Hey everyone! I wanted to give a big thank you for reading this fic. Anyway, I wanted to clarify some things before proceeding with the story, and it's about the management of the character's names, card effects and roles in the story. First of all, I want to regard that the Fusion Dimension here is both the home of the GX AND Duel Monsters characters, and for why I made that decision instead of implementing the characters from the original series into either placing them on the Standard Dimension or create a Ritual Dimension, is because the gap between the 2 series isn't that far in between considering all the mentions to DM in GX (Pegasus, Seto Kaiba, a whole arc taking place in Domino City and so on.) and that I don't really see a Ritual Dimension happening on this fic (though, I could change my mind as I continue to write this.) due to aside the Standard Dimension, the dimensions are based on Extra Deck summonings, and we have been shown people using Ritual Summons in different dimensions. That in mind, here the events between DM and GX won't be that far like how it was stated that the show takes place 10 years after the ending of the original. Most likely, the timeline would be pretty much after the events of DSOD (Although, the fic will stick to the Anime's events, though I could make mentions to events from the manga pre-Duelist Kingdom.) So it would most likely GX would start 4 years after the ending of DM. Anyways, with the characters of the fic, some of them would have a major relevance than in the original Arc-V or their personalities would be slightly changed, alongside some of the decks that they play (Examples would be Yusho acting more like a responsible parent and an active player helping both the destroyed Xyz dimension and the Academia fugitives rather than being an irresponsible parent that does nothing during the whole series until the Fusion Dimension arc, minors antagonists such as Sanders, Roget and the Doktor having a more prevalent role on the story such as the case for the Doktor acting more often even during standard, Leo Akaba acting more cold and inhumane and actually make him an actual thread to the heroes, and Reiji being more of an extremist but would be called out by his actions.) For the name of the characters, it would be a weird mix between their English and their Japanese names for the sake of familiarity. Basically, characters from DM to 5ds will have their English names while the ones from Zexal to Arc-V will have their original Japanese ones. And finally, I will mix the card effects from both the real-life counterparts and their anime effects. Though, I will stick mostly with their real-life effects from cards from the DM, GX, 5ds, Vrains and SEVENS era (Although, there could be some exceptions such as Card of Sancity) while also sticking to Arc-V's anime effects such as Odd-Eyes effect of inflicting double battle damage against level 5 or higher monsters (Which I would also make exceptions such as Chaos Ancient Gear Giant's summoning conditions now being any Ancient Gear monsters.). Now with all that out of the way, enjoy the fic.
Fusion 1: Welcome to the Academia
(Uptown Springdale/Japan/Fusion Dimension)
The Blue skies of the town of Springdale and its pleasant winds announced a new day for all of its humble and friendly citizens. Springdale is quite the town to live per say. Located on the Tokyo area of Japan, this city possesses a variety of rich culture and history, and peculiar landmarks such as the Excellent Tower and the greenish and mystical Mt. Wildwood, where legends say that supernatural spirits dwell beneath the trees of the ancient woods.
Now, most people would see this place not that out of the ordinary, but for those people who know the existence of Yo-Kai, Springale is perhaps the city with the most paranormal Yo-Kai activity in the world. Yo-Kai from all around the world and time-periods come to this not-so-humble town with desires make all sorts of mischief amongst the humans that live in this friendly town by inspiriting them, for either change their luck for the better or with intents to cause harmless misfortune on them.
At the northern parts of this town, it's located the Uptown area of Springdale, where our hero of this story lives, on a normal and not-out of the ordinary room.
Nathan's room hasn't changed that much through the years, despite now being on his late teens. His bed was the same, his shelf still had his old collection of corocoro manga and books, including some new ones from the Shonen Jump, and Hiddabat still lived inside his closet like she usually does.
Speaking of Yo-Kai, a certain oval white ghost was floating around the room to look outside the window, seeing the sunbathing the place with its rays to announce that daytime is here.
"Ahh! Seems that today's gonna be Nate's big day!" Exclaimed Whisper the Yo-Kai butler with overwhelming joy. Despite the years, Whisper still was Nate's loyal friend, and also a terrible Yo-Kai butler. He peeked his face from the glass to see both the Yo-Kai Jibanyan and the now-grown Nathan still sleeping without any worries whatsoever. "Well, it's up to me to wake up these slowpokes, again…" He said with some annoyance as he reached the sleeping brunette-boy to wake him up as he forgot to set his alarm on his phone. "Ugh, being a Yo-Kai butler can be a pretty stressful job, but it's hard to deny that it's pretty rewarding."
Whisper floated towards his sleeping master, who still held the Yo-Kai Watch on his left wrist, meaning that they have still more adventures to come for the passing years. Nathan Adams was now a 17-year old teenager, also now being a Third-Year High Schooler. Yet despite all of this, his not-so-average life still continues to be met and intervened by Yo-Kai just like that first time he met Whisper at Mount Wildwood.
"Rise and Shine, Nate! Cuz' today is a grand day for you, isn't it?" Whisper welcomed his dear and beloved brunette-haired friend with a warm smile to welcome this new and grand day.
The boy slowly awakened from his slumber and stretched his arms to greet this day. "*Yaaawn…* Yeah, Good mornin' Whisper." Nate was still drooling a waterfall through his mouth while waking up. "What's with waking me this early in the morning? I was just having a dream that me and Katie were about to get married."
"Well, excuse me Nate. But as your loyal Yo-Kai buttler, it is my duty to remind you ." Whisper fumed a bit angry while putting on a French maid outfit to dust off the kid's room with a feather duster. "And by the way, isn't today a big day for you?"
Nate tried to remember on what his white ghost was talking about. It took him some short time to realize until he snapped his fingers to declared that he remembered what day was today. "Oh, I remember now! Today's the day where the Academia freshmen are admitted!" He shouted with surprise as he got out of his bed immediately.
About a week ago, he received an acceptance letter from the Academia, the most prestigious Dueling Academy that has ever existed, and pretty much the most prestigious academic institute in general.
"Well, then what are you waiting for? Get your briefcase all packed on and make sure to wake up Jibanyan, for the road to greatness and world-fame awaits us! And besides, since normal humans can't see us, we don't even have to pay extra tickets for the transport! So you can always have me if you ever need help Nate!" Whisper looked at the teenager with confidence and with a smile.
"Yeah no need to remind me Whisper, i pretty much know that you and my Yo-Kai friends will always have by ass and my back. But do you have to sound that greedy? At this point, you look like you're sticking with me for your own self interests."
"E-e-e-excuse me Nate!?" For no one's surprise, the White ghost stopped his mondain chores to raise his finger with anger and reclamation. "I have you know that I've been nothing but a helpful butler to you! And since when I ever shown that I'm closed to you for my own selfish needs!?"
Nathan looked at Whisper for a moment with some disappointment, showing that it wasn't just one moment or two that the Slippery Yo-Kai has acted greedy in front of him. He turned away and walked over the rug of his room. He then bent over to reach Jibanyan, another one of his loyal Yo-Kai friends, and also quite the annoying pest. "Psst… Hey Jibanyan, guess what day today is?" He whispered through the red kitty's ears to grab his attention.
The small cat's ears twitched by the voice of the teen. "Nyyyaaaawn…" The titular Yo-Kai yawned while stretching his paws. "What with all that bickering between you and Whisper, Nyan?" He purred at Nate while rolling over the wooden floor of the room. "Nyeeeroow… Can't a cat like me enjoy himself some sleep without no one interrupting?"
"Sorry Jibs, but I won't be risking my chance for something big just because you refuse to move your feline ass out of the floor." Nate responded while wearing off his Pajamas to put instead his casual get-up. With it, it consisted about a pair of beige pants, his usual blue boots, a semi-elegant red hoodie and a yellow polo T-Shirt with a small white star symbol on it that makes him stand out from the crowd. "Anyways Whisper, think you can help me to pack my stuff? I'm too busy with organizing my clothes and such." He requested his not-so-trusty butler while pulling a blue suitcase which he was putting inside things like normal clothes and personal hygiene stuff.
"Huh? What's with all of you being all busy, nyan?" Jibanyan owled sideways, wondering why the kid and the Slippery Yo-Kai were acting more active than normal, considering that they were on Spring break from Nate's Third-Year's high-school responsibilities.
"Don't you remember Jibanyan? Nate's been accepted into the Academia. I'm actually surprised that you aren't aware of it. Well, no wonder you won that silver award for the 2nd laziest Yo-Kai ever." Whisper passed by, not before giving the cat Nathan's admission letter to the Academia as proof.
"H-hey! Shut your trap Whisper, Nyan! I'm very proud of that title, ya know?" Jibs shoot his fist in fury for what the white ghost said to him. Though, it didn't took him that long to remember about that Academia place. "Oh! Nyow I remember! Isn't that place about that game you're playing of Duel Monsters Nyate?"
"Well, yeah." He affirmed while closing his briefcase full of clothes and shampoo. "I mean, I'm not considered that much of a pro in the game, but it's a pretty neat hobby to me." He admitted while dusting off his shirt. Sure, he began to play Duel Monsters back at middle-school to impress Katie who was also really into the game. That and he has been crowned champion into some local tournaments of his city for a while thanks to his humble Zombie Deck. Though, he never played with a duel disc as he preferred to stick with the tabletop manner. "I know that enrolling myself into the Academia is a bit of a bizarre stretch. But then again, seems that most of everyday issues are resolved with card games. And I also wanted to plan for my future."
"Ohohoho! Planning for adulthood, I see." Whisper floated nearby his master with a smile. "I'm glad you're also taking responsibility for what's to come."
"Well, what can I say? You're only young once, so might as well enjoy it at its fullest." The teenager said as he finished up preparing his suitcase. "And I'm not planning into causing any weird future time paradoxes. I've already had enough troubles with our last adventure."
All the while, Jibanyan was doing his mondaine stretches un-stiff his feline limbs. He hasn't been training his truck-destroying paws just for them to get rusty. Though, he then began to hear some squeaks coming from Nate's closet. They were familiar squeaks per say.
"Huh? Wonder what's about?" Whisper paused his maiden chores to look at his master's closet. He, alongside the others already knew who it was. "Wonder what Hiddabat has in store for us now? Ohohoho! I hope that it's the new Pocket Mirapo Model Orcaberg announced last month."
"Whisper, you do realize that he just gifts us with the new model you're speaking about yesterday, right?" Nate looked at his white ghost, showing his new Pocket Mirapo he and his Yo-Kai friends managed to get for free since they're pretty close friends with the heads of Yopple inc. That and that he has saved the world multiple times, so he's fine having these kinds of gifts as tokens of gratitude.
"G-guys, think you have some seconds to spare? I have something to show you." Hiddabat, the Bat Yo-Kai from the Shady tribe slid the teen's closet a bit for her commodity. She's one of Nathan's top 3 closest Yo-Kai friends as she takes residence on his closet. And man, does Nate has some friends with huge benefits, considering that she's one of the richest females in the Yo-Kai world.
"Oh, something in the matter Hidabat?" Nate asked the Yo-Kai while he and his other 2 friends got closer to hear what she has to say, but they were sure to keep a distance for her, since she's pretty timid in nature and can get pretty anxious on crowed places.
"Do you have something for us? And by the way, how's that delivery of those Next Harmeowny figures I bough, Nyan?" Asked Jibanyan, making the situation a bit awkward. Yup, despite being kind of a celebrity on the Yo-Kai world, Jibanyan has a pretty freaky hyper fixation with the world-wide famous Idol Group Next Harmoeowy.
"If it's a new model of the Yo-Kai Watch? Say, why don't you give it to me so I can put it on good hand?" Whisper extended his arms while exposing a greedy and non-trusty grin, but Nate slapped some sense back into him. "Oh, sorry…" He apologized, sobbing the bump in his head.
"Anyways, I wanted to say congratulations for being accepted into the Academia. A lot of people wish to study there, and only a few are assured to go." Hidabat cheered on her friend for having a place at the most prestigious Dueling School in the planet.
"Nah, it's not that big of a deal to be honest." The boy who holds the Yo-Kai Watch mumble while scratching the back of his hair. "Oh, by the way, have you already sent that thank you letter to Yopple for the new Yo-Kai Watch model? I can say I'll be using this bad bay for a looong time!" Nathan asked if the compliment letter has already arrived at the gates of the tech company. 2 Years after the incident with the Overseer, Lord Enma collaborated with Yopple and good ol' Mr. Goodsight to work on a very special Yo-Kai Watch model just for Nate. The model he now has in his possession is the Yo-Kai Watch Sekai, A Watch that has the ability to be compatible with every single Medal and Ark from the past, present and future. To be short on details, the watch looked pretty similar to the normal white model with the usual clock hands, alongside a keyhole for Ark and a slot for medals.
"Eyup. The 2 were pretty proud about how much you loved it." Hidabat responded gleefully. "Anyways, since I heard you were going to go to a dueling school through all of summer, I wanted to give you some things that I thought could be useful to you." The bat then brought out an package the size of a volleyball which she handed to Nate. "Consider it the monthly payment rent." She said cheerfully before closing the closet of the room.
Nathan then sat on the chair of his desk which was actually nearby his closet to open his package. His other 2 ghostly friends also came to see what was inside their new delivery.
"Well, what are you waiting for? Let's see what goods came in the mail!" Whisper motivated his human friend into opening the mysterious box.
"Well, at least let's hope it isn't like one of those Red Box incidents." The brunette boy hoped. He has already experienced all sorts of messed up things that could happen when he opened one of those red boxes from that stranger he comes near time in time. "Anyway's, let's gut this sucker up!" He exclaimed while pulling out a cutter from a drawer bellow his desk to open the crate.
