One evening, Ember was in her father's library playing with some toys and with Umbra, her demon kitten. She recently completed being grounded for 2 weeks after disobeying her father and putting her friends in danger. Even so, she has become more popular at her school along with her best friend Isfrid.
But she still felt upset with disappointing her parents, even though her privileges were given back to her. Just then, the Devil entered the library, grabbed a book from his bookshelf, sat in his fine chair and opened it to read the latest chapter.
After a while, the Devil noticed Ember being awfully quiet while playing with her toys and Umbra. The Devil decided to pause his reading, left a bookmark inside and put his book away.
"So, Ember. You've been awfully quiet lately." The Devil said to her.
Ember just laid on the carpet, not speaking a word as she continued to play. This concerns the Devil as Henchman comes in with a cart carrying a teapot and 2 cups.
"Hey, boss! Hey, Ember! Are we having a nice, peaceful evening?" Henchman asked happily.
Ember briefly glanced at Henchman, then continued playing with her toys and Umbra.
"Hmm." Henchman said, concerned.
The Devil gestured Henchman to talk privately and pointed at Ember. Henchman realized what was happening and nodded.
First, he pours a cup of tea for Ember. He gives it to her by placing it next to her on a tea plate.
"Here, drink it up before it gets cold." Henchman said before patting her head and leaving.
Ember ignored him and kept playing.
The Devil and Henchman leave and go behind a rock.
"Duh, what's wrong boss? What's Ember's deal?" Henchman asked.
"Ugh! She's still not talking to me! I know she hated being punished by me grounding her, but it was all to teach her a valuable lesson! I don't know what to do!" The Devil answered frustratingly.
"Boss, it's what all kids do after they're grounded. They'll get upset and resent their parents, but they'll eventually learn overtime it was for their own good and things will go back to the way they were." Henchman assured him.
The Devil sighed and folded his arms.
"Maybe you and Ember should have another heart-to-heart talk. But don't get mad or frustrated at her. You need to let her know that you love her no matter what and that she means a lot to you." Henchman advised.
The Devil thought for a moment and realized Henchman was right.
"Maybe you're right, Henchman. I do need to tell her that." The Devil said.
Henchman placed his hand on his boss's arm, encouraging him to talk to his daughter.
The Devil took a deep breath and goes back to the library. Henchman watched from behind the rock as he witnessed his boss lifting Ember up in his arms and carries her to his fine chair. He sits down and has Ember sit on his lap.
"Ember, I know you're still upset about the whole 'being grounded' thing, but I did it to teach you a valuable lesson." The Devil explained.
"But father, I didn't mean to disobey you. I just let my curiosity get the best of me." Ember finally spoke up.
"Ember, I'm telling you this because I love you. You mean everything to me. I don't wanna lose you." The Devil said, remembering Henchman's advice.
Ember looked guilty as she hung her head down. The Devil lifted her head, getting her attention.
"I'm talking to you." The Devil corrected her.
Ember briefly lifted her head up.
"Look, if I didn't get there in time, that gorilla would've killed you and I wouldn't have known what to do. Even your mother would've been devastated." The Devil pointed out.
Ember's eyes popped, realizing her father was making a point.
"I-I- I guess you're right?" Ember asked.
"You guess…?" The Devil asked, hinting something.
Ember sighed.
"Okay. You are right." Ember corrected her sentence.
"That's my girl." The Devil said approvingly and gives her a kiss.
"So, are we good? Can we put all this behind us?" The Devil asked.
Ember thought for a moment and smiled.
"I'd like nothing better father." Ember answered.
The Devil hugs Ember as she returned him a hug. The Devil looked behind him and saw Henchman giving him a 'two thumbs up', approving of the talk.
"Now, what do you say we head on to dinner? Then we'll have radio time together." The Devil asked as he lifted Ember and stood up from his chair.
"Okay." Ember said.
