I don't own Avatar: The Last Airbender.

Chapter 3

Night was falling on the Caldera, but the Comet was still in the sky, giving all the conquerors of fire insane power. She flooded everything with her scarlet light, as if she was showing the observers that right now it was the time of the bending of fire, that her power could not be compared to anything else.

I continued to put out fires in the square and nearby buildings after the epic Agni Kai between Zuko and his sister Azula, while watching the sky.

I thought it would be different. After the conversation with Sokka and my promise to myself to open my heart to Aang, I expected that everything would be fine now. I could not even imagine that the young Avatar would disappear the next day, and we would be forced to go in search of him. First, we stopped by the bounty hunter June, who made an inappropriate joke about me as Zuko's girlfriend (I shuddered with disgust, imagining us together).

So, we gave her animal to smell Aang's things so that he could find him by smell, but the animal just started walking in a circle! And then it just lay on the ground! Only then did June explain that Shirshu (that's her pet's name) couldn't find our friend because he didn't exist. For a moment, my heart stopped at this statement. But June again explained that he was not dead (this calmed me down), since Shirshu would have found a corpse (I suppressed the memories from the Crystal Catacombs), but added that he did not exist, as if Aang had never existed at all.

Having lost hope of finding Aang before the Comet on his own, Zuko offered to find someone else, then took out someone's shoe. Shirshu sniffed it and found a trace. We went after him.

As a result, we found the White Lotus camp, where all the masters and teachers we met on our journey were! I met Master Pakka, who told me about his return to the South Pole (and how my grandmother met him, beating all the nonsense out of him), Sokka talked to Piandao, and Toph decided to have a fight with King Bumi to find out who is the best conqueror of the earth, it's just ridiculous! Zuko, having found out which tent his uncle was in, went to him.

Later we gathered to discuss the plan. When asked what to do with Ozai, General Iroh said that the Avatar would appear and fight him. After resolving this issue, Zuko informed that he should go to the Nation of Fire to fight with Azula. The elder conqueror of fire agreed, but noted that he would need help, so I volunteered to accompany the prince. Sokka, Suki and Toph had to stop the military airships. So, we split up…

- I told you to take Azula to jail! - Zuko shouted, interrupting my thoughts.

I turned around and saw him standing slightly askew, communicating with several guards who did not want to follow his orders.

"We are loyal to the Phoenix King Ozai," they kept saying.

- Ozai is now fighting with the Avatar! Rest assured, he won't come out victorious, - Zuko said.

- We are loyal…

- I said, take Azula to jail! - The conqueror of fire roared, releasing a powerful flame into the sky.

The guards seemed to be affected by the show of force, so they took Azula, who was unconscious, and took her away.

After they disappeared from sight, Zuko sank down on the steps. I approached him intending to have a healing session.

- How are you? - I asked, sitting down next to him and taking water from the wineskin in the palm of my hand.

"I'm fine," he said. "It's me who should be asking you about this, because it was you who defeated Azula."

"I'm... I'm worried..." I said, putting my hands on his chest, starting to heal.

"He will win, Katara..." he replied, realizing what I meant.

"I want to believe it, but if he... if he doesn't come back..." I started to cry. – I've been acting like a bitch towards him lately…

"He'll forgive you, Katara," Zuko tried to cheer me up.

"I-I'm not sure… I broke his heart… At this performance, he opened up to me, and I did this to him… And then the quarrel where we shouted at each other… I thought that there was an unbreakable bond between us, but during these two days without him, I very much doubted it... I…

- Katara, - Zuko interrupted me, raising his hand, - look.

I turned around, my tears forgotten. A ray of blue energy appeared in the sky, and a moment later the same one appeared, but already dark orange in color. Dark orange began to displace the blue, until the blue practically disappeared.

I felt in my heart that it was Aang, and I felt that he was losing. "Come on, Aang. You've come such a long way, you can't lose… Come back... even if not for me, come back alive anyway, please... Yue, if you can hear me, then help Aang, I beg," I begged, feeling that my eyes were beginning to fill with tears again.

