"Tex, where are you? Dinner's about to start," Rachel said as she peered around the corner and noticed him getting ready. He was wearing a tie. She'd never seen him like this. And it was kind of adorable that he thought that he had to wear a tie to thanksgiving.
He seemed to be having trouble with putting the tie together, but she thought that was kind of cute. Tex wasn't the kind of guy who needed to wear a tie a lot. He probably usually had some sort of video to help him, but today he seemed to try to be winging it, which wouldn't do at all if this was the way that he wanted to be dressed for thanksgiving.
"You look very dapper," She said. She didn't think about it for too long. Giving herself time to think about how Tex looked, well, it would be inappropriate. They had a working relationship after all. And it would be hard to live and work together if they thought that each other was cute. He'd given some clue that it was not entirely out of context that he thought she was cute, but that made sense. He was a guy. He was allowed to be a little more loosey goosey with his feelings about people like that.
Tex had the good sense to blush at her dapper compliment. He stopped trying to fuss with the tie. "You don't think it's too much?" He asked.
She nodded. "It's entirely too much. But if it's what you want, then it's what you shall have. And let's see if we can fix this tie for you," She said, before taking it and straightening it out. It was a nice silk tie. He'd clearly spent money on it.
When she put it around his neck, he blushed. He didn't know why he was blushing, but here he was blushing like a fool. He closed his eyes and took a deep breath. Best to keep it cool, he thought. When he opened his eyes, she was looking up at him as her hands worked to meticulously loop the piece of fabric around him. He felt a cold bead of sweat form while looking into her eyes, while she did up his tie. There was something sexy about it. She didn't even have anything sexy on, not that she needed too. She was sexy regardless. But there was something sexy about her helping him into his clothes.
He guessed, it was because he could imagine the opposite. Her helping him out of his clothes. And now he blushed even harder than before, but he never took his eyes off hers. She did the same, keeping her eyes on him as her hands looped the tie in its intricate steps.
It was only when they were interrupted by a clearing of a throat that they took their eyes off each other. They both looked. It was Tom. "Dinner's ready," He said. "Are you two okay?" He asked.
Rachel quickly nodded and stepped back. "He couldn't figure out his tie," She said, a little flustered. Tex thought that he should put that in the back of his mind so that he could talk to her about it later. It would definitely be a conversation worth having. Because there was something between them, he just couldn't figure out what it was yet. And he'd need her to be honest with him about what she thought it was first.
"Uh huh," Tom said. He decided that it was their business first. Tex liking Rachel was only an added benefit to his security duties. He would make sure that she would never come to harm's way. Rachel liking him, well it meant that she complained less and made Tom's job easier, not exactly a downside for him. He walked away from the scene leaving the two to deal with their own mess.
Rachel gulped. "Well, we should…"
He nodded. "Dinner's ready," He said as he put out his hand.
She took it and they made their way to the dining room, where a full cornucopia of food was laid out on the table. He took Rachel to her seat and pulled her chair out, like a gentleman. He knew a thing or two about that, even if the tie seemed to be his kryptonite. She took the chair and blushed.
He and President Scott were the only two wearing fine apparel, but he decided that it was nice. And it wasn't like everyone else was dressed like a slob, they were just in slightly less formal clothes than he and the president. Which was fine. The president seemed to think so. So what was he going to say?
The turkey was nice. It was good to have a good family meal with an actual family. It was weird for him that so many people did this day like this, but today, it didn't feel so weird, he thought. Today it felt kind of good to be surrounded by people who liked him. Tom didn't look up during the entire meal, he was entirely focused on his food.
Everyone used their forks for food, which was nice. He did have time to think that part of his job was to protect Rachel and while it wasn't exactly serious, no one should be using their forks for anything else, he did manage to keep an eye on everyone's forks ever now and again.
"Dinner is excellent, Mrs. Scott," Tom managed, through bites.
Tex nodded. "It's one of the best dinners I've had in years, Mrs. Scott."
"Oh, you don't have to call me Mrs. Scott, please call me Eliza."
He nodded. "Well, thank you, Eliza." He said. "Why don't Rachel and I clear the table?" He asked.
Rachel stuck her tongue out at him, but then nodded. "I think that would be a lovely idea, Tex," She said as she moved to get up. He pulled the chair out for her and she smiled. "You're being extraordinarily polite today,"
"Got to make the day special for the princess," He winked.
She took plates out of the way, while he took glasses. They wiped away the mess of the table, relatively quickly, including packing leftovers up and into the fridge. He was impressed by the fact that they had containers to put leftovers. Though, he guessed that he shouldn't be that shocked. They were just a relatively normal family that also happened to be the first family of the United States. It wasn't like that was a big deal for them.