The Devil carries Ember to the dining room with Umbra following behind along with Henchman. They both sit down at the dining table and Henchman served them pork chops with a side of quinoa and roasted squash.
After dessert, the Devil and Ember sit down on his throne as Henchman turned on the radio to their favorite radio channel with jazz music. Ember started to feel better as she started to fall asleep in her father's lap. The Devil stroked Ember's head, making her smile.
After the radio show, the Devil carries a sleeping Ember to her bedroom, magically changed her into her nightgown, brushed her teeth and tucked her into bed. Umbra leapt up on the bed and snuggled and purred next to Ember's head.
"You need to know that I love you, no matter what Ember." The Devil whispered in Ember's ear.
The Devil gives Ember a kiss, petted Umbra and leaves and locks her bedroom. The Devil prepares to go to bed when he noticed Henchman smiling at him.
"Great job boss. You made amends with your daughter." Henchman complimented.
"Thank you, Henchman. Now, is my bed ready?" The Devil asked.
"Yes, it is boss." Henchman answered.
"Excellent." The Devil said, approvingly.
The Devil enters his bedroom, noticing his bed has been neatly made with a corner of his blanket tiled over. The Devil pulls his blanket over, hops into bed and snuggles under the covers.
"Good night, boss." Henchman said.
"Good night, Henchman." The Devil answered back.
Henchman turns out the lights, closes the door and leaves his boss's bedroom. The Devil puts on his sleeping mask and goes to sleep.
The next morning, Ember wakes up to get ready for school. Ember goes into her bathroom to brush her teeth when she looked into her mirror and makes a shocking discovery. Ember discovered red spots all over her body.
"What the? Red spots?!" Ember asked, feeling nervous.
"I gotta undo this! I can't be seen looking like a cheetah!" Ember said, now panicking.
Just then, she heard Henchman knocking at her bedroom door.
"Ember? Are you awake?" Henchman called.
"Uh, yes, I am! I'm just not dressed yet!" Ember lied.
"Don't worry, I won't look. I'm coming in!" Henchman called.
Ember had to act fast, so she magically dresses herself in a hooded cloak, wears a black mask and black gloves to cover every inch of her skin to avoid her spots being seen.
"Ember? Is everything okay in there?" Henchman asked.
"Yes, Henchman! I was just brushing my hair and teeth!" Ember lied.
"Well, come on for breakfast! Your father's waiting!" Henchman called.
Ember took a deep breath and hesitantly stepped out of the bathroom. Henchman's eyes popped at Ember's bizarre outfit.
"Oh, uh… very nice… I guess?" Henchman nervously complimented.
"Thank you, Henchman. I just wanted to look different today, that's all." Ember lied.
"Henchman! What's taking Ember so long?!" The Devil called.
"Uh, nothin' boss! We're coming right now!" Henchman nervously called back.
"Come on, we can't keep him waiting!" Henchman quickly said.
Both Ember and Henchman hurry to the dining area where the Devil waited. To the Devil's shock, he stares at Ember's strange outfit.
"Uh, Ember? What's with the new look?" The Devil asked.
"Uh, I just wanted to look different today. That's all." Ember lied as she started to scratch her skin, noticing her spots were itching.
The Devil gives her a suspicious look, not believing her story. He gets up from his seat and walked over to Ember.
"Ember? Is there something you're not telling me? I thought we don't keep anymore secrets from each other." The Devil reminded her.
Ember cringed, knowing she can't lie to her father.
"Take off that ridiculous outfit and tell me what's going on." The Devil ordered her.
Ember sighed, then she hesitantly takes off the cloak.
"The gloves!" The Devil scolded.
Ember took off her gloves but hid her hands under her arms. The Devil immediately notices Ember is hiding something.
"And your mask!" The Devil added.
Ember shook her head.
"Ember…" The Devil warned.
Ember sighed, then she finally took off her mask but ducked her head to avoid contact. The Devil immediately loses patience.
"Ember! Why won't you look at me…?!" The Devil said as he lifted Ember's face up, making the Devil's eyes widen at the sight of her red spots.
