Repository Addition 2-Othinus
All three inhabitants of Kamijou Touma's dorm were all frozen from shock. Othinus was shocked at both her old power returning and Index's new power. Touma was shocked just at Othinus returning to her regular form. Index was shocked both at her power returning a magic god to her original state, and said magic god's return. However, they were all spurred to action by the sound of someone entering the dorm. Touma attempted to rush towards the door, Index leaped onto the bed, and Othinus…
"Hey, Touma I forgot to mention the-" Tatemiya got those words out before he was frozen, not with ice, but as if someone pressed the pause button on him.
Touma turned to see Othinus pointing Gungnir at the Amakusa magician. The blonde magic god breathed a sigh of relief before twirling the golden spear for a moment and planting the hilt on the floor.
"Human, can you explain to me what's going on and why Index looks like that."
"Uh…so you know how you were yelling for help?"
"Yes, I swore I was being eaten by Index after being caught by Sphynx, but I assume that was a nightmare given all the times that accursed beast has done that to me." Othinus then looked to her left foot to see that Sphynx was trying to drag her away, even with her renewed size. Though the cat's effort was in vain, his expression of exertion was rather adorable…to anyone that wasn't Othinus.
"So…that actually happened."
"I beg your pardon?"
"You got eaten by Index and that's why she's a magic god now."
"O-Ok…I…don't know what to say to that, but how does that explain why I'm back to normal now?"
"I cannot tell you for the life of me, Index was the one who did it."
"Yeah, I have no idea either Othinus." Index shrugged, "I think when I tried bringing Touma back after…accidentally eating him, I brought you back as well."
The All-Father sighed while placing her palm on her forehead.
"Alright, we'll figure this out later, but first we have to deal with Tatemiya over here first."
"I think he's just here to give me some news, he should leave after that, but first you need to hide." replied Touma
"What, so I'm going to have to share a hiding spot with Index?" Othinus glanced over at the newly ascended magic god, only to find her poking Tatemiya like he's one of those living statues you find in a park.
"No, he thinks Index is sleeping, you'll probably have to hide, maybe just go into the bathroom until he goes away?"
"Foolish human, he might have to go to the restroom, I'll hide under the bed until he's gone."
"Alright, Index, get back in the bed."
"Aw, but I was having so much fun pinching Tatemiya's cheeks while he's frozen."
With that, Othinus crawled underneath the bed, while Index jumped on top of it. Once the two were ready in their spots, Tatemiya resumed motion and the sentence he was speaking.
"-second piece of news, so I hope you don't mind me bothering you again."
"Oh, no problem, this seems important anyways."
"Ok, so this guy named Ainmire is out to kill you and Index, he's the leader of this Fae based magic sect. Fortunately he's only brought one other member of his sect with him to Academy City."
This was indeed a more insignificant event than a new magic god forming to Touma. In fact, it was quite a normal occurrence for the unfortunate boy. There was rarely a week in recent times where his life wasn't in peril, it was quite distressing if you sat down to think about it, unfortunately for Touma, there was rarely time to sit down and think about it.
"Oh and he also left a message for you Touma 'meet me at the train station nearest to your dorm tonight, or I will start killing your friends'. We've surmised this to be a trap, and we're hoping to catch this guy in an ambush. The entire Amakusa church was mobilized for this task, but we don't know what this guy is really capable of, nor do we have the manpower to protect everyone who's in danger if he goes for your friends."
"I have a choice then, I could either risk my life to make sure no one but me gets hurt, or I can sit here and hope everything will be fine." said Touma right before he walked towards the door, only being stopped by Tatemiya's hand.
"Woah, hold on for a second, if you go confront him now, just know that the Amakusas have your back. We'll try to be there with you for the confrontation, but we don't know what this Ainmire has in store for you. Just keep in mind we'll be in the area and don't do anything reckless alright?"
"Thanks for that Saji, I'll keep that in mind."
"Oh, and before I leave, why is there blood on your right hand?"
Touma froze up at those words, in his shock over Othinus' return to power, he had completely forgotten about his right hand being bloodied by Index's biting.
