Pikachu, causing it to fly backward and smash against the wall, also making Pikachu faint.
"Pikachu... you did your best." I frown before giving him to Alice. Then I send out Lucario as my third Pokemon. Lucario uses Power-Up Punch first, but Excadrill dodges by using Dig. But Lucario manages to sense the aura and find Excadrill, giving him a Bone Rush to make it faint.
Iris sends out Emolga next. Emolga uses Discharge on Lucario, but he crosses his arms and braces the attack. Then Lucario uses Dark Pulse, which hits Emolga. Emolga tries to use Attract, but Lucario crushes the hearts using Bone Rush. Then Emolga is defeated when Lucario fires Dragon Pulse.
"Wow, Ash and Iris aren't holding back." Reisa says.
"Yeah. I can sense the flavor of two different spices trying to mix together." Cilan says.
Iris sends out Druddigon. Druddigon defeats Lucario with a Dragon Claw, so I send out Vanilluxe.
"I won't back down even if it is an Ice-type." Iris says. Druddigon and Vanilluxe exchange attacks, but Druddigon lost when Vanilluxe uses Blizzard. Iris sends out Dragonite, which uses Dragon Rush with the combination of Flamethrower to defeat Vanilluxe. I decide to go with Gardevoir. Gardevoir uses Moonblast, causing Dragonite to get hurt. Dragonite uses Thunder Punch, but Gardevoir just teleports away. Then I have Gardevoir uses Attract so that Dragonite is immobilized by love, and then we finish it with a Draining Kiss.
"So this is the scene from Dragon Slayer Movie, huh?" Iris asks.
"Yeah, and the Prince is going to slay the dragon." I say.
"Wow, they still can talk about movies right now." Reisa says.
"I agree. They really know each other." Alice says.
Iris sends out Hydreigon, which is her last Pokemon. It goes for a Tri Attack to knock out my Gardevoir.
"Wow, he is so strong…" I say.
"Tri Attack is a move with 3 attacks..." Eve says. "It is no wonder."
"I wonder how Brother will win…" Golly says.
I turn my hat around and take out my final Pokemon. "Charizard, I choose you!"
Charizard appears on the field and gives a mighty roar. Iris begins the battle with Hydreigon's Fire Blast, which Charizard copies and counters. Charizard then takes flight, but Hydreigon follows right on its tail.
Iris tells Hydreigon to use Surf, which I counter by having Charizard use Fly, effectively dodging Hydreigon's attack. I then have Charizard use Slash, and Iris counters by having Hydreigon use Dragon Rush. The two moves collide in a big explosion, and Iris gets excited from how strong her Hydreigon is. Her exultation ends when Charizard emerges from the dust cloud and roars loudly.
I decide to show the results of Charizard's training by having it counter a Dragon-type attack with another and tells Charizard to use Dragon Tail. Iris tells Hydreigon to dodge it, but Charizard quickly catches up and hits the Dragon Pokémon, sending him crashing onto the ground. When the dust clears, Hydreigon is unable to battle.
"Hydreigon is unable to battle, Charizard is the winner, which means the victory goes to Ash!"
"Way to go! Charizard!" We all rush to hug him, who gives me a playful Flamethrower. Alice cheers, "Ash wins!"
"Yeah, now he is a Champion of half of the regions!" Eve says.
Iris recalls Hydreigon after cheering him up. Iris says, "Ash. I'm upset I couldn't win! But you know what? More than that, I'm happy! I mean, come on. By having a serious battle, you and your Pokémon, and me and my Pokémon, we all got to know one another better than before!"
"Yeah. Thanks to you." The two shake hands.
Charles Goodshow comes and says, "Ash, your Charizard is as strong as last time. Let us go to the Hall of Fame, shall we?"
And much to my surprise, the entrance of the Hall of Fame is weird like a solar system... and when the planets aligned, that's where the gate to Hall of Fame opens. After registering ourselves, we decide to do Alexa's interview.
Back in Nuvema Town, it is time for us to leave the Unova Region. Iris, Cilan, and even Alexa want to come to Kanto with us, so we all bid Professor Juniper farewell and leave on the ferry that takes us back to Vermilion City.
With Kanto on our sight, I ask, "So Alexa, what are you going to do in Kanto?"
"I'm going to interview the famous Professor Oak." Alexa says.
"You're going to like him for sure." Golly says.
"Do you know him?" Alexa asks.
"You see, we were born in Sevestar Region's Otem Town, but Pallet Town in Kanto is our second hometown. Pikachu and I also met in Professor Oak's Laboratory." I say.
After we finally arrive in Vermilion City, Iris and Cilan both express their wishes to start on their new journeys right away, with Iris wishing to go see Clair in Blackthorn City and Cilan wanting to participate in an Old Rod Fishing Rally hosted by Mr. Briney. Reisa also wants to challenge the Kanto Grand Festival, so the three of them are heading to the Magnet Train to Saffron so Reisa can start the contest in Saffron while the others can transfer their train to Johto.
Now the five of us are back at Pallet Town, we are happy to see it in sight. Alexa says, "So there it is! Where you were raised. And where your dream of becoming a Pokemon Master took shape."
"Yeah, I can't wait to see Mom and the rest of the family, too." Golly says.
Once we arrive at the door, we go to our house while Alexa goes to the lab on her own. "Mimey! We're back!" I call.
"Mom! We're home!" Golly says.
And it is then we're greeted by our Mother. "Welcome home, you four."
"It's good to see you, Ms. Ketchum." Alice says. After we try to clean our backpacks, my Mom says, "You've been giving it your all."
"Yeah, so where're the others?" Eve asks.
"Sorry, but this time they're not here." My mom says.
After we change our clothes, we tell our Mom about the journeys. "So Alexa is in Professor Oak's lab? Tonight I'm going to invite Professor Oak and Alexa for a home cook meal."
We nod as we then decide to go to the lab and find them. There, we find Leaf with another boy whom I've not met before, along with Professor Oak and Alexa.
"Ash! Guys! It's been a while!" Leaf says.
"It's great to see you guys again. So what are you up to?" I ask.
"You're Ash Ketchum, right? It is an honor to meet you... my name is Terry." The boy named Terry says.
"It's nice to meet you." I say. Then Professor Oak explains how my Mom adopted him in the Unova Region after his parents were killed by the attack in Opelucid City, we widen our eyes and I ask, "How many siblings are we going to adopt..."
Golly says, "As long as my Mom and Dad are fine, I guess it's okay..."
Then we decide to chat for some more until we all head back home for dinner. Eve says, "So what's your next goal, Ash? What region are you going next?"
"It is pretty obvious. We're going to Kalos next." I say, and this causes everyone in the room to be surprised. Alice says, "Seriously? I really want to travel with you in the Kalos... but I guess that it is Serena's turn..."
"Sorry about that." I say. "But we have been to Kalos a lot of times, but this will be the first time traveling the region and getting gym badges there... I also have to become stronger..."
The next day, Alice, Eve, Alexa, and I are heading to Kalos, with Alice and Eve heading back home and I'm going to start in Lumiose City. And I can't wait to see what is going to happen there.
This is the end of the Unova Arc, and I hope you like it. The next chapter will be the Kalos Arc, which is one of the most exciting arcs that I like to write. I hope you like this chapter.
