The unseen sun rises over a red, stormy and rainy sky. You wouldn't think it was morning. Robert decides to play a prank on the sleeping gang. He walks out of the squad car, walks in the RV and screams through a megaphone, "Reveille! Reveille! Reveille!" Everyone who hears it bolts awake, clearly frustrated.
We intercut to Robert in the next and last car continuing, "Drop your cocks and grab your socks! Everyone pull out! Stop making out and move out!"
Jim slowly wakes up, and when Robert enters the squad car and tells him what he did. Jim laughs hysterically. Robert shouts, "WAKE UP!" through the megaphone at Lucas and Robin, making them bolt awake.
They exit their vehicles, realizing they have stopped in front of the old Hawkins Laboratory, which has been overtaken by nature and flooding.
Eleven reunites with Kali. (008 from S2)
Vecna's house was somehow relocated on the old property. It's time to confront him. We see weapons being loaded and flying off of shelves.
The gang sneaks into a small trench, (which is barely deep enough to hide them), following behind the more experienced Robert. We see Nancy preparing a shotgun, and Steve preparing Molotov cocktails. Vecna is nowhere to be seen. Robert squints, glancing everywhere. Suddenly, the water bubbles and glows red. A massive 50 foot jet of steam shoots out. A giant, fleshy, gelatinous mass emerges from the water like a mighty kaiju. It's Mortifier! Robert ducks back into the trench, whispering, "What the hell is that thing? Is that The Blob?" Jim replies, "I don't know." The fleshy mass of Mortifier oozes out of the water like pus from an ingrown nail. Another bright red light appears in the water. A humanoid, tentacled figure emerges alongside the fleshy beast. It's Vecna! He slowly rises out of the water, walking across the sea like a demonic Jesus Christ. He has more the appearance of a decomposing corpse, a zombie of himself, if you will. He screams in a demonic voice, "It's beautiful isn't it!", somehow acknowledging the presence of his enemies before him. Robert whispers to the others, "Scatter! Split up! Go!" Vecna knows that they are here, but not exactly where they are. The rest of the gang aside from Robert dives into the flooded stream, taking a gasoline hose, and dumping all the gasoline into the water, and then swimming behind the ruined building, out of sight of Vecna. They scale the building until they reach the rooftop. Robert notices an electrical barge floating behind Vecna and Mortifier. He raises his rifle, aiming directly at Vecna's head. He fires and ducks down. The shot hits Vecna square in the face, yet nothing happens. He doesn't even flinch. Robert shouts into his walkie, "ENGAGE!" Suddenly, a lit match falls through the air, and as it touches the water, it bursts into flames, engulfing Vecna and Mortifier! Vecna somehow parts the flames like how Moses parted the sea, leaving everyone in disbelief. Robert screams, "What the hell was that?" The fire barrels toward Robert, who hits the deck, jumping into the trench as the flames pass over! Suddenly, a familiar voice comes over the walkie. It says, "Hello there you crazy son of a bitch!" A squadron of five Huey helicopters and Abram tanks appear from out of the clouds and over the hills! The voice continues with an impeccable Robin Williams impression, "Good Morning Vecna! This is Lt. Col. Jack Sullivan raining hell!" The helicopters fire on Vecna and Mortifier! The crossfire nearly kills Eleven, who barely dodges the firefight! The helicopters continue to fire as the gang joins in, bombarding him with shotgun blasts, and grenades! The intense firefight stops for a moment. It's quiet. Smoke fills the musty air. Vecna emerges alive from a seemingly no win situation. Mortifier is dead, having been completely incinerated. The air smells of burnt flesh. 3 of the helicopters are struck out from the air one by one, crashing to the ground in a fiery inferno! Jack Sullivan screams, "Holy Shit!" Another helicopter falls, and then his craft falls in, landing in the water unlike the others, remaining intact! Only Sullivan survives in the chopper. Robert runs to the wreckage, extinguishing the flames, and pulling a bruised Sullivan out of the wreckage. Luckily, he's able to walk with only a limp. Adrenaline is no joke. Demogorgons emerge from underground tunnels and attack the gang, who fend them off almost effortlessly! Robert fixes his bayonet and charges one, impaling it through the mouth. This fight gets intense, and the gang is forced inside the old structure, who bar the doors! One of Vecna's tentacles slithers under the door, grabbing Nancy! Robert slices the tentacle in two with a powerful swing of his katana, freeing Nancy! The door flies open, and Vecna steps inside, with the fiery sea somehow extinguished! Steve gives him a nasty strike with his bat, before Eleven and Joseph throw Vecna back with their powers! Kali induces a hallucination into Vecna, making it look as if the gang has vanished. Vecna gets angry and shouts, "You cannot hide forever!" This slow hide and seek game goes on for half a minute, when suddenly, he is impaled in the back by Robert. Vecna backhands him, knocking him down. Vecna is suddenly thrown around like a ragdoll, smashing into various structures before finally having enough. Kali and the rest are now visible. Vecna throws Joseph, Eleven and Kali back, knocking Kali unconscious, and nearly killing Joseph and Eleven. Mike notices that like the others, Vecna's nose bleeds when he uses his powers. He tells Joseph, "I've got an idea! Follow me!"
