Harry walked up the winding staircase of his apartment building. Every day he wished that his fireplace could be connected to the floo network but alas he lived in a mixed neighbourhood, muggles and magicals, and the ministry refused his connection application.
He paused on the fifth floor and checked his watch. It was late, later than he normally got home but he was still home with enough time to grab a quick bite before the fireworks show was scheduled to start. If he was right, his balcony should have a spectacular view of the show seeing as he overlooked the harbour.
Once he made it to his floor, the eleventh, he sauntered down the hall to apartment 11C. He paused for a moment before he put his key in the lock and looked over at his neighbour's door. It had been a while since he had last seen Oliver, conflicting schedules are likely to do that, so Harry decided to take action.
He shuffled over to 11D and knocked on the door. Harry frowned when he heard a thump followed by a crash and then a high pitched, "Be right there!" called out.
Harry waited patiently for another two minutes before the door in front of him was pulled open and Oliver's head appeared in the crack, his hair stuck up in all different direction and a blush on his cheeks.
"Hey Harry, what can I do for ya?"
"Am I interrupting something?" Harry answered with his own question.
"Nope. Nothing. Do you need something?"
"Well, I was just wondering if you wanted to join me for dinner tonight. Firework show starts in thirty and thought it might be fun to watch. We haven't hung out in quite a while."
"I-I…Umm, I can't tonight. I'm sorry."
"That's alright, some other time, yeah?" Harry said with a carefree shrug.
"Definitely. Talk soon," Oliver said and all but slammed the door shut in Harry's face.
"I definitely interrupted something," Harry muttered to himself as he unlocked his door and entered his apartment.
Harry woke up the next morning and prepared his morning tea. He had slept in, so he skipped his normal breakfast and hurried out the door, travel mug in hand.
Just as Harry locked his door, he hear Oliver's door open as well and he watched, in complete shock, as Percy Weasley stepped out of Oliver's flat and gave the man a kiss goodbye.
Oliver's door closed and Harry cleared his throat to draw attention to himself. Percy spun in his direction; the shock clear on his face.
"Potter," Percy said stiffly, his posture was stiff, and Harry felt like Percy was just one comment away from disapperating right there in the corridor and it wouldn't matter if it was illegal.
"Percy," Harry said with a nod, "So, how long has this been going on?"
"You can't tell anyone, Potter. Please."
Harry's eyebrows flew up on his forehead, he had not expected that reaction, but then again, he and Percy didn't have the best relationship.
"I won't tell anyone. I only asked because Oliver is my friend, and I was surprised he kept this to himself. He's normally such a chatterbox."
"Ah. Yes, well. I asked Oliver to not tell anyone. I'm not quite ready to tell my family yet."
Harry just nodded and then motioned to Percy to lead the way to the staircase.
"I get that. But you should know that your family isn't going to care. Sure, they'll tease, but that's only because you're in a relationship at all. Not because of who you're in a relationship with."
"Thanks, Potter," Percy said with a smile.
"You can call me Harry you know. It does look like we'll be seeing more of one another."
"Right."
The pair walked in silence as they descended the winding staircase. Once they reached the main lobby Percy reached out to grab Harry's bicep to pull him to a stop, "For what it's worth, I'm sorry."
"Sorry?" Harry asked with a head tilt.
"For how I treat you. It took far too long to realize that I was very out of line. I-I…I'm just sorry," Percy stumbled.
"Forgiven," Harry stated, "To be honest, I had forgiven you a long time ago. You were just doing your job."
"Have a good day, Harry." Percy said as he stepped into the room that was designated for apparition within the building.
Harry nodded and left the building and went about his day. He couldn't wait for the day that Ron found out about Percy and Oliver it was bound to blow his friend's mind.