Once opened, he took out the packing peanuts inside the crate and gave them to Jibanyan to play with them. Inside the delivery box, there was a dufflebag for Nathan to carry his other stuff during his days on the academia, a package from Kaiba Corp and a carton box the size of a single deck of duel monsters.
"Woah! No freaking way!" Nathan was quick to recognize what the other box had inside as he immediately pulled it out from it. He then opened the box he seemed exited to open up, confirming that it was indeed something he wished to have. "It's a Kaiba-Corp Real Solid Vision Duel Disc!" He shouted in happiness, raising a tablet-size object which had a pattern of blue, orange and red colors alongside having a screen on its center. "I've been trying to save enough money to buy one of these babies! Thanks a lot, Hiddabat!"
"She even got it on a color that matches you Nate! Talk about details." Whisper pointed how the patterns of the duel disc and how they matched his master's sense of style. "By the way, wonder why everyone talking about those Duel DiskAAAAARGH!" Caught by surprise, Whisper was cut in half by the holographic sharp blade of Adams' Duel Disc. The kid was so exited to try out his new toy, he didn't knew how much of a hazard Duel Disks can be.
"GYAH! I'M SO SORRY WHISPER!" Nate cried in terror and regret after accidentally slicing his butler in 2.
"NYAAAH! HOW DID THAT DESIGN CHOICE WENT THROUGH THE SAFETY REGULATIONS!?" The red cat Yo-Kai yelped in companionship. He has no idea how hasn't Kaiba Corp. been hit with a gigantic lawsuit for that blade in the Duel Disc. A kid can literally lose its head with that thing.
But fortunately, Whisper's halves were put back together as new like 2 magnets. "Hey! Watch it with that thing Nate! One more of those incidents and the cops will be throwing you into jail!" As usual, the Yo-Kai protested in fumes and puffs, raising his fist while shaking it back and forth.
"Oh right, Yo-Kai can't really die like we humans do." Nate felt like an idiot for not remembering that Yo-Kai can't really die by the usual means since well, they're all ghosts after all.
"Oi Nyate, I found something neat here, Nyan!" Jibanyan called out from inside the delivery package that he was using as a fort. He was holding the other small package in his red paws, unsure of what it is. "I don't know what these things are, but I think they look pretty cool."
"Huh?" Nate turned his head before his kitten could handle him the smaller deck-box to him. "How odd… This look like a Deck of Duel Monsters cards." He inspected the Deck box that came with his delivery. By the smell and the weight of the thing, he can confirm that his superstitions were right. "Hey Hiddabat, did you also ordered this?" He turned his head to his closed wardrobe to ask the bat.
Hidabat opened the door of her cave, but she didn't said a word for a moment. The ambience was awkward, yet suspicious. And Nathan could clearly see it through the eyes of the Shady Yo-Kai.
"You know you aren't fooling anyone with that weird look of yours, Hidabat. Just tell us who really sent me this." Nathan persuaded the Yo-Kai to tell him already about the mysterious package and who sent it to him.
"If I'm frankly with you, I have no idea." The Yo-Kai shook her head, saying that she doesn't really know who was the one who put that deck there. "It was from an anonymous person. He or she asked me via a Text App to give them to you by some unknown reason."
"Perhaps could it be a secret admirer of you, Nate?" Whisper approached Adams with a smile on his face to tease him. "Say, why don't you open them? Maybe there's a super-rare card inside!"
Nate looked away from his white ghost and carved his attention back to the mysterious deck he has gifted with. He opened the carton box the cards were kept inside and pulled them all out. He thought they were gonna be a bunch of rare cards, but the revelation of the cards inside caught the kid and the 2 Yo-Kai by surprise.
"Holy heavens and by the freaking 9 circles of hell!" Nate gasped in harmony with his Yo-Kai friends. "Is it really you on that card Jibanyan?" He looked at the titular feline, seeing how he was in the artwork of the card.
"Nyah! Since when I accepted doing this, Nyan?" Jibanyan swiped the card out of the human's hand. It was indeed him on the card. He was a Level 4 Zombie monster, which makes sense since not only the Zombie type in Duel Monsters consist only of the typical zombie creatures, but also all types of ghosts and supernatural beings, which make sense for Yo-Kai. "Someone here's gonna face a nyasty copyright strike once I know who did this!"
"UWHAT!? Is that really me?" Whisper was next to be featured on a card. "Hmm… This is pretty strange if you ask me Nate. There's a rotten fish stinking here, and I'm sure it's not Jibanyan's odor for not taking a shower for weeks."
"Hey! Shut your mouth Whisper, Nyan!"
Nate continued to scroll the cards, one by one. Not only did it contained some useful and powerful monsters, spells and traps that opted for a strategy involving Zombie monsters, but it contained even more cards based on his many Yo-Kai friends. Walkappa, Noko, Noway, Hungramps, Venoct, even some from the far future like Junior. This also included some very powerful Fusion monsters like Kyubi, Slimmamander alongside a powerful Fusion Spell only for Yo-Kai monsters. "Well, one thing's for certain, this cards aren't counterfeit or anything." He was sure, as all Duel Monster printed cards had a unique texture and smell than not many people were able to replicate, and all of those Yo-Kai cards qualify as legit.
"Well, if that stack of cards tells us something, is that our secret admirer has some knowledge about our existance." Whisper left aside his dumb attitude to make his more mature and serious one shine out. He usually gets like that whenever things get serious or when he feels the aura of a malignant Yo-kai nearby. "Or perhaps he or she could be a Yo-Kai! But who? could it be Lord Enma, Steve Jaws, Lord Anata, Hovernyan or perhaps my handsome me from the future?"
"And I think an even bigger mystery is how this deck and my old one go so well together." Nathan got up with some snark. "Anyway, I'll go downstairs to say goodbye to mom and tell her if she could also sent my goodbyes to dad. Think you can organize the rest for me guys? I'll make sure to organize my cards better once I'm back." He requested his friends as he left his room to go to the living room where his mom was, and also where the family phone was since his dad was on a business trip.
This of course, only left the 3 Yo-Kai alone on the kid's place. "Okay, time to resume work." Whisper exclaimed with some devotion as he picked both his master's old and new decks and put them on a leather deck-box for him to carry out. Whisper continued his house chores while humming a cheerful melody. But all of the sudden, Hidabat appear from the closet, looking worriedsome. "Hummm…? Is there something in the matter Hidabat?" Whisper looked concerned on to why the female Yo-Kai was looking all tense and restless.
"Y-yeah… I think without Nate here, it's safe to tell you something, pretty important. I-I think you're the Yo-Kai who Nate can trust the most." Hidabat asked the White ghost to come in closer. Fortunately, Jibanyan was taking a nap, stopping him from snitching their conversation to their human friend. "I-it's about the Academia, and how they aren't what they apparent to be…"
Whisper rose an eyebrow by that. "You mean that they aren't really that much of a top dueling school? Don't tell me the whole thing is oen giant elaborated scamming scheme." Whisper frowned, but then he remembered that the school was built and funded by Kaiba Corp itself. Everyone knows how its Former CEO Seto Kaiba was pretty obsessed with Duel Monsters, whose obsession has advanced human technology to an absurd degree.
"N-no, it's much worse." Hidabad replied with worry. "Don't you think it's really weird that the Academia is handing over admission letters to young people all around the world like lollipops?" She asked Whisper.
"Hmm… Well, now that you mention it…" Whisper rubbed his non-existent chin with his fingers to think. Ever since Seto Kaiba's mysterious disappearance, admission letters to the Academia were being delivered to many people all around the world in a fast pace. "Something's not right in here, and my danger senses are telling me so." Whisper was then beginning to suspect about the Academia. "But, do you really think Nate was chosen by mere coincidence, or perhaps Kaiba Corp has some sort of evil hidden agenda that involves him?"
"That's the reason." Hidabat affirmed before showing her laptop where she had her conversation with the anonymous figure. "Whoever's been texting me, they're saying that the Academia's actions are about to unleash an ancient evil that has been sealed off about a thousand years ago!"
"What? So they're actually an evil cult that worships an evil entity!? I knew I couldn't trust all those human mega corps. They're always hiding something behind their massive and inflated egos and cutesy mascot characters." Whisper snapped his fingers, expressing his distrust towards the human mega-corporations and their shady actions. Well, this isn't that much of a problem in the Yo-Kai world as information was very transparent there. "Then, who are we going to deal with? Could it be Wobblewok? The Ghoulfather? Zorc Necrophales? Or that giant Yo-Kai monster Whisped Cream!? DUGH! How I hate that guy! Stealing my handsome face and causing mayhem all over the world!"
"No, it's even worse." Hidabat's tone became more frightened as she had a hard time saying the name of the Supreme King Dragon. "Zarc…"
With this realization, Whisper felt as if his heart stopped beating for one minute. Sure, the Yo-Kai World has its fair share of nasty and downright evil Yo-Kai lurking there, but even those fell in fright whenever they hear that horrendous name. The scariest part is that none of them know how he looks like, or whenever he is a yo-Kai or not. It was like some sort of Lovecraftian Entity amongst the Yo-Kai culture. People tend to cross the Supreme King Dragon as a dumb memory or bedtime story to scare off Yo-Kai children to behave well, but never as a legend or myth. Deep inside their souls, they know for a fact that the dreadful demon duelist has existed once.
"Whathever the Academia want with Nathan, be sure to stick with him. I-I can't really give that much detail further as I fear they could do nasty things with him if he knows. B-but I'll make sure to contact you whenever you need help Whisper."
"W-wa-Wait Hidabat!" Whisper wanted to ask some thing to the closet dweller, but she soon closed the door when Nate came back from saying goodbye to her parents.
"I'm back Whisper." Announced the Brunette boy as he felt ready to leave. "Anyways, did you make sure to pack my stuff?" He looked at his ghostly butler. Though, his face of uncertainty rose some eyebrows.
"U-ugh-Ugh Y-Yees sire!" He squabbled, trying to show a calm and collected expression, but the sweatdrops of worry dropping down his face didn't seem to help. "I've made sure to pack all of your stuff right on that new duffle bag. I can say that Hidabat sure know where to buy her stuff, that thing can pack almost anything!" He said with optimism by swinging his shoulder.
Nathan swept aside the worries Whisper had for a moment and picked up his new back and briefcase. "Well, I'm guessing we're all set up." He said with confidence. "Say, ready for another weird and crazy adventure, my old friend?" He looked behind to see his ever first Yo-Kai friend with a warm smile as he headed outside.
It was weird. The happiness of his master somehow calmed the anxiety that was infesting his mind. With not that long, Whisper's mood made a 180 degree turn. "Ohohoho! We both live for these kinds of adventures! Let's go Nate!" He said with enthusiasm as he followed his friend outside. But still, he wondered what was Hidabat talking about of the Academia's true intentions. Nevertheless, he will be there to help Nate when he needs it the most. After all, that's what friends are for.
"Bye mom! I'll make sure to graduate by the end of summer!" Nathan waved one last goodbye to her caring mom as he put himself a helmet and started the engine of his new scooter. It's not that he ditched out his bike, he just wanted an upgrade, and this scooter of his quite suits him. "Anyways Whisper, when does the ship to the Academia sets sail?" He turned to see his slippery pal right beside him and ask him about the time.
"Well, it says that the cruise sail away at 12:00 A.M." Whisper checked the hour on his trusty Yo-Kai pad. "We have an entire hour for us."
"Great." Nathan responded with a smile. "Say, wanna give Springdale one last visit?" He asked his butler to take a stroll all around his humble hometown for one last time before sailing away to the island of the Academia.
"Well of course! If we're going to be away for awhile, let's go with a bang." Of course, the Yo-Kai was in favor for his friend's idea. It would be nice to give a good look all around the city for nostalgic purpouses.
Nathan rode his bike all across the Uptown part of Springdale, the part he's mostly familiarized with. Something about the falling Sakura leaves made him feel a pleasant breeze of nostalgia, after all, his city is also known for their beautiful Sakura trees. Though, something here to point out here in the Fusion Dimension is that unlike its other 3 counterparts, this dimension doesn't seem futuristic at all. In fact, it looked like something more of the 21th century, with some technological perks, of course. He toured by the Bakery where the city-famous Blerghels are made, the left riverbank where he met Walkappa for the first time, his old elementary school where he waved a hand to his old teachers and the new students, which they waved back. He then later strolled through Breezy Hills, passing through the museum, the pond and Hailey's house. After that, he took a shortcut to Blossom Heights, visiting the hot springs they're known for and also where Timers and More was. He later proceed to pass through the Shopper's row, saying hi to the many shops around him and taking a quick visit to the abandoned Nocturne Hospital, where the mad Yo-Kai Scientist Dr. Maddiman resides. Fortunately for him and his intestines, he has been noticed that the former henchmen of Squidglyus Mckraken has reformed from his villainous ways and is currently taking a vacation with his Yo-Kai turtle pets on the Bermuda triangle.
And finally, they decided to visit Mout Wildwood as their last stop. Nate made sure to park his bike right next to where the parking sign was. He took the long way where the stone escalators were, but he was willing to take them as he always loved coming to this place to either catch any sort of rare bugs or for nostalgic purpouses. He was sure to put a coin inside the donation box of the temple atop the hill before anything of course.
The human and the Yo-Kai managed to reach their favorite spot of all Mount Wildwood, The Great Sacred Tree where the ol' Crank-A-Kai was located. The tree and the capsule machine made out of stone are one of the biggest key factors that connects the human world with the Yo-Kai one, preserving and protecting the balance between the 2 realms.
