Merry knocked Hans to the ground with the strength of 10 men. Then she placed her hands around Hans' neck and began to strangle him. "You humiliated me, Hans," Merry sadistically cried. "Look at me! I no longer have control over the Southern Isles because of you! I'm going to enjoy this." While that was happening, James approached Gerda. "Give me the dagger and I'll make your death quick!" James gruffly said. Gerda dropped the dagger to the ground and picked up her sword. It didn't take long for Gerda to be overpowered. James quickly knocked her to the ground, and tried to grab the dagger, but Gerda grabbed it first. She picked it up and waved it. A blast of energy came out of the dagger and struck James, Finn, Merry, and Liz. Undead forms came out of them. 3 of the undead forms struck the ground and crumbled to shards, for their curse wouldn't permit them to go on land. But the undead form of Jacob fell off the platform into the river and was quickly washed away.
James, Finn, Merry, and Liz, were unconscious at first, but soon they came to. Merry was the first to say something. "Have I got a headache," she said, rubbing her head. "Is everybody alright?" Kai said, addressing those who had just been possessed. "If alright means being barely alive, then I guess so," replied Liz. "You wouldn't believe what just happened to us. I think we were possessed or something. It'll take some time to explain, though." "I'm not interested in hearing you explain anything," Hans snapped. He walked over to Gerda. "How did you do that?" he asked. "How did you expel the undead out of their bodies with the dagger?" "I don't know!" answered Gerda. "My mind went blank, for my head had just hit the ground. I don't know if I'll be able to do it again, and I don't really want to be in a situation where I have to try. Besides, it's not like the dagger will have any power for much longer. We're going to return the power of the dagger back to the spirits. Hans, let's go home." "Home?" said Hans. "Yes, home," laughed Gerda. "Arendelle could be your home." "Even after all I did?" he questioned. "Hans, if I'm starting to like you, then of course there's hope for you," she exclaimed.
"Kai, Aaron, Gerda, let's go to Arendelle," Hans cried. Gerda placed the Eternal Dagger in her bag, while Kai looked over at James, Finn, Merry, and Liz. "Uncle, what about them?" Kai asked. "Will we take them with us?" "Hans, please, there's no food on this island," begged Merry. "If we stay on this island, we'll soon starve to death. Please, Hans, if not for them, at least for me. After all, I really tried to break free from being possessed to avoid harming you." "Oh, very well," Hans replied. "You can all stay on THE THROWAWAY for a while longer, but once we get back to Arendelle you are all getting off this ship." Once they made it out of the cave, they got onto the rowboat and rowed back to THE THROWAWAY. Once they boarded the ship, Gibbons was surprised to see James, Finn, Liz, and Merry. "I bet you all have quite a tale to tell," he remarked.
Hans ordered the sails of the ship to be raised. "Sail for Arendelle," he ordered. Many members of his crew didn't want to go there, but they reluctantly agreed. It didn't take long for them to spot a ship in the distance. A ship with distinctive torn sails. "Hans, could that be THE SUMMER GULL?" asked Gibbons. "I don't know if I want to know," Hans replied. "We must sail for land quickly. The undead cannot touch land. Full speed ahead!" "Aye aye, Captain!" shouted Gibbons. It didn't take long for THE SUMMER GULL to sail within range. But ahead of Hans was an island. "Full speed ahead!" Hans roared. "We might just make it!" But soon THE SUMMER GULL sailed mere meters away from THE THROWAWAY. Hans shivered when he saw his father sneering at him from the deck of THE SUMMER GULL. Hans was so sure he'd seen the last of him.
"Fire the cannons!" Hans roared, even though he suspected that cannons wouldn't work against the undead. His crewmembers loaded cannonballs into their cannons and fired. All this almost seemed to be for nothing. It was only a matter of time before THE SUMMER GULL sailed close enough for the sailors to board their ship. About 10 of the undead leapt from THE SUMMER GULL onto the deck of THE THROWAWAY. King Jacob was one of them. "Gerda, I think it's time to wield the Eternal Dagger as a weapon!" Hans shouted. Gerda reached into her bag and took out the Eternal Dagger. She waved it around, but it didn't do anything. "It doesn't seem to work right now!" she cried.
King Jacob ran over to Hans waving his sword. "It's time to kill a throwaway!" Jacob quipped, raising his sword against his son. Hans took out his sword and began fighting his father. At first, it seemed as though the two were evenly matched, but it soon became clear that Jacob was the stronger fighter. Finally, Jacob kicked Hans to the ground. "Your skill with the sword has gotten weaker, my son," Jacob grimly said. "Or maybe you've just gone soft." Jacob pointed the tip of the sword at Hans' neck. "Well, what are you waiting for?" Hans snapped. "Get it over with and run me through." "Your punishment must be more severe," Jacob answered. Jacob stepped on Hans' neck so that Hans couldn't breathe. He took out a crystal shard. "Would you like to know what it feels to be neither living nor dead?" grinned Jacob. Just as Jacob was about to pierce Hans with the shard, Kai rushed over towards them. "Nooo!" roared Kai. He was not about to let any harm come to his uncle. Kai leapt on Jacob and tackled him to the ground. However, Jacob was stronger than Kai and quickly overpowered him. Jacob raised the shard he held in his hand and cut Kai's right arm with it. Agonizing pain coursed through Kai's veins, but something felt unnatural about the pain. It felt to him as if the wound caused by the shard was spreading. But no blood came out of the wound.
