It was a long three days for the team, but they ended up catching the unsub. Now they were finally back to Washington D.C.. "Since we will be back in the early morning of Saturday, are you still going to play at Giovanni's?" JJ asked Emily in a hushed voice.
"Probably. I'm just really nervous since I haven't played in front of an audience in so long, an I have no idea what to play." Emily said.
"Have you started thinking about what you're going to play?" JJ asked.
"Yeah, but the pieces I want to play are a little too fast pace for an upscale restaurant." Emily answered.
"Why don't you just improv? Play something classy yet jazzy at the same time." JJ suggested.
"That's actually not a bad idea." Emily said. The rest of the plane ride home, most of the team slept except for JJ. She had gotten used to cuddling Emily before she went to sleep, but now that they are with the team, it would seem inappropriate to do. Plus everyone would start questioning, and she wasn't ready for all of that. So, her next best thing she had in mind was to get as comfortable as she could with the blanket she had and try to sleep. She just couldn't, so she looked out the window watched the dark sky go by. Then she found herself looking at Emily and just watched her sleep. Not in a creepy way, but just memorizing her breathing patterns and features more. She felt at home when she looked at Emily. She really wanted to sit next to her and at least hold her hand, but Reid was in the seat next to her already.
When they arrived back in D.C., everyone stepped off the jet and went to their cars. "Did you still want to do something before you played tonight, or did you just want to get some sleep?" JJ asked Emily.
"We can still do something. Five hours of sleep is actually plenty for me, but it wouldn't hurt if I got a little more. It's six o'clock right now, so we could do something around one or two if that works for you." Emily suggested.
"That works for me. What would you like to do?" JJ asked.
"It's completely up to you." Emily said. JJ smiled and looked around to see if anyone was around them, but no one was. So, JJ leaned up a little bit and kissed Emily on the cheek.
"I'll see you around one." JJ said. Emily blushed and nodded her head. They went to their cars and went their separate ways. When JJ got home, Will was awake and in the kitchen eating breakfast with Henry.
"Momma!" Henry shouted and ran to JJ.
"Hey buddy!" JJ said and kneeled down to hug him up. After a long hug she stood back up and placed him on her hip. She then walked towards the kitchen island where the seats were and sat down.
"Would you like something to eat?" Will asked.
"I'm not really that hungry. I'm just tired." JJ said.
"Okay. Well you go get some rest. I'm going to take Henry out to the park in a couple hours, so if you wake up then, that's where we will be." Will told her.
"Okay." JJ said. Will walked to her and kissed her. JJ felt weird kissing him. It felt wrong to her. But she brushed it off and went to their room. She changed into pajamas but couldn't go to sleep regardless of how tired she was.
'Call me? Xx'
She sent the message to Emily, and shortly after sending it, Emily was calling her. "You wanted me to call." Emily said.
"I just needed to hear your voice. It helps me sleep." JJ said.
"Should I be offended by that?" Emily asked with a little chuckle.
"No! Not at all. I just mean that it's so soothing. I'm finding myself not being able to sleep unless I'm either in bed cuddling with you, or I call and talk to you when you're not around." JJ said.
"Aw that's actually kind of cute." Emily said, which made JJ blush. They carried on a conversation for about half an hour before JJ was able to fall asleep. What JJ didn't know was that Will was standing outside the doorway and listened to a little bit of their conversation. He sighed before walking away to Henry's room to get his clothes before he gave him a bath.
JJ woke up around 11 o'clock. She heard talking, so she figured Will and Henry were back from the park. She did her usual morning routine and took a shower before heading downstairs to get something to eat. "Where's Henry?" JJ asked.
"I put him down for a nap. Can I ask you a question?" he asked. JJ looked at him hesitantly.
"Sure?" she asked.
"Are you actually starting to fall for Emily?"
"You know that I'm continuing this, so, therefore, I have to keep up the act of being in to her." JJ said.
"I know, but the way you were talking to her this morning before you went to sleep. It just sounded genuine." he said.
"Will, would you stop being so insecure about yourself? You're the one who dared me to do this. I'm doing it, and now you're worried that I'm falling in love with her?" JJ said, starting to get defensive. Though, she knew he was right.
"I don't get why you're being so defensive right now. But I told you that if you don't want to follow through with it, then you can just tell her the truth and be done." Will said.
"I know you did, but that has nothing to do with what we are discussing right now. If I wanted to tell her the truth, then I would have. But I'm not going to because I don't quit on dares. I follow through with them." JJ said.
"How long do you plan on keeping this act up?" WIll asked.
"You said you would give us three months, so I plan on it being three months." JJ said. "No if you'll excuse me, I have a date with Emily to get ready for." JJ said. As she was walking away, she heard Will mumble something under his breath. "What was that?" JJ asked.
"I said of course you do. We haven't seen each other in three days, and the first thing you do after some sleep is go on a date with her?! How about spending some time with your real family instead of a fake girlfriend or whatever she is to you?" Will said.