"Well, we managed to make it on time." Sighted Nate cheerfully while sitting on the grass below him, staring at the capsule machine. He could just narrow at the rocky object for ages. "You know something Whisper, every time I come here to the Crank-A-Kai, I just can't stop thinking about the first time I've met you…" He told his butler with some melancholy on his voice. "Freeing you from that capsule was the time my life changed… You showed me the world of the Yo-Kai, and I've managed to make tons of friends thanks to you, and also saved the world from time to time." He said with nostalgia.
"Oh yes! I still remember our first meeting like it was yesterday." Whisper still holds the memory of their fateful meeting with care and heart. He could still remember all those years ago when Nate was only a kid, hunting for rare bugs until coming across the Crank-A-Kai by accident. Was it fate that brought their bond together, or maybe just a coincidence? Even then, that was the day the kid's life changed forever, for both the better and worse, but more on the better side. He met a lot of Yo-kai friends which have helped him solve the problems of both humans and Yo-Kai alike and the many times he and them have saved the world multiple times. "Say Nate, why don't you give this bad boy a good ol' crank one last time?" Whisper then handed over a shiny coin with an image of himself to his master to use. "Go on, this one's on the house."
"Well, now that you mention it… Why not?" Nate got up and grabbed the coin his ghostly friend gave him. He approached the crank-a-kai and inserted the coin on the slot to gave its handgrip a good spin. With it, a single black capsule of stone rolled down from the dispenser and fell into the ground.
"Hoho, Nice! It's a black one!" Nate cheered that he pulled up a black capsule while he picked it up. Normally, black capsules in the crank-a-kai contained pretty powerful Yo-Kai or very valuable items that are worth a fortune.
"Well, what are you waiting for? Let's meet our new friend!" Whisper encouraged the teenager to open the capsule already, waiting with excitement on which powerful Yo-Kai are they gonna meet today.
Nate then applied all of his streght to open his mysterious prize. Once it opened, it was revealed that their grand reward was…
"Nothing?" Nate was feeling a mixed emotion of surprise and disappointment, seeing how the black capsule didn't contain neither Yo-Kai or object to use. "That's weird. I'm actually surprised that I didn't got anything from a black capsule than getting something out of it." He checked well the insides of the capsule and see if the Yo-Kai in question was just pretty small. Yet, there was nothing.
"Well, that's pretty weird. Maybe the machine's broken or something." Whisper was just as surprised as his friend, though that sense of surprise would then have another meaning once he saw the time on his tablet. "By the beard of the former Lord Enma! It's 11:30 A.M.!" Whisper yielped. "Well Nate, seems that we have finally visited all the places we wanted to go. But we have to hurry up before we miss the boat!" Even with his doubts with the Academia, he still had to act normal in front of Nathan. After all, its better to inspect that school when you're in.
"Oh! Thanks for reminding me Whisper!" He exclaimed with gratitude before dropping the capsule parts on the grass. "Well, then we better hurry. I don't want to be seen as the tardy orc here."
Both Yo-Kai and human left the tree to go back where Nathan's scooter was. But one thing they haven't realized is that the capsule indeed had a prize, but they didn't put any attention to it.
The Prize in question wasn't neither a Yo-Kai or thing. It was a small ball of light the size of a golf ball that was lying on the floor a bit weak. The spark then began to float, looking around the place. Its movements showed that it was surprised that somehow, her consciousness was still alive somehow, but as a small spark of light neither the monks or the animals around the forest were able to see. But soon it realized that the one who freed it was Nathan. The small orb of light then made sure to follow the kid where he was going, as it knew that maybe him can change the course of this story and perhaps stop Leo Akaba from doing the same mistake he once did long ago…
(Downtown Springale/Japan/Fusion Dimension)
Downtown Springdale, the main urban area of the town. Known to be located near a beach bay for its inhabitants to enjoy a nice day with the sand and sea, its many shops and establishments you couldn't let your eye off, and of course, it's railway station, being one of the town's many monuments.
While Nate and Whisper traveled through the friendly concrete streets of the city, he noticed a large crowd filling the streets, all of them cheering him on and congratulating him for being admitted to the Academia. It was very for cities and towns in the world to celebrate a farewell party to the new freshmen who were heading to the Dueling Academy. After all, it was a pretty big honor that a resident from your hometown be part of one of the biggest dueling academies in the world.
"Well, basing all the confetti down the street, seems that we have arrived just in time." Nate said cheerfully, being glad that he wasn't running late for the boat, which was a good thing for a first impression amongst his piers.
"Well, if my butler institutions don't try to fail me, I can tell that your destination is right at the docks Downtown." Whisper pointed his white finger to the south part of Springdale, referring to the luxurious white Kaiba Corp cruise in the shape of the Blue-Eyes White Dragon whistling its loud horn, expelling hume from its upper exhaustion pipes. "Oh my! Just look who came here to give you a last visit!" Whisper cheerfully told Nate, looking at 3 individual people he's very familiar with.
"H-hey! They're Eddie, Bear and Katie!" Nathan was pretty happy to see his 2 best friends and his girlfriend waiting for him to say their farewells. No matter how many years have passed, the bonds between these 3 young adults still remained as strong ever since Elementary school. "Hi guys!" He waved to the 3 while parking his scooter nearby, alluring their attention.
"Nathan!" The 3 high-schoolers quickly came in to gave their friend (and boyfriend in Katie's case) one big group hug.
"Man! It just feels pretty rad having you all here!" Nathan cheered in excitement after that big show of affection. "I-I'm sorry that I won't be spending our summer break together like we usually do. I hope you all can understand why."
"Nah, you're cool Nate. I mean, who wouldn't deny an admission to the Academia? Well, unless you're crazy that is." Eddie, the kid with the long green trench-coact and the earphones said in a playful manner. "And besides, I was also going to be out for a robotics and programming summer camp, so we're even."
"D'ah, you can't be serious Eddie! You too? But I had already made plans for the 4 of us to go for a summer vacation on San Fantastico! I heard that this summer, there would be a frenzy of flock of all sorts of sea creatures!" Bear, the most robust member of the friend circle exclaimed, though he still could invite his other classmates from his school, that is.
"Nah don't worry, I'm sure you can find someone else to spend your summer Bear." Nathan smiled to cheer up his friend's mood. "W-well, h-how about you Katie? Are you gonna do something through our summer break?" He turned to the girl with the ponytail and ask her if she had plans for summer a bit embarrassed.
"W-well, now that you mention it…" Katie said a bit nervous. "M-me and my parents were going to visit some relatives at England. Well, we're one of the same…" She nuzzled, feeling a bit embarazzed that she and her boyfriend were not gonna see eachother through all their vacations. "But I'm sure you'll be fine without me." She ended while giving a warm smile to her lover.
"Oh! I almost forgot!" Eddie gasped, remembering that he wanted to give something to Nate before leaving Springdale. He put his hand inside of one of his back-pockets of his pants to pull out a card inside a sleeve. "Here. If you ever feel alone there at the Academia, consider this as a token of our friendship." Eddie then handed over his gift to his friend, being a single card.
Once Nathan took a better look, he and his white ghost dropped their jaws in amusement. "Holy Smokes! A-are you really giving me a copy of Infinite Impermanence? Man! These things are super-rare to find!" Exclaimed Nathan, still not believing that he's holding a super-rare trap card in his hands. One of the key differences about the Infinite Impermanence on the Fusion Dimension is that it had the image of Ermes the Infinite deteriorating rather than Cyber Dragon Infinity. "T-thanks!"
"Nah, no need to ask Nate. I only collect Duel Monster cards as a hobby, so it's not that big of a deal just having one copy of said trap in my binder." The kid with the earphones mumbled while scratching the back of his head. "I hope it helps you in the Academia."
"NATEEEE! BWAHAHAHAHAHA!" Bear then gave his friend one unexpected bear hug while unleasing a river worth of tears. "Promise us that you will text us regularly and be sure to never forget us!"
"NGH… I-I will Bear!" Nate responded, feeling that he was about to run out of air at any moment. "B-but can you p-please let me go…? Y-your asphyxiating me!"
The request made the robust teen realize that he was accidentally strangling Nathan, so he released him from his sign of affection.
"H-hey Nate, I do have one last request." Katie approached her boyfriend who was trying to gather some air. She picked up his head and proceed to kiss him in the mouth with all the love she has. "Be sure to not lose sight of Whisper and your Yo-Kai friends, okay?" With that, Katie said her last words, having her face turning slightly red before leaving. Just as Nate, she not only can see other Yo-Kai, but also has a Yo-Kai watch of her own.
Nathan felt pretty satisfied with that kiss. But time was money, and he couldn't left the cruise waiting for him. "Well, I guess this is a goodbye for now." He directly look at his 2 friends with melanchony, knowing that he will not see their faces for a long time. "I promise that I will become a great duelist once I'm back." He told the 2 while grabbing his stuff and getting inside the ship. "Enjoy your vacations!" He waved goodbye before entering the ship, which Eddie and Bear waved back, with some tears leaking from their eyes of course.
Nate got inside the cruise alongside the other aspirants that were also going to go to the Academia. Besides them, there was a middle-aged man who had a brunette mushrooh bowl-cut hairstyle and wore a militaristic outfit. He was lifting a technological clipboard that had the names of all the new freshmen in the list on his left hand and a pocket watch on his right one, being sure that no slacker gets late. "Phew… I'm pretty surprise that all of these kids have arrived in time." Mamoru Noro, one of Academia's Comodores and also organizer sighted in relief. Something he hates in life is tardiness. "Alright, no slackers it seems! Seems that we're all ready to sail." He put back his pocket back and turned to ride the cruise, only to realize that the ship was already sailing without him. "AAAH! W-WAIT FOR ME, YOU GOOD FOR NOTHING SLACKERS! WHY DO I ALWAYS HAVE TO BE IN THE SHORT END OF THE STICK!?" He yielped as he sprinted as fast as he could to catch the still-open entrance of the cruise before they could part without him. Fortunately for him, he managed to reach the ship just in time with the help of a group of Academia students who wore blue blazer jackets.
Nathan watched the whole drama on top of the cruise's deck. It was funny seeing that guy being inspirited by Wazzat, which he saw now floating away after pulling another successful prank. He will sure miss all the Yo-Kai shenanigans that happens in his humble town of Springdale. But right now, a new adventure awaits him and his Yo-Kai friends. Nate and Whisper watched the endless sea below them, wondering what exiting challenges, friends and foes awaits them.
(Academia's Docks/Somewhere in the Japanese Sea/Fusion Dimension)
The cruise that carried the denizens of new students was almost near the ambitious land, the Academia. The castle-like structure was still something to behold by itself, as it portrayed an impotent and also terrifying aura.
Inside one of the rooms of the cruise, Nate and Whisper decided to take a nap as it would take a day for the vehicle to arrive at the Academia. They were still unaware that they have already arrived at their destination, alongside some of his other peers that were also taking a nap.
"Attention all passengers. We are about to arrive to our destination in 5 minutes estimated." The captain's voice announced to the future students through the speakers, waking the brunette boy and his ghost up from their slumber. "Be prepare to disembark all of your belonging from the cruise and exit immediately. The staff of the Academia requires your punctual presence over the Academia's coliseum, where your initiation ceremony shall begin, and your ranks shall be sorted out based on your resolve during your admission duel. You all better not be late, as we don't tolerate slackers here."
Whisper immediately woke up from his beauty sleep by the announcement of the captain of the ship. He was still axious about what was Hiddabat referring about the Academia hiding a dark secret amongst the public eye. But nevertheless, he better help Nate through all of this, otherwise not only would he put his master reputation at risk, but could put him in actual danger. He swept his bad thoughts away to put his best face. "Hey Nate! Seems that we're about to arrive soon." Whisper exclaimed with joy, causing the teen to wake up and jump off his queen-size bed. "We better grab our stuff and not be late. We still want to maintain a good impression, amirite?"
"Yeah, I heard that already Whisper. Don't take me for someone dumb when I'm sleeping." Nathan replied with grump before checking the drawers in his bedroom of the cruise. The bedroom he was relocated was pretty fancy, which was no surprise considering that their vehicle comes from Kaiba Corp. He opened up the bottom drawer of his desk to pick up his smartphone, grabbed his trusty dufflebag from the white coat on the wall and picked up his briefcase that was lying besides a wall where a crystal-clear window was. "And by the way Whisper, please don't try to do any scandal when I'm out with the others. I don't want to be known as "The weird kid" of the school since well, you know…"
The Yo-kai rubbed his chin between his fingers to know what was his friend referring to, and he then hopped into the same boat of what kind of point was Nathan referring to. "Oh right! How can I forget something so basic? Not all humans are able to see Yo-Kai unless they use something like a Yo-Kai Watch! Oh silly me." The Yo-Kai butler laughed for some moments. "But don't worry Nate! Because as you already know, I am a certified Yo-Kai butler with a certified title of etiquette!" Whisper hit his chest with pride to swank-off his self-proclaimed manners. Though, Nate would ignore him and just leave his room with all of his stuff. "WHAT!? YOU LEFT WITHOUT ME NATE!? THAT'S JUST RUDE FROM YOU!" Whisper's eyes bulged once he realized that he lost himself in his arrogance, he didn't noticed that Nate already left to not hear about his million fake titles. "W-WAIT FOR ME NATE!" He quickly rev up his motors right before sprinting like a roadrunner to catch up with his human friend outside.
