A/N: This would be my fifth and final installment to my Legends series of stories. I've posted four so far: Legends of Potter, Potter of Legends, Trial of a Legend, and In Need of a Legend. If I could ever get the inspiration needed I would love to complete this last one and get it posted. Unfortunately, I've had very little inspiration on it for quite a while. I was shooting for a more original story rather than following an Avenger movie and inserting my Harry in the middle of it. This makes inspiration even more difficult but it is not the only reason for my lack of inspiration. For instance, my muse apparently is on drugs.

Avengers – Legend Recruit
By Roff

CHAPTER ONE

Harry Potter was bored.

His youngest and last child, Lily, had already gone off to Hogwarts to join her brothers there. Ginny decided to go back to work after the kids were no longer at home all the time. She was working for the Daily Prophet now covering Quidditch games and standings. It didn't matter that the Potter family owned 51% of the paper, Ginny was more than qualified for the job. It was also a good job for her after her years as a chaser with the Holyhead Harpies.

She had written a few articles for the Prophet over the years since she retired from the Harpies but it was always freelance. Now she was working full-time for the Prophet but had an agreement to work from home during the summers and holidays when the kids were not at Hogwarts. Harry, on the other hand, always worked from home and enjoyed all the time he had with the kids as they grew over the years.

Harry stayed busy with Potter Place and all of his holdings but when his old head house elf, Mattie, passed on he decided to get some help, especially since he wanted to spend more time with his kids. Lucy made a great head house elf, replacing Mattie, but it just wasn't the same. Harry had grown very close to Mattie over the years and so had Ginny and the kids. It was a very difficult loss on the entire family and all the house elves at Potter Place when she died.

During the summers after Teddy Lupin was a teenager, Harry had started training Teddy, his godson, on all things Potter. He was smart like his father and picked up everything quickly. He was already accustomed to spending a lot of time at Potter Place since Harry had been training him from an early age in various forms of martial arts. He also assisted Harry with training James, Al, and Lily when they were old enough to start learning for themselves. Ginny helped too, of course.

Sometimes even the old gang would get together for some sparring matches. It's funny how the old gang had grown from the original six. Tonks joined not long after that and Kingsley right along with her. Then Kevin joined and he's still teaching karate at Hogwarts with the help of his wife Lucy, whom he personally trained. He tended to work more with the experienced students while Lucy spent more time with the beginners. Harry's kids could help them teach at this point and they did on occasion, especially since Lucy was now expecting again.

Ron and Hermione's business was very successful and Harry enjoyed the fruits of their labor. He continually received ten percent of their prophets but the biggest advantage was all the free merchandise he received whenever he wanted it. The kids enjoyed all the games but Harry liked the large flat screen TVs, the digital video players, and catching the non-magical news on occasion.

Over the past few years, the news had been very interesting. Apparently, in the normal world there was a rise in super-powered humans. Technology had also taken a huge leap forward and it was becoming increasingly more difficult for the magical community to hide from the mundanes. Now, it was more a case of when the magical world would be revealed, rather than if. Plus, given some of the powers of the supers out there, magic would likely not be that big of a deal.

Apparently, people with special powers have been around for a while too. There was that one called Captain America who'd been buried in ice for around seventy years before they dug him up and found he was still alive. The billionaire Tony Stark was a regular guy, although he was also some sort of technological and mechanical genius who created a metal suit that gave him super powers. Then there was the Hulk, a big green hulking monster that was actually a scientist, Dr. Bruce Banner. He was sort of like a Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde who turned really big and really green whenever he was angered.

There were more of them like Black Widow and Hawkeye, but the biggest surprise were the ones from other worlds such as Thor and his brother Loki. Even the wizarding world knew of the God of Thunder and the Trickster but for the longest time they thought they were just Legend, not real demi-gods from another world.

According to the mundane news, there was a big attack on New York by aliens several years back and a team of super powered individuals called the Avengers was what stopped the invasion. Ever since then the governments had taken a big interest in making sure the world was prepared for any attacks that may come in the future, especially since they no longer questioned the existence of alien life forms. The Avengers had promised to be available should they ever need to come together again for protection of the Earth. After that attack, some new supers had joined the Avengers and were being trained to help where they could.

What was interesting was one of the new ones was called the Scarlet Witch and used magic as her power, although her magic looked slightly different. Another was Dr. Strange who also used a different type of magic.