Mike is seen putting something in his pocket, before he dives into the water, swimming to a small rowboat. Joseph follows, not knowing what he is doing. He paddles to the electrical barge, eventually getting behind it, with him facing the old laboratory. Joseph gets to the generator that powers the barge. Mike grabs his paddle, and slams it down on the cable as hard as he can, creating an irresistible sound, similar to a dinner bell. He screams at Vecna, "Come on you ugly son of a bitch!", all while slamming the paddle like there's no tomorrow! Vecna turns to Mike, who's shouting profanities and insults, sounding off as he's got a pair! Eleven and the others turn to the distant Mike, with Eleven realizing what he is about to do. The paddle breaks, and Mike grabs the cable with both hands, welcoming death. She screams, "No, stop! Get down from there!" Before she can act, Will restrains her, telling her to get a hold of herself. Vecna obligingly barrels toward Mike, unaware of the danger the cables present! 'It's practically impossible to resist someone who's willing to die.', Vecna thinks. Mike shouts, "That's it! Attaboy! Come on! Right over here!" Eleven shouts in horror, "Mike!" Mike sounds off at Vecna, "That's it, come on!" Nancy shouts, "Look out! What the hell are you doing?" Will shouts at him, "He's coming! Get down!" Mike doesn't listen, only looking at the approaching Vecna. Eleven shouts, "MIKE! WATCH OUT!" Mike shouts at Vecna, "Come on! Come and get me! Come and get me!" Mike cuts the power cable, dropping the halves of it into the water, sending massive volts of electricity through him and Vecna, setting the latter ablaze. The smoke is so thick that Eleven and the others can't make out what is happening beyond it. A burnt Mike falls on the rocks of the barge, where he's safe from the electricity, but he is mortally wounded. Joseph shields his eyes, until the electricity stops flowing. Vecna's charred corpse sinks into the water, not to be seen again.
Joseph picks up Mike and gets to the boat, paddling to dry land, where he is met by the others. Eleven pushes past her friends to get to Mike, who's barely conscious. Eleven kneels down to Mike, whose skin now feels like leather. His breathing is labored. He says, "El. Did we… kill him?" Eleven replies, "Yes. He's gone. Please don't go. You can't die." Mike utters, "Nothing… can stop that now. I love you, and I… always will." Eleven cries and cradles him, saying, "No no no. Please don't go. Don't leave me Mike!" Mike utters, "There's one more thing I must do. He reaches into his pocket, pulling out the DIAMOND RING from earlier. He wheezes, "Will… you… marry… me?" Eleven says, "Yes. Yes. I will! It will be beautiful, just stay with me please." Mike uses the last of his strength to hug Eleven, kissing her. As they break away from the kiss, Mike utters, "Thank you… for the adventure. Now go… have a new one." Mike finally goes limp, dying on the shore. Eleven cries profusely, now inconsolable. She sings Every Breath You Take to him in the form of a lullaby, almost as if he were a child being coerced to sleep. She closes his eyes for the last time. She screams so loud that the windows of the lab shatter, raining down on all of them. Everyone ducks for cover except for her. She faints from all the stress.
Sullivan awakens, and upon seeing Eleven, he attempts to kill her. Robert notices this and shouts, "You stand down, Colonel." Sullivan scoffs, "Why should I? You're looking at a monster over there. She's too dangerous to be left alive!" Robert shouts, "This war is over. You understand me. This war is over!", pointing his sidearm at Sullivan's head. Jack attempts to fire, but Robert shoots the gun out of his hand. Robert grits his teeth while saying, "If you think I take pleasure in doing this, you're wrong. That is my daughter. If you touch her, I'll kill you, and everyone you love. I won't hesitate to kill you just because we fought together in Vietnam. Don't make me prove it." Sullivan laughs, "Only a crazy man would ever call something like that their blood relative! And besides, you killed most of your own men in My Lai, remember that?" Robert replies, "Last time I checked, I shot that man for trying to rape a poor citizen. He deserved to die, and my men tried to kill me because they thought I was the traitor." Sullivan snaps, "And what would their families have to say about that?" Robert replies, "You know what, I am crazy. Say, Lt. Col., you ever dance with the devil in the pale moonlight?" Sullivan asks, "What?" Robert scoffs, "Exactly. Only a crazy man would have done so." Robert shoots Sullivan dead in cold blood. His magazine is now empty. He's tired. He falls asleep alongside Eleven.