Right outside the boat, the freshmen were walking through the docks of the Academia like a bunch of lemmings following a designated road. There were some teachers and Obelisk Blue students guiding the crowd of new soldiers towards a giant tunnel entrancethat was located under the scientist's stronghold.
Nathan marveled at the medieval structure above him as he walked alongside his future piers. But now that he thought about it, he never remembered the Academia looking so royal-like. Sure, the School was funded and financed by Kaiba Corp. But knowing how petty the former legend Seto Kaiba acts in public, he would most likely wanted to renovate his dueling school to inflate his already massive ego. But then again, he was Seto freaking Kaiba. One of the richest men in the world who has a self-esteem big enough to own a giant jet shaped like the Blue-Eyes White Dragon and not suffer any type of embarrassment.
But then again, he still felt troubling about some of the new "decorations" the Academia has implemented around the campus. And by that, he meant those mysterious giant crystals floating all around the island. There were no sight of string holding those giant monuments on air, nor felt like holograms. He felt pretty disturbed, as if someone was watching him from those crystals.
Outside the line of new students, Noro was grasping his knees while taking deep breaths. "Alright, that does it!" The commodore quickly shouted before tossing his clip board down the ground in anger. "If they want someone to sort those little slackers to the academia, FIND SOMEONE-"
"Are we perhaps having problems, Officer Noro?" Suddendly, a voice came in, which sent a wave of shivers down the Academia commodore's spine.
Noro quickly straighten his posture out of fright once he heard the voice before instantly saluting. He heard the footsteps of a certain general of the Academia commign closer, sending an aura of dread and fright to the poor middle-aged soldier. "G-Ghah! S-Supreme King!" He yielped as he saw the soldier come by to see why was Noro so frustrated. "W-what is the reason to bless me w-w-with your presence?"
The Supreme King Noro was talking about was a young man between his late teens and early twenties. He wore a jet-black militaristic uniform to match his pitch-black soul, a long crimson cape that imposes authority and fear amongst the low-ranks of the Academia, and a pair of black and yellow leather boots, whose steps pierces fear through the hearts of his enemies. If his brunette hair would be mistaken by a Kuriboh, his golden-yellow eyes that reflext a soul-sucking look would quickly correct those who defile him. "I was wondering what was causing your sudden emotional burst." He narrowed down at his inferior while crossing his arms on his back. "I hope we aren't having any inconveniences."
"O-O-O-O-Of c-c-c-course Not, S-Supreme K-king!" Noro babbled in anxiety.
The Supreme King looked at the commodore for some extra seconds. "I see." He nodded before turning away. "Report yourself back to the Academia Colisseum for the New Recruit's Initiation Duels." He ordered him as he walked away with his hands behind his back. "The Professor won't tolerate slackers, whenever they are Students, or Personel like you. All fall equal under Leo Akaba's might. Besides, I've been informed that the Tyler Sisters have report themselves on time, and you don't want to look back in front of the new students if we consider how much you and the sisters don't get along pretty well." He reminded him while he walked away from Noro's vision.
"W-WAIT! THE TYLER SISTERS WERE EARLY!?" Once he heard the news, Noro took out to the races to reach the Colisseum on time to not anger the Professor. He loathed to be left in ridicule as much as being late to his appointments, so he couldn't be looked down by the other members of the Academia as the guy who arrive late before the freaking Tyler Sisters.
Once back with Nathan, he was guided inside the the tunnels below the Academia alongside his fellow piers by the uppermen of the institution. The Dueling Academy held a vast systems of tunnels built bellow it, which connects through all the establishments of the institutions. Some are known to all members, while others are hidden in secret and only the Professor and his most trusted men know where they are.
"NAAAATE!" Whisper cried as he finally reached his master while launching himself to him all while flailing his arms.
Nate quickly noticed the screaming voice of his butler and moved his head to not crash with him and be left to ridicule.
Luckily, the Yo-Kai quickly braked his speed right when he reached his human friend's side. "What's with you abandoning me on the ship Nate? Do you have something against my butler intellect? Because if you're leaving to get to the ceremony in time, you could have just told me so!" Whisper fumed in anger for Nate's rude behavior back at the cruise ship.
Nate did some weird hand sights in front of Whisper, and it seems that the ghost was putting too much attention to it. It was basically a secret language he created to talk with Whisper whenever he was in a non-Yo-Kai crowded place. He couldn't stand all the times he was left in ridicule due to Whisper bursting in and talking to him in the worst possible moments. Anyways, Nate expressed that he didn't really liked how long Whisper drags on and on about his stuff, which he decided to leave before dying out of boredom.
"Why you…" Whisper took a time to reflect and came to an acceptable conclusion. "Uhhh… I guess you're right Nate. Maybe I should be more careful with my ego next time." Whisper gloomed, feeling sorry for shouting at his long friend for some false sense of pride. He then rose his head up once he caught the smell of a specific flavor. "By the way Nate, did you smuggled up chocolate on your bag? You know that chocolate and closed bags are a terrible mix. You don't want your stuff to be all smeared up in brown liquid."
That was weird for the brunette boy. He likes chocolate, but not to an extreme point for someone to notice the odor of cocoa hidden in his bag. But now that he thinks about it, he felt that something or more specifically, someone is missing. And he may have a clue that connect both the chocolate smell and the whereabouts of a certain someone.
The kid then put his hand inside his open duffle bag to pull out an unwanted guest that was hiding himself inside of it. With one strong pull, he unmasked the responsible of the sweet aroma that came from his duffle bag.
"Jibanyan? What were you doing inside Nate's Back!?" Whisper wailed with feeling of anger and surprise after discovering that the red kitten has taken unwanted residence inside Adams' bag.
"What? Did nyou really though I would miss another adventure with you, nyan?" Jibanyan snarked before taking a chomp out of a chocobar. "Come on! The 3 of us are like peas on a pod! We're inseparable at this point!" He exclaimed while putting an innocent smile, but the frowns of both Nate and Whisper indicated that his plan to soften their reactions was a complete failure.
"And who the hell gave you permitting to stay on my bag? Why didn't you just follow us like we normally do?" Nate couldn't help it, as he spoke directly to his ghostly cat while still grabbing him by his collar. "And you better have a good reason before I shove that chocobar in your hand right down your a-"
"The hell's wrong with you, weird kid?" One of the kids of the wave of freshmen owled at Nate with confusion on to why he was talking to the air.
Once the realization hit him straight, Nate began to quiver out of nervousness. He did what he feared of doing in front of everyone at the Academia. "Hahaha… I-I I was just talking to my imaginary friend. T-that's all!" He stammered in hopes of flushing away the weird looks the others were giving him. "Y-you know how being admitted into the Academia can get you all n-n-nervous, amirite? So might as well talk to my invisible friend right here to boost my self-esteem."
Despite his poor attempt of convincing the others to look away, it kinda worked seeing the other new recruits took their attention away from this akward moment. In Nate's book, it was pretty much a win. Not the win he hoped to achieve, but a win nonetheless.
"You and I have a lot to talk after this, you got that Garfield…?" Adams madly gritted at poor and scared Jibanyan after making him stick out from the group of new guys on the worst way before shoving the cat right back into his dufle bag.
Whisper didn't even bother to talk to Nate until they reach the coliseum. He wasn't on a good mood to talk, so might as well shut your mouth.
Though the 2 unaware, the small ball of light Nathan liberated from the Crank-A-Kai managed to catch up to them all the way to the Academia. Its movement expressed a sense of worry and hurry upon the mysterious spirit, yet it couldn't take her attention out from of the teen able to see Yo-Kai, so it decided to keep following him and Whisper without being seen by the 2 of them. She wanted to tell them something important, something about the return of the Supreme King Dragon.
But not that far from the 3, a mysterious figures enveloped in a dark brown coat watched Nate with intrigue from a distant tunnel covered in pure darkness. There was something in his visible purple eyes, sinister grin and surprisingly thick purple eyebrows that emitted a feeling of dread. "Hmm… So this is the new kid the Professor's going all nuts about? Well, you don't look that much of a special snowflake to begin with, but oh well… The Professor has a reason for seeing you as a valuable asset to his dream." He smugged at the unaware Nathan from the confort of his dark spot.
Suddendly, the shadowy figure felt something inside his hidden Extra Deck glowing, and making weird growling sounds, specifically growls of starvation and hatred. He brought out a peculiar Fusion Monster from his Extra Deck and narrowed it with malice. "Something in the matter, my precious dragon? You look, famished…" He talked directly to his Fusion card which emitted a dark aura around itself. "Oh, you seem to grab interest to the boy with the brunette hair as well, right?" The figure wondered why his monster took interest on a nobody, though he could feel emotions of aggressiveness and anger from his fusion dragon. "Oh? You feel like that loser over there will thwart our plans? How weird… Unfortunately, There's nothing in my power I can do. The Professor ordered us, the 4 Heavenly King to watch over the kid right there. He thinks he can be pretty useful for his ambitions." He told his monster with a grin on his face.
Right after, his monster was beginning to growl for a different reason, which also lured the mysterious figure's attention.
"Well, you seem to notice something different, wonder what it is?" The guy asked his card to show him what it discovered.
The Fusion Dragon focused its dark aura to where the mysterious ball of light was, which followed the tray of both Nate and Whisper.
"Can you see it clear, my dear vessel…?" A Malignant shadow in the shape of a dragon whispered through the cloaked figure's ear while wrapping his long-fingered arms around his shoulders. "That spark of light is the responsible for our separation. And it seems, that it took a big interest over that inferior being right there…" The shade made the cloaked figure turn his attention back at the boy. Thanks to the dark being's influence, the enigmatic person managed to see the ball of light floating over the ocean of freshmen.
"Well, that's something you don't see every day." The hooded one mumbled, being surprised on how bizarre was to find that ball of light. "Wonder why that lightbulb's following the kid there? Is he famous, or have I been living under a rock this whole time?"
"Look upon his left wrist…"
The shade pointed at Nathan's Yo-Kai Watch for his vessel to look.
"That ugly wristwatch he's wearing?" The cloaked one looked as the evil entity behind him. "I mean, I've heard both the Doktor and the Professor studying about that guy's "Yo-Kai Watch". But why are they considering it too special?"
"The Yo-Kai Watch is a special device capable of seeing spiritual entities known as Yo-Kai… It seems that the Spark of Light is trying to persuade that kid to use his supernatural capabilities to stop the Academia's plans."
"Well, you said that like if you want me to kill that kid already. But you know I can't say no to the Professor's orders. You know my relation with him." The hidden figure told the dark hellspawn behind him. "And speaking of which, seems that the initiation Duels are about to start. Better reserve myself a V.I.P. spot, and see if Mr. Nate Adams here is much of a hot stuff as the dear Professor told us he is."
"I see… The let's watch this bug's dueling skills, and then I'll judge if he's an ally to the Academia, or a threat to our plans of becoming one…" The Shadow told his vessel before returning inside the mysterious figure's body while taking out a malicious cackle.
"Yes… Become one… Ehehehehehe…" The Cloaked official of the Academia's eyes began to flash a violet glow while vanishing from the tunnel to report himself to the Academia's colisseum.
(Academia's Colloseum/Academia/Fusion Dimension)
Fireworks detonated above the colisseum of the academia, taking the forms of many legendary monsters, such as Kuriboh, Wattapon, Time Wizard and of course, the legendary Blue-Eyes White dragons.
The entire arena was filled with students all organized by their jacket colors. The Slifer Reds, The Ra Yellow and the Obelisk Blues. All of them were cheering and celebrating the arrival of the new soldiers that shall embark to the other dimensions for their noble cause.
As expected, Nate looked around the coliseum with wonder and marble while he watched confetti fall over, as he felt pretty happy that everyone was expecting his visit with a celebration this big.
"Well, you look quite happy Nate." Whisper commented as he watched Nathan feeling positive as he walked alongside his fellow piers to the arena in order.
"Thanks Whisper." Adams gladly responded as he turned his head to the ghost's direction. "I mean, I was expecting the welcoming party to be this big and grand, but it seems that I underestimated the Academia's standards for a welcome party." He then turned his head up to the sky to witness the colorful confetti hailing over the stadium. "Sometimes, it feels nice that they recognize you for something…" He muttered, as he felt fulfilled that people outside Yo-Kai were meriting him, despite being for being admitted to the Dueling School. Though, he quickly realized that his ghostly butler looked nervous like back at Springdale. "And speaking of which, why are you still carrying that stiff expression Whisper? Like seriously, you're going to infect me with that-"
"Ohohoho! Silly Nate! Of course I ain't worried about anything!" Whisper quickly replied to cover his worries about the Academia's true intentions from Nate. He felt that it wasn't the correct time to tell him the truth. "I-I just… really want to go to the bathroom! You know that the long trip we took at the boat filled my necessity's bag, but I tried to hold it to not ruin your big day!" He babbled and see if he could believe his lie. Fortunately for the Yo-Kai, the ceremony was about to begin. "Oh look Nate! It seems that your initiation celebration's about to begin." Whisper quickly pointed at Nate to the center platform of the coliseum after the staff of the Academia finished up organizing the new students in columns.
Once that happened, the colisseum was in complete silence. Not a single word was heard from the teachers, nor students. It was slightly creepy, but it showed that Order and Law ruled over the Academia.