This made Harry wonder if he could be of assistance in the future should another attack happen. After all, there was a lot he could do with his magic and knew of no other magic user who was as powerful as he was, at least to his knowledge anyway.

He certainly had a big enough arsenal at his fingertips if he should ever help. He had figured out how to fly years ago and evidently, several of the supers could also fly. When he flew using his magic, he looked like smoke moving across the sky and he could fly pretty fast that way. He also could use his wind element to fly and reach even greater speeds. If needed, he could use his animagus forms to fly. His gryphon and dragon could fly really well, so could his phoenix.

With his phoenix he could use his flame travel to go anywhere in the world instantly. Harry supposed that would be a useful power to have for a hero.

Hero?

Wow. Many had called Harry a hero but he never thought of himself that way. He wasn't interested in being a hero, he was more concerned with helping those who needed it, and if there was a threat to this world he called home, then he felt it was his duty to lend a hand wherever he could.

The wizarding world still remained hidden from the normal world and due to that, they had no clue what was going on. The magical world kept themselves so cut-off and insular from the regular world that Harry didn't find out their world had been threatened by aliens until years after it had occurred. It was his biggest wake-up call once he started receiving news from the regular world.

The event was so large and mind boggling that it was still mentioned on occasion, in addition to having a special day set aside in America where they remembered the attack every year on its anniversary. Some other countries would also mention it.

Harry had to research the event online to find out the facts about it. For something this devastating to happen to the world but remain unknown to Wizarding society was completely unacceptable. No longer should the wizarding world live in blissful ignorance while the world is threatened.

So many powerful people were popping up all over the place and helping where needed. There was worry that something even more dangerous was headed Earth's way.

Magic users had a power that could be formidable against those who would threaten their existence. Earth is home to all humans, including wizards and witches. It was time the wizarding world took part in defending it.

Who better than himself to lend a hand?

Harry supposed that if he kept his eyes open, he might find a situation where he was needed. In order to do that he would have to get out of the manor more often though. He could always turn himself invisible and fly around looking for where he could help.

If the news reported something happening right then he could always help there too. However, he would have to setup some extra screens so he could get the news from all over the world to make sure he didn't miss anything.

For now, he could use his invisibility to keep his identity safe but at some point, Harry thought he would need a disguise of some sort. He could use human transfiguration but he wasn't sure that was the best choice. Perhaps just obscuring his face would work? A hood with an enchantment and runes on it so it didn't constantly need his own magic to sustain it might do the trick. Something to ponder and decide on for later.

Wait a second.

Was he really considering this?

Well, it might be fun. Better than staying here and being bored, he thought. It's not as if it would take all of his time, it would just be part time. He could still take care of any Potter business that popped up, if Teddy needed his help that is. Teddy was very serious about Victoire Weasley but he never let that interfere with his job responsibilities. Best godson and employee ever!

That was probably why Harry was so bored. Teddy pretty much took care of everything for him leaving him with little to do.

How was he going to explain this to Ginny, though?

Maybe he should just start helping to get his feet wet and he can explain it when the conversation came up. No point in discussing it until he knew for sure what and for how long he would do this. Best to try it out first.

Who knows?

He may not like it.

With a flash, Harry was gone.

He had just caught the news flash from America that someone had blown a large hole in the Hoover Dam and the floodwaters were pouring out, possibly threatening lives. Given the Hoover Dam was 45 feet wide at its narrowest (top) and 660 feet at the thickest (base), someone must have planned this out well. The hole was not that large compared to the rest of the dam but as more water pushed through, the hole increased in size and the dam was being damaged further.

Luckily, the water had not spread out enough to reach Boulder City, the closest heavily populated area. It was mainly spilling out of the banks of the river, making it much wider than it was supposed to be, carrying too much water down river, which would lead to disaster eventually. Some innocent bystanders could be hurt already. Workers at the dam could be in big trouble.

This looked like a perfect situation for Harry to help out on, especially given his elemental powers. Harry turned himself invisible and flashed to the location he saw on the news, using his phoenix powers. He appeared just above the dam, still invisible. He was in his disguise so he dropped the invisibility as soon as his wind element had him flying after he arrived.

Harry, after a lot of work with his phoenix animagus, was now able to use the flash by fire without actually transforming. He was able to remember the feel of the magic of the phoenix while still in human form and eventually learned how to flash with it.