"What the? Where did those red spots come from?" The Devil asked, grabbing her hands and notcing the spots all over her body.
"I don't know! I woke up and saw them this morning and now they itch so bad!" Ember cried as she continued itching.
"Uh oh! Ember's got chickenpox!" Henchman exclaimed.
"Chicken what?" The Devil asked.
"Chickenpox. It's an infectious disease that causes a mild fever and a rash of itchy blisters. Most children get it, it goes away within a week or so depending on the illness and then she'll become immune to it when she gets older." Henchman explained.
"But the only times those ever happened were to Priscilla and Timothy but not me or Joy! Mama had to take care of them for a long time!" Ember complained.
"Hmm. Henchman! Phone Professor Cyfrin! Let her know what's happening to Ember!" The Devil ordered.
"Duh, yes boss!" Henchman said and saluted.
Henchman goes up to the telephone picked up the receiver.
"Get me Professor Cyfrin at the Inkwell Isle School for Supernaturally Gifted Youth please." Henchman said to the operator.
At the school, Professor Cyfrin was inside her office sipping her tea when her secretary knocked.
"Come in." Professor Cyfrin called.
The secretary, an elder anthropomorphic sea serpent with eight tentacles wearing glasses entered the office with a telephone.
"Yes, Mrs. Inkworth?" Professor Cyfrin asked.
"Professor Cyfrin, phone call!" Mrs. Inkworth announced.
"Very well then." Professor Cyfrin said.
She takes the phone from the secretary's tentacle and held the phone.
"Professor Amelia Cyfrin speaking." Professor Cyfrin announced.
"Duh, hi Professor. This is Henchman, the Devil's well henchman. Listen, his daughter Ember has come down to a bad case of chickenpox!" Henchman answered.
"Oh my! That's terrible, would it be alright with the Devil if I sent our school nurse to the underworld to check her condition?" Professor Cyfrin asked.
"Hold on, ma'am." Henchman said and placed the phone down.
"Duh, boss! The headmistress wants to know if it's alright with you that she sends their school nurse down here to look at Ember!" Henchman called his boss.
"Fine! Whatever it takes!" The Devil called back.
Henchman gets back on the phone with Professor Cyfrin.
"Duh, yes ma'am. The boss gives his permission." Henchman answered.
"Thank you, Henchman. I'll have Nurse Belinda take a look at Ember. If it's alright with you, would you come to the school and pick her up in your boss's elevator?" Professor Cyfrin asked.
"Duh, yes ma'am. I'll be right over." Henchman agreed.
"Wonderful. We'll see you in a bit. Goodbye." Professor Cyfrin said as she hung up the phone and left her office to get Nurse Belinda.
Henchman hangs up and heads over to the elevator. He activates it and sets it to the school.
After a while, Henchman arrives at the school and opens the elevator door to the entrance of the school, where Professor Cyfrin and Nurse Belinda, a human-sized white snake with wings, red eyes and wears a nurse hat with a suitcase.
"Ah, Henchman. We've been expecting you." Professor Cyfrin greeted.
"Yes ma'am." Henchman said politely.
"Now then, shall we Nurse Belinda?" Professor Cyfrin asked Nurse Belinda.
"Y-y-y-yes, ma'am." Nurse Belinda said nervously.
"Do not worry yourself Nurse Belinda. The Devil will not harm you he just wants you to look at his sick daughter Ember." Professor Cyfrin assured her.
Nurse Belinda took a deep breath.
"I am s-s-s-sorry ma'am." Nurse Belinda apologized and slithered her speech.
They both enter the elevator. Henchman closed the door and pushed the down button. They travel to Hell until they arrived in the throne room. Henchman opens the door and both women step out.
"Right this way ladies." Henchman said and gestured the women to follow him.
Henchman escorts them to Ember's room where the Devil has Ember lying in bed in her nightgown as he struggled to get her stop itching her blisters.
