A/N: I was getting a lot of story ideas during this time with not a lot of inspiration for what happens after the setup. This is one of them where I used the prophecy to make him immortal and super powerful. I always try to write down my new story ideas whether they come to completion or not. I have failed to do that before and the idea left me never to return.

The Immortal Harry Potter
by Roff

CHAPTER ONE

Harry had been going over the prophecy constantly in his head since Dumbledore shared it with him at the end of his fifth year at Hogwarts. There was something in the wording that had him concerned that the headmaster was not seeing the entire picture. Yet, the teenager could not quite put his finger on it.

The two had discussed it many times over the course of Harry's sixth year before Dumbledore was killed. Dumbledore even had to grudgingly admit that Harry was correct in thinking the prophecy meant he was the only one that could kill Voldemort, therefore Voldemort was the only one that could kill Harry.

However, Dumbledore never mentioned that he believed it could go even further than that. In fact, he once told Harry that if things went wrong and Voldemort managed to kill Harry, then the prophecy would be fulfilled and anyone would be able to kill the dark lord at that point.

Both Ron and Hermione had no new ideas to share about it either. They both believed Dumbledore was right. He was a very intelligent person, well respected, and saw that he had 16 years to study it so reasoned that was likely all there was to it.

It had been two years now since he heard the prophecy for the first time and Harry had finally come to a conclusion. This conclusion was reached right after he killed Voldemort. There was a very strong, magically powerful feeling that went through his entire body when the dark lord died from his own killing curse.

The dark lord's magic was then sent to Harry, doubling his power. Both Harry and Voldemort had immense power compared to other wizards and witches. The only one that was close to their power was Dumbledore when he was alive. The two combatants were actually equal in power, although not in magical knowledge. Voldemort was around 50 years ahead of Harry in that regard.

The feeling was amazing. It was not just magical either. No, his physical body was rejuvenated too. It was like his entire body was given extra strength all of a sudden.

This was saying something, especially since he had been going strong for months and hadn't slept in three days. Amazingly, he no longer felt tired. His body was boosted up to a level he had never felt or experienced before. His magic was practically singing as it flowed through the blood in his veins.

Sure he had caught the Elder wand when it flew toward him from Voldemort's hand and he had possession of the other two Deathly Hallows at that time. However, there was no doubt in any logical person's mind that being the master of death did not mean becoming an all-powerful being who even the god of death had to bow down to.

Besides, those ideas were from a children's story that was based off of Harry's ancestors, the three Peverell brothers. They were the ones who created those three amazing artifacts, not Death. It didn't mean you couldn't die, it simply meant everyone dies so you should not be afraid of dying when your time came. This was meant to teach a lesson like many basic concepts found in children's stories.

Harry looked around at all the people celebrating his victory. They all looked tired after the long battle while Harry felt all kinds of energy. His clothes looked terrible and filthy. Even his face was dirty. But inside he was feeling charged up and ready for anything.

It felt like something was quickly going through every cell of his body and rejuvenating it. Harry just stood there relishing the feeling as it washed over him. He thought it over carefully.

Then it just seemed to click into place what the other part of the prophecy likely meant, the one part that kept eluding him for the past two years. It was the one part Dumbledore refused to even think could be possible.

It was the part of the prophecy that said "…And either must die at the hand of the other for neither can live while the other survives…." That was the sticking point. Actually it was the second part in particular that the interpretation was missed entirely.

The first part of the sentence meant that they could only kill each other. No one else could kill them so one of them would die when they fought each other that final time, allowing the other to live. It's the word 'live' in that second part of the sentence in the prophecy that had not been interpreted correctly from the beginning.

Perhaps that was why Voldemort was so singularly focused on killing Harry. Did he know at an instinctual level that his goal to never die could only be achieved when he killed Harry Potter? Did he reach that understanding after his defeat in 1981 when Harry was just a baby? Did he come to that conclusion during the thirteen years he was forced to be a wraith because his body was destroyed?