(I hope he doesn't notice the dent in the wall)
"Also, why is there a dent in your wall Touma, pretty sure that wasn't there when I was here a few minutes ago."
(Othinus damnit)
(Don't use my name in vain, human)
(Wait, are you communicating to me through telepathy right now?)
(Yes, but first-)
"Touma, why are you staring at me like that, is there something wrong?" Tatemiya said, concerned for the boy's shifting visage, as if someone was having a conversation that he wasn't a part of.
(Just say "what dent" and I'll fix it through a phase shift, as for your hand, say you were preparing a midnight snack for Index and cut your hand with a knife.)
"Uh, Touma, are you alright there? Is there anything wrong? Was it something I said?"
"Oh sorry," Touma responded as he blinked a few times, "I blanked out there, anyways, what dent?"
"That one on the wall…that got instantly fixed…ok are you sure there isn't a magic god here? I can also see your cat trying to drag something from under your bed. Wait…is that blonde hair I see?"
(To Ginnungagap with this I'm knocking the guy out.)
The Amakusa magician then proceeded to fall like a sack of bricks onto the floor, making a dull sound on impact.
"Touma, what happened?" asked Index as she looked over her shoulder to see the unconscious magician
"Othinus knocked Tatemiya out, the ruse wasn't working so she resorted to that."
"I blame Sphynx, the accursed beast won't stop bothering me" Othinus said as she crawled out from under the bed, all the while a calico cat was still clinging to her leg.
"Great, so what now? You settled the issue of Tatemiya figuring you two out, but now we have the issue of explaining to him why he suddenly fell unconscious. Not to mention there's that Ainmire guy who wants me dead."
"Why don't we prop him up some stairs and say he tripped and fell down them?"asked Index
"I doubt that would work, Index."
"That won't fool anyone, former mortal."
"So do you two have any other ideas?"
"..." Touma remained silent
"Wipe his memories?" suggested Othinus
"No", said Touma to immediately shoot down the idea
"Alright it's settled then. I'm sending him to a set of stairs near home."
With that, Index snapped her fingers and Tatemiya's unconscious body disappeared from Touma's dorm. They didn't see it, but Tatemiya was propped on a set of stairs…in the male dormitory of Necessarius, turns out Index wasn't really specific on the term "home" when conducting her phase change. It was there that Stiyl Magnus, the surprisingly tall red headed 14 year old magician came upon him.
"Hey, wake up." Stiyl said while shaking the Amakusa member.
"Huh? W-What are you doing in Japan Stiyl?"
"We're in England, you're at Necessarius headquarters Saji..."
"Wait wait wait, I swear I was in Japan a minute ago talking to Touma, well I blacked out all of a sudden, but I was definitely in Japan when I did."
"I saw you left for your mission yesterday with the rest of the Amakusas, so I can vouch that you did at least end up in Japan. If I hadn't I would've thought you tripped and fell down these stairs. So, what do you remember before blacking out?"
"Well I noted some strange occurrences in Touma's dorm after trying to confirm the reports of a magic god showing up. I think I saw Touma and Index's cat try to grab something from underneath the bed, and blonde hair sticking out from there…I also didn't see Othinus around…"
"Wait, you aren't implying that Othinus has returned to full power are you?"
"We might need to mobilize our forces, Stiyl."
Back at Touma's dorm, the spiky haired boy was standing in the door frame with his back turned towards the outside. He was facing Othinus and Index, the latter was rather distressed, while the former was stern and calm.
"But, Touma, I can help now, now that I have this power, I could fight alongside you and contribute in a meaningful way for a change."
"Yeah, that's what I'm worried about, I don't know anything about this Ainmire guy, but I want to talk to him and clear things up. Maybe he wants to kill me based on a misunderstanding."
"That's my understander for you."
"What, if he doesn't stand down, what if he's super powerful. You are turning up, a god like being, Touma, think about that for a second."
Touma crossed his arm and responded, "I've thought about it for a few minutes actually, and my answer is still the same. This Kamijou-san wants to shatter any illusions Ainmire has about me."
