We see the town as an anarchic wasteland. Flaming trash barrels line the sidewalks and streets, being the only thing lighting up the red night. Nothing has been rebuilt. It's almost like Salem. People are accusing others of being Demogorgons in disguise (or as they call them, The White Demons), and are hanging them or crucifying them to hopefully appease the creatures, believing them to be gods. Three cars approach the crowd. It's the gang, who jokingly spray painted on the doors, "The Hawkins Frat Pack." They have to detour around the crowd, as they are heading toward the old Hawkins Lab. Leading the cars is a 1988 Fleetwood Bounder RV, carrying Joseph, Eleven, Mike, Jonathan, Nancy and Will, who's driving with Mike riding shotgun. The car behind them is Hopper's squad car, carrying Hopper, Robert, Lucas and Robin. The car behind them carries Steve and the others. All cars are stocked with weapons.
We see Robert in the back seat in his old WW2 uniform, cleaning his M1 Garand and loading his Colt 1911.
We see Joseph talking to Eleven, saying, "I'm sorry about the things I said. I was angry and I…" Eleven replies, "It's okay, I forgive you. You no longer have to be afraid. You have found your family." Joseph responds, "Who knows? What if we don't survive?" Eleven puts her hand on his shoulder, saying, "Whatever happens, we'll be together." Joseph forces a smirk.
We cut to a while later, While driving, Will starts behaving erratically. He yells at another car, "Idiot! Move it you jerk! The others look at him with surprised looks on their faces. Will starts driving extremely fast, weaving dangerously in and out of traffic. Mike, who is next too Will asks, "Going a little fast, aren't we Will? Will viciously replies, "Are you telling me how to drive?" Mike replies, "No, I just thought," Will interrupts, "Well don't think!" Will stomps on the gas, barreling down the road, and a hitchhiker leaps to safety as the vehicle makes a sharp left turn. Everyone except Will holds on. Mike shouts, "Are you crazy man? You're going to kill somebody!" Will turns toward Mike and smiles demonically, with the veins in his face clearly visible. He manically says, "No I'm going to kill everybody!" He swerves off the road, and heads toward a big tree. At the last moment, Mike knocks Will out cold, and reaches over to stop the van. It comes to a violent halt, just barely missing the tree. Will wakes up from his trance. Joseph angrily grabs Will and shouts, "What the hell was that? What's wrong with you, you could have gotten us killed!" El and Dustin grab Joseph and pull him away before he can do any harm. Will is in distress. "My God. Is he gone?" Joseph firmly asks, "Who? Who is gone?" Will replies, "Vecna! Is he gone or not? Is he gone?" Mike shouts back, "I don't know!"
It's been years since Will has had an episode like this. Mike is at a loss for words. Robert steps out of the car following behind and says, "You nearly died today. Watch him."
They continue their drive, with Steve keeping a close eye on Will. He always was a good babysitter after all.
We cut to Mike, walkie talkie in hand, the car ride is quiet. He interrupts the silence by singing, I Get A Kick Out of You by Frank Sinatra. Everyone who has a walkie hears the tune, and some join in. Eventually all we hear is singing.
We cut to the crew sleeping. The cars are resting on the side of the road.
The RV is silent, except for the sleeping gang on board. Mike sleeps alone, looking out a window behind him. He hears a familiar voice say, "Mike?" He turns slowly to see Eleven standing on the opposite side of the bed. We can only see their silhouettes. She asks, "Can I sleep with you? I don't want to be alone." Mike says, "Sure… El." She gets in with him. Mike suddenly scoots to the side a bit, looking nervous, almost blushing. El asks, "Are you alright?" Mike replies, "Yeah, I'm fine, I'm just tired. Let's get some sleep, love." El responds, "Actually, I have something else in mind." Mike reacts with a bit of shock, "You're not suggesting we…" El cuts him off, "It's okay. We don't have to if you don't want…" Mike says, "I do. I really do, but… I don't want to hurt you." El gets a bit closer and says something he will never forget. She says, "Mike Wheeler, I'm not a fragile piece of glass. You could never hurt me, and besides if you did I'll make you fly out the window." Mike smiles and says, "Why you little…" He jokingly wrestles her, making her giggle. She kisses him on the lips. Mike gives in and kisses her back. The CAMERA PANS UP to the beautiful stars above as the couple makes out and the chapter ends.