As if at my request, the blue light instantly replaced the other, and the whole sky became so bright blue that the color from the comet became invisible. After a second, it was over, and the sky turned scarlet red again.

There was silence for a while we realized what had happened, but then Zuko broke the silence: "He won, Katara."

"Yes, I do," I agreed, smiling through my tears.

I wanted to wait for Aang to arrive here, but after a while Zuko groaned in pain, so I got up and helped him.

"Let's go to the palace, Zuko," I said. – You need healing sessions, - before we went in, I took one last look at the sky, knowing that I would be busy for the next few hours…

"Katara, wake up..." someone said, touching my shoulder.

I barely opened my eyes and looked around. I was still sitting in the red living room. My brother and Suki were standing next to me.

- Sokka! Suki! - I exclaimed and rushed to hug them.

"Careful, sis," Sokka said, gasping, so I pulled away.

- What happened? - I asked, noticing his crutches.

"Nothing special," he replied. – This is a battle wound I received when I destroyed airships with one boomerang and a space sword… I lost them, by the way…

"But you saved me," the blind girl added as she entered the room. – Aren't you glad?

- Toph! – I ran up to the conqueror of the earth and hugged her, to which she replied.

"Hi, Katara," Toph replied softly, then pulled away.

Finally, I noticed the obvious absence of the one I desperately wanted to see.

- Where's Aang? I asked in a trembling voice.

"I know he won..." I tried to calm myself.

"But at what price did he win?... What if he lost his life in the end?..." a treacherous voice whispered in my head, which made me feel a lump in my throat and tears in my eyes.

- Oh, oh, sis, Aang is fine! - Sokka quickly clarified.

"Then where is he?" He's probably injured, he needs a healing session! I said, intending to go to him right away.

"He's fine, Katara, but he's not at the palace."…

- What do you mean, he's not in the palace?! Where is he?! - I asked sharply.

"We don't know where he is or when he'll be back, Katara," Suki replied calmly.

"He's... Ahhhhhh... well, okay," I tried to calm down, knowing that I wouldn't be able to find him if Aang didn't want it. "Then tell me what happened to you and when you arrived."

So, they told.

They arrived a couple of hours ago on a military airship of the Nation of Fire and have already seen Zuko to clarify the results of the battle to him. Sokka reported on the successful stopping of other ships and Aang's victory over Ozai. Toph took the former Lord of Fire in chains, who was absolutely powerless, to a temporary prison. When asked how the young Avatar forced him to surrender, Sokka replied that Aang deprived him of the bend of Fire. I was shocked, and Toph mentioned that he doesn't seem to need teachers anymore. Suki also added that as soon as he and Momo saw Appa, they went flying. When I heard that, I was upset because I wanted to talk to him and try to save our relationship. I thought that he would still need healing after the battle, so I calmed down, assuring myself that I would still have time to talk to him.

After they finished their story, I wanted to tell mine, but Toph said that Zuko had already clarified this to them, also informing them that he wanted to arrange a Coronation tomorrow in order to sign peace as soon as possible and had already invited representatives of other Nations. So, I started healing my friends. Since Zuko had been significantly healed before, I immediately started on my brother's broken leg, having worked on it for several hours. When I finished, I still advised him to continue walking for a while with crutches. He resisted, but I reminded him that it would show him as a warrior who was wounded in an epic battle. The healing of the Bitch and Toph took much less time, so when I finished, and it was already closer to night, I went to bed feeling exhausted.

The next day, around noon, I specifically went to Sokka to find out about Aang, assuming that they had already met, however, this did not happen.

- I talked to Zuko, he said that Aang has not appeared in the palace yet.

- Didn't show up?! He was gone for almost a day! - I exclaimed.

"Don't worry, sis, he'll show up," Sokka replied calmly. – I think his spiritual mumbo-jumbo will inform him about Zuko's Coronation today, and Aang will be here on time.

