"Huh, ineteresting." After Jace had read the letter and got introduced to his new partner, he had quickly gotten out of bed and went to his crappy old computer in the corner of the room.

He was researching somethings before he begun his journey. Firstly, he was happy to find out that Ash wasn't in this universe.

Secondly, to actually start his journey he needed to have a Trainer's License. To get this license he just needed to go to a Professor or Gym leader, and show them that he had a pokemon, while also writing a small easy test.

Although everything seemed fine and dandy, Jace realised that the test would probably not be easy for him, as he had no knowledge of pokemon biology and other unimportant stuff about this world.

If the test only consisted of type matchups, gym leaders, pokemon typings, etc. he would ace it, but he knew it wouldn't be that easy.

With a headache already forming, he decided to scan his little partner with his pokedex.

He took out his pokedex and pointed it at Frigibax, who had somehow jumped up onto the desk and stayed quite the whole time, his curious eyes following the lines of text on the computer screen.

The pokedex scanned Frigibax, which took about a minute long, and showed his information on the screen.

"Alright, so you are a male," he looked at Frigibax after reading the first line of information. He tried to think of a name, but quickly gave up, thinking it was stupid.

"Tackle, Dragon tail and Icicle spear? Yeah, I can work with that." He looked at Frigibax again and patted him on the head. "Well I guess it's time. Even though I'll probably flunk the test, I don't want to wait any longer."

He quickly got dressed and packed his stuff, preparing for the adventure ahead. After packing everything, he stood infront of the mirror in his small bathroom.

His blonde hair was a bit messy, but he liked it like that. His brown eyes didn't really stand out, but eh, who cared?

He quickly washed his face and ran out of his rented flat, aiming for Proffesor Rowan's lab.

'So this is Sandgem town? Much more bustling and vibrant then the games portrayed it,' he thought looking around.

There were humans and pokemon almost everywhere in the town. Living in almost perfect harmony. Frigibax also looked excitingly around him.

He didn't like the pokeball so Jace let him out as soon as had left his flat.

Jace shook his head and smirked as he looked at Frigibax. He looked up again and saw the large building some ways infront of him.

While walking towards the lab, he knew he would have money problems, so he made plans on how to make money. He knew his main source of income would be battle earnings, but he needed somthing else.

He shook his head, leaving it for later as he stopped infront of the building's doors. He quickly pulled out Frigibax's pokeball and looked at him.

"Sorry buddy, it will be quick I promise." Frigibax looked a bit bumbed out, but nodded. He pressed the recall button and Frigibax dissapeared in a flash of red. Jace then pushed the doors open and walked inside.

The lobby look like any other reception area, other than the odd pokemon here and there, it was nothing special.

Hearing someone enter, the receptionist at the desk looked up from what she was doing. "Ah! Jace, welcome. What brings you here?" She looked questioningly at Jace.

"I would like to apply for a Trainer's License. If that is possible?" The receptionist eyes went wide, but she quickly changed her expression. A smile plastered on her face once more.

"Sure! Take a seat. The Proffesor will see you shortly." Jace nodded and took a seat on one of the chairs in the corner of the lobby.

Jace didn't wait long until his name was called. He quickly stood up and walked towards the doors leading to the Proffesor's office.

After entering a hallway and walking for a bit, he stood infront of a set of doors. Above the doors was sign that read 'Proffesor Rowan'.

Jace took a deep breath in and opened the doors.

He was greeted by the sight of Prof. Rowan sitting at his desk reading something. Prof. Rowan looked up after reading a bit more.

"Take a seat." Jace nodded and sat on the chair infront of Prof. Rowan's desk.

Prof. Rowan looked questioningly at Jace. "So you want to get a Trainer's License?", he asked. "Yes sir, I would like to become a trainer."

Prof. Rowan sighed and looked at Jace, a strange emotion flashing in his eyes. "Alright, do you have a pokemon?"

Jace nodded and showed him Frigibax's pokeball. Prof. Rowan lifted his eyebrow as he looked at the pokeball.

"How did you get it?", he asked curiously.

"A gift from my family, sir," Jace said, looking at Prof. Rowan.

Prof. Rowan gave a deep sigh.

"Alright, I have a preposal for you. I have another future trainer looking to get a license. Instead of the usual test, how about a battle between you two?" He looked questioningly at Jace.

Jace thought for awhile, but before he could answer, Prof. Rowan added, "I will reward you, depending on how you do in the battle."

That got Jace's attention. "Alright, sure.", he nodded. They both then stood up and Prof. Rowan led the way to the indoor practice field where the mystery future trainer was already waiting.

Entering the practice field, Jace's face instantly turned sour. His opponent was one of his bullies, Brandon.

Brandon, looked up from what he was doing when he heard the doors open. A smirk slowly creeping on his face as he saw who his opponent was.