A woman then walked by the arena. She was a beautiful woman with brunette hair and a vuxom figure who wore a light blue jacket and skirt with a set of boots. She then stopped once she stood in front of the new students. "New Students of the Academia, I am welcome you all to the most prestigious Dueling School on the entire world!" She exclaimed with energy while waving at the new students. "My name is Fonda Fontaine, Head Professor of the Female Obelisk Blue Dormitory and P.E. Teacher to y'all!" She exclaimed as she held a digital tablet amongst her arm. "And it's an honor to introduce you to the headmaster of the Academia!" She exclaimed, which caused the platform on the center of the arena to be shrouded in thick fog for a dramatic effect. "And now, witness the man who changed the dueling landscape forever! The most brilliant scientist in the world, savior and pioneer to the dreamed utopia, absolute authority of the Academia and current C.E.O. of Kaiba Corp…" Once Fontaine began to describe how wonderful the Professor was, Leo Akaba was beginning to ascend from a hidden platform like how some stage performers do it to appear more dramatic.
There weren't any triumphant cheers nor anything similar. All of the Academia's members, except for the freshmen stood up from their seats once the Professor made his apparition for everyone to see.
Whisper felt an aura of dread coming from the Professor. There was something in his look that sprouted terror and anxiety right through his super-natural Soul. "S-so he must be Leo Akaba, the h-human that's gotten L-lord Enma sleepless?" Whisper though in his mind, wondering if Leo Akaba's treat to the world either comes from his high charisma, or perhaps that shiny bald head of his.
"Proud soldiers of the Academia, All Hail the Professor, Leo Akaba!" Fontaine shouted as she saluted to greet the absolute authorithy of the Academia.
"Wait! S-s-soldiers!?" Whisper gasped at the mentioning of the word of soldiers to refer all of the students. He then watched as the other students and teachers of the Academia began to salute as loyal soldiers to the Professor's Arrival. None were noticed to do the salute differently, as each one of them did it in perfection. The freshmen (Nate included) were mostly lost and confused over fact that they referenced the other members as soldiers. Did they signed up for a military camp instead of a dueling school?
"I appreciate the praise, Ms. Fontaine." The Professor contested in a collected manner. "Now please, leave." He ordered the woman as he stood on the podium to give his speech to his new recruits.
Fonda obeyed the Professor as she made her exit to give Leo Akaba the spotlight.
Once ready, Leo Akaba looked at his new soldiers with an indifferent narrow, all except for Nate, who believes that the brunette boy will be a valuable asset to undo this dimensional mess and return her daughter to life. Furthermore, he returned his attention to all the new guys to give them his welcoming speech.
"New students of the Academia!" The Professor exclaimed in the podium's mike to catch the attention of the new students. "As you are all know, I am Leo Akaba, the headmaster of the Academia, and current president of Kaiba Corp. after the tragic disappearance of former C.E.O. Seto Kaiba." He told everyone as he introduced himself to the new faces. "From the bottom of my heart, I congratulate all of you who got admitted into my academy as your dueling capabilities have been recognized by me and my assessors." The Professor then paused for a brief moment before proceeding. "As you're all aware, those who enlist themselves on the Academia are unable to leave to the outside world, and any connections to it are not allowed. If any of you were not able to say farewell to any of your close familiars of friends due to circumstances out of your reach, I apologize." Leo bowed in apology, pretending to care.
"AND WE CAN'T EVEN LEAVE THE ISLAND!? WHAT IS THIS!? SOME SORT OF CHEAP REALITY SHOW!?" Whisper shouted in suspense. "NATE! DO YOU HAVE WAX IN YOUR EARS OR WHAT!? WE'RE TRAPPED FOR WHO KNOWS HOW LONG! WHY ARE YOU ACTING SO CALM!? IS YOUR BRAIN OFF!? ANSWER ME!" Whisper began to constantly pull Nate's jacket while freaking out, but to respond, the human grabbed the ghost before he could cause any unwanted ruckus.
"Of course I knew Whisper… We all knew… It came in the bulletin…" Nate whispered to the Yo-Kai's ears while gritting his teeth in irritation.
"You may all expect to leave the island as experienced Pro-Duelists to take on the world, but unfortunately, we're facing desperate times." Leo then pressed a button on the Podium that showed a holographic screen. "I'm sorry to bring this topic too soon during your initiation ceremony. But in actuality, we're facing an interdimensional threat by 3 dimensions that wish to invade and devastate our home. They go by the names of Standard, Synchro and Xyz and they're targeting our dimension called Fusion." Leon then proceed to show footage of the 3 other dimensions, portraying them to be hellish landscapes filled with unredeemable and downright evil people committing all sorts of evil acts.
Nate wasn't paying that much attention, but was still weird out about the whole dimensional thing stuff. Sure, he has hopped between different temporal eras and a few different worlds, but he couldn't buy it off that someone that has no affiliation with Yo-Kai says that a dimensional war was coming, but then again, Leo Akaba was the one speaking it about, so maybe it could be true and the start of his new nonsensical adventure.
Whisper thought the same, but with a more worried feeling. He was secretly recording the Professor's speech on his Yo-Kai pad to later send it to Zazel for him to think about something to further advance their counter-measures against the Academia's wicked end-goals.
"You all shall receive proper training in the field of dueling, transforming your everyman bodies into super-soldier weapons of Justice. Thanks to our top-professors, upperclassmen and Fusion courses, none shall be able to defeat you in a duel, ever!" The Professor exclaimed, causing the crowd to cheer up aside from Nate, thinking that it's gonna suck ass to exercise himself to death. "Now, to sort your capabilities… Each one of shall be assigned to one of our most experienced students or teachers as your dueling opponents and I shall personally analyze the resolve you shown through your duel, which shall be the decisive factor for your assortment you're your corresponded dorm." The Professor proceed to show the 3 different dorms of the Academia by skipping to a hologram of the 3 legendary Egyptian Gods.
The new students were left with their jaws open by the mere sight of these legendary beasts. They may be holograms, but was a wonder to behold 3 of the most powerful monsters in all of Duel Monsters.
"Slifer Red, the dorm of those students with a dormant potential is the lowest dorm rank, Ra Yellow the dorm of students that flying through greatness is the middle dorm rank, and finally Obelisk Blue the dorm of the students considered to be the peak of dueling." He finished before turning off the holograms of the 3 Divine beasts. "If you're assigned to an undesirable dorm, do not worry. You shall be able to be ascended to the higher dorms if you show yourself to be a valuable duelist to the Academia." Leo Akaba turned off his holographic presentation to give some last words to his new students. "I wish you the best of luck during your initiation duels, and be all welcome to the Academia." And with that, the Professor ended his speech and got off the platform to order some Obelisk Blue students to disassemble the platform to make way for the duels.
The new students were guided by Fontaine to the bleachers alongside the other Students of the Academia and wait to be called out when it's their turn to duel in front of everyone else.
As for the professor, he sat into his golden throne of the Coliseum, that was located into a special temple built between the audience's seats like those old roman coliseums. Beside him, there were 2 thrones on his left and right each, all crafted out of luxurious materials, but there was no one there to seat on their thrones, for now.
"Apologies if I may arrived on an undesirable time, Professor." The Supreme King arrived at the Professor's opera box while doing a bow of apology. "I've ran to some trouble with the Commodore Noro."
"Not at all, you've came in time, Supreme King Jaden Yuki…" The Professor turned to see his most powerful and also most loyal soldier, considered to be the absolute commander of the Obelisk Force.
The most feared person of all of the Academia then took his seat on the throne beside Leo's right side, showing that he's known to be the Professor's right hand and 2nd in command of all the Academia. He then crossed his legs and rested his head over his right fist as his arm was resting over the right armchair of his throne before turning his attention to see the left most-center throne still being empty. "So Yuri still hasn't come here yet, despite him being fully aware of his responsibilities as 1 of the 4 heavenly kings of the Academia."
"Let him be, Jaden. You know well how he prefers to watch these kinds of events from the shadows." The Professor responded his most trusted general's question.
"I understand your point Professor." Yuki nodded. "But even today, I still have no idea why you give him full freedom to do whatever his twisted heart desires, despite knowing that he's one of Zarc's fragments. If one of the goals of the Arc Area Project is to exterminate Zarc, why haven't you killed him right on the spot?" The Supreme King questioned his superior's decision of letting the Fusion fragment of the Supreme King Dragon live and serve under the Academia's wing.
The Professor turned his head to narrow at his commander, yet the kid hasn't flinched in fright. In fact, he retained that cold and stoic look on his face, like if he was dead inside or something. "You must be aware that it's a sin to question my choices…" He reminded Jaden that questioning the Professor's will was prohibited in the Academia. "Even if Yuri's a ticking time-bomb in the verge of exploding, Yuri's skills and ruthlessness have been great weapons for our Arc Area Project, inside and outside of Dueling." The emperor of the Academia then looked closely at one of the entrance gates of the Academia to see the cloaked figure hidden between its darkness. "Besides, all he has in life are Duels and myself. I was the only one who embraced like the father figure he never had when all the students of the Academia were so afraid of him, no one wanted to duel with him…"
"But, what about Seren-"
"Did I stutter?" Leo interrupted his soldier before finishing up his sentence.
"Pardon me, Professor…" Jaden apologized for interrupting the Professor's explanation.
"Good…" The Professor said. "I suggest turning our attention to the new recruit's skills in the meantime, and see if our Star student's powers shall be helpful to the my dreams of absolute control over the perfect utopia we shall build over the corpses of the other dimensions." Leo then narrowed back at Nate down the bleachers.
Jaden narrowed as he turned his attention back at the arena. Perhaps Nate Adams could be a diamond in the rough of mediocrity made of the other new students.
Then, a pair of demonic claws began to hold the Supreme King's shoulders. The movement of the arms made it clear that this was meant on a seductive and lovely way.
"Why is the Professor so obsessed with that dumb kid down there? He doesn't look to be worth the time." Asked a demonic female voice coming from a black-and-pink humanoid demonic spirit.
"Silence Yubel. The Professor's directives are absolute and cannot be opposed by any means. He knows what he does, and what he does is for the glory of the Academia." The Supreme King looked at the Duel Spirit behind him with a heart-freezing look.
"Ngh… Why are you talking to me, someone that deeply loves you like that?" Yubel the Duel Spirit began to whisper through her Duelist's ear. "You know, ever since that old fart took control over this whole island you used to call Duel Academy, you began to act all grumpy and edgy. Where did all that optimism of yours went?"
"Are you trying to tease me with your annoying excuses of flirting, Yubel?" The Supreme King was growling at his close Duel Spirit with rising irritated tone. "Because if you wish to see me fall in love with you, I can pretend once we're over with the initiation duels and see if you can finally shut up about it." He turned his head from demoness beside him and return his attention towards the upcoming duels. But in actuality, Yubel's words hit him like a golfball doing a hole in one in an endless abyss of regret and grief. "The reason why the Professor is so intrigued with that student is because our branches informed us that this kid wields a Special wristwatch that allows him to see and summon the spiritual beings known as Yo-Kai. Just as my ability to see and command Duel Spirits have aided the Academia on their conquest, he believes that he could do something similar with Yo-Kai." Jaden explained to his Duel Spirit on why his master was so intrigued over Nathan. "But all that's left is to see if he's really up to the Academia's expectations…"
Back with the kid and his 2 Yo-Kai friends, they were slacking off on the seats of the stadium. The new students and their opponents haven't been sorted out yet, so Nate was digging up some gold up his nose to pass the time.
"Ew! Gross!" Whisper blarged in disgust seeing what his master was doing right now. "We already talked about this Nate. You know what happens when you take out your boogers and throw them off to who-knows-where? So don't come crying to me or Jibanyan if you happen to be inspirited by another Snottle!"
"You know, for someone who's name is Whisper, you seem to shout more often than not." Nate brushed off his ghost butler's complains like how he recently did with the booger he picked out of his nose. "Besides, the Initiation Duels haven't been decided yet. So all of us have enough time to relax, see what type of cards and strategies the other Academia guys use and then-"
"The Initiation Duel's matchmaking has been decided!" A disembodied voice shouted from a megaphone as the giant screen on top of the Colisseum's seats showed off which opponent the new recruits shall they face. "Nathan Adams, you have been elected to be the first one to duel, and show the Academia your power in Dueling!"
The Yo-Kai Watcher looked at the announcement without words. He was quiet for a brief awkward moment, but he later would give a reaction worth to see…
"WHAAAAAAAAAAT!?" Poor Adams wiggled and cried like a banshee once he saw that he was going to be the first one to duel, and most likely fail in the process.
"Well, what do you know? Lady Karma can be pretty cruel sometimes." Whisper jiggled with a smug grin on his white face, seeing how badly the concept of Karma hit Nate like the truck that killed Jibanyan.
"Ugh… Shut up Whisper." Nathan groaned before grabbing the poor Slippery Yo-Kai by the swirl on his head.
"H-HEY! DON'T DRAG ME LIKE THAT NATE! YOU'RE GONNA RIP OUT MY BEAUTIFUL SWIRL!" The Butler squabble and flail his arms as he was being dragged on by his friend like a rag doll.
"Bye you too! I'll be cheering y'all from this sweet spot, Nyan." Jibanyan waved goodbye to the duo of the human and Yo-Kai while sitting his ass over the seats of the roman stadium as he stuff his face with chocobars, as per usual.
"Oh no you don't! You're coming with me, red furball!" Nathan barked at the cat before pulling him too for the ride by his feline collar. Jibanyan hissed and shrieked as he was also being pulled by force to the stadium.
Once he made himself present at the Stadium, he noticed that the referee of this match was quite the good-looking woman. Aside from being blessed with a slender figure and big chest, she had a long and beautiful blond hair. Nathan knew that she was from the Obelisk dorm due to her pair of blue high-heel boots, skirt and white jacket alongside a black tight sleeveless sweater.