"Yeah, Index, the human doesn't operate like that." Othinus started heading towards the doorway, "Well I'm always glad to lend you my help, human, so-"
"Oh you're staying here too Othi." Touma help his hand out in front of Othinus, stopping her/
"Eh?" Othinus' expression remained relatively unchanged but her eyes widened slightly in response to Touma's words. "But I thought we had a good thing going, I'd help you out during combat by giving you information while you do all the actual fighting."
"And how are you going to do that now? What are you going to yell across the field to dodge or something? Besides, you have a weapon and are well known in the magic community after your plot with Gungnir, you're probably a higher priority target than this unarmed Kamijou-san."
"First, I can put Gungnir away in my eye socket. Second, I can shrink down to 15 cm at will now."
"Y-Yeah, Touma we can shrink down and provide you support, no fighting from us."
"You promise not to interfere, like making me ridiculously lucky or making the other guy faint during the fight? If there is a fight."
Index nodded her head in confirmation.
"Alright, you two, shrink down and I'll bring you two along with me on my shoulder."
"*sigh* So be it." said Othinus as she returned to the form she had around an hour ago, of her own volition this time. Index, proceeded to assume a chibi form as well, shrinking down to the same size as Othinus.
Index then looked up, admiring how the world looked at that angle, "Huh, so this is what the world looks like from this size, hard to believe you lived like this for quite a while Othinus."
"Well, the worst part was really your cat trying to catch me all the time."
Suddenly, Othinus felt a shiver down her back, as if something was watching her. She turned around to see Sphynx readying to pounce on her. Before the calico cat could leap towards her, Othinus readied Gungnir like she was a hunter readying a spear against a charging animal.
"Back! Stay back, foul beast! I have a weapon now and I'm not afraid to use it." Othinus thrusted Gungnir at Sphynx, the golden spear actually hitting the cat in the face. After the impact, Sphynx curled back, letting out a weak meow as he did so.
"Oh don't be so mean to Sphynx Othinus." said Index as she approached her cat "Sphynx just has a lot of fun when she plays with you, you can't blame him when he takes a liking to yyyyoooouuuu."
The newly ascended magic god was cut off when Sphynx pounced on his owner. The calico cat ended up pinning Index to ground with his paws and was rubbing his face against Index's.
"Help! Someone help! Sphynx stop please, bad cat, bad cat."
"How does it feel now, think I'm being unreasonable towards your cat?"
"I take it back, I take it all back, poke Sphynx with Gungnir, anything to get him off."
"Hey, why did you use this form to hide from Tatemiya? In fact I don't think you would even need to hide in the first place given that's what you normally look like to him and everyone else on the magic side." asked Touma as he watched Sphynx continue to pin Index down
"Human, you are currently watching the first and only reason why I didn't do that."
"A little help here, Touma? Othinus?"
"Aren't you a goddess now Index, you could just use your own power to get out this you know." said Touma as he picked up the calico cat and placed him off to the side. He then offered his hand to let the two chibi goddesses climb up so that he could place them on his right shoulder. "Alright then let's go see this Ainmire guy."
As Touma walked through the halls of his dorm building, Index and Othinus were struggling to sit comfortably. The space on Touma's shoulder was enough for one of them, but with two chibi goddesses being there, it was getting cramped. They tried to deal with it as long as they could before Othinus felt Index's new outfit rub against her skin. It was then that the All-Father had enough.
"Hey, Index, could you move to the other shoulder for me please?"
"Why should I move? I like this shoulder, this shoulder is the one that has Imagine Breaker."
"Well, as your elder, I should get the choice of where to sit first, and I choose the right shoulder."
"That's unfair when, in an instant, you and Touma experienced billions of years together."
"You know about that now?" Othinus asked in surprise
"I gained your memories after I ate you."
"Even without that, I'm still countless years older than you, besides I have a better grasp on my power because of my experience."
"Did you just forget about what I said about having your memories?"
"Memories or not, you can't just gain muscle memory or instincts. Or are you telling me that you let Sphynx pin you to the ground on purpose?"
"Shut up."
"Oh, being a little snarky now are we, since when did you get so brave."
"Since I gained enough power to stand up to you on equal footing, by the way, you tasted great."