His first act to regain a body involved using Harry's blood and attempting to kill the young teenager at the end of Harry's fourth year. He would not settle for anyone else to be used in that dark ritual. It had to be Harry so he could kill the boy. When he failed, he spent the rest of his time trying to accomplish that one goal.

He nearly killed Harry at the end of the boy's fifth year, but Dumbledore came to his rescue and fought the dark lord for him. When Voldemort couldn't best the old headmaster in a duel, he chose to possess Harry instead. However, Harry once again found inner strength to repel him.

Dumbledore was killed at the end of Harry's sixth year after they came back to the school from a failed horcrux hunt. Harry, along with his friends Ron and Hermione, spent their seventh year looking for all the remaining horcruxes until they found and destroyed them.

However, it was Neville who destroyed the final horcrux when he killed Nagini, Voldemort's snake, using the sword of Godric Gryffindor.

This paved the way for Harry to face Voldemort for the final time. With all of the dark lord's horcruxes destroyed he had become mortal again. Harry could now kill him and he would die this time instead of becoming a wraith until he could regain a new body.

What Harry did not know before he fought the dark lord that final time was what would happen when one of them died by the other's hand during the fight. Had Voldemort won by killing Harry then he would have achieved immortality as he always wanted, regardless that all of his anchors to this worldly plane had been destroyed.

But since Harry won and killed Voldemort, he was the one that was able to truly live. The word 'live' in the prophecy along with the part that only they could kill the other, made the one remaining unable to die because no one else would ever be able to kill them.

It mattered not that Voldemort was now dead and gone, the prophecy gave no limit to the point that he was the only one that could kill Harry. The fact that the dark lord died and would never be a threat anymore just guaranteed Harry would keep on living and still no one else would be able to kill him.

Harry Potter was now immortal.

Harry knew he needed time to come to grips with all of this so made plans to go off by himself as soon as he could get away. He would come back when he had a better handle on it and knew what he wanted to do.

As everyone went to get cleaned up and get some rest, Harry did too. He got his shower and climbed into his four poster bed in Gryffindor tower just like the others did. However, he spent his time thinking over what had happened to him.

It didn't take long for everyone to fall asleep since they were all so tired. Harry then got up, cast some charms on his entire body, masking his sound and scent. He wrote a note for Ron and Hermione then left it on his pillow.

Draping his amazing invisibility cloak over himself, Harry left the dorms, Gryffindor Tower, the castle, and the grounds. He passed many who were sleeping or working quietly to clean up the mess from the battle.

Some were moving the dead bodies into rooms with stasis charms applied. They would be out of the way and could wait until everyone was ready to deal with them. Harry was sad that he had many friends who died in the battle but he also knew that he had to take care of himself first.

This would be a major change in his life and he had many things to think about and plan for. His first stop would be Gringotts to chat with his account manager and get some money for travelling.

He didn't know how long it would take before all this new energy would fade and he would have to rest, but he assumed since he hadn't slept for several days that he best get somewhere as soon as possible just in case it hit him all at once.

He felt he had enough time for Gringotts but then he would find a place to go for a rest.

Harry was worried about how the goblins would treat him when he arrived at the bank. After all, Hermione, Ron, and himself broke into the Lestrange vault to steal Hufflepuff's Chalice. They then escaped on the back of one of the bank's dragons that was used to guard some of the vaults, freeing the dragon in the process. The dragon ended up causing a lot of damage to the bank during the escape.

Harry was quite surprised when there was no reaction other than what was considered normal behavior by the goblins. They acted like nothing was amiss.

All of the Potter money was still there and all the Black money Harry inherited from his godfather was still there. As a matter of fact the Potter vault had considerably more money than the Black vault. This was quite unusual since the Black fortune tended to be around five times more than the Potter fortune most of the time.

They explained that the goblins and the bank were more than aware of what happened at Hogwarts. This included Harry's final defeat of Voldemort and the change that came over Harry's body when he killed the dark lord. They could also sense his power and that he was immortal as soon as he walked into the bank.