"Hey! You know that my eyes are up here, you know?" The female student called Nate's attention, which snap him out from his trance. But she said it with a playful tone, giving Nate the relief that he wouldn't be seen as a pervert. After all, he and Katie are already a couple, and he won't risk his relation in the absolute.
"Gah! Oh, s-sorry…" He apologized to the girl after gasping out. "A-anyways… Shouldn't my opponent be her already? Did she or he went to the bathroom, or…" Adams questioned the Obelisk with confusion. Considering that he's going against someone that the Academia retracts as a top Elite, he would at least expect his upcoming rival to be punctual.
The referee of Obelisk Blue took the Brunette boy's question in consideration. "That's weird… he's the one who loathes tardy people the most." She looked at the other side of the ring wondering why Nate's opponent hasn't reported himself to the arena as ordered.
"How many times do I have to tell you ungrateful slacker, It's Dr. Crowler and NOT Professor or Mister Crowler!" A voice came from the corridor of one of the entrances, for it to show itself as a lanky blonde man whose visage make people confuse him as a very ugly-looking woman, and his surprisingly long ponytail didn't made him a favor to clear out said confusion. Nathan could tell that his opponent belonged with the Obelisk Blue guys, possibly head professor of the boy's dormitory by his blue regal garb. The teacher realized that his antics were being seen by the Obelisk girl and the soon-to-be Academia students. "Uhh… I-i-I swear I was in my way to my appointment here, b-b-but…"
"Don't tell me you got into another fight, Dr. Crowler…" The Obelisk girl palmed her face in disappointment upon discovering that the top teacher wasted his time over defending his honorific as Doctor.
"W-what!? O-of course not Mrs. Rohdes! W-why would I do that?" The wacky teacher flailed his arms to deny any statement that was against him. "It's not my fault that these rodents don't know when to respect dueling expert like me."
"What? You mean an expert of rambling duels?" Nate added to tease off the professor in front of him due to making him wait for him to appear and duel him.
The comment burst out a laugh amongst most of the Academia students, including some members of Obelisk Blue.
"W-why you? Who do you take me for, you unrateful child!? Do you realize who am i?" Crowler barked in short temper over Nathan's commentary.
"I don't know, a slowpoke grandma?" Adams smugged at Crowler, provoking another round of laughs all over the stadium. It was pretty fortunate that both Leo and Jaden didn't mind this.
"Nate! Don't you know where to behave yourself? And you're expecting everyone to respect you if you keep making these mediocre-at-best jokes?" Whisper called out his friend's inappropriate behavior over the Obelisk representative and how it could hurt his reputation in the Academia.
"Why you!?" Crowler began to turn red like a tomato as clouds of fume began to sprout out from his ears over his comical temper tantrum. "I SWEAR I WILL-"
"Both of you! Calm down!" Alexis calmed down the 2 duelists before their dispute could snowball into an all-out-war. "You're giving an example to your fellow members of the Academia. So if you wish to set aside your differences, better resolve it with a duel. Like it should be."
Crowler managed to calm down from his comedic rage. "Right, we don't set aside our differences with insults. We're not primates! We let our cards and monsters decide!" Crowler exclaimed as he activated his uniquely-shaped Duel Disc that only carry the Dorm lead teachers known as a duel vest. "Let's see if your bite is just a strong as your annoying bark, Nathan Adams! I'll give you a lesson about respecting those above you until you swim back to your mom crying!" He pointed at the teenager that he was ready to kick his ass in this duel.
"Ahh! Finally!" Nathan gruffed as he activated his new Duel Disk in a not-so-dramatic fashioh. "I was beginning to die out of boredom here."
"Uhh, Nate? Are you sure you know what you're doing?" Whisper politely asked Nate if he believed that his dueling skills were as big as the confidence he's showing.
"To be honest Whisper, I have no idea."
"Alright, we're all set!" Alexis declared as she raised her right arm in the air to announce the start of the duel. "This shall be a standard duel! Both of you will start at 4000 Life foints, and the duelist who depletes its opponent's Life Points to 0, wins!"
"Huh! This shall be a piece of cake! I'll show you what happens when you dare to challenge someone with a PhD at dueling!" Crowler said to Nate while preparing himself to wipe the floor with him.
"Wait! since when did humans had a college degree for nyat?" Jibanyan wondered as he popped off from Adam's dufflebag.
"Alright Nate, this is our first match here, so don't hold punches and go for the gold!" Whisper cheered on Nate that he could win this for sure.
"Easier said than done." Nathan responded with a nervous look. "Let's just hope that these new Zombie cards are good, and not a bunch of mashed stuff put together."
"Alright! Bring it on!" Both teacher and freshman shouted as they were all ready to go. "Let's-"
DUEL!
Nathan Adams: 4000 VS Dr. Velian Crowler Medici: 4000
Crowler's 1st turn
Dr Crowler's Hand: 5
"As one of the Academia's top professor and department chair of duel theory and strategies, I shall go first!" Crowler proclaimed before looking at his initial hand, and he couldn't contain his smile over what good hand he drew. "First, let me change the scenery for a bit before I begin to humiliate you, you mannerless brat! I activate the Field Spell, Geartown!" Crowler announced his move as he interested his Field Spell card into his Duel Disc.
Suddendly, a small quake began to take over the stadium as buildings and structures made out of robotic parts and gears began to rise up from the ground beneath the duelists, crowding the battlefield with a mechanical city that showed its age by the state of its buildings.
"While this field is face-up on the field, the both of us can Normal Summon Ancient Gear monsters from our hand with 1 less tribute." The college-degreed duelist told his opponent on what his Field Spell does.
"So let me guess, are you gonna summon a big garbage can or something?" Nathan felt a bit disappointed that someone who calls himself a dueling expert would just resort to a move that would bring down a high-level monster In his hand. "Because if that's your plan, then go on. I won't mind that much."
"Hahaha! A nice hypothesis, but no." Crowler chuckled at Adam's narrow-minded perspective on the situation. "Because this lost city won't stay for long! I now activate the Spell Card, Ancient Gear Catapult." He followed his turn by playing a Spell card from his hand, which summoned a giant mechanical catapult behind him. "I'm only able to use this bad boy if I don't control any monsters on my field." He cackled like a smug troll while giving some small knocks to his weapon behind his back. "Now, I target a face-up card I control and destroy it! and if I do that, I can Special Summon any Ancient Gear monster from my Deck, ignoring its summoning conditions! Alright my catapult, blast Geartown into ashes!" Crowler commanded his automated catapult to destroy his own field spell.
The catapult began to fire gear-shaped bullets across Geartown, destroying everything until the city's collapse caused an impact which covered the main arena in a big cloud of dust.
"*Cough* *Cough* Why would that weird-looking man destroy his own cards?" Whisper wasn't sure on to why Crowler blew up Geartown without hesitation while coughing out dust that has entered his mouth.
"He literally told us 5 seconds ago, Whisper!"
"Nyyaaa! G-guys..?" Jibanyan yelped to call the attention of the kid and the ghost to where he was looking. Suddenly, they discovered a silhouette of titanic proportions whose glowing red eye sent shivers down their spines.
"Now tremble and witness, before this colossal guardian from a civilization ruled by machines! Step Forward Legendary Mechanical Giant, Level 8! Ancient Gear Golem!" Crowler shouted with joy while the dust cleared off with the brute movement of a giant robot hand, revealing a giant humanoid robot, and one of Dr. Crowler's Signature cards in Attack Position.
(Ancient Gear Golem/EARTH/Machine/LV: 8/ATK: 3000/DEF: 3000) (Position: Attack)
"Wowsers! That weird creepy woman summoned a big monster in his first turn!" One of the new students exclaimed from its seat.
"That's so cool!"
"Grrr! HOW MANY TIMES DO I HAVE TO TELL YOU ALL GOOD FOR NOTHING HELLSPAWNS!? IT'S DR. CROWLER! I DIDN'T SPENT 4 YEARS IN MY LIFE TO GAIN MY DUELING DEGREE FOR YOU LITTLE DEVILS TO DISRESPECT ME LIKE THAT!" The Ancient Gear duelist blew his fuse once again as he began to antagonize the new recruits, but a cold narrow from the Supreme King was enough to correct the eccentric teacher down.
"W-well, this is gonna be a big problem." Nate gulped, seeing that he's against a giant killer robot on his next turn.
"Sweet mother of heavens! What is that!" Whisper quickly came to Adam's side frightened after seeing another metallic monster besides the Ancient Gear Golem.
For Nate's infortune, he saw that a menacing robot hydra was summoned alongside Ancient Gear Golem.
(Ancient Gear Hydra/EARTH/Machine/LV: 7/ATK: 2700/DEF: 1700) (Battle Position: Attack)
"Hey! Nyo fair! Didn't he destroyed that geartown thing of his before using that catapult, nya?" Jibanyan fumed over how Crowler pulled another menacing machine into his field.
"Ancient Gear Hydra was summoned thanks to Geartown's other effect. When is destroyed, it lets its user Special Summon an Ancient Gear monster from its hand, Graveyard or Deck. And assuming by "Dr. Crowler" here, he must called that oversized junkyard from his deck." Nate clarified his cat's questions about the hydra. "But luckily, he couldn't Special Summon Ancient Gear Golems from his Deck due to a weird ruling that it cannot be Special Summoned. Well, mabybe except with stuff like that Ancient Gear Catapult."
"Ah, that's a good observation. And then I thought you were a distracted fly." Crowler had to admit that he was impressed over Nathan's analysis. "But words won't take you that far, boy! For my next move, I'll summon this winged menace! Appear, Ancient Gear Wyvern!" Crowler continued his turn by Normal Summoning his next monster.
"GWRAAAH!" A greenish robot wyvern roared as it manifested on the teacher's grounds as it began to fly around over the stadium before landing on Ancient Gear Golem's left side.
(Ancient Gear Wyvern/EARTH/Machine/LV: 4/ATK: 1700/DEF: 1200) (Battle Position: Attack)
"And when Ancient Gear Wyvern is Summoned, it allows me to add any Ancient Gear card from my deck. And I just have the perfect card to put on my hand." Crowler said with an arrogant grin on his face as he added a monster named Ancient Gear Box. "And my combo doesn't stop there! Since I added my little Ancient Gear Box to my hand outside by drawing it, it lets me add 1 adicional Machine monster with either 500 Attack or Defense points. Now I'll add Ancient Gearframe to my hand with this effect. It's a 2x1 sale offer!"
"As expected from Dr. Crowler." The Professor admired the duel from his emperor's throne. "He always prioritizes his combo with Geartown and Ancient Gear Catapult to swarm his field with powerful machine monsters to overwhelm and pressure his opponents."
"He's considered one of our best Ancient Gear duelists in the Academia for a reason. Even the Obelisk Force wish to scratch his level." Jaden looked down at Crowler, who used to always scheme on getting him expelled from the Academia years ago. "Still, his short temper and fragile pride seems to hold back his potential..."
"Though, fortunately for you Mr. Adams, due to Ancient Gear Wyvern's effect, I'm unable to set cards the turn I activate its effect. Consider yourself lucky that my field is free from any landmines. Ohohohoho!" The teacher of the Obelisk Blue laughed, expecting some sort of stressed reaction over the boy.
"If you already knew about your Wyvern's drawbacks, why didn't you set your traps before summoning it?" Adams attacked back with that question, which left the teacher speechless and frozen in place.
"Ehhh…" Crowler tried to think about an excuse as soon as possible. "I… It's part of my secret master plan of course!" He squabbled to shoo off the awkwardness of the situation. "A-anyway, I end my turn! Now go on and start yours!" He told Nate that it was his turn already. "Phew… I've dodged a fat one there. I was almost left in riducule by that kid over there, but I have to admit that he does have a good sense of analyzing duels."
"Oh well…" Nate said nervously. It was finally time to show what he and his deck are capable off. And despite being overwhelmed by strong monsters, he at least had a feeling he could pull this off.
Nate's 1st turn
"I draw!" The brunette boy shouted as he drew the top-card of his deck.
Nate's Hand: 6
"Aw man… My hand's a bummer…" Nathan felt pretty down once he saw that his hand wasn't as good as he hoped it would be.
"Hey! It's too soon to throw in the towel Nate!" Whisper tried to turn up his master's mood "And besides, maybe you could have a chance with this card over here." He then dragged the kid's attention over the continuous spell he recently drew in his draw phase, which gave Nathan an idea to turn things around.
"Oh, you're right Whisper!" He gave himself some soft slaps on his cheeks to concentrate and boost his morale. "Alright, let me show you what my spirits can do! And I'll begin by playing this Continuous Spell, Crank-A-Kai!" Nate shouted as he played the spell Whisper recommend him to play.
Suddendly, a giant object began to rise like a zombie getting up from its grave behind Nathan's back, maybe rivalizing that Ancient Gear Catapult Crowler played last turn. Once it was fully risen, the object was revealed to be none other than the Great Sacred Tree from Mount Wildwood alongside the Crank-A-Kai made out of stone.
"Well, that's new. I've never seen a card like that." Yuri pointed out that he never heard of a card like that. After all, the Academia has every card printed and created by Industrial Illusions, Kaiba Corp and outside sources on their main database. And they don't have that card registered in their database.