Taking stock of the situation he saw the hole in the dam and water was pouring through it, pounding on the base of it below, and continuing on to flood the countryside. With a little concentration, Harry used his water element to grab the water and force it back through the hole. This took a bit of time since there was a massive amount of water and the pressure of it flowing through the hole was powerful.

Harry just concentrated more and the water began going the other way. News crews had spotted the hooded man that seemed to appear in midair out of nowhere. The helicopters they were in were keeping cameras on him the whole time. The helicopters were even circling Harry getting camera shots of him from all angles.

No one recognized the new super so they were very curious about who the new guy was. They certainly couldn't believe what they were seeing. He appeared to be controlling the water.

After a while when the escaped water was all back on the side it belonged Harry pushed it back further away from the dam then had it stay there like a barrier was holding the water in place.

After that was done, Harry turned to the dam and flew through the hole. He began casting repairing charms and drying charms inside the dam and verifying all was back to normal. He checked for any injured inside the dam.

They were two people that didn't quite make it to safety but were still alive. Harry quickly healed them and helped them get going again so they could get to safety. He then returned to the task at hand.

When done with repairs, he flew back out of the hole on the Lake Meade side, cast a large wandless Reparo on it, and watched as it was magically fixed. The news crews also watched in fascination, capturing the whole thing on video. Harry did this on both sides of the dam until he was satisfied that it was good as new. Next, he cast unbreakable charms on the whole structure to prevent it from being damaged again if whatever did this returned and tried again.

He released the water now that the dam was fixed then turned down stream to all the damage done by the water. Harry cast strong repairing charms all over the place as he looked for any more injured. There was a good bit of damage from the water before he could stop it.

He came upon a group of people a good way down river, who were evidently distraught. They were gathered around what looked like a person that someone was trying to help.

As Harry drew nearer, he could see that it was a child who was hurt. He quickly approached the crowd.

"I may be able to help if you let me through," Harry offered in his deep, disguised voice. His hood obscured his face.

"Let him through," someone yelled.

They quickly all moved out of Harry's way. There was a man trying to give the girl mouth to mouth and CPR. Harry walked up and knelt beside the little girl, placing his hand on her chest when the man went back to mouth-to-mouth. He stopped and just looked at Harry when he saw him with his hand on the girl's chest. There was a pure white light glowing underneath his hand.

The people gathered around were just staring in wonder.

"What's her name?" Harry asked calmly.

It took a moment for anyone to respond since they were all in shock. Suddenly a woman spoke up who was likely her mother.

"K-K-Kimberly," she said tearfully.

"How old is she?" Harry asked calmly again.

"S-Seven. Is she going to be alright?" she asked tearfully.

"Yes. She'll be just fine. I'm almost done here and she should wake up in just a moment."

"Do I need to continue?" asked the man who had been giving CPR and mouth to mouth.

"No, but thank you. You have done a marvelous job of keeping her alive. You should be commended," Harry said with a smile that was only faintly seen through the obscured features.

He removed his hand from the little girl's chest and waved his hand over her clothes and hair, instantly drying them. She began to stir and opened her eyes. There were gasps of astonishment around Harry as he watched the little girl carefully.

"What happened?" she asked looking up into Harry's obscured face with a frown.

"Hi, Kimberly. You had a bit of an accident but I was able to fix you right up and that man right there," Harry pointed to the man who gave first aid, "saved your life until I could get here and help."

"Thank you," she said quietly looking over at the man.

"You're welcome, Kimberly," he replied back to her.

"Do you think you could stand up now?" asked Harry. "I believe there are a few people here who are anxious to talk to you."

"Sure."

"Here, let me help you," Harry said holding out his hand.

She grabbed his gloved hand and slowly stood up. Harry was still on his knees so was about even height with the girl once she was standing. She looked at him carefully.

"You look like one of those super heroes," she said.

"I do?"

"What's your name?"

"Legend."

"That's a cool name."

"Thank you."

"Where did all that water come from?" she asked.

"The dam was broken so I had to fix it before I arrived here to help you."

"You fixed me when I was hurt?"

"I sure did. I couldn't help myself when I saw how pretty a little girl you are."

Kimberly suddenly grabbed Harry in a hug.

"Thank you, Legend, for helping me. I'll never forget it."

"You're welcome Kimberly. Now go say hello to those people over there."

She let go of Legend and turned to see the ones he mentioned.

"MOMMY! DADDY!" she yelled running to her parents. "Did you see him? What he did? He fixed me."