"I hope so," I said, then left the room and headed to the courtyard of the palace with a small pond, intending to sit for a while and then go to the Coronation.

When I came out of the palace, I saw Aang, who on the contrary was leaving here. He was wearing some kind of Air Nomad clothing that I hadn't seen before. She looked pretty good on him. The yellow-red fabrics stood out on him, emphasizing his peach skin. Wanting to communicate with him, I called him.

- Aang! - I shouted to him.

I thought he would turn around and run up to me to tell me how much he missed me and worried about me, or yell at me for what I did. But he just quickened his pace without turning around. This made me angry, and I decided to act, not just talk.

Taking water from the pond, I froze his feet so that he could not leave.

- What's wrong with you?! - I shouted, irritated.

- Katara, let me go, please, - Aang asked, in a strained voice.

- So, you can run away?! Where have you been at all?! - I asked.

"It doesn't matter," he replied monotonously, completely unfreezing his legs with the bend of the fire and intending to leave.

"Well, no, I won't let you go," I thought, collecting additional water from the pond. It was lucky that there were no animals in the pond right now. Lifting a large sphere of water, I aimed it at him, intending now to freeze him completely, but the Avatar abruptly turned and exhaled fire from his mouth, causing all the water to evaporate.

- I asked you to stop! He shouted, clasping his hands at his sides.

"Oh, you're going to taste your own medicine," I thought, getting angry.

- I also told you that I was confused, but you didn't stop and kissed me anyway! - I thundered back, grinning angrily.

Aang seemed deflated by these words, taking a step back. Realizing that he was out of the game, I decided to finish him off.

- We were at the last stage of the war! It was necessary to focus on the most important thing – the victory over Ozai…

- For me, nothing has ever been more important than us, Qatar! – he exploded, interrupting me, and I noticed how the fire in the torches on the walls abruptly began to flare up more. – That's it, the war is over, congratulations! The world is saved, I have fulfilled my mission! You don't have to babysit me anymore, you're free! I'm not holding you! – the young conqueror of the air thundered, then turned around and ran out of the yard, leaving me standing in shock.

"What did I just do?" I whispered, in a trembling voice, when I came to myself, kneeling down, covering my face with my hands.

"Now he thinks that after completing the mission and the end of the war, I will leave him, leaving him alone," I thought, feeling the guilt engulf me for making him think that way.

"It was certainly an interesting performance," Toph said, stepping out of the shadows and interrupting my thoughts.

- T-Toph? W-what are you doing here? - I asked, holding back tears so as not to burst into tears in front of my friend.

- I felt that Aang's heartbeat was frantic, so I went here to check on him, well, that's it, - the blind girl replied. – Based on what I heard, things really aren't going well between you.

- Y-yes, I ruined everything… This is the end now," I whispered, letting the dark thoughts consume me.

"I-I really broke his heart, crushed him..." I thought, feeling my eyes fill with tears.

- Sweetness, I'm not Suki or Sokka, so I can't give you any special advice or anything else, - Toph began, coming up to me. – But I can say for sure that this is not the end. When I first joined you, Aang's heart was everywhere if you were with him. I thought he was going to have a heart attack when you hugged him or kissed him on the cheek," I blushed from this, "he was in love, or already loved you, to be honest, I don't fully distinguish these phrases, but I can definitely say that you were dear to him. And I'm sure, unlike you, that he still loves you," she said.

"W-why are you so sure?" I asked.

- Because his love is real, Katara, and it is visible in his eyes, - Suki entered the conversation, appearing. – And true love cannot go out instantly. It's a deep feeling that can't just disappear.

- How do you know, Suki? I wouldn't be surprised to find the opposite, after all that has happened," I asked.

- Katara, are you giving up? Toph was surprised and considering that she called me by my real name, she really did it. – Do you want to just abandon Aang because you yelled at each other? I thought you were stronger.