"Duh, okay boss! They're here! Professor Cyfrin and Nurse Belinda!" Henchman announced.
Professor Cyfrin and Nurse Belinda enter Ember's room.
"Ah, Professor Cyfrin. You're here too?" The Devil asked.
"Yes, Mr. Devil. Nurse Belinda and I need to see what is happening with Ember so we can determine if she should be at school." Professor Cyfrin answered.
"Ah. Makes sense." The Devil said, now understanding.
"Alright then, let's take a look, s-s-s-shall we?" Nurse Belinda said and slithered her speech.
Nurse Belinda slithered up to Ember in her bed. She gets out her equipment from her suitcase with the use of her tail as her only limb. She grabs a mouth stick with her tail.
"Alright, Ember. Stick out your tongue and say 'Ah.'" Nurse Belinda instructed.
"Ah." Ember said and opened her mouth.
Nurse Belinda looked inside her mouth and observed inside. Then, she takes a thermometer and sticks it in Ember's mouth to take her temperature. She notices the thermometer reading at 100 degrees Fahrenheit.
"Oh my! She's got quite a fever! And the rash of blisters are all over her body!" Nurse Belinda said, shocked as she checked Ember's skin.
The Devil's eyes popped, now realizing Ember is really sick.
"What do you make of it Nurse Belinda?" Professor Cyfrin asked.
"She has chickenpox. Very common in youth. She's lucky she's got it at a young age. Chickenpox is bad news if she got it as an adult." Nurse Belinda diagnosed.
"So, what do we do?" The Devil asked.
"Well, Mr. Devil. You must keep Ember at home for a week. Not to be near any of the other children until the blisters go away. To relieve her symptoms, give her baths using oatmeal. It'll reduce the itching. To bring down the fever, have her take a non-aspirin medication like acetaminophen. To relieve more itching, give her some antihistamines and make sure to follow the instructions and the correct dosage. And finally, either keep her nails trimmed and/or put gloves over her hands to keep her from scratching her blisters." Nurse Belinda gave the Devil instructions and grabbed some medication and a box of oatmeal.
"Oh my. Sounds like this is gonna be a while before Ember gets better." The Devil said.
"Yes, Mr. Devil. But keep up with her medication, make sure she doesn't scratch her blisters and have her stay in bed. Keep us up to date on Ember's condition." Nurse Belinda said.
"Alright. I will let Mrs. Atkinson know right away. Come along Nurse Belinda." Professor Cyfrin said, preparing to leave.
"Yes, ma'am." Nurse Belinda said as she packed up her equipment and took her suitcase.
"Henchman, escort these ladies back to the school!" The Devil ordered Henchman.
"Duh, yes boss!" Henchman said and saluted.
Henchman escorts Professor Cyfrin and Nurse Belinda to the elevator and returned them back to the school. After dropping them off, Henchman returned to Hell to assist his boss with caring for Ember.
The Devil has Ember take some acetaminophen to reduce itching.
"Father, I don't like chickenpox." Ember groaned.
"I know sweetheart. But you heard the nurse. You need to stay in bed and rest. A week will fly on by and you'll be all better." The Devil assured her.
"But father…" Ember was about to protest until the Devil placed his finger on her mouth, shushing her.
"No 'buts'. Until you recover, you need to stay in bed. Henchman will bring you tea and some lunch later." The Devil said.
The Devil gets up from her bed and prepared to leave until Ember grasped his hand.
"Daddy, please don't go." Ember pleaded.
The Devil gently stroked her head, calming her.
"Don't worry my little princess. I'll be back in a while to check on you. I'll have Umbra and your broomstick keep an eye on you. That sound good?" The Devil asked.
Ember thought for a moment, then she nodded.
"That's my girl." The Devil said and gave her a kiss on her head.
Umbra and her broomstick hop on her bed as the Devil leaves her bedroom. After leaving her bedroom, the Devil prepares to leave for the casino.
