Chapter 54

Standing on the rooftop, Spider-Man fretted over how to save Mike if he couldn't even find him. At least until he felt his Spider-Sense tingling and drawing him towards a certain area and he remembered.

'Alright, Mike managed to activate the watch, now I can get to him...I thought I'd have to go blind, the way he was tied up.' Spider-Man realized in relief. 'Alright, here I come Mike, I'll save you. You're in trouble now Venom.'

With that he swung off, following the tingling of his Spider-Sense which grew stronger as he got closer and sure enough, he soon realized where he was going. Upper West Side, he just had to find out where within the Upper West Side. As he drew closer he began to grow anxious. He could find Mike like this, but what about Venom, Venom was still invisible to his Spider-Sense and could easily hide and use Mike as a lure.

'Nothing I can do about it, gotta save Mike.' He thought seriously.

He prepared himself, the tension building within him, as he reached the building, it looked like an old factory of some sort. Following the signal Spider-Man swung up onto the roof of the building and when he landed his eyes widened.

"Mike."

Mike's eyes widened and he struggled, he was still clearly bound with the webs, his mouth still covered. But he did not need to worry or try to warn Spider-Man, it was an obvious trap.

Grimacing Spider-Man knew full well that this was a trap, it was so obvious, however he knew why. Venom wasn't explicitly trying to trick him, he wanted to fight him, therefore the trap was obvious solely as a way to mock him.

"Where are you Venom?" He called out. "I'm here now."

"You took your time, Spider." Venom's guttural voice growled.

Spider-Man noticed Mike gesturing with his head and nodded, he knew what he was trying to tell him. So, ready and prepared for it, using Mike's warning to his advantage he replied.

"You'll pay for this, you deliberately waited until this attack happened before kidnapping Mike, didn't you?"

He advanced slowly towards Mike, ready to act.

"We honestly thought you'd simply come and save him." Venom scoffed. "The boy's not so precious to you after all, is he?"

Spider-Man snarled. "I have a responsibility to people, to save them from danger...besides, I already know the sort of person you are. I knew you were simply using Mike as a lure and in that case, you needed him safe."

There was a stony silence and then, with a growl, Venom leapt from the very location Mike had been nodding towards. So Spider-Man was ready and quickly blasted a web at Venom, blocking his eyes and allowing him to dodge as Venom hit the ground and struggled back to his feet.

"Curse you, curse you!" He roared as he tore the webbing from his face.

But that was all the opening Spider-Man needed and had already closed in.

Before Venom could react, Spider-Man was upon him, attacking heavily, punch after punch, doing his best to soften him up.

"I know all about you Venom, the sort of creature you are, the danger you pose." He snarled at him. "I will deal with you and yes, I'm even saving Billy from you."

Venom finally countered and managed to grab Spider-Man by the throat and held him up.

He laughed darkly. "We cannot be separated, you can attack us all day and never hurt us. You fool, we are one and your anger will be your end….We will gladly take you as our new host!"

Spider-Man knew this wasn't going to happen and that now was the time. Mike was still there, eyes wide and struggling and trying to speak, watching in horror. That was the key part, Mike was counting on him. Struggling a little, he managed to cover up what he was actually doing and then, with a sudden movement he took aim at Venom and hit him with a sonic blast from the device Dr. Connors gave him. Venom let go of him with a cry of agony, staggering back and grabbing at his head, clearly trying to cover his ears.

"WHAT, NO!" Venom screamed. "How-!"

Standing ready, Spider-Man glared. "Not so confident now, are you. Time for you to pay."

Venom growled but before he could attack again, Spidey hit him with another sonic blast. This time he noticed the Symbiote's flailing was partially flailing off of Billy. But then it was back to normal, still it gave him hope, an opening.

But Venom wasn't going to just let that happen clearly as he launched himself at Spider-Man and they ended up falling over the side and began pummelling each other, until Venom threw Spider-Man at the building, sending him through the window and having him land inside, flat on the ground. Slowly lifting himself up he groaned.

'Urgh, this is not good, I…' He looked up and noticed his surroundings, the interior of the building. 'Perfect.'

Behind the mask, he grinned, Venom had just made a mistake and now Spidey had the advantage.
