A pair of silver orbs sat by one of the many oak desks that lined the concrete ground of the ground floor level classroom, the classroom was illuminated only by the flame of torches lined to the stone walls. A set of hazel orbs sat besides him, listening intently as the Professor of Magical Theory and Spellcrafting droned on, the Ravenclaw seeker's hazel irises awash with intrigue.
"Tell me why do we use wands ?" Professor Arcanus asked, his voice gruff.
"Err to do magic", A carrot haired boy said.
"Not quite Mr Weasley for I'm sure your aware of wandless magic are you not ?", Inquired the Professor.
"But professor wandless magic is extremely rare only extremely skilled wizards or witches are capable of performing wandless magic." A bushy haired girl said.
"Be that as it may, the existence of wandless magic is proof that wands are not needed to perform magic, so I ask you once more why do we use wands". The brown haired, Professor asked.
"Urgh I don't know professor", Ron answered truthfully.
"To understand that one must first acknowledge the fundamental truth that wizards are not human". The Professor said.
"Not human", The muggle-born girl repeated, in an appalled tone.
"Please allow me to clarify Miss Granger", The Professor said, raising his hand silencing any further objections from the girl.
When no more protests exited the bushy haired girl's mouth, the Professor continued, "Wizards are not fully human, we are sub-human, the anatomy of a muggle and a wizard are almost identical save for minor but crucial differences."
"Differences ?", a boy with black hair, and round spectacles, with emerald orbs said, in a questioning tone.
"Yes Mr Potter, wizards are stronger, faster, more durable, and live longer than muggles". The Professor said, answering the boy who lived's question.
A low voice belonging to a pair of hazel orbs spoke, "Professor but I don't understand how this can be due to anatomical differences ?", The Ravenclaw seeker said.
"The reason why wizards are stronger, faster, more durable, and live longer than muggles Miss Chang is due to our magical cores, magical cores augment our bodies, this is what makes us stronger, faster, more durable, and able to live longer than muggles." The Professor explained.
"Professor does the magical core do anything else ?" Inquired the bushy haired girl.
"Well, Miss Granger when wizards use magic they are drawing upon the magical energy in their bodies that can only be channeled thanks to the magical core." The Professor explained.
The brows of the students collectively furrowed as they took in this new information.
"A wizard's magical core never stops growing unless under one specific circumstance". The Professor explained, his voice turning grave.
"Never ?" The carrot haired boy said, incredulous.
"Never, Mr Weasley do you know why Hogwarts students start their education when they turn eleven years old ?" The Professor asked, the carrot haired boy.
When the boy shrugged his shoulders in return the Professor continued, "From the age of eleven up until eighteen the magical core of a wizard grows at its fastest, and as such needs continual use to remain stable, This is why Hogwarts as well as most wizarding schools start at the age of 11."
A voice belonging to a set of silver orbs inquired, "What's the exception Professor ?"
Professor Arcanus's eyes turned dark, and his voice took on a steely tone answering, "An Obscurial."
Upon seeing the looks of confusion wash over the faces of his students the Professor continued, "An obscruial is a witch or wizard who is the host of an obscurus."
"What's an Obscurus". A student asked.
"To understand what an obscurus is, you must first understand that the relationship between a wizard and their magical core is symbiotic. A magical core needs a steady supply of magic for growth, enabling the wizard to control their magic flow." The Professor explained.
"An Obscurus typically forms in young wizards, though rare cases exist where older wizards, after experiencing trauma, out of loathing of themselves repress their magical abilities. This conflict between their magical core's hunger for magic and their desire to suppress it results in the magical core consuming the wizard's own magic to contain the Obscurus. However, this destabilizes the magical core, causing it to eventually break free in violent, unpredictable bursts of uncontrolled magic."
Amid a sea of horror stricken faces, one brave student asked, "But how do wands play into this ?"
"Wands allow for us to direct our magic in a safer, more controlled and more potent manner". The Professor said.
"But how did wands come about, surely their must have been a time without the existence of wands ?", a bushy brown haired girl asked.
"Indeed there was Miss Granger, it was the ancient Greeks who invented what we call proto-wands precursors to modern wands, these proto-wands were rudimentary, and unstable. But these proto-wands made them near unstoppable this drew the attention of the Romans who after crushing the Ancient Greeks, stole these proto-wands and greatly improved them making them more stable and potent, these wands were introduced to the British wizarding world by Roman wizarding descendants who allied with William the Conqueror." The Professor finished explaining.
As the class was nearing it's scheduled end, a student voiced a question, "Professor what can you exactly do with spellcrafting ?"
"Beyond making any spell your heart desires, in the wizarding world there are many career opportunities for spellcrafters, some work for research institutions, some earn their living by accepting commissions from clients in return for custom spellcrafting, in fact the Ministry has a burea within the Auror Office called the Burea of Auror Authorized Spellcrafting full of accomplished spellcrafters who create spells for exclusive use by aurors, aurors submit applications detailing the spell they wish to be created, and the ministry pays the fees incurred for the creation for said spell."
At this the crow haired girl's hazel orbs did not miss how the young Malfoy's silver-steel orbs shimmered in intrigue.