"Why you little-"
The two chibi goddesses then started a scuffle, Othinus was bearing onto Index with Gungnir, using the handle of the spear as leverage against the silver haired god. However, Index was close enough to the All-Father to start pulling her hair. Before this could escalate further, Touma picked Index up from his right shoulder and promptly moved her to his left shoulder.
"There, is that better?"
"She started it, Touma." said Index moping around on the boy's left shoulder
"I didn't really mention that but whatever. I understand the discomfort sitting in a car with all the good seats taken, so you have to sit in the middle and you keep bumping the passengers next to you. However, I don't think you two had to resort to violence to settle it."
It was then that Othinus interjected, "The former mortal should watch her mouth and learn to respect her elders."
"What's with calling me 'former mortal' anyways Othinus?"
"Because you may be a magic god, but you were a mere mortal hours ago. You don't have the experience with your powers or the wisdom gathered by age to be considered a true god."
"I still have all those grimoires memorized, don't underestimate me just because I assumed this form tonight."
Touma then tried to but a lid on the conversation "Can this discussion wait-"
"Yet, you have not used said knowledge at all, in fact your ascension itself was an accident."
"So is your return to power. If I was so much more experienced, you would be 15 cm but you wouldn't have that stupid spear."
"That's it, I'm putting you two in my back pocket."
"Eh?" both Othinus and Index exclaimed before Touma put the two of them in the back pocket of his pants. The two grumbled at each other as Touma continued walking.
"I hope you two think about what you've done, I don't know what's gotten into you two but bickering is the way to solve things."
(I swear, Othinus and Index do seem different. I guess Index's change could be explained by her ascension, but Othinus shouldn't have changed if she regained her power.)
At a nearby elevated train station, a dark skinned girl, around Touma's age, with gray eyes, a slender figure, and fur hood was talking to a blue eyed man with shoulder length blonde hair. The dark skinned girl is a selkie, capable of shapeshifting from a seal to human and vice versa.
"Muireann, I need you to hide before that boy gets here. When he comes, I'm going to lure him to a vulnerable position, where I'll give you the signal to catch him off guard." the blonde haired man spoke
"How do you know if he even shows up, Ainmire?" asked the selkie
"I have a feeling, anyways the signal phrase will be 'Oh, you're approaching me?' Hopefully we can get him before he reacts."
"Alright, but this place is pretty open, where do you think a good place to hide would be?"
"I dunno, maybe that trash can might work?"
"Oh wait, I remember something Celt gave me to help."
It was then Muireann somehow produced a cardboard box out of her pocket, the box was big enough to house her, but way too large to fit in any article of clothing she had on her. Funnily enough, the box had some labeling on it saying that it was from Academy City. Specifically it came from a lab headed by some guy named Clark who made super compressible cardboard that would retain its shape after being deformed.
"Uh, will that even work? How many cardboard boxes do you even see in a train station?"
"A lot actually, they're pretty common, you see those ones over there?" Muireann pointed to the other side of the train station where around seven cardboard boxes of varying sizes were randomly spread around.
At the sight of being pointed at, a voice came from one of the boxes, "Uh, I think we've been found out."
"Stay calm Itsuwa, they have no reason to think anything out of the ordinary, panic will only reveal us to them."
"Huh, I stand corrected, that might work." Ainmire then turned towards the street, "Oh, he's coming right now, quickly hide Muireann."
The selkie girl then positioned herself near the flight of stairs used to get to the elevated train station. However, she momentarily slipped for a moment, though she quickly caught on the railing to stop her fall.
"Woah, pretty slippery there." the girl remarked as she made her way down the stairs.
When Muireann made it down to the base of the stairs, she crouched down within the cardboard box, every trace of her being concealed within its advanced paper walls. This way she could surprise her target from behind when he was climbing the stairs. Meanwhile, Kamijou Touma approached the station, and upon seeing the random guy standing alone there, he asked him a question.
"Hey, is there a guy named Ainmire at that station? I realize now that I have no idea what this guy looks like."
Upon hearing this, Ainmire was taken aback a little, the boy didn't even know the man who wanted him dead was just standing right there. So in a bout of quick thinking, Ainmire took advantage of this situation.