- What, am I strong… Wait a minute, I never said I loved him," I said, to which the girls just looked at me.

- what? - I asked.

"It shows in your look too, Katara," Suki clarified. – Well, Sokka also suggested it.

- So, are you ready to fight for him? – the conqueror of the earth asked again.

"Yes," I said firmly, feeling hopeful that all was not lost between me and Aang. – What's the plan?

- Right now, we have to go to the Coronation, but after it there will be a ball where we can bring you together so that you can talk and sort things out among yourselves.

"But he won't talk to me if you tell him I'm waiting for him," I said.

"Don't worry, we'll figure it out, it's not your concern," the Kyoshi warrior clarified.

I wanted to ask a few more questions, but my brother showed up.

— Here you are all! he exclaimed and tried to raise his hands in sarcastic admiration, but his crutches wouldn't let him. – People started to gather in the square, I think we should go too.

"I'm going to change and join you," Suki explained and left.

- In fact, I will also go to put on the equipment of a fighter from the Invasion, - said Toph, after which she also left.

- Are you coming? - Sokka asked me.

- Yes, I'm ready, let's go, - I replied, and we moved to the square.

When we arrived, I saw that quite a lot of people had already gathered in the square. However, I saw a man I missed, although I didn't think about him often.

- Dad! - I shouted and ran to him.

- Dad! - Sokka also shouted and hurried to him as fast as he could.

"Hello, children," he said, hugging us. – I'm so proud of you. Having hero children is a pride for the family. I believe that Mom is proud of you.

Without thinking, I raised my hand and grabbed the necklace.

"Thank you," I whisper, hugging my father tighter, but Sokka interrupts me.

- Suki! – he exclaims, as if he hadn't seen her for years, even though we broke up quite recently.

I turn around and see a girl who was fully dressed as a Kyoshi warrior.

- Careful, Suki! - My brother exclaims again when he sees someone appear between the other Kyoshi warriors. – It's Tai Lee!

"Calm down, Sokka," Suki said. – She's with us now.

- Yes! While we were in prison, we became friends, and I decided to join them! We will become best friends! - Tai Li said, smiling and hugging the girls next to her.

Sokka clearly wanted to say something else, but the gong sounded, calling everyone to silence. I turned around, waiting for the beginning. The fire sages stood in a row on the sides, waiting.

Finally, another gong sounded, and Zuko appeared from the aisle. I, like everyone else present, began to applaud. Zuko raised his hand and said, "The real hero is the Avatar!"

After these words, Aang appeared, smiling shyly, and stood next to Zuko. So, the conqueror of fire began: "I promised my uncle that I would return the Fire Nation to its honor and worldwide respect! It will be a long and difficult path because of the 100 years of war that our country started under the leadership of Sozin, but with the help of Aang's Avatar," here he turned his head and they smiled at each other, after which he continued, "we will be able to overcome it! We are entering a new era, an era of love and peace!" Zuko concluded, and deafening applause rang out from all over the square.

It was at this moment that Aang and I met eyes. We looked at each other for a while, but soon he looked away.

- In a few hours there will be a gala evening dedicated to the victory of the Avatar over Ozai and the end of the war! There will be a ball and snacks of every nation! Please come and share this joyful moment with us! Before the celebration begins! Zuko said, after which he and Aang left for the palace, followed by the fire sages.

- So, Katara, now let's go, - Suki grabbed my hand and dragged me towards our rooms.

- Where to? - I asked, but I followed her anyway.

- To prepare you for a meeting with Aang, of course! - she exclaimed. - "You didn't give up, did you?" Suki asked seriously.

- No! - I answered quickly. – I love Aang, and I want him back!

— That's the spirit, I understand! - Kyoshi the warrior remarked, smiling.

"I'm coming for you, Aang," I thought resolutely. – "I will save us and our relationship."

Thanks for the reviews!

KatAangLover: Thank you! I'm glad you like my story.
