Sometimes Nora wasn't as smart as Arthur thinks or gives her credit, even with her age, she was much older than him.
Shes been testing a new type of modified stealth boy that covered even the sound of the steps and movement of the fabric, although the silicone and leather suits didn't make much noise this was a project shes been working since a long time with Thinker Tom.
Arthur was on the command deck, gazing at the horizon like he did…most of the time actually, that place was like his office he had to be there on the waiting someone needs him despite having actually nothing to do at the moment. This was risky, and bold, because there was the guards at the entrance of the place, guards in power armor actually, but she had the nerv…
So, in the stairs ahead that place she used the stealth boy and…went down, luckily her work was doing the purpose, covering her steps on the metal ladder, even with her heavy boots it was working very well, she expected to be more noisy but nope, the man did a good job!
At getting on the ground she crawled, and walk slowly, had her hair tied up to not make strange bright and oh my it was working! The paladins and guards weren't noticing her! Sweet!
At crossing the entrance frame…there it was…her prey, on his back, Nora step up slowly over him, watching directly at his neck, licking her lips in excitement of oh my gosh this was working so well! She extended her arms and…jump over him!
-Surprise! -but as soon she clung on his neck Maxson had stabbed her with a combat knife on the shoulder, making her scream out and loud surprised. The man open wide his eyes in surprise at hearing the voice twice and figured out the tone- motherfucker! –he heard and then drop the knife, still on her shoulder, he cant see shit, all he sees is shades of light and distortion moving in the air.
-Nora!? –he asked, looking back as a body fall to the ground, taking some steps back to see better, trying to distinguish, obviously the paladins enter in the room also excited and surprised on what the hell is going on- Nora is that you!? –he asked, closing his eyes he can see better the woman clinging and closing her legs around her body
-This was a bad idea…-she said curling in the ground, holding on the knife with her hands, shit it hurtshurtshurtshurts.
-What did you do!? –ask the elder all panicked.
-Is she using a stealth boy!? –ask one of the guards, looking close at the bright of light in the ground. The elder seems scared but not in danger…
-I tried to give you a surprise…-she said crawling in the ground to the next wall, still holding on the knife.
-Im so so sorry! –said Arthur and then she appeared visible to everybody, the effect of the stealth boy was over, he ran towards her covering his mouth in astonishment when he saw her shoulder bleeding.
-Don't be –she mumble, gosh this hurts to bad, she closed her teets and bite her tongue trying to hold on the pain, smiling stupidly- you motherfucker…-well, indeed, Arthur thought
Before any of the guards can think anything about her language and expressions the elder order to protect her.
-Bring Knight Cade over here! –said the elder and one of them ran away to the top floor.
-Sentinel why would you do this!? –ask one of the guards. Yes what the hell!?
-I was just trying to hug and surprise you…-she said laughing- I guess it wasn't a good idea try to surprise a elite soldier from behind.
-Im sorry! –said Arthur also looking were the knife was oh my gosh he just reacted to be holded tight from behind, all his life he was trained to be prepared for any ambush or be assassinated so he really knew how to defend himself from surprise but…
-Don't be –she said touching the combat knife, shutting her eyes- my fault!
-Im really sorry! –the knife was buried really deep into her shoulder oh gosh.
-Sentinel how did you enter!? We didn't hear you at all! –ask a guard looking at the mess of now visible blood on the floor.
-I was testing a new model of stealth boy…-she said biting her lip trying to hold on the pain. The soldier open wide his eyes, well it was expected from the second most powerful soldier on the zeppelin I guess, there was a reason she was sentinel tho, sneaking into the elders guard like that…
-I didn't want to stab you I was just…!
-Defending yourself I know…-her hand left her own shoulder to place over his and reassure the elder but then the flow of blood started to feel down warm and liquid so she hold up on her own wound- my bad.
Knight Cade cross the frame and see the sentinel on the ground bleeding, he sighted tired gosh this woman was a headache.
-Just a knife? –ask the bald man, Arthur nodded- pick her from the legs, don't touch the upper part of her body, Sentinel, hold with your good arm okay? –she nodded and cling on his neck now this fucking time for real, Arthur slip his arms under her legs and there he was having her sitting on her arms- you both ask somebody to clean this mess-there wasn't much blood tho but the guards obeyed.
-This was very stupid coming from you –said Arthur to her, worried as shit looking at her shoulder, Nora had a serious gaze.
-I know –she said, the three of them were walking to the infirmary.
-Just imagine if I was the one jumping from behind…-he had a bad taste in his mouth, never never ever wanted to attack her or cause any harm.
-I wouldn't give you the chance the even approach me–she said with a confident smile, still with a lot of pain.
-Very cocky to be knocked out like this–he muttered, feeling a bit ashamed that the soldiers around were looking at him in this situation, often being with her means having this weird moments.