She jumped into her mom's arms. Her mom was crying and her dad was a bit misty himself.

"Yes, we did sweetheart. He was amazing," her dad answered.

"Why are you crying, Mommy?"

"Sorry. I was just so worried about you but that man… he… he did something and… now… you're all better."

"His name's Legend and he's my hero, Mommy."

Her parents both looked at each other. They then responded together as they both hugged her. "Ours too."

As they were hugging, they felt their hair and clothes suddenly become dry. Everyone who was wet felt it at the same time. All they saw was a single wave of Legend's hand when it happened.

"I need to check for any more issues or injuries. The dam is fixed but you folks be careful. Whoever blew it up may come back."

"We will. Thank you for everything," responded Kimberly's father.

"It was my pleasure."

With a nod, Harry flew off to tend to business. This left the group of people looking up in amazement. It was rare to be able to meet a super hero and it looked like they just met one they hadn't heard of before. What he could do was simply remarkable though.

After Harry left to finish repairs and look for any additional injuries, the news crews showed up and started their investigation. The crowd could hardly get on with their business before they were inundated with questions. Kimberly was particularly excited to talk about her new hero. It was Legend this and Legend that. It was as if Harry had his own spokesperson.

Soon the news was filled with video clips of the event. They showed Legend appearing out of thin air and start controlling the water, forcing it to go back through the hole and into Lake Meade. They showed the dam being repaired magically and the interviews with the people he helped. The internet news feeds across the world picked up the story and the video coverage. Soon what Harry did as Legend was being shown everywhere.

Nick Fury was the most interested in what was playing on the news.

It was all they were talking about, the new super hero called Legend. Who was this Legend, he asked himself, and why had they not been able to track him down? Where does this guy live? He was frustrated that so far no one could find out where this new guy came from. His crew had the best technology at their fingertips and access to all the data records of everyone on the planet but for some reason no one could figure out who this new guy was.

He just appeared out of nowhere.

You could also forget about trying to follow him. When he was done, he disappeared just as fast. He was gone in the blink of an eye.

The man was a mystery and if there was one thing Nick Fury didn't like, it was a mystery. On top of that, he had an itch under his eye patch.

He was not happy.

"I want some answers about this Legend and I want it yesterday. Somebody has to know something about him. He can't have just appeared out of thin air for the first time the other day. He had to have come from somewhere. Now get. me. answers!"

"We're trying boss. We really are, but so far… nothing," replied Maria Hill, his second in command. "However, I assure you we will keep looking until we do find something."

"Let me know as soon as you do. I'll be in my office," he said as he stormed off.

Meanwhile, back at Potter Place Harry was thinking that his first adventure wasn't so bad. He fixed everything, introduced himself, and he left. Granted, his other self was shown all over the news the past few days, but that wasn't so bad. No one will know who he really is. He could continue to help and maintain his privacy. How long until the powers that be will want a chat though? He decided he would keep an eye out for others on his escapades.

Harry continued to show up in various places as Legend helping people in need, subduing those causing harm, etc. He had increased his news feeds and even setup a special room in the manor for all the screens, the feeds, the computer equipment, etc. He made duplicates of his costume just in case. He also made some design changes on some just to try a few things and make them slightly different, using different colors in some places.

The main body of his costume was mostly a black and dark grey tone and made out of dragon hide. This included his shirt, pants, and boots. The signature feature of his costume though was the hooded cape. It was made completely out of basilisk hide and sported a deep red and gold trim. All of the costume pieces were reinforced with magic for both durability and protection.

The hood had runes on the inside and outside of it. It was also enchanted with magic. Every time Harry covered his head with it his face would be obscured and appear in shadow. His voice was also changed so that it was deeper and had no accent whatsoever. It also used special runes so that anyone he was talking to heard what he said in their own language as well as what he heard was translated for him.

On the outside of the hooded cloak, more runes were added all over it. Many protections were placed on the garment to make it unbreakable, impervious, fireproof, lightning proof, and a host of other things. The cloak also protected him from the wind when he flew at incredible speeds. Occasionally the runes would glow when Harry performed a lot of magic. His other clothes had similar charms added via runes including enhanced strength and speed. With his kicks and punches enhanced with magic, it made him several times stronger and faster than normal.

