Sheppard quickens his pace and reaches Rosalie at the same time as the rest of his team, holding Rosalie's arm so she would stop.
-"We need to return to the city and inform Weir of what we found."
-"That's a waste of time, time we could be using to save those people."
-"Rosalie, we don't know what we're walking into. We need a plan."
-"The plan is simple: go to the address and free everyone that the Genii has imprisoned."
-"In case you haven't noticed, there's only five of us and one isn't exactly a fighter."
-"Hey!" - McKay protests, even though he knows it's true.
-"Shut up, Rodney. If anything, we need backup." - Sheppard continues.
-"Then, we'll send McKay back with the address and let him tell Elizabeth what's happening."
-"That's not how this works and you know it."
-"You know what? I'm going. You can come with me or go back to Atlantis, either way I'm going." - Rosalie turns her back and starts walking in the direction of the gate.
-"Agggghhhh. Stop Rosalie. We'll inform Weir via radio and ask for back up, before going to the address. Does that work for you?" - The sarcasm is pretty clear as he spoke that last sentence.
-"Fine. But make it fast. Only God knows what they might be going through."
The flight back to the gate was a silent one, the tension that enveloped everyone was so thick that almost suffocated them. Rosalie was still pissed, if it was because of the delay or because of the whole situation, none of them knew. As for Sheppard, it was clear that he was ready to punch someone. So, the less anyone said, the safer.
Sitting in the jumper, while hearing Sheppard give Elizabeth an abbreviated version of what they had found, Rosalie can't help but think they are wasting time. They could've easily had sent McKay back and met the reinforcements on the planet. But she knows she has to somewhat play by Sheppard's rules, if she is to have any chance at rescuing Chantria, Bassel and Ollie.
Her thoughts are interrupted when she hears Elizabeth give them the go ahead, as well as saying that Captain Hernandez and his team will assist them. Hope fills her like a balloon, but that balloon is quickly popped when she hears Elizabeth saying that it's just a recon mission and Sheppard agreeing.
"Is he serious right now?", Rosalie is dumbfounded as she looks at him. Sheppard knows what these people have been through and he agrees to a simple recon mission? It's at times like these that Rosalie sometimes misses being on her on, not having to answer to anyone or waiting for anyone.
Sheppard knows that as soon as Elizabeth said it's a recon mission that Rosalie wasn't happy, and he doesn't even need to look at her. He can feel the passive-aggressiveness radiating from her. He knows that if Rosalie sees a chance at freeing everyone, she will take it, no matter what he or anyone else says. He just hopes this isn't headed for disaster.
The gate comes alive and the team watches as Captain Hernandez and his team come through in their own jumper, bringing McKay's latest invention with them, something that will help them determine if it is safe to cross the gate or not.
It turns out that one of McKay's side projects was turning a full MALP into a sort of drone with all the things that the traditional MALP has. He had kept it a secret, only telling Elizabeth and Zelenka, because it had yet to be properly tested, but given the situation they were walking into, he figured it would help them check if the gate was manned and, at the same time, was a great opportunity to test it out.
They quickly unload the portable MALP, as McKay calls it, and dial the new address before heading through the gate as soon as McKay gives the all clear. Rosalie sits in the back, hoping and praying that they hadn't taken too long and that there's still time to save them all.