Truth is Nora let herself fall to the ground and didn't keep fighting because she didn't feel like it, because she wasn't there for a fight, she just surrended but it wasn't the first time she was stabbed in the shoulder, just didn't want to fight Arthur obviously.
Once she was sitting on the gurney Cade started to check on the wound, taking with his experienced hands the combat knife out and replacing it with bandages and cottons, cleaning the wounds and stitching it, stopping the bleeding.
-Its not that bad –said the bald man trying to reassure the elder, still, he felt horrible, bad.
-Don't ever do that to me again –he muttered to her, annoyed, now he had this horrible feelings on his chest, this anguish…
-I know Im sorry –she said looking up trying to hold on the tears.
-I cant ever relax to receive a "surprise", im the elder, im too important to let my guard down
-It was dumb, im never doing it again
-What modifications does your stealth boy has? –ask the bald man trying to move off the bad mood between the couple, still cleaning with a cotton.
-Sound, not much about the light but it mask the sounds coming from the body with the new effect, same with the fluids and smells –she said and then bite her finger, trying to not cry of pain at the stiches.
-Interesting –said the knight, fearing a bit for the elders life, although he did defense himself it was mostly because she didn't attack him, but in another scenario she clearly had the advantage- your voice too?
-Not that much, just the low sounds, like steps, clothing and breathing –she said trembling in pain- can I use some med-x?
-No fucking way –said Arthur biting on his tongue, annoyed- think on what you did and suffer the consequences Sentinel –oh gosh he was upset, very very upset, much more than Nora anticipated if it for some reasons the surprise goes wrong.
-Don't be a jack–just before she could keep cursing Cade stich a needle into her white skin.
-Im sorry Sentinel, orders from the elder –said the knight not wanting problems with his supreme commander
-Come on I was just playing –she said laughing nervous, Arthur was pissed off, for her it was just a game! For Arthur it was really stressful to hurt her at all! –give my stealth boy to Nerea maybe she can replicate it and…
-Enough with the funny games, I could hurt you badly, you trigger something very awful in me –the weight of being the elder Maxson, the curse of being the last Maxson, the constant fear of being attacked every time. Oh gosh Cade didn't want to be in the middle of the couple fight- think on his carefully so you it doesn't ever cross a thought on your mind to do it again –the idea of losing her because of this stupid game…what if he stabbed her badly? He was just defending himself like he was trained since little, didn't know it was her at all.
-I said im sorry –Noras body tremble entirely from head to toes when the alcohol burn on the wound- im not repeating it!
-Hell yeah you aren't –he said with a very heavy feeling on his chest, thinking in the possible scenarios where he didn't react to her voice, didn't know it was her.

The elder close his eyes and breath out, calling Cades attention- will you leave us for a second knight? There's a thing I want to discuss privately with the Sentinel –while he talked Cade do the enough so the wound would resist maybe half hour without being intervened
-Of course- he said getting up and out the infirmary, gosh he didn't want to be there
-That was stupid as fuck –he said spitting anger. Really really annoyed.
-I know I realized now –gosh she had the nerve to play the victim and curl like a little girl- sorry
-There's something you need to understand about me: Im careful, as the elder Im supposed to be careful. I must look after every menace in my life all the time. And sadly I cant even relax around the only person I ever felt comfortable. Not to mention I didn't expect you at all doing that –usually Nora didn't care about being scolded but now he look really really upset to not care about
-Yeah –she said nodding, pressing her lips- I understand, im sorry
There was a pressure on the air, something pulling her shoulders down.
-I cannot go soft with anybody, even with you –as much it hurts, he was first Arthur Maxson, the elder of this chapter of the brotherhood of steel, then, second place, Noras lover. She understand there that…he was constantly haunted by his role, more to the core than she imagined before-make this pain a lesson please, I don't want this to ever happen again.
Nora stood for a moment in silence looking at his blue eyes, silence were Arthur feel an immense distress but still she sighted and surrender, nodding with her head, biting on her lips annoyed by the pain.
-Ill be fine –she said low, the punishment was a bit…extreme…but if he really needed it, she will do it even if it was something symbolical more than anything.
-Im sorry –he said, still a bit disturbed about the fact he stabbed her, feeling the combat knife closed around his palm. Never wanted to feel like that again
-Its okay, take this –she said and then throw at him the stealth boy, Arthur pick it and examine it, yeah it was slightly different from a regular one- give it to Nerea, I mean it
-What modifications does it has? –he said looking at some wires there and there…a new battery attached…
-Some new chips and energy…give it to her, I mean it seriously, I was testing it –well it was effective and it works pretty well that's for sure, sneaking into the most powerful mans back without being noticed- a friend of mine did it but use it, for the advance of the brotherhood –bullshit, she is only doing it because he is mad an annoyed but…
-Alright thanks…-he said listlessly, sighing

So…no surprises at the elder…no funny hugs…or next time she will get stabbed in the heart.