"Uh, yeah, I think I saw a guy named Ainmire on the other side of this station. Nice guy, pretty handsome, a joy to talk to."
Touma at this point had made it to the base of the stairs and had started climbing them. Unbeknownst to him and the man on top of the stairs, there was a spot on the steps that had a distinct sheen when light hit its surface. Someone had spilled some liquid there and made the coefficient of friction rather low.
"Oh, that's nice to hear, you see I wanted to talk with the guy and possibly clear up a misunderstanding."
As Touma climbed the stairs, Ainmire had to hide his excitement at the prospect of Touma dying. Each step the spiky haired boy took only elevated the levels of excitement the blonde man had for his demise.
(Come on just a little closer, and I can give the signal.)
As he thought this, Ainmire's face slowly distorted into a malicious grin, however Touma noticed this, the boy's suspicion growing alongside Animire's grin.
"Hey, are you thinking about a really funny joke, why are you smiling like that?" asked Touma as he paused his ascent up the stairs
(No! Why'd you stop? Get a little closer up here, I want to see the despair on your face as a blade slides into your spine. Ok, I can recover from this.)
"Oh yeah, I 've just thought of this really dirty joke." Ainmire quickly responded, brushing off Touma's question
"Well, if it's that funny, can I hear it?"
"Eh, I wouldn't really say it to a highschooler, you know, dirty joke and all that.' the blonde man shrugged
Touma's eyes narrowed as he eyed the man in front of him, "You know I have this sneaking suspicion that you want me on that platform."
"What? Pfft, no, why would I? It's not like I would care about whether or not a stranger is on this platform or not."
"You know, I was told that this Ainmire guy brought one of his colleagues with him here. And the way you complimented him seems pretty suspicious." Touma resumed his climb up the stairs, albeit a lot more slowly this time.
"What are you implying?"
"You're with Ainmire aren't you?"
Just as things were reaching a tipping point, Ainmire decided to say those fateful words.
"Oh you're-'
The man was unable to finish, he was cut off when Touma slipped one of the steps on the stairs. The unfortunate boy gained a bit of air time from the slip, before tumbling back down the stairs. While he was falling, he got out these words.
"SUCH…*thud*…MIS…*thud*…FOR…*crack*…TUNE. *bam*"
As Touma hit the base of the stairs, making a sizable bounce upon impact, he was rendered unconscious, his back facing the sky. Ainmire, upon witnessing this event, started laughing, both at the impromptu slapstick comedy, and the ease at which his task had become. Meanwhile Muireann was dumbfounded at both the sounds and sight she just experienced, with Touma landing right in front of her box.
(Are you serious? This is the guy who we thought was seeking to destroy all magic? I was expecting some force of nature, not some regular boy who gets knocked out this easily…he does look kinda cute though.)
"Ha, this would be easier than I thought, Kamijou Touma, dies tonight by my hands!" Ainmire shouted
"Uh, Touma, if I'm hearing that right, that man said he was gonna kill you."
"Huh?" The blonde man then scanned the area for the source of that sound, before looking back at the spiky haired boy he was going to kill.
A voice had seemingly come from Touma's body despite the boy's unconscious state. Not to mention it had clearly been a female voice, either the guy was a ventriloquist on such a level that he could do an impression while unconscious, or he had a tiny person on him.
"Hey, Othinus I think Touma is out cold."
"Ugh, sorry Index, I'm still reeling from that impact. If the human is out cold, I say we get out and survey the situation."
"Agreed."
It was then that two chibi goddesses climbed out of Touma's back pocket and both grew to the size of teenage girls. At this point, Ainmire just stood there, in shock, at the two beings that were standing over the boy he sought to kill. Soon, a great amount of panic set in due to the fact he said he was gonna kill said boy within earshot of two god-like beings.
"Hey, Othinus, I think that's the man who wants Touma dead, what should we do to him?"
"Just deal with him quickly, the most important thing right now is to check if the human has a concussion from that fall."
"Okie dokie." Index then turned towards Ainmire and snapped her fingers.