The extra money that was placed in the Potter vault came from vaults Harry Potter inherited through the rite of conquest.

All the previous owners of the vaults were now dead with no family members left to inherit. The biggest amount came from Slytherin's vault. It was being privately used by Voldemort to fund his war. Many of his followers donated money to him so he had quite a bit. He also had some rich purebloods who spent their own money on his behalf, leaving the Slytherin vault barely touched.

Harry was shocked to find he had so much and that it was still growing. He instructed his account managers to find good investments for most of that money and even invest in the non-magical markets to hopefully grow it even more.

But he also stipulated that they were to invest in the magical areas too, buying up any abandoned shops for sell and then offering help for businesses to get started to boost the magical economy. A sizeable investment was to be given to Weasley Wizard Wheezes so George could continue with the shop once he had stopped grieving so hard for Fred and went back to work.

When all that was settled and he had plenty of money and a credit card to take with him, Harry took a portkey he found in the Potter vault to his ancestral home in Wales. Kurlig, his Potter account manager, assured him that no one alive knows where to find the manor and lands. The ones that could possibly remember were no longer among the living. The place was very well hidden behind extremely powerful wards.

The last ones to live in the manor were Harry's grandparents, Fleamont and Euphemia Potter. His parents, James and Lily, took the house in Godric's Hollow once they were married. They never moved to the manor after Fleamont and Euphemia died of Dragon Pox in 1979. It was due to the birth of Harry coming up in a few months and the threat of Voldemort.

Also, the manor and lands were too big for the Fidelius so they stayed at the Godric's Hollow house.

When Harry arrived, he found the manor in good shape besides some dust. He immediately went to work on removing as much of the dust as he could while he did a quick tour and worked his way to the master bedroom. Once there he vigorously cleaned until the room was spotless and the ensuite bathroom was sparkling.

The power he had at his beck and call was amazing to behold even when using basic spells for cleaning. The towels and linens were in good shape so he cleaned them with magic too so they would be ready in the morning for him.

He took his broom, the Firebolt Sirius bought him, and flew over the lands to see what all was there. The Potter lands were quite extensive. He flew for a good while to clear his head and noted that dusk was settling around him. While flying high, he spotted the lights of a small town a few miles away so he flew that direction until he found a secluded place he could land.

He shrunk his broom and pocketed it, cast a glamour on his face, then sought out a place to eat. He found a quaint little pub down the road that served fish and chips so he entered the place to a few hellos. Harry in his disguise, waved back at them. People tended to be friendlier in small towns.

A plump waitress took his order so he filled up on fish and chips while drinking some tea. He asked if there was a local grocer nearby so he could pick up a few things. She pointed him to a store just three blocks down.

Once he ate and picked up some supplies, including some food he could cook for himself, Harry left the store, shrunk down the bags in an alley, and apparated back to the manor.

The kitchen was quite large but still a little dusty so Harry once more went to work. After he had the kitchen spotless and the small table in the alcove cleaned to a shine, he put up the food he bought and the supplies.

Once that was done, he realized how tired he was and he seemed to be fading fast. All that energy he was infused with seemed to have went away for now. The past months and the last few days with no sleep had finally caught up with him.

Harry readied himself for bed and crawled into one of the most comfortable beds he had ever slept in. He was positive magic was involved.

In less than a minute, he was sound asleep.

Ron and Hermione slept for close to 16 hours before they woke up. However, when Ron checked on Harry he found the bed empty with a note on the pillow. He picked it up and began to read.

Ron and Hermione,

I'm sorry to do this to you but I had to get away for a while. Something happened to me when Voldemort died. I believe it had something to do with the prophecy. I just need time to sort it all out.

I'll likely do some travelling and take a vacation during this time. Hopefully, when I return I'll be able to explain with clarity what exactly happened.

Please extend my love for the rest of the Weasleys and feel free to let them read this too if they want. I'm very sorry for the loss of Fred. I will miss him greatly. I so wish I could have somehow saved him.

