"AAAAHHHHHHGG!" Beastboy cried as he immediately woke up from his worst nightmare of his life. Sweat was visible on his body, and his labored breathing could be heard. It took him a moment to look around before realizing he was in his room, which was as usual, messy and reeking. He took a deep breath to calm himself down and sighed in relief that it was only just a nightmare.
Looking at the time, he realized it was already half past five. No longer needing any more sleep, he got out of bed and put on one of his hero suits from his closet. After a while, he left his room to head to the common room for breakfast.
As he entered, he saw her in the kitchen, preparing her cup of tea. Still remembering some bits from his nightmare, his body became stiff at her presence; unsure how to approach her.
Being the resident empath of the Tower, she sensed his fear and turned her head in his direction. Both of them looked at each other, waiting for one of them to speak first. Eventually, Beast Boy started speaking, still hesitating.
"Hi, Rae." He greeted as he made his way to the kitchen to prepare his cereal.
"Hello, Beastboy." she replied back before turning back to her task. Afterwards, both of them sat on the island; Raven read her book at hand while Beastboy ate his cereal, still feeling cautious around her.
She started, darting her eyes at him. "Is there something you want to talk about?"
"Huh? Uh, no. It's nothing." He replied, his nervousness quite evident.
"You know I'm an empath, right? I can sense your anxiety when you came here. You can tell me what's bothering you. Otherwise, things might get worse for you." Raven warned as her stare became quite stern with a hint of worry in her eyes, making Beastboy look petrified.
"I'm sorry, but I can't talk about it right now. Excuse me..." Beast Boy quickly stood up and left the common room, leaving her confused and worried by his strange behavior.
From time to time, Beast Boy tries to avoid Raven whenever they meet. Whether they have lunch or are simply hanging out with the other Titans, he does his best not to look at her. Even when there are crime alerts and the enemies are wreaking havoc, he also tries to avoid her as much as he can. The closest conversations they get are related to missions or instructions from Robin, but beyond that, nothing else happens. Not that she doesn't mind the peace and quiet she gets from it, but it feels unnatural for him to act this way, which irks her. Not even the other three Titans know what's up with him either. As much as she probably hates doing this, she has to confront him as soon as possible. 25% of the reason comes from Robin's instruction though. Just as she was about to call him personally in his room, she meets him walking back to the common room.
"Great timing. Beast Boy, we need to talk, not that I want to do this."
"Is it important?" Beast Boy replies, scratching his head.
"Do you think I would have called you if it wasn't important?" she asks, rolling her eyes at the obviousness of the question. "Of course I do," she adds, walking away. Beast Boy hesitates for a moment before following her.
The sun started to set, and so was their conversation as they sat at the edge of the rooftop, dangling their legs in the air.
"So… Care to tell me what's on your mind?" Raven started softly, knowing he would not open up unless she gave him assurance.
Beast Boy felt silent for a moment, thinking about how to explain what happened earlier. After a while, he cleared his throat and began speaking. "I had a nightmare."
Raven couldn't believe what she just heard. All of this trouble for just a simple nightmare. Sure, she also had a fair share of those, but to use that as a reason to avoid her was out of the question. Regardless, she kept her composure and continued. "How bad is it?"
"Terrible. Absolutely nasty and scary. I don't even want to experience that again. It makes me want to puke." He clutched both of his arms at the sudden thought of it. She could feel how scared he had been.
"Is that somehow related to me?"
"I don't want to admit it, but yes."
"What did I do?"
"I didn't exactly remember, but all I knew was that you had done some terrible things not only to me but to the others. I vaguely remembered saying things like "I hate you". I don't even know anymore. I want to forget about it, but... It's too heavy and traumatic for me." Tears came down from his eyes. Raven didn't expect him to tear down or cry. He was supposedly the jester of the team, lightening the mood within the tower through his jokes and antics. Seeing him like this couldn't help but make her feel her utmost sympathy. Without even realizing, that struck the strings in her heart.
Without any hesitation, she gave him a gentle hug and carefully rubbed his back; something that was not usual for her, but she was willing to do it when needed. "It's okay, Beastboy. You don't have to worry about the details. Cry if you need to. I'll be always here for you if you want someone to cry with."
Something from those words caught his attention for a brief moment before he indulged himself in her embrace, finally allowing himself to cry. It took them some time before he decided to pull away from the embrace and wipe his tears. "Thanks. I feel better now."
"That's good, then." she replied back, sharing him a small smile. "Maybe you should go back. The others want to see you; especially Robin. He really wants to have a piece of his mind for acting weird all of the sudden." She mused, which made him chuckle nervously.
"Is that so?" He replied, standing up and immediately going to the door. As he opened the door, he looked back at her. "See you later, Rae." He smiled before closing the door and leaving. After a while, Raven stood up and walked to the middle of the rooftop. She felt silent for a moment before muttering something under her breath. Eventually, she smiled... but not a pleasant one. Instead, it was a frightening one.
"Don't worry, my dear Gar." she whispered along the lines, still wearing her creepy smile similar to his nightmares. "I'll never hurt you or make you hate me. I'll even relieve you from your fears. After all... We are meant for each other, forever and ever! Together Forever!" Raven uttered, filled with corrupted love and insanity just from the thoughts of him.
His nightmare is not just an ordinary nightmare, but also the prelude of something catastrophic as he's not aware yet on what's about to happen. After all, he is already doomed to love her, forever and ever...