"And now here is It's effect!" Nate proclaimed as he was about to activate the Crank-A-Kai's effect. "But first, I need to discard 1 card from my hand in order to activate it." He then proceed to discard Mezuki from his hand to the graveyard, causing a coin with the Zombie's face to appear before being inserted into the capsule machine's coin slot. "Once per turn, I can draw a card from my Deck. And if it is a Level 4 or lower Zombie monster, I can Special Summon it! Otherwise, it goes to the Graveyard." He declared the spell's effect before drawing a card from his deck, making the crank-a-kai spin its handle, expelling a single stone capsule to the ground. "Come one! Gimme something big! Something big! Daddy needs a new pair of shoes!" Nathan prayed that the card he drew could be something useful.
Once he fully drew, the capsule open itself, which released a purple spectral cloud all across the arena to cover what's inside. And for Nathan's delight…
"DID SOMEONE CALLED FOR SARGEANT BURLY!?" The Oni Fitness Instructor popped out from the capsule as he shouts with energy and optimism for all the spectators to see.
(SGT. Burly, The Brave Yo-Kai/LIGHT/Zombie/LV: 3/ATK: 1000/DEF: 1000) (Battle Position: Defense)
"Wow! It is you Burly!" Nate felt glad that he summoned something from his trade-off, and that it was a friendly face.
"Hold the phone up! How do we know it is you and not a hologram copy?" Whisper felt skeptical if the burly before their eyes was the real deal or just a cheap copy made out of numbers and data.
"Well of course its me, you flabby marshmallow!" The leader of the legendary Blasters team boasted at the White ghost while making fun of his round body. "Wowzers Nate! You sure have grown! Hope you haven't slacked off your exercise routine!"
"Y-yeah, kinda…" Nathan replied a bit awkwardly. "A-anyways, I can save questions for later. We have a duel to win!"
"Yo' said it soldier!" The Yo-Kai agreed as he was ready to help Nate win this duel. "And now here comes my effect! When I'm face-up on the field, the Attack points of all Yo-Kai monsters are raised by 500! Come on y'all! One, two, three, PO!" Burly began to dance and exercise on the spot where he was, causing a yellow aura to envelop him and raise his attack.
(SGT. Burly, The Brave Yo-Kai/ATK: 1000 – 1500)
"W-what in Ra's name's… H-how is your monster able to talk about h-his own effect?" Crowler felt both scared and speechless about was Burly able to talk so casually.
"Uhhh… Real Solid Vision, I guess?" Nate tried to sugarcoat this to not cause an unwanted commotion. "Y-you know how great the Professor is with his outstanding technology, hahaha… But anyways, I still have some plays to make! As from my hand, I summon this! Come on out, Usapyon, The Shady Yo-Kai!" Nate followed his turn by playing another one of his ghostly friends from his hand."
But on an unexpected turn of events, once the Yo-Kai of the Shady Tribe was invoked into the Academia's grounds, he didn't looked like he was in the fighting mood. Instead, he was found relaxing with a pair of sunglassed over his space bunny suit and wearing a yellow Hawaiian shirt, all while drinking from a fresh coconut, sitting on a beach chair without any care in the world.
"Aaahh… Now that's what I called some well deserved vacation." Usapyon looked chilled and relaxed as he still wasn't aware about his predicament. "Gotta give it to ya' Hailey. This vacations to Hawaii had to be yo' best tootin' idea. Just me, the sun, the beach, and a GROUP OF GIANT KILLER ROBOTS!? WHAT IN TARNATION IS HAPPENIN'!" The Yo-Kai otter shifted his laxed mood to an absolutely terrified one once he took off his glassed and saw the group of Ancient Gear monsters narrowing at him.
(Usapyon, The Shady Yo-Kai/DARK/Zombie/LV: 4/ATK: 1600/DEF: 0) (Battle Position: Attack)
"Uhh… Well, this is awkard…" Whisper said, seeing that they summoned Usapyon on the most wrong moment possible.
"Ehh… H-hi Usapyon…" Adams said hi to the otter with some regret. The Merican Yo-Kai looked like he was having some nice summer vacations alongside fellow Yo-Kai Watch wielder and super-otaku Haily Anne.
"Alright Nate, yo' better tell me what is happenin' right now! And yo' better have a good reason for summonin' me! Can't yo' see that Yo-Kai have afterlives too?" Usapyon hopped in fury, demanding an explanation on what was happening.
"Hey there soldier, glad you could join us in this battle!" Burly went to greet Usapyon without any previous warning and felt glad that his old friend was here to help them. But Usapyon was not that glad to be here. "So don't you stand there like a lazy boulder, gotta need to build those muscles of yours again! Come on, follow my steps!" Burly continued to exercise as he began to inspirit the poor otter to join him.
"W-what? Wait, hold on! I'm not ready yet! I'm not ready yet!" Usapyon begged Burly to spare him, but his body was already beginning to act on his own as if followed the Oni's moves. "PLEASE! MAKE IT STOP!"
(Usapyon, The Shady Yo-Kai/ATK: 1600 – 2100)
"Hey Nyate, shouldn't we be worried about, you know…" Jibanyan rose the question if they should be careful about the space otter exploding, as they were all away how short fused Usapyon was.
"Ehhh, better for later." Nathan pushed back this question to concentrate on the duel. "Anyways, since I Summoned a Yo-Kai monster, I can Special Summon this fella from my hand! Say hello to Walkappa, The Charming Yo-Kai!" Nate then summoned his old and humble kappa friend Walkappa to the field thanks to his effect.
"Hey dude! Been a long time since we met, but feels good to be again with you, man." Said the small blue kappa creature as he saluted his human friend.
(Walkappa, The Charming Yo-Kai/WATER/Zombie/LV: 4/ATK: 1300/DEF: 0) (Battle Position: Attack)
"And when I Summon Walkappa, I gain 500 Life Points for every Yo-Kai I control with a different name on my field!" Nate exclaimed as Walkappa began to use his elemental powers to uplift a torrent of water, which busted and released a small rain which not only emitted a rainbow, but also replenished Nathan's Life Points.
Nathan's LP: 4000 – 5500
"And don't forget bout' my buffing effect! Get in here soldier! Ge got some flab to burn!" Burly invited Walkappa to join his fitness bootcamp.
"Wowsers! That's sounds pretty radical! Count me in!" Unlike USapyon, the Kappa seemed to don't mind to take the exercise routine as he began to follow the Brave Yo-Kai's moves.
(Walkappa, The Charming Yo-Kai/ATK: 1300 – 1800)
"Interesting…" The Professor began to took interests in Nate's monsters' way to act inside the battlefield. "Our database hasn't shown any type of Yo-Kai cards that exists in the game, and these "Yo-Kai" Nathan has been using seem to react act on their own to a human-like capacity." The Professor though, seeing how odd the spirits in Nate's field acted and expressed themselves. "Through my years developing the Real Solid Vision program, I've envisioned the possibility to give Duelis Monsters human emotions, but even if I achieved the creation of duel monster holograms with real solid mass, they still continued to behave like lifeless robots following their duelist's commands. I knew that the duelists with the ability to see and talk with Duel Spirits could help both the further development of the RSV program and power up the Arc-V reactor, but I've never seen duel spirits act somehow neglectful to their own duelists. Are they really duel spirits, or perhaps those are the real Yo-Kai he managed to summon through his Duel Disc…?"
"Alright, now everything's set! Time to battle!" Nathan announced that he's about to proceed with his battle phase. "Alright USApyon, go on and attack Ancient Gear Wyvern!" He commanded the space otter to shoot out the Wyvern out of their way, but soon he discovered that the Shady Yo-Kai wasn't obeying his orders.
"Oh crud…" Whisper said, feeling that they just released USApyon's bad side.
"Yo' dumb weasels sabotaged my perfect vacations…" The Otter's tone began to sound raspier and angrier as he clenched his fists and began to rattle to contain his explosive anger. "Pulled me to sum' dumb game of yours like a darn pawn, made my body sweat till' ending up as dry as a raisin'…" He turned his head over the kid behind him, only for Nate to see that USApyon held an absolute angered expression.
"Oh, watch out soldier! USApyon's gonna explode! Retreat!" Burly warned his troops as he was no stranger to USApyon's fits.
"Uhh? Why you're acting so tense dude?" Walkappa wasn't aware of this fact still, but nonetheless the Oni lifted the Kappa out of his spot before the upcoming crossfire could turn him into swiss cheese.
"This is gonna hurt, so freaking hard…" Nathan was beginning to regret on summoning the Shady Yo-kai without his permission, and now he's going to receive the major boot down his ass.
"Why you little…" USApyon snarled, clouded in his own temper as he pressed 2 buttons under his astronaut helmet simultaneously, shrouding its inside with a thick pitch-black gas, not long before a pair of 2 mallicious glowing red eyes manifested within the Yo-Kai's face. This only meant one thing and one thing only…
"VADER MODE!" A deep and sinister voice announced while Usapyon pulled out his carrot-shaped laser gun, beginning to pull its trigger simultaneously which sent red lasers all across the arena, all the while beginning to chase off Nathan with murdering intentions.
"Ah shit! RUN!" Nate screamed before moving away from his spot to run for his life alongside his 2 Yo-Kai friends from the Texan space bunny's rampage.
The Shady Yo-Kai's loosen projectiles began to impact through random areas of the colisseum, destroying some parts of it. The chaos that was happening made the students watching the duel get up from their seat and scatter in terror like a pack of rats being discovered by a person.
Luckily, the Professor's seat seems to be protected by an invisible force field that bounced off the red beams that were coming at him. "How amusing…" Leo Akaba though in delight. To think a creature as small as USApyon could cause so much destruction and chaos…
All the while, Yuri was watching the pandemonium happening outside from the confort and safety of his shadowy spot. "Seems that for a small creature, he seems to hold a small temper too. And a big ability to blow up stuff." He said with a slight interest. "So is this why you're so worried about the slacker over there, my best friend?" He asked the shadow that lives inside of him, causing said entity to appear before Yuri's eyes.
"Just like I thought, the young king of hell is trying to stop us… It looks like the holder of the Yo-Kai Watch's card contain unimaginable power." The shadow had to confess that the power the Yo-Kai had was admirable for his standpoint. That, and that he's fully aware of the existence of Lord Enma, and his plan to stop the upcoming end of the world. "Then again, I'll have to remind you the reason I'm concerned about that brat over there is because my arch-nemesis is holding an interest on him..."
Back at the arena, Alexis was showing outstanding aerobic skills by dodging the bullets that were coming at her. "You better stop your monster from attacking all the students, otherwise I'll have to take countermeasures and disqualify you before you injure someone!" Alexis warned Nathan that if he doesn't stop USApyon's unbound wrath, he'll lose the duel and most likely, be expelled from the Academia.
"And you better do it fast! Your little rodent here set my dear uniform on fire! Do you have any darn idea how hard and expensive is to clean this!?" Crowler was next to shout at Adams while trying to put down the fire on his uniform while still struggling to dodge the laser beams.
"Da' hell did you call me, old hag?" USApyon stopped his blindless rage once he heard the teacher's insult toward's him. He changed target on who to disintegrate with his laser gun as he began to slowly walk towards Crowler menacingly.
"Uhh… Uhh… S-sorry my bad! What I meant to say was ehh, uhh… P-pretty otter! T-that's it! A-are you perhaps an otter b-by any chance? B-because if you ain't, I'm s-sorry m-mister… ehh! SOMEBODY! HELP! I'M GONNA GET KILLED BY A YELLOW THING RIGHT HERE!" Crowler plead for someone to get him out of this trouble as he couldn't help himself, but to shake in fear like a plate of jelly over the Shady Yo-Kai's menacing aura.
"The only screams folks here' gonna hear, will be your screams of utter suffering!" USApyon told the defenseless crowler with a deep and metallic voice as he pointed his blaster at the poor professor's face. "Rot in hell!"
"He's open! Now!" Nate quickly hurled himself behind USApyon's back and restrained him by surprise. He quickly lifted the mad Yo-Kai in relief after being glad his plan worked, but USApyon didn't seem to stop his rampage with the fact that he kept shooting without remorse while flailing his arms to get off Nathan's grasp.
"Quick! We have to think about something to cool off USApyon before the entire islands get blown into pieces!" Whisper quickly came to Nathan's aid, hoping that he already developed a plan to stop the Shady Yo-Kai's savage tantrum.
"H-how should I know Whisper!? I'm no Yo-Kai Therapist to ask me that stuff!" Nathan was as worried as his spooky friend, but he was devoid of ideas to turn off USApyon's wrath.
"Oh, I nyow!" Jibanyan raised his paw while dodging his head from the merican Yo-Kai's blasts. "Maybe if he blows up one of those dumb robot tings, he could have all that nyasty anger out of him, Nya!"
"Are you serious Jibanyan? For what fools do you take us from?" Whisper shook his fist in protest thinking that the cat's plan is way to stupid to work.
"Not like we have much of another choice Whisper!" Nathan had to be with the Jibabyan on this one as he wasn't able to retain USApyon any longer. "Alright, stay still and…" He pointed the angered Yo-Kai where Ancient Gear Wyvern was. "FIRE!" Nathan shouted as he liberated the otter from his arms, causing the Yo-Kai to blast an array of laser beams at the mechanical dragon, causing Ancient Gear Wyvern to be blasted without mercy and finally exploding into a million pieces.
"Aah! Watch where you aim that thing, mister!" Crowler scolded Nate as he dodged the incoming projectiles that were the result of Wyvern's destruction. Nevertheless, he received recoil damage to his Life Points.