These were Ainmire's last words:
"That bastard had two magic gods in his back pocket? You've gotta be shi-"
Ainmire was cut off when he exploded like a water balloon hit with a sharp object, his remains were splattered all over the place, getting on Index, Othinus, the unconscious Touma, and Muireann's box. The selkie, meanwhile, had put her hands over her mouth to help prevent herself from screaming in terror at the sight before her.
"Index, I said 'deal with him quickly' I didn't say 'turn him into raven food', you know what the human has against killing." Othinus said while wiping the sanguine fluid from her eyes, however she paused to look at the fluid, before licking it from her hands. "Is this…tomato sauce?"
"It was the quickest way to deal with him was it not? It also prevents him from being a problem in the future." said Index with a rather disturbing amount of bloodlust in her eyes given the girl's occupation and what she had just done.
"I suppose so, but my point still remains. Also, that was a very 'me' thing to say, especially from you Index."
"Well, should we bring him back then?"
Othinus crouched down to check on Touma before responding, "Eh, the human will forgive us…or forget, this looks like a pretty bad head injury."
(Oh crap oh crap oh crap oh crap oh crap. Ok, ok, ok just calm down Muireann, you can get out of this, you just have two magic gods that you've nearly made enemies of right in front of you, so close in fact, that I think they might notice my breathing…Just have to wait till they're gone and get back home.)
"Hey, Othinus, do you hear a fourth person's heartbeat in this area?"
"aaaahhhhh!" Muireann thought as she barely contained her terror
"Now that you mention it, I do hear it, and it's getting faster, whoever that heartbeat belongs to should go see a doctor."
"AAAAAHHHHHH!" Muireann thought as her terror wasn't quite contained
"Who's…heartbeat…is…that…" muttered Touma as he slipped in and out of consciousness
Meanwhile on the other side of the station, the cardboard boxes that laid there were lifted up to reveal the Amakusa church members hiding underneath. They had witnessed Ainmire exploding but they didn't hear the context behind it, only the yelling of the man proclaiming that he'll kill Touma. So they went over to investigate what happened…only to find Index and Othinus standing over Touma, soaked in a red liquid they presume to be blood, and Othinus is holding a peculiar golden spear. Just as the Amakusas noticed them, so did the two gods notice the Amakusas.
"Uh…we can explain." said Index
"What are you wearing Index? Also, did you…grow a bit and is that a heartbeat I hear?" Itsuwa was the first to say something, "More importantly, is Othinus there at her normal size with Gungnir…oh, oh no."
Before either Index or Othinus could say anything, the Amakusa magicians ran away, but not before Itsuwa managed to grab Touma from between the two gods. An impressive feat that left the two magic gods in shock.
"T-That girl just took my human! I won't forgive this slight, you hear me, Itsuwa I know who you are, and just so you know there is nowhere on this planet…no, THERE IS NOWHERE IN THE UNIVERSE FOR YOU TO HIDE!" Othinus yelled in the air, her voice shaking the ground around her.
As a result of Othinus' declaration, Muireann's eyes rolled over, she began foaming at the mouth, and her body collapsed as she lost consciousness. The sound of her body impacting the floor, along with the box being shifted by the movement, made Index notice something was off about the cardboard container. So, while Othinus was busy screaming at the sky, Index lifted the box to investigate.
"Hey Othinus, there was a girl hiding in this box."
And so begins Muireann's journey to falling to Kami-yan disease.
AN: So I've decided to use these AN to detail some of my thought process and scrapped ideas in the previous chapter. Tatemiya forgetting the second piece of news last chapter was a result of me forgetting to put that piece of news, I just rolled with it afterwords instead of adding it back in. The whole premise of this started when me and Cray were discussing that one time in Imaginary Fest where Index almost ate Othinus by accident. Originally Index was going to get fed up with Touma and bring Othinus back out of rage, but I changed it to Touma being eaten by Index accidentally instead since I thought it would be funnier (and I thought it was OOC for Index in the first place).
Speaking of OOC, I wonder what's making Othinus react that way, *hint hint nudge nudge
Muireann, Celt, and Ainmire are characters from the original LoCG for those wondering, craytherlay came up with them, not me.