"Henchman, I gotta run to the casino to start my duties. Keep an eye on Ember, make sure she stays in bed and that she doesn't scratch herself, alright? I'll be back in a while." The Devil instructed.
"Yes, boss!" Henchman agreed.
The Devil tapped his pitchfork and disappeared to his casino to start work.
At the Devil's Casino, his manager King Dice makes sure everything is up and running around the games and machines. The Devil arrived to check in on his business.
"Hey, hey boss! Good morning! Everything's running smoothly, more souls stolen and more losers!" King Dice said proudly.
"Excellent." The Devil said, feeling concerned for Ember.
King Dice notices something was wrong.
"Is everything okay boss?" King Dice asked.
"Well, Ember caught chickenpox and the school nurse ordered her to stay home for a week until she gets better. I hope Henchman's making sure she keeps up with her meds and no scratching. She didn't want me to leave her." The Devil answered.
"Aw, boss. I'm so sorry your little girl's sick. But she's gonna be okay. She's in good hands." King Dice tried to assure his boss.
"True. But still…" The Devil said hesitantly.
"Well, it's your call boss. She is your daughter. And once again, I'm sorry for the way I treated her when we first met. None of us knew she was your daughter that day." King Dice apologized.
"Whatever. Just get back to work!" The Devil ordered.
"Yes, boss!" King Dice quickly answered and resumed his duties.
The Devil goes into his office to count his money and souls. He decided to use his magic mirror to check on Ember. He taps it and watches Ember struggling to keep herself from scratching with Umbra and her broomstick trying to help her. Henchman enters her room and delivers her a cup of tea and a bowl of fresh chicken noodle soup with saltine crackers.
Ember eats her soup and drinks her tea, then she tries to settle down for a nap. Henchman patted her head and leaves her bedroom. The Devil sighed of relief, knowing he could count on Henchman to take care of his daughter in his absence.
Back in Hell, Ember decided to take an oatmeal bath.
"Henchman!" Ember called.
Henchman entered her bedroom.
"Yes, Ember?" Henchman asked.
"I wanna take an oatmeal bath. Can you draw me a bath?" Ember asked.
"Sure, Ember. I'll add the right amount of oatmeal to help with your blisters." Henchman agreed.
Henchman took the box of oatmeal and entered her bathroom. Henchman activates the lukewarm water to the right level and added the right amount of oatmeal and stirs it up.
"Okay Ember, the bath's ready!" Henchman called.
Ember enters her bathroom.
"Thank you, Henchman." Ember thanked.
"You're most welcome kid." Henchman said as he patted her back.
He leaves Ember alone, collected her dishes and exits her bedroom.
Ember undresses herself, gets into the bathtub and tries to relax in the lukewarm water. After a half hour of soaking, Ember decided she had enough and drains the bathtub and dried herself off with a towel. She gets dressed back into her nightgown and goes back to bed, now ready for a nap. She dozes off to sleep as Umbra snuggled and purred into her head.
After a while of napping, she hears an explosion sound, knowing her father has come back.
"Ember? Are you awake?" The Devil whispered.
Ember wakes up.
"Yes, father." Ember said as she looked up at her father as he sat down next to her.
"How are you feeling?" The Devil asked.
"Still sick and itchy." Ember answered while trying not to scratch herself.
"Ember, don't scratch." The Devil remined her.
Ember groaned in pain from all the itchiness as tears started rolling down her face.
The Devil thought for a moment and got an idea. He lifts her up in his arms and joins her on her bed as he did before. Ember started crying in his chest as he tries to calm her down.
"Shh, shh, shh. Don't cry Ember. I'm here. I'm here." The Devil soothed her until she calmed down.
The Devil sits with her for a while until she finally went back to sleep. He gets up from her bed, places her down, tucks into bed, kisses her and quietly leaves her bedroom. He has Henchman bring her dinner to her room until it was time for bed.