"If you can't handle me being "in love" with my best friend that you DARED me to ask out, then maybe would SHOULD get a divorce. You know, the other lie that you told me to tell her." JJ said and walked away. Will stood there stunned and started to regret telling her this dare. JJ spent the two hours she had getting ready and getting everything she needed for their date. She had a bunch of fun activities she wanted to do before she played at Giovanni's. Once she was ready, she packed everything up in her car and texted Emily that she was on her way to her apartment. The entire way to her apartment, she was getting to be really nervous even though they've been on a date prior to this one. When she arrived, she went up to Emily's apartment and knocked. Emily opened the door, and she was wearing a red, long sleeved top that looked to be a cross wrap, and it was a v-neck. She paried it with a pair of skinny jeans and a pair of nude stilettos. Emily in red plus a v-neck equals quite a distraction for JJ.
"I didn't really know what to wear, so I just kinda put something together." Emily said. Emily noticed JJ staring, and not at her face. "Jayje, my eyes are up here." Emily said in amusement. JJ's eyes shot up immediately.
"Oh. Right. Sorry. Uh, you look amazing." JJ said, blushing. She then noticed Emily's hair was wavy again.
"So what are we doing?" Emily asked, shutting and locking her front door.
"That's for you to find out in a little bit. I have a lot of fun things we can do." JJ said. They went out to her car, and JJ drove to a park. She grabbed the picnic basket, blanket, two pillows, and a board of some sort. Emily helped carry some of the things since JJ couldn't carry all of it.
"I'm assuming that we are having a picnic?" Emily asked.
"How did you guess it?" JJ asked.
"I don't know. I mean, the board kind of gave it away." Emily said, which caused JJ to laugh.
"I didn't really eat, so this is just me wanting food. But, in a cute way." JJ said. She found the perfect spot that was away from everyone else and in the shade. She laid everything out and put together the charcuterie board before they sat down. They began eating, and JJ thought she would be cute and feed Emily a chocolate covered strawberry. However, before she did, she noticed frosting on Emily's nose from the cupcake she had eaten. This caused JJ to laugh.
"What?" Emily asked.
"You have frosting on your nose!" JJ said through her laughter. With this information, Emily joined JJ in laughing. "Let me get it." JJ said. She took a napkin and started wiping off the frosting. As she did, she started looking into Emily's eyes. Her movement slowed down before saying, "Be my girlfriend.". This took Emily off guard.
"Huh?" Emily asked.
"I've like you for a really long time, and now that Will and I are divorcing, I want you to be mine. So, Emily Prentiss, will you be my girlfriend?" JJ asked.
"Yes!" Emily said with the biggest smile. JJ smiled along with her and gave her the biggest hug. "You don't think it's too soon?" Emily asked, pulling away from the hug.
"Not at all. Will and I agreed that we can date other people even though the divorce isn't finalized. It'd be different if we just met." JJ said. Emily smiled and gave JJ another hug. After a few seconds, they pulled away. JJ finally fed Emily her chocolate covered strawberry. After their little picnic, they went to the roller skating rink, went to a place that had mini golf, a driving range, petting zoo, and great ice cream. To finish off their date, they went horseback riding.
"I will see you at the restaurant?" Emily asked.
"I wouldn't miss it." JJ said. Emily smiled and said goodbye. She kissed JJ on the cheek and left. JJ went home and changed into her dress. It was a short, champagne colored dress with a cowl. She put her hair in a bun with a few pieces left out in the front. She did her makeup and put on her heels. She grabbed her purse and left with briefly telling Will where she was going. JJ made sure she sat as close to the piano as she could. She ordered her food, and soon Emily walked to the piano. She was wearing a red dress, and she looked absolutely stunning in it. She looked really nervous, but she saw JJ in the audience and smiled. Suddenly all of her nerves disappeared. She began playing, and JJ was just in a trance while watching Emily play. She was brought out of it when she heard someone speak. It was Rossi.
"So when were you two a couple? When did you and Will split up?" he asked, taking the seat that was across from her.
"I-I don't know what you're talking about." JJ said, looking down at the table.
"Come on. Don't think I didn't see Emily smile at you before she started playing. Plus I saw the smile and sparkle in your eyes just before I started talking to you. You're sitting as close to her as you could get. You're in her line of sight. So when did it happen?" he asked.
"Recently. Literally the day before our last case. But it just became official today. Will and I aren't officially divorced, but we agreed to start dating again." JJ said.
"I didn't even realize you liked her. I knew she liked you." he said.
"You did?" JJ asked.
"You could tell just by the way she looked at you. Now when did you start liking her?" he asked.
"I don't know. It kinda just... happened." JJ said.
"Okay. Well, I'm going to sit with the rest of the team. I will leave you so you can share this moment with your girlfriend." he said, getting up from the chair. JJ's eyes widened and looked to where he was walking. She then saw the team sitting at a round table. They all waved at her. She smiled and waved back before turning back towards Emily. She wondered how they knew they were going to be there at that exact time. But she then shifted her focus on Emily and soon forgot about them.