"Kai!" Hans shouted. He stood up and was just about to run towards him when the ship suddenly stopped. The change in momentum caused Hans to fall to the ground. "Land!" gasped several of the undead crew. THE THROWAWAY had indeed struck land. The undead crew rushed to get off the ship and back on THE SUMMER GULL. But some couldn't make it off the ship and time and crumbled to shards. Jacob leapt off the ship and made his way back to deck of THE SUMMER GULL. Hans breathed a sigh of relief. For a time, Jacob stood on THE SUMMER GULL watching Hans silently. He saw Hans examine Kai's wound. "How long are you going to stay here watching us?" Gerda shouted at Jacob. "Don't you have anything better to do?"
"King Jacob, there's a ship in the distance," said an undead crewmember who held a telescope. "Sail after it," Jacob replied. "But the dagger!" protested another crewmember. "I've got something planned," Jacob whispered. "I know where they're probably heading. Remember how we once captured several members of Hans' crew? They told us many things about Captain Hans." Then Jacob turned to the crew of THE THROWAWAY and singled out Gerda. "Unfortunately, you're right!" Jacob shouted. "Oh, and by the way, Hans' nephew is gravely injured by a magical shard. If the magical wounds spread too far, he'll crumble to shards if he remains on land. Adieu." Jacob raised the sails of THE SUMMER GULL and sailed away from them.
Hans was not expecting this to happen. He thought his father would continue to look upon them. He looked at Kai's arm wound. Dry cracks were appearing where Kai was struck by the shard. "This is awful, Hans," warned Liz. "I'd recognize these wounds anywhere. If these wounds spread across his whole body, he will become like them. Neither living nor dead." Hans nodded as tears dripped down his face. "Uncle, please throw me off the ship," begged Kai in a weak voice. "Let me crumble away on dry land so I don't become like them. So I don't hurt anyone." Gerda bent over and kissed Kai on the lips. Hans looked confused as if he didn't know what to make of what he just saw. "Kai, we'll get you to Arendelle," she said. "My father may not be the brightest tool in the box, but he knows quite a bit about troll medicine. If there's any hope for a cure, then it's in Arendelle." Kai smiled and blushed when Gerda kissed him. "That kiss makes me almost glad I got wounded," Kai said.
Hans felt the direction of the wind change. "Right now the wind seems to be with us," Hans shouted to his crew. "We need to get Kai to Arendelle. Troll medicine may be his only hope." "But Hans-" objected Liz. "Everyone who disagrees with me can remain on the island or walk the bloody plank!" Hans roared. The crewmembers did as they were told and raised the sails. They were going to Arendelle!
Liz looked at Kai with deep respect. "The toxic wounds should have spread much faster," remarked Liz to Hans. "Your nephew is quite a fighter." "He gets it from his father," Hans sadly said. Tears fell down his face and dripped onto Kai's face. "Kai, please, just hold on for a little longer," Hans begged. "In a matter of hours, we'll be in Arendelle." But now, not only were Kai's the cracks from Kai's wound spreading until they almost covered his entire body, but his teeth were beginning to change as well. His eyes, however, were still normal. "Kai, see that patch of land in the distance!" said Hans, pointing towards Arendelle. "It's Arendelle. We're going to make it in time."
"Actually, we're not!" Liz said. She took out a pistol and pointed it at Hans. "You devil!" snapped Hans. "But I'm betting that gun is empty." Liz pulled the trigger and sent a bullet flying through a beer barrel. Beer leaked out of the barrel where the bullet had struck. "I made sure that my pistol was loaded this time," she explained.
"What do you want, Liz?"
"I want you to come to your senses. Look at your nephew! Look at what he's becoming. He's sprouted fangs. We have to throw him off the ship now!"
"Over my dead body!"
"That can be arranged!"
Liz was about to pull the trigger when Gerda shouted, "Noooo!" She turned and looked at Gerda. "If you want us to leave this ship, then fine," Gerda shouted. "All hail Captain Liz!" shouted James, Merry, Gibbons, Finn, and Crowley simultaneously. "Traitors!" Hans grumbled. Liz walked over to Gerda while Merry pulled a pistol on Hans. "Hans and Kai will leave this ship, but not you," Liz said. "Because you have something I want. Give me the Eternal Dagger." Gerda kept silent. "Fine, I'll take it myself!" snapped Liz. Liz grabbed Gerda's bag and pulled out a dagger, and then tossed the bag back to Gerda. "Thank you, Gerda, I'm sure this will one day prove to be handy for us," said Liz. She turned to her crew. "Get these people off my ship!" she ordered.
Just like that, Hans, Gerda, and Kai, were thrown off the ship and into a rowboat, while THE THROWAWAY sailed away from them away from Arendelle. Hans and Gerda took the oars. They needed to row as fast as they could if they were going to make it to Arendelle before the poison infected Kai completely. "Uncle, I feel so cold," trembled Kai. "Please throw me off this boat."