The next day, the Devil feels overwhelmed by taking care of his daughter and working at the casino. Henchman comes to the dining room with his cart.
"Alright boss, I gave Ember breakfast and I had her take her meds." Henchman reported.
"Good." The Devil answered tiredly.
"Duh, what's wrong boss? You look exhausted." Henchman asked.
"Oh, Henchman. Taking care of my sick daughter and working at the casino is harder than I thought! I don't know what to do!" The Devil answered frustratingly.
"Well, boss. This is part of being a parent. You gotta take care of your child when she gets sick." Henchman explained.
"Ugh! I don't know how Gwen does it with those three other children running around." The Devil said.
"I dunno." Henchman said and shrugged.
"Anyway, I gotta go. Keep an eye on Ember." The Devil said as he gets up from his chair.
He takes his pitchfork, tapped it and disappeared to his casino. Henchman thought for a moment and gets an idea on how to get some extra help with Ember.
At the Hopewell Farm, Gwen was busy cleaning the house while Clarence was at work and the children were at school. Suddenly, she hears the phone ringing and goes to answer the phone.
"Hello?" Gwen answered.
Gwen hears a familiar voice over the phone and her eyes widened.
"Henchman? What do you want?" Gwen asked.
She listened to what he had to say until she gasped.
"Ember? Chickenpox? Well, why didn't you say so? Okay, I'll be over in a minute." Gwen said as she grabbed the magic inkwell and ink pen.
Gwen sighed, fearing of having to go back to Hell. But she realized it was for a good reason, her sick daughter. Gwen tapped her ink pen and disappeared. She appeared in Hell in the throne room where Henchman was waiting for her.
"Duh, hey Gwen. Glad you could come." Henchman greeted.
"Yeah. Anything for my daughter." Gwen said as she started her way to Ember's bedroom.
"We have the medications and stuff the school nurse gave her. But Ember is lonely without her father and is in excruciating pain." Henchman explained.
"Don't worry. Priscilla and Timothy both had chickenpox before. I know how to handle Ember." Gwen said as they approached her old prison bedroom.
"I never thought I'd ever come back here again." Gwen admitted as she stared at the door, recalling some memories.
"Well, thank you for doing this." Henchman thanked.
"Yeah." Gwen said.
She took a deep breath, entered the bedroom and saw Ember lying in bed, trying not to scratch herself. Ember looked over and saw her mother in the doorway and gasped.
"Mama!" Ember happily exclaimed.
Gwen approached Ember in her bed and gives her a hug as Ember started crying into her chest.
"Shh, shh, shh. It's okay Ember. You're gonna be okay." Gwen said soothingly.
Gwen held her daughter until she finally calmed down. Throughout the morning and afternoon, Gwen stayed by Ember's side taking care of her. After giving Ember an oatmeal bath, she settles Ember down for a nap. Gwen attempts to go get her medicine when Ember grasped her hand.
"Please don't go mama." Ember pleaded.
"Sweetheart, I'm just getting your medication. I'll be right back, okay?" Gwen assured her.
"Okay, mama." Ember said.
Gwen goes to get Ember's medication on the drawers. She brings them over to her and has Ember take a pill and gives her a glass of water. Ember held Gwen's hand as she dozed off to sleep in bed.
Gwen was feeling tired herself and decided to scootch on her old bed and held Ember and fell asleep. Ember held her mother's arms, feeling better about not being alone.
"Mama? Could you tell me a story?" Ember asked in her sleep.
"What kind of story?" Gwen asked.
"Your first time being in my room. What was it like?" Ember answered.
"Hmm, well…"
Gwen told Ember about the time Elder Kettle lost a card game to the Devil in disguise and kidnapped Gwen as his prize. He brought her to the prison bedroom and was forced to put up with the Devil for two days until she had to use her acting skills to trick the Devil and escape.
"So, you see, whenever the Devil brought me down here, this room was the closest to comfort I've had. And it's even comfier with you." Gwen finished her story.
