Structured Chaos
Chapter 37
"We've been waiting for you to wake up."
"I wanted you to rest. You're body has gone through alot."
"I can rest later. When the both of us are home."
"Lucas just tell me what's going on please!" Brooke pleaded.
Lucas took a deep breath taking her hand in his.
"It was so fast. I hated how out of control everything was."
"I was in the room when they brought you into the delivery."
"I was right there by you're side. You were out of it."
"She came into the world. She wasn't crying or really moving much. They took her away."
"I stayed with you." Lucas explained.
Brooke wrapped her arms around herself.
"Nooooo! I want to see her. To hold her. She needs me."
"This is all wrong. She's too early. We both know it." Brooke exclaimed. The emotion in her voice thick.
Lucas wiped the tears falling from his eyes.
"She has less then 50 percent survival rate."
"She's small and isn't developed enough."
"But she's half Davis and half Scott. She's tough. Strong."
"I need to prepare you for what you're going to see." Lucas said.
Brooke listened closely but really she just wanted and needed to see her daughter.
And once Lucas was able. He wheeled Brooke into the hospital nursery. Labeled the Nicu.
It was where high risk babies were kept and cared for. Various levels of sick babies were there.
Some eventually went home and others didn't.
Brooke insisted that she hold their daughter.
And Lucas didn't fight against. Instead he made his way over to the incubator and carefully put their daughter in her mother's arms.
Brooke broke down into tears then.
Lucas wanted to reassure her and support her but he didn't know what to say or do.
Because at this point. It was up to them. Doctors could only do so much. The fate of their daughter wasn't one they could determine
And that was more then what they could bare.