He was counting on keeping this a secret a little while longer from his wife. She rarely used technology even today. She grew up magical and was accustomed to that way of life. She wasn't ignorant of the technology; it was too prevalent in their household for years now with the kids using it constantly. She just preferred not to use it that often unless it was necessary. She never used it for the news or to search the internet.

Harry thought he would be safe for a while longer.

"HARRY JAMES POTTER! WHAT HAVE YOU BEEN UP TO?" Ginny asked rather loudly when she came home after work a couple of weeks later. Evidently, a few at the paper who did use technology regularly, had saw all the coverage about the new super-hero and brought it up at work to see if anyone knew more about him.

If there was one thing Ginny knew, it was her husband, Harry Potter. She had been watching him since she was a little girl, all through school, dating, kids, and now several years of marriage. She knew his mannerisms, how he walked and carried himself. She knew all his extra powers. She basically knew everything about him …until now, of course.

When she saw the video footage on the internet at work, she knew exactly who that was and she didn't need the name Legend to give it away. She didn't tell anyone of course. She knew better than to do that. Harry was in disguise helping those in need and saving people has always been what he does best.

That did not mean he wasn't in trouble for keeping a secret from her however.

She found him in his tech room surrounded by satellite images of places all over the planet. The images changed periodically. The images were shown on large monitors attached to the walls, while other smaller monitors showed news feeds from all over the world. Computers were constantly humming in the room. If this wasn't confirmation of his exploits, she didn't know what else would do it. She placed her wand in the holder just outside the door before entering the warded room. He never heard her yelling since he had headphones on listening to something very intently.

When she entered the room, Harry pushed the space bar on his keyboard to pause the video, took his headphones off and turned in his chair to greet his wife. He felt her magical presence as soon as she walked past the ward on the door. He smiled when he saw her.

"You're in trouble, husband," she said with a twitch of her lips. She was trying not to smile back at him.

"What have I done this time?" he asked.

"You know exactly what you've done. You're keeping secrets," she said as she finished walking right up to him, standing in front of his chair with her hands on her hips and trying to look serious.

Harry grabbed her and sat her down on his lap, wrapping his arms around her, and holding her to him.

"Why don't you tell me all about it," he said softly in her ear.

She couldn't help but smile this time as he held her in his arms and nuzzled her hair and neck.

"Legend? Really?" she asked.

"How did you find out?" he asked playfully.

"At work. I may not pay much attention to the outside news since all I write about is a magical sport, but a few at the office do. They brought it up and showed the rest of us the news coverage of you saving the day on several occasions. I especially liked the one where the terrorists were videotaping the beheading of that poor news reporter. They would have succeeded too had you not showed up right behind the reporter and on camera with him. Then you transfigured the guy's blade into cotton candy before he could kill the reporter. The look on that terrorist's face was priceless!" she said while laughing.

"You know, I didn't count on your co-workers showing you that."

"Why would you keep it a secret from me?" she asked seriously.

"Because it sounds a bit silly in my head being a 'super-hero,'" he said with air quotes. "Besides, I wasn't sure how long I would do it, or even if I would enjoy it."

"Do you? Enjoy it, I mean?"

"Yes, but not as much as this," he said kissing her neck.

"So, when were you going to tell me?" she asked ignoring his kisses the best she could.

"I was going to try it for a month then see if I wanted to continue. If I did then I was going to share my embarrassing secret with you," he said after he stopped kissing her.

"What's it been? Two weeks now?"

"Yes. Just about two weeks."

"So, two more weeks before you decide?"

"Yes."

She knew he was getting bored since the kids were all away from home now. Teddy was simply too efficient. Given all of Harry's abilities, she knew this would be right down his ally. She had complete faith in him to protect himself and others. He was Harry Potter, after all, and he was good at it.

"Very well. Now who said you could stop kissing me?"

Harry grabbed her and stood up. He then lowered her to the floor so she could stand on her own two feet. She turned to him and put her arms around his neck. He put his around her lower back then squeezed her bum with both hands.

"I think this super-hero is trying to start something," she said looking up into his eyes.

"What makes you say that?" he asked with a grin.

"Oh, just a feeling I have."

Ginny grabbed his hand then turned toward the door, leading him out. He followed along with her.

"Come on. I need to get out of my work clothes and you can help me with that."

"It would be my pleasure, Mrs. Potter," he said with a smile.

"Then I want you to put on your costume, just for me."

Harry stumbled a little after hearing that, but a big smile spread over his face immediately afterwards.