"Wow, that's some story mama. I'm happy you came back." Ember said.
"Yes, dear. For you." Gwen said.
Ember snuggled into her mother, and both continued to sleep.
A while later, the Devil appeared in Ember's room. To his shock, he finds Gwen sleeping with Ember in her bed. He quietly approached his daughter and Gwen and looked at them. He placed his hand on Gwen's head, still having feelings for her despite that she's married to Clarence. He leans down to her and gives a kiss on Gwen's cheek. Then, he gives Ember a kiss on her cheek.
He decided to leave them alone to sleep and leaves the bedroom.
The Devil approached Henchman.
"Did you bring Gwen here to help with Ember?" The Devil asked.
Henchman nodded.
"Thank you. Now she has both her parents here to help her." The Devil said.
Henchman nodded.
"Alright then, I should probably get back to the casino. Keep an eye on Ember and Gwen, okay?" The Devil instructed Henchman.
"Yes sir." Henchman agreed.
The Devil teleported back to the casino. Henchman resumed his duties as Gwen helped take care of Ember in the Devil's absence.
Throughout the week, Ember started to recover as her blisters were becoming scabs and her fever was dropping down. Her best friend Isfrid was kind enough to drop by Hell to give the Devil her missing homework to make up during her absence. Ember completes her missing work and has her father deliver them to Mrs. Atkinson to turn in.
One day, Professor Cyfrin and Nurse Belinda stop by Hell again to check Ember's condition. Nurse Belinda checked her temperature, her rash and her symptoms. Nurse Belinda smiled and faced the Devil, Professor Cyfrin, Henchman and Gwen.
"Her symptoms are getting much better; she should be ready to go back to school on Monday." Nurse Belinda announced.
Everybody smiled as Nurse Belinda packed up her suitcase and joined Professor Cyfrin to leave with Henchman escorting them in the elevator. Gwen gives Ember a hug and a kiss.
"I told you; you were gonna be okay." Gwen whispered.
"Thank you, mama. You, Henchman and father." Ember thanked.
The Devil felt touched and decided to give Gwen and Ember a hug, making his family complete.
"Don't get any ideas, Devil. I'm married to Clarence." Gwen reminded him.
The Devil sighed, knowing she was right. After hugging, Gwen grabs her stuff and prepared to leave, only for the Devil to notice something.
"Uh, Gwen?" The Devil asked.
"Yes?" Gwen asked.
"Are you…?" The Devil was about to ask, noticing her pregnant belly.
"Yes, I am. With my fifth child." Gwen answered.
"I'm getting one more brother." Ember added.
The Devil's eyes popped.
"Ah, another son on the way?" The Devil asked.
"Yes. But he's gonna be our last kid." Gwen pointed out.
Gwen gives Ember a kiss goodbye and disappeared back to the farm.
"Oh, Ember. We've got a surprise for you." Henchman announced.
Henchman stepped aside and Ember's friends Isfrid, Marette, Abel and Cliff enter her room. Ember gasped happily at the sight of her best friends.
"Guys! You came!" Ember exclaimed.
"We wanted to Ember. Your father gave the okay for us to come. We got you something." Isfrid said as she handed Ember an envelope.
Ember opens the card, it says 'Get Well'. Ember opens it and reads all the nice compliments her friends, Mrs. Atkinson and fellow classmates wrote to her, making Ember tear up.
"Thanks guys." Ember thanked.
Isfrid jumps on Ember's bed and hugs her. Soon, Marette and Abel join them. Cliff reaches his big arms, wraps the group and hugs them. The Devil watched in confusion at Ember's friends as Henchman smiled with tears in his eyes.
"Quite a friendship group they got." The Devil admitted.
"Yeah boss. Look how happy she is with her dearest friends." Henchman said.
"True." The Devil agreed.
Ember recovered from her chickenpox and returned to school with her friends. Ember appreciated her mother and birth father along with Henchman for being by her side and taking care of her during the worst of times.