"This is going to be a walk in the park!", he laughed.

Jace ignored the comment and walked to the other side of the field.

Seeing that Jace ignored him, made Brandon angry, but he didn't make any further comments, seeing that they would also be ignored.

Prof. Rowan went to the middle of the field, acting as refferee for this match. He looked at both wannabe trainers.

"This is a match that will determine your future. This match will be set on your records. The rules are simple. No held items, potions or any boosters. A simple one on one match. Do you both understand?"

Both Brandon and Jace nodded their heads.

"Alright release your pokemon."

They both released their pokemon. After the light dissapeared, it was revealed that Brandon had a Chimchar.

Upon seeing Frigibax Brandon gave it a curious stare. "What's that supposed to be?" Upon recieving no reply, Brandon's scowl grew even larger.

"You will regret this!"

It was met with no reply.

"Hey Frigibax! This is our first battle, so put your game face on! Follow my orders and I'll make sure win this. You understand?"

Frigibax looked at Jace and nodded his head, eyes full of determination. He then turned back towards Chimchar who eyed him arrogantly.

Prof. Rowan's eyes widened after seeing Frigibax, but he didn't say anything.

"Are both trainers ready?"

""Yes""

"Alright then, let the match begin!"

"Chimchar! Use ember, hit him where it hurts!" Brandon ordered.

Chimchar's mouth ballooned as he prepared his attack.

"Try to dodge most of them! Cancel the others out with Icicle spear!"

As Jace finished ordering Frigibax. Chimchar let loose his attack.

Small embers bursting from his mouth like bullets, screeching through the air towards Frigibax.

Frigibax quickly took action, his legs tensing. He then took off as the birrage of embers neered him.

The embers finally arrived and Frigibax tried to dodge. Some missed as he reered left and right, but most had hit their mark.

"Again!"

Another volley came screeching towards him, but Frigibax was prepared this time.

The appendages on his arms gained an icy blue glow as they hardened.

The embers arrived once more. Frigibax began weaving between the embers, while blocking the ones he could by swigning his hardened appendages at them.

Most of the embers still hit, but it was a lesser number this time.

"Again!"

'Shit, this is going to be a battle of stamina.' Jace scowled, until his eyes widened. 'I have an idea!'

"Just keep holding on, Frigibax!" Frigibax nodded affirmatively, while keeping his eyes on the next volley of embers. Then he took off once more.

This exchange happened a few more times, Frigibax getting better at dodging the projectiles, but getting more tired and hurt as the time went on.

Until it happened, Frigibax was too concentrated on the birrage of embers.

"Now! Fire punch!"

While conentrating on the last birrage of embers, Frigibax didn't notice Chimchar sprinting up to him until it was to late.

Chimchar reeled his fiery fist back as he entered Frigibax's range and swung his fist. It blurred as it decked Frigibax in the face, sending Frigibax flying.

As Frigibax landed a few feet back, Jace scowled.

"Fire punch! Again!"

Chimchar sprinted on all fours towards Frigibax, who had just gotten up, with even more vigor. It quickly arrived infront of Frigibax and swung his fiery fist.

'Bingo!' Jace thought, his face instantly changing into one of glee.

"Dragon tail!"

It all happened in an instant.

A small fire appeared in Frigibax's eyes as he heard the command, all his fatigue dissapearing in an instant. Dragon type energy formed on his small tail, elongating it.

Frigibax, with supernatural reflexes, ducked under chimchar's flaming fist. The heat making Frigibax grimace, but Frigibax still swung.

His whole body span, his tail turning into a blur of purple energy as it made contact with Chimchar's gut.

A loud smacking sound was heard as Chimchar was sent flying.

He landed on the ground and skidded like a pebble on water across the field until coming to a full stop.

It was silent for a few seconds, until Prof. Rowan came back to reality.

"Chimchar is unable to battle. Jace wins!"

"Huh!? There's no way! He must have cheated!" Brandon shouted in disbelieve.

"Now, there is no need for that! He won fair and square." Prof. Rowan sighed.

"But, How!?", he still couldnt believe it.

Prof. Rowan smiled and looked at Jace. "Why don't you explain?"

Jace contemplated it for a bit, but then sighed. "Sure. Frigibax's ability is Thermal Exchange, the ability boosts Frigibax's attack when hit with fire type attacks. So this was just an unlucky matchup for you."

Brandon scowled, wanting to say something, but was quickly interupted.

"Not another word out of you. Go take a breather, go to my office, I will have a word with you." Prof. Rowan sternly looked at Brandon.

Brandon gritted his teeth, but nodded and left the field.

Prof. Rowan turned his head towards Jace. Jace tensed out of reflex.

"Now, for you. I have a question for you.", he looked sternly at Jace. Jace's knees started feeling weak.

"I want to sponsor you do you accept?"

"Huh?"
