The charms classroom was illuminated by the streams of flames that danced in the wall that was lined by torches. Oak desks thrice lining the stone flooring of the classroom. A set of several stacks of books stood at the front of the classroom, a slender, short statured wizard stood atop the stack of books, a set of round spectacles not to dissimilar to those of the boy who lived's adorned the wizard's face. The wizard stood clad in a black cloak that enveloped his small figure accompanied by a grey waistcoat and a black bow-tie.
The sounds of rubber meeting the ancient stone flooring of the classroom filled the charms chamber as students filtered into the hollow room. The former dueling champion's brown orbs glinted in delight as the students shuffled into their seats, his eyes glinting in a scrutinizing gaze, as his irises narrowed in on a silver-steel orbed boy who sat besides a crow haired girl.
"Welcome to charms my dear students", Professor Flitwick began his voice cheery".
"The word charms is the plural version of the singular word charm, which has its origins from the 12th century old French word charmen meaning incantation, within our magical lexicon charms refers to the category of spells that apply properties to an object or being, or a non-being".
With a swish of his wand, the former dueling champion summoned a flock of feathers, each feather appearing on a student's desk. Professor Flitwick demonstrated the charm.
The crow haired girl's hazel orbs narrowed in on the thin, feather that lay motionless on the oak desk, raising her wand, the Ravenclaw aimed it at the feather and incanted "Wingardium Leviosa", a bead of a silvery, almost translucent wisps shot out of the tip of her wand striking the feather at it's core, the feather slowly rising into the air.
The silver orbed boy's silver-steel irises darted downwards to the feather that lay on the oak desk, clenching his wand tightly in one hand, pointing the tip of the wand at the feather, the young boy incanted "Wingardium Leviosa", whisps of silvery near invisible light, shot out of the boy's wand striking the feather's core, the feather slowly levitating into the air.
"Excellent work Miss Chang, Mr Malfoy, twelve points to Ravenclaw". The former dueling champion praised.
As the class progressed, to varying degrees of success and failure, a bushy haired girl admonished the carrot haired boy beside her for his incorrect pronunciation of the incantation, "It's Leviosa not Leviosar", she said, condescension dripping from her tone.
A look of annoyance washed over the carrot haired boy's face at her admonishing. As the class ended and the students shuffled out of the class, the boy was unable to hold in his frustrations anymore loudly proclaiming "She's a nightmare, honestly ! No wonder she hasn't got any friends".
The bushy haired girl pushed past the carrot haired boy her face stained by tears, an expression of hurt clearly written across her face, clearly jabbing him with her elbows to make sure the boy knew she had heard him. An emerald eyed boy, wearing round spectacles spoke up, "I think she heard you".
The crow haired girl's hazel orbs shimmered in sympathy for the bushy haired girl's plight, wanting to go after the girl in an effort to console her only refraining from doing so due to her lack of familiarity with the girl.
By the time dinner had rolled around, the Ravenclaw seeker sat at the Ravenclaw table, the blonde boy with silver orbs sat beside her on one side, and on her other side sat a girl with reddish brown curls. The crow haired girl's hazel irises scanned the great hall darting all over Gryffindor table in search of the tear-stained bushy haired girl. But the Gryffindor was nowhere to be seen. A few Gryffindors passing by mentioned granger had locked herself in the bathroom crying.
The chattering and consuming that filled the great hall was disrupted by the appearance of a young, slender, pale complexioned, timid looking man who's head was clad in a purple turban screeching, "TROLL IN THE DUNGEON ! Thought you ought to know". The turban clad Professor then fell to the floor of the great hall.
The ensuing panic was disrupted by the former transfiguration professor who sat at the head of the staff table rising from his seat, and loudly proclaiming his voice booming, "PREFECTS, lead your houses back to their respective dormitories immediately".
The shouting of prefects was drowned out by the crow haired girl rising to her feet and darting off in the opposite direction ignoring the shouts from the reddish-brown haired girl and the silver-orbed boy, the two gave chase, arriving at either side of the Ravenclaw seeker demanding to know what she was doing.
"Granger, she's still in the bathroom she doesn't know about the troll." Reasoned the crow haired girl.
"So, let's inform a professor." Suggested Edgecombe.
"There isn't enough time to alert a Professor." Countered, the young Malfoy.
"Draco's right we don't time to find a professor to tell, or to stand here arguing, come on we have to find her." Cho said.
Pushing down the flashes of hesitation that shone in their eyes, Edgecombe and Malfoy, joined the Ravenclaw seeker, in searching for the muggle-born girl. Arriving at the bathroom they were met with the sight of the carrot haired boy whose comments were the cause of the girl's tears, and the boy who lived. The two boys glared hatefully at the young Malfoy.
"What are you doing here Malfoy ?" Spat the emerald orbed Gryffindor.
"He's here because of me, I came to find Granger." Cho said, defending Draco.
The quintet of student's bickering was brought to an abrupt stop as a large shadow was cast over them, the thundering footsteps meant only one thing they had found the troll or rather the troll had found them.
The muggle-born girl was cowering against the wall as if wishing to disappear into it, the carrot haired boy was chucking whatever he could get his hand on against the walls in an effort to confuse the troll. The boy who lived launched himself at the troll locking his arms around the great, big neck of the troll and plunging his wand up the nose of the troll. Edgecombe began trying to distract the troll, Draco and Cho simultaneously used the levitation charm they had learnt today to raise the troll's club above his head and send it crashing down on the troll's head, the troll crashing down to the ground with an audible thud.
Suddenly the emerald clad, stern-faced elderly witch came storming into the bathroom, the potion master and the nervous looking Professor trailing behind her.
"What on earth were you thinking ?" Professor Mcgonogall thundered cold fury in her voice.
"You're lucky you weren't killed. Why aren't you all in your dormitories?" The transfiguration Professor howled.
"Please, Professor Mcgonogall th-they were looking for me." Spoke the timid looking muggle-born girl.
"Miss Granger !" The elderly transfiguration Professor, whirled on the bushy haired girl.
"I went looking for the troll because I – I thought I could deal with it on my own – you know, because I've read all about them." The bushy haired girl began.
"If they hadn't found me, I'd be dead now. Harry stuck his wand up its nose and Ron, and Edgecombe distracted it and Chang and Malfoy knocked it out with its own club. They didn't have time to come and fetch anyone. It was about to finish me off when they arrived."
Well – in that case ...' said Professor McGonagall, glaring at two trios of students. "Miss Granger, you foolish girl, how could you think of tackling a mountain troll on your own ?"
"Four points will be taken from Gryffindor from each of you, for this,' said Professor McGonagall, looking down at the trio of Gryffindors. "I'm very disappointed in you. If you're not hurt at all, you'd better get off to Gryffindor Tower. Students are finishing the feast in their houses."
Turning her glare upon the trio of Ravenclaw students, the transfiguration Professor began, "And four points shall be taken from each of you, for this, you should make your way to Ravenclaw tower". The stern-faced witch declared.
Turning her glare upon the respective trios once more the transfiguration Professor declared, "Well, I still say you were lucky, but not many first or second years could take on a full grown mountain troll, you each win your respective houses four points. Professor Dumbledore will be informed of this, you are dissmissed."
The six students bolted out of the bathroom and bolted off in the direction of their respective common rooms.