Please don't show this note to anyone else or discuss it openly. I don't need any more publicity. In fact, destroy it as soon as you can. I don't trust the Daily Prophet or the Ministry.

All my love to you both! I never would have been able to accomplish what I did without you. You're the best friends any person could ever have.

Stay strong and I'll see you as soon as I can.

Harry

Ron wiped his eyes, folded the note back up, put it in his pocket, and went searching for Hermione. He found her in the common room with a few others.

"Did you get enough sleep, Ron?" she asked as he approached.

"I did. Did you?"

Hermione nodded and smiled.

"Have you seen any of my family?" he asked her.

"They all went to the Great Hall together. I told them I would wait for you."

"Thanks. Shall we join them then?"

"Should we wait for Harry?" she asked.

"No. He was already gone when I got up."

"Really? After everything he did and not sleeping for days I would think he needed more sleep. Let's go see if we can catch up with him," she said standing.

All the others seemed to be interested in going too now that they knew Harry was no longer in the tower. Ron decided he should say something.

"Hermione, I have something private I need to talk to you about so let's do that here while the others continue on to the Great Hall."

"Sure," she said then turned to the others. "We'll see you guys later then."

The couple let the others go then Ron grabbed Hermione's arm and pulled her over to a corner before casting a Notice-Me-Not spell and a privacy spell on the area. Hermione was wondering what was going on before Ron pulled out the note and handed it to her.

"I found this on Harry's pillow after I got up and checked on him. He wants to keep this private."

Hermione immediately started reading it. When finished she looked up at Ron.

"I bet he never went to sleep and snuck out under his cloak," she reasoned. "Why didn't he talk to us before he left?"

"We were all dead on our feet, Hermione, so I doubt any of us could have paid proper attention before we got some rest."

"I agree with him. Your family can see it, but we should burn it right after. If anyone asks then we tell them Harry left to clear his head. He said he would be back as soon as he has it figured out. After what he's done then they will just have to accept it. What else are they going to do?"

"He's right, you know. I don't trust the Daily Prophet or the Ministry either. Hopefully, they will get better but I'm going to wait and watch for now before I pass judgement."

"Good. We're on the same page on this. I'm not sure what he can mean about it having to do with the prophecy though. I'm fairly certain it was fulfilled just as Professor Dumbledore had it figured. What am I missing?"

"Well, let's join my family and get some food while you ponder that. I'm actually a little hungry now. I may not be once we get down there though. It's difficult to eat when I think about Fred," he said with a tear running down his cheek.

Hermione wiped the tear away for him.

"It'll be alright, Ron. Just eat whenever you're ready. Fred would not want you to go hungry after all," she told him as she cancelled the spells then led him arm in arm to the exit and down to the Great Hall in silence.

Harry slept a solid 28 hours. Luckily, it was very early morning when he woke up and still dark outside. He was hopeful to get his sleeping patterns straightened out as soon as possible.

He finished his tour of the manor and made sure to get the rest of the dust cleared off of everything using magic. This took a while so he was quite hungry when he finally headed to the kitchen for breakfast. The sun was up good now though but it was still morning.

Harry made some scones, eggs, and bacon for breakfast then sat there and made plans as he enjoyed the food and drank some juice.

The manor was big enough to need an elf or two to keep it clean and maintained, but since he planned on travelling for a while he wanted to hold off on hiring any elves for now. Besides, he still missed Dobby. He was glad when he saw Molly Weasley kill Bellatrix Lestrange in their duel. She was one crazy witch and the one who killed Dobby when he was helping them to escape Malfoy Manor.

No, he could wait on getting another elf.

Thinking about elves, Harry remembered he still had another elf and Kreacher actually led many of the Hogwarts elves against the attacking Death Eaters. He decided he should check on Grimmauld Place and Kreacher.

