Damn, you guys really like this? You asked for it.
A couple of months later, Maya was getting used to motherhood. Well, she got used to it as best as she could. Akira was a fussy baby, and he often cried throughout the night. She already had established an identity for Akira, as no one had seen her for a whole year, and the timing would check out anyway. Her biggest issue was when people would ask who Akira's father was.
She would claim that his father was a one-night stand, which didn't raise too many questions after that, but did get her fair share of odd looks.
She looked at the clock. 3 AM. It was a miracle Akira hadn't woken her up yet.
"WAAAAAAAAHHHHH!"
Maya sighed. Speak of the devil. She walked into the nursery and picked Akira up. "I swear, you have the worst timing," Maya sighed once more.
Akira's response was to continue crying. Sighing, Maya placed Akira on the ground and began to fill his bottle.
"I bet you're hungry-Oh my gosh!" Maya yelled as she heard a crash coming from Akira's room.
When she entered the room, Maya saw Akira holding onto a hammer. He must have found the toolbox and got into it.
"No, Akira. That's not a toy!" Maya said, taking the hammer away from the baby. "I should have hidden the tools when I put your toys in the corner. How did you even open the box?" She looked at the lock and saw that it had been snapped off. Closer inspection revealed a baby hand grip imprinted on the lock.
"Okay, so that answers the question of how you got into the toolbox. Now, where did you hide the screwdriver?" Maya said, looking for the missing tool.
She heard Akira giggle and turned her head to see the missing tool in the child's hand.
"You can't use that as a teething ring." Akira suddenly sneezed, causing Maya to literally be blown away into the closet.
"Okay…" Maya groaned, pushing the doors open, "How are you doing this?"
Akira just stared at his mother and drooled.
Maya walked out of the closet, her back cracking. "It's gotta be because you're an alien," she muttered to herself. She walked over to the crib and looked at the child.
"Okay, I have two choices. I can call NERV and get them to take you in, or I can keep you hidden." She said, putting the tools back into the toolbox. "I think NERV would probably be a better choice, but you might end up a lab rat. If I hide you, then I'd be risking you blowing a hole through the roof."
Akira stared at his mother and Maya looked at the baby, sighing.
"Well, you're a little too young to answer that."
"Mama," Akira said, causing Maya to drop the tools and stare at her son.
"Did- did you just say, mama?!" She inquired kneeling in front of him.
Akira smiled and reached his hands out, giggling."Mama!" He repeated once more, exciting Maya.
Maya squealed, picking up the baby and kissing his face, "My baby boy's first words!"
Akira giggled. He loved being held by his mother. He felt safe and secure, knowing she would do everything to protect him.
Maya carried Akira out of the nursery and sat down on the couch, the baby in her lap. As she did, she noticed the green crystal she had taken from Akira's ship. It was currently glowing a faint green, as it was reacting to something. Or someone.
"Hmm, that's weird." She said, taking a closer look at the crystal. It looked it was faintly glowing as if it was reacting to Akira's presence.
Akira saw the green crystal and immediately tried to grab it. Maya held him back.
"No, no. You're not gonna play with this, it's dangerous." She said, setting the crystal down. Akira pouted and grabbed it anyway, causing a light to flash and a hologram of a man to appear. The man was around Maya's age with white hair and Akira's blue eyes. His clothing was robe-like in appearance. What really got Maya's attention, was the same S on the man's chest.
"My son…" The man said, his voice soft and calming, "If you're hearing this message, then it means that you have successfully survived the destruction of our homeworld and have been found by a loving family."
"Whoa..." Maya breathed, her heart thumping loudly in her chest. "That must be..."
"By the time you see this, my son, I will have been dead for quite some time. You do not remember me…. I am Jor-El," the man continued, his voice growing sad, "Your father," Something else made Maya's mouth drop as she saw a woman who looked almost exactly like her, wearing similar clothing to Jor-El, "This is Lara Lor-Van. Your mother."
"Holy crap..." Maya said, staring at the hologram."She looks just like me! Well, me ten years later, but still, the same facial features. And the hair. Wow." She then noticed Lara's chest size and compared it to her own, "Damn it." It seemed even an alien doppelgänger was blessed with bigger breasts than she was.
Akira looked at his mother and reached up to her, making a grabby motion with his hands. Maya sighed and picked him up, smiling when he put his head on her chest.
"On Earth, you will be given untold power due to the lighter gravity and the yellow sun that this planet orbits," Jor-El said.
"Wait, what?" Maya asked.
"You are the last survivor of Krypton. A world on the edge of the galaxy. Its destruction was our own doing and as our son, you were supposed to have perished with us. But I realized that the sins of the father should not be placed on the child. So, I sent you here to this distant world, the planet Earth. A world where you can be safe, a world where you can grow up without fear of being harmed or killed. I hope that you can make a new life for yourself." The hologram flickered and a boom was heard from the recording.
"I fear that we don't have much time," Lara whispered, her voice soothing and maternal.
"Kal-El, you are our greatest joy and hope. Remember, always keep an open mind. We love you. Goodbye, my son." Jor-El finished.
Maya was silent as the recording faded. So Akira, or rather, Kal-El was a refugee. She could understand why. She would have done the same if she was a parent. But that still left the question: where were his biological parents? They're dead. The thought echoed in her head. Gone with the rest of Krypton. She held the baby closer, a sad feeling growing in her heart.
"I'm sorry, sweetheart," Maya said. She could almost feel the pain emanating from the boy. Akira looked up at his mother and smiled. It was a weak smile, but a smile nonetheless. "Don't worry. I'll make sure no one ever hurts you." Maya said, hugging her baby close.
"Mama," Akira repeated, his voice soft.
Maya kissed his head, "You're okay, little one." Akira snuggled into his mother's chest, making a happy sound. "I'm gonna have to find a way to hide your powers, aren't I?"
Akira just cooed, drooling all over Maya's shirt.
Maya chuckled, now rocking him to sleep. "I'm sure I'll figure something out..."
