JJ and Emily both received a call from Hotch about three hours after falling asleep saying that they had a case. JJ groaned because she was extremely tired. Emily was used to not sleeping, so she was fine. They both got around and headed into the BAU with their go bag. Once there, JJ couldn't really focus when they were going over the case in the conference room. She was more focused on Emily. She began noticing just how beautiful Emily was. Emily's hair was wavy, which JJ secretly loved. "Wheels up in 30." Hotch said, which brought JJ out of her daydream. "JJ, can you stay behind for a bit?" he asked. JJ nodded her head and stayed in her seat. Once everyone was out, he began to speak. "I noticed you were spaced out. Is everything okay?" he asked.
"Yeah. I just didn't get much sleep, so I'm just tired." JJ answered. She didn't technically lie to him.
"Okay. Well I will let you get some coffee before getting on the jet. You'll definitely need it." he said. JJ nodded and walked over to the coffee machine and made herself an iced coffee using her reusable cold cup. After doing so, she decided to just get on the jet. However, she was met with Emily sitting in a seat and going over the case file.
"Hey." JJ said softly. Emily looked up from the file and smiled.
"Hey! Do you want to sit by me?" Emily asked. JJ nodded her head and took a seat next to her. "You look extremely tired." Emily pointed out.
"I am. Three-ish hours of sleep just isn't enough for me." JJ said.
"How about after we debrief about the case, you take a nap until we get to San Mateo." Emily suggested.
"Where the hell is that?" JJ asked.
"It's in- wait, were you not listening to our discussion in the briefing room?" Emily asked.
"Not really. I was a little spaced out because I'm really tired. And because you're really distracting by being so beautiful." JJ said. This caused Emily to blush.
"Well you look amazing for being really tired. But San Mateo is in California, so you have about four and a half hours after we get done debriefing." Emily said. JJ nodded and started dozing off until she heard Derek speaking and walking onto the jet with Reid. It was a long journey to San Mateo, but they made it. JJ did end up sleeping the rest of the way. When they got to the station, Hotch had JJ stay behind to help him talk to the victims' families. Emily and Derek went to the crime scenes, and Rossi and Reid went to the morgue. It was a long day of getting more information, but unfortunately the unsub began escalating things. It had been nearly 20 hours since the team had gotten any rest at that point, so Hotch told everyone to go to the hotel to get some sleep so they are rejuvenated for the next day. JJ and Emily were sharing a room, which wasn't uncommon for them.
"I could sleep for about a week." Emily said.
"Same here. I feel more tired than when I went to sleep yesterday." JJ said.
"Well I'm going to take a shower. Do you need to use the bathroom or anything?" Emily asked JJ.
"No I should be good." JJ said. Emily nodded and grabbed her things for the shower. She went into the bathroom and shut the door. As JJ was trying to find something to watch on the TV, her phone starts ringing. It was Will. JJ went out onto the balcony in case Emily could hear the conversation.
"How's the case going?" he asked.
"We have a possible lead, but nothing too promising." JJ answered. JJ looked down and shed a tear. "I don't know how much longer I can lie to her, Will. She has a beautiful heart, and I don't want to be the one that ruins it. She deserves someone who actually likes her." JJ said.
"It sounds to me that you are starting to like her after the one date." Will said.
"Only as a friend." JJ said.
"Aren't you the one that tried to kiss her?" he asked.
"That was an in-the-moment kind of thing." JJ said.
"Whatever you say. Look, if you really don't want to do this, I'm not going to make you be in a fake relationship with her. My point is already proven." he said.
"No, I'm too invested now." JJ said.
"JJ, you need to make up your mind. Do you or don't you want to keep a fake relationship going or not? You seem guilty about it, so why not just tell her the truth? Unless you actually want to be with her, and that's why you want to keep it going."
"I don't know why, okay? I just don't want to shatter her heart." JJ said.
"You're going to shatter her heart either way. I have to go. I'll talk to you whenever." he said and hung up the phone. JJ sighed knowing that Will was right. She was going to shatter Emily's heart regardless. JJ just needed to talk about this whole situation with someone. After standing outside for about five more minutes she decided to go back in. After flipping through the channels, she decided to watch a show called 'All American'. She had no idea what was going on, but it was interesting.
"What did you decide to watch?" Emily asked, stepping out of the bathroom with her pajamas on and wet hair.
"Just some show." JJ said.
"Oh I love this show! It's called 'All American'. Laura Baker, or the blonde you will see in the next few minutes, is so pretty." Emily said. Hearing Emily say that made JJ jealous. Like really jealous. It shouldn't have since she only sees Emily as a friend, right?
"I'm going to take a shower now. I will be back." JJ said, getting up and taking the things she needed for her shower and everything. As she was rinsing out the shampoo, she started thinking about how she reacted to Emily saying some other woman was really pretty. "Maybe I am starting to fall for her." JJ whispered.
After JJ was done, she got out of the shower and did her night routine before going to her bed since there were two beds. "Good night Jayje." Emily said.
"Night Em." JJ said. JJ tried to sleep, but she just couldn't. She tried for an hour to fall asleep, but it was impossible. "Em, are you still awake?" JJ asked in a quiet voice.
"Yeah. Just deep in thought. Why, what's up?" Emily asked.
"I can't sleep. The case is really freaking me out." JJ said. She wasn't lying. It was freaking her out, but she left out the part the she wanted to cuddle with Emily.
"You can sleep over here if you want to." Emily said. JJ got up and slid under the blankets next to Emily. Emily opened her arms, and JJ happily snuggled right up against her. JJ's head was resting on Emily's chest, her arm wrapped around Emily's torso, and her left leg in between Emily's. "Was this all a plan just so you could snuggle up to me?" Emily asked with amusement.
"Maybe. But the case is freaking me out a little." JJ said.
"Same here. But you don't have to worry because I will do whatever it takes to protect you. And don't worry about me because I have Derek who will drop kick anyone if they even breathe wrongly near me." Emily said. This cause JJ to chuckle.
"He is protective." JJ said. Emily started rubbing JJ's side subconsciously which started putting JJ to sleep. "Good night Emmy." JJ said sleepily with a yawn at the end.
"Good night Jayje." Emily said. Emily kissed the top of JJ's head before falling asleep. Six short hours later, it was time to head back into the station. Before JJ and Emily left their room, JJ noticed something strapped around Emily's thigh.
"What's that?" JJ asked as she stared at it.
"Oh! It's my new tactical gun holster. I figured I would try something new. It just came in a few days ago." Emily said excitedly.
"Nice." JJ said, still staring at it. She may or may not find it incredibly hot when someone uses those holsters.
"Why? Does it look bad?" Emily asked, now feeling self-conscious.
"No! I like it. You should definitely keep using it." JJ said, finally looking up at Emily. Emily smiled before saying they should get to the station. Emily led the way out, and the entire time, JJ couldn't stop staring at Emily's right thigh, biting her lip. She didn't know why she had a thing for tactical thigh holsters, but she did. After a few minutes of imagining Emily in a completely new outfit and something new wrapped around her thighs, she was brought out of her daydream by the elevator dinging. It was going to be a long day for JJ.