After he finished breakfast and cleaned up after himself, Harry apparated over to Number 12 Grimmauld Place. He landed in the shadows on the front stoop and put his hand on the doorknob.

He heard the lock release at his touch so he opened the door and went in. The place was a huge mess. The Death Eaters got in and did all sorts of things. He realized it could have been worse but they likely had some semblance of respect for the Black family.

After all, it was only Sirius who was different. The rest of his family were as dark as they come, except for his cousin Andromeda, of course.

"Kreacher?" he called.

Pop!

"Yes, Master. What can Kreacher do?"

"Kreacher, I am so proud of you. I saw what you did with the other elves as you guys helped to protect Hogwarts. I couldn't be happier with an elf than I am with you."

"Kreacher only did what he could to help, Master," he said shyly while shuffling his feet.

"Thank you, Kreacher. Now, how would you like to return to this House and get it all cleaned up, fixed, and representative of a Black family we both could be proud of? If you need help to get all this done then feel free to ask some of your Hogwarts elf friends to come and help with the initial cleanup. I'm sure you can keep it clean and maintained on your own after that."

"Kreacher would love to come home, Master. Kreacher has made many friends at Hogwarts so they will be happy to help old Kreacher."

"That's good to hear, Kreacher. I'm glad you made friends," Harry told him smiling down at him. "Now, the Death Eaters got in here and I wouldn't doubt if they left some surprises for us. Please, you and your friends need to be very careful as you clean this place up and repair it. There's no telling what those crazy people did to this place."

"Kreacher will be very careful, Master, and make sure his friends are careful too."

"That's good to hear. I wish I could say you could call on me if you run into anything I need to handle but I'm going on vacation to clear my head of everything I just went through and because I have a lot to think over and make plans for."

"Do not worry, Master. Kreacher and his friends will set this house to rights all on our own. Master should enjoy his vacation as much as he can."

"Thanks, Kreacher. I'll set aside a large fund from the Black vault that you can use to fix up the place while I'm gone. It would be great if you and your friends could get rid of all the dark colors and cursed objects. Replace the dark colors with lighter ones and give the place a complete makeover. Could you do that, Kreacher?"

"Kreacher will be happy to do that, Master. Just leave it up to Kreacher and his friends."

"Oh, don't let anyone else, including the Order members, back in here. They no longer have a need to use the house. It will be a private residence again. No one besides us and your friends should have access."

"Yes, Master. It will be done."

"Great! I'll see you when I get back."

And with that Harry apparated to the bank to setup the fund for Kreacher before apparating back home to Potter manor.

After checking over the entire manor once more so he could be certain it was completely free of dust, and making sure he didn't miss a spot, Harry went back to a storage room in the basement he had skipped over before since it was just storage.

Inside he found some old trunks that he checked out. The one he decided to use had five compartments and they were all expanded on the inside. One compartment had the equivalency of a five bedroom house.

Inside the trunk house, he found a medium-sized office with a mahogany desk. It came complete with a brown, plush leather desk chair and plenty of shelves, drawers and a large filing cabinet. The shelves were full of books that apparently were copies. They were just a sample from the rather large library he found in the manor.

The kitchen was plenty big with all magical appliances and the bedrooms were decently-sized too. However, the master bedroom was as large as the other four combined. All the bedrooms were fully furnished and equipped with ensuite bathrooms. The master bath was rather large.

Harry moved all the items he bought at the grocer into the trunk and packed what he wanted to take with him. He knew he would have to buy all new clothes at some point but decided to wait until he got to where he was going. What he currently wore would do until then.

With his trunk packed and shrunk down to fit in his pocket, Harry put a glamour on his face again and apparated to London where he knew he could hail a cab. Once he was seated in the taxi, he directed the driver to take him to the airport. He planned to wait and see where he wanted to go once he got there and saw all the places he had to choose from.

It was time he got away for a while and see some places he never had a chance to go to before. His relatives never took him anywhere so he was going to remedy that now that he had the means to do it for himself.

First, he just needed to get far away from this part of the world.