Dr. Crowler's LP: 4000 – 3600
"And that's not all! USApyon's effect activates!" Nathan declared as he saw USApyon charging his carrot ray gun with a dark red energy. "Whenever he destroys a monster by battle while I control 2 other Yo-Kai monsters with different names, I can target another monster you control and destroy it! Invader's Fury!" Adams shouted the name of the Yo-Kai's effect as the Yo-kai from the United States was ready to unleash his secret weapon.
"See ya' in hell! HIYAAAAA!" USApyon let out a powerful war cry before unleashing a powerful red laser beam against Ancient Gear Hydra.
The 3-headed automated weapon led out one last cry before being disintegrated by the Shady Yo-kai's Soultimate move into cosmic dust.
Silence invaded the stadium as the otter's attack left a damn impression among the crowd. USApyon finally cooled his nerves downs as the black mist inside his helmet began to disappear.
"Man! You sure left a pretty big show USApyon." Burly came to talk with the space bunny alongside Walkappa once he saw he was on a better mood to speak with.
"Darn…" The otter made some deep breads before turning to see the Yo-Kai fitness instructor and the aloof kappa. "Sorry fellas. I've really let my inner bull take me over at the worst possible moment, ain't i?" USApyon apologized for thrashing the arena due to a fit.
"Oh shit.. I've really done it this time." Nathan cringed, feeling worried that the members of the Academia would call him out for almost smashing the stadium into smithereens. But he will soon realize that this whole fiasco made the people among him express a different reaction.
"That was totally wicked!" One of the Slifer students said with excitement and thrill as he stood up from his seat.
"So much destruction! How exiting!" Shouted a female Obelisk at the same time with gleam.
"If that little critter was able to cause this much chaos, I can't wait to see what the new kid's strongest monster is capable of doing!" A voice coming from a Ra Yellow shouted with amazement.
The crowd of students and teachers were filled with praises and flattery over how violent and savage USApyon's rampage was.
"These people are weird…" Nathan commented, feeling a mixed emotion of relief and confusion. But soon he looked up where the Professor was, which he saw a smirk over his face. It was enough to calm the brunette boy's anxiety and make him concentrate back to the duel. "Well in any case, I'll end my turn by setting a face-down card." He proceed to place a face-down card before ending his turn.
"Bravo Mr. Adams. It seems that you weren't that dumb as I though you would be." Crowler pretended a smug grin to compliment Nathan in order to hide his panic attack after almost dying by the hands of a rabbit in a space-suit. "Even if my precious Ancient Gear Golem was the monster with the highest attack, you knew that my Hydra's effect would be more troublesome to you, so you used your monster's effect to get rid of it."
"Well thanks. As you've probably guess thus far, I've grown a talent to analyze stuff." Nathan delivered the compliment back. Sure, during his life, he managed to develop a natural skill on analyzing things since you need to be alert at anytime when you're a strong magnet for Yo-Kai to inspirit you. But in reality, he was only pretending that he destroyed Ancient Gear Hydra on purpose as he was losing control over the enraged USApyon. Him blasting away the Hydra was just pure luck.
"But unfortunately, analytics alone won't win you duels in the pro-leagues . A good Pro-Duelist always bears a balance between smarts, power and guts." Velian told Nathan as he was ready to begin his second turn.
Crowler's 2nd turn.
"Let me show you how the professionals do things! I draw!" He drew the top card of his deck before taking matters into his own hands.
Crowler's Hand: 5
"First off, I'll begin my turn by playing the spell that I drew! Pot of Greed!" Crowler proclaimed as he casted the infamous card. "As every competent duelist know, this spell allows me to draw 2 additional cards from my deck. So if I'm going to activate this card again, don't expect me to repeat what it does, slacker!" He announced while drawing 2 cards from his deck. And boy! What cards he drew. "Ohohoho! Oh, you're about to have the beatdown of your lifetime! I activate the Spell Card, Ancient Gear Double Imitate!" He played one of the cards he drew, causing a rusty forging machine to appear. "With this card, I can revive 2 of my Ancient Gear monsters from my Graveyard back to my field with their effects negated!"
"Aw man! So nyour efforts were for naught Nyate?" Jibanyan turned at Nathan after seeing that his play of popping off the 2 enemy robots was pretty much futile. But he saw that his human friend had a confident smile that says otherwise.
"Like if hell's gonna let you do that! And I mean that literally!" Nathan shouted at the Ancient Gear duelist. "I activate my Counter Trap, Enma's Judgement!" He revealed the face-down card he had for his opponent. "If you were to activate a monster effect, Spell or Trap while controlling 2 or more Yo-Kai monster, I can tribute 1 Yo-Kai monster to negate your card's activation and destroy it!" Nathan declared before looking at Walkappa. "Hey Walkappa, mind if I tribute you?"
"Don't think of it that much dude. I'll be fine." The Kappa smiled to assure Nate that he's ok if he leaves the field. "Bye y'all!" Walkappa waved goodbye before vanishing with a pillar of light for the trap to resolve.
Once the effect explained, a giant red kanji of king of the Enma tribe was summoned above Adams' head, releasing a heavenly light around itself.
"Wait a second…" Leo Akaba rose a eyebrow once he saw the giant emblem from his throne. "I've seen that symbol before…" The Professor retorted as he remembered that he once saw the symbol of the almighlty Enma Tribe on an ancient manuscript that depicted the ancient legends of the Yo-Kai during his investigations over the paranormal beings with the help of the Doktor.
As for where Yuri was, he felt his Starving Venom Fusion Dragon growl in fear once she sensed the powerful aura of the tribe of the kings of hell.
"Well that's… Odd…" Yuri muttered after seeing how his evil dragon was shaking in fear when it saw the logo glow like a burning sun. "Wonder if that kid is really that special?"
The Shine of the symbol was so intense, it disintegrated the Machine crowler just called forth into a useless pile of rusty junk before blowing up into nothingness.
"Ahh! Why you little…" Crowler managed to calm his nerves before exploding into another angry outburst. "I-I mean, well played. But every good duelists always have a back-up plan in their sleeves, like this one! I now summon my precious and adorable Ancient Gear Hunting Hound!" Crowler exclaimed as he summoned his next monster, now being a human size green robot dog with a set of sharp iron fangs on its, or on the teacher's perspective, her mechanical maw.
(Ancient Gear Hunting Hound/EARTH/Machine/LV: 3/ATK: 1000/DEF: 1000) (Battle Position: Attack)
"There it is! The Obelisk Force's might and pride!" One of the troops of the Obelisk Force told one of his fellow Obelisk soldiers in the crowd once they saw the infamous robot dog in action.
"And this ancient pooch has a lot of tricks both old and new! I activate Hunting Hound's first effect! Once per turn, since you control a monster on your field, Ancient Gear Hunting Hound deals 600 damage straight to you! Alright Princess, Fire!" Crowler commanded his metallic pet to attack.
The beast made out of iron opened her maw wide to reveal a canon which blasted a fireball straight at Nathan.
"Incoming!" Whisper warned everyone as the group saw the projectile come at them like a meteor.
"Time to sacrifice yourself for the team Whisper!" Nathan quickly grabbed Whisper by the swirl of his head and stretch him to shield himself.
"hey! Hey! Hey! What's your problemAAAAAAH!" The Yo-Kai screamed as he saw the fireball coming at him, causing an impact once it touched his white soft body.
Nathan's LP: 5500 – 4900
"Phew! That was a close one. Thanks Whisper." Nathan thanked his ghost for letting himself be used as a meat shield and not be injured, but the Slippery Yo-Kai says otherwise.
"What's your problem Nate! If you're going to use me to shield yourself, you might as well told me so!" Whisper protested in anger as he released clouds of steam like an angry locomotive.
"But that's not all! I now activate Hunting Hound's second ability! If I control another Ancient Gear monster, I can Fusion Summon a Fusion monster from my Extra Deck using monsters from my field and hand, without the need of a Polymerization card!" Crowler shouted, which caught Nathan by surprise.
"Wait, what? A Fusion Summon without the use of Polymerization?" Exclaimed Adams since it was pretty rare seeing Fusion Summons that don't require a Fusion Spell in the Fusion Dimension ironically. "Well, this is gonna hurt a lot…"
"And you can bet it will be!" Velian affirmed as he prepared his materials to use. "Mechanical Hound that carries the spirit of the ancients, Toolbox that holds a million artifacts, meld your ancient iron together and be reborn as the machine demon god forged within the deepest pits of hell! Fusion Summon!" Crowler held his hands together as his Hunting Hound and Ancient Gear Box were sucked into a red and blue vortex behind the teacher's back. "Behold, the Machine of all Machines! Level 8, Ancient Gear Howitzer!" Crowler announced the arrival of his Fusion monster.
What Crowler summoned with the power of Fusion was a colossal, winged machine demon with each of its arms carrying 3 long cannons that also bear a set of metallic wings. The robotic fiend announced its arrival with a powerful and loud roar of brass.
(Ancient Gear Howitzer/Fusion/EARTH/Machine/LV: 8/ATK: 1000/DEF: 1800) (Battle Position: Defense)
"Man! Talk about a mean lean oiled machine!" Nate said with fright as both him, Jibanyan and Whisper could feel the dreadful robot stare at their souls with its red and soulless eyes.
"And that's not all! I now activate Ancient Gear Howitzer's effect, which inflicts 1000 damage straight down to your Life Points! Now fire your cannons, Ancient Gear Howitzer!" Velian Crowler commanded his demonic machine to fire its cannonballs.
The metallic menace from hell then fired an array of cannonballs from its cannons right straight at Nathan. And unfortunately, the kid had to shield himself with his arms as Whisper refused to cooperate any longer.
Nathan's LP: 4900 – 3900
"Cough… Cough… Yeah… Real Solid Vision…" Nathan grunted as the gray dust of the impact of the cannonballs disappeared from the air.
"Nyowsers! That weird old lady just depleted your Life Points too hard Nyan!" Jibanyan jumped to remark how fast Crowler was able to drain his opponent's Life Points without even attacking yet.
"Well, we can thank Walkappa for saving my ass, right Jibanyan?"
"And now, where was i? oh right! The part where I correct you straight! Battle!" velian Crowler announced his Battle Phase. "Ancient Gear Golem, do what you do best and smash that fitness freak into the ground!" Crowler commanded his Ace to attack Burly who was in defense position.
"Wait, but Burly is in Defense position! I won't receive any damage due to it!" Nathan remarked on why would his opponent attack the Oni fitness instructor if it was better off Attacking either USApyon or Walkappa.
"A good observation, but you need to put more attention! Ancient Gear Golem possesses the special ability to inflict piercing damage when he fights monsters in defense position!" Crowler smiled arrogantly as his dearest Golem began to rose his fist to use it against Sergeant Burly. "Go Ancient Gear Golem! Mechanized Melee!" Crowler exclaimed with excitement as his giant monster dropped his giant first towards the Oni Yo-Kai. The impact between the 2 monsters managed to reach Nate who shielded himself with his arms once again to not get himself hurt that much.
Nathan's LP: 4900 – 2900
"Man! Dr. Crowler wasn't kidding! He's going all out!" Alexis said in surprise on how personal the teacher of the Academia was taking this duel. Perhaps too personal?
"Ahahahaha! It seems that your monster wasn't fit for the job!" Crowler laughed at his own bad punchline, thinking that he got rid of Burly now.
"Ha! It's gonna take more than a giant fist to stop me, Maggot!" The voice of Burly clarified, which took the Ancient Gear duelist by surprise.
"Wait! Who said that?" Asked Crowler as he looked around, only to see for his surprise and frustration that the Oni was fine, bearing a clean smile to tick off the professor. "YOU! B-But how!? You're suppouse to be DEAD!"
"What it tarnation!? Dat' punch should have messed you up harder than an Idaho's potato mush plate!" USApyon was as surprise as Crowler on how his teammate beside him managed to be fine.
"Of course I'm fine and kicking ol' pal! All thanks to my effect that prevents me from being destroyed by battle once per turn!" Burly exclaimed to everyone that was present while flexing his manly biceps. "With a body like mine! I'm like an invincible fortress!"
"Tch! You got lucky mister, but soon your devil's luck will run out eventually." Crowler snarled at Nate seeing how persistent he was. "I'll set 2 face-down cards on my field and end my turn." The teacher concluded his turn by throwing down 2 face-down cards on his Spell and Trap zone, yet he couldn't hide his overconfidence due to his smile. "As soon as that ungrateful rat plays a monster, I'll hit him with my Bottomless Trap Hole I've set. And if he still continues to persist with that annoying smug face of his, I'll just use my Tribe-Infecting Epidemic Trap card to shove those rotten corpses of him back to the graves they came from and reduce his Life Points with my Golem and Howitzer! Ha! It's a foolproof plan!"
Nathan's 2nd Turn
"Uhh… Okay?" Nathan mubled watching how easy his opponent was losing his cool. "I think I'll just draw then…" He told Crowler as he drew his next card.
Nathan's Hand: 3
"Be careful Nate. Your opponent has 2 set cards ready to use against you. He could either use one of them as a bluff so he can activate the other one without any problems." Whisper approached his friend's ear and warned him to be careful about Crowler's 2 set cards. "And we better do something about those 2 Ancient Gear monsters of him, otherwise we'll be screwed!" Whisper lost himself in his butler explanation, ignoring the fact that Nate checked the effects and status of the field from his Duel Disc.
"And to make matters worse, seems that Ancient Gear Wyvern is immune to all effects, and it also possesses an effect when destroyed by battle. I don't know about you Whisper but pulling a solution for this will be pretty tricky." Nathan said with uncertainty. "Fortunately, I've just happen to have just the thing I need." Nate said once again now with confidence as he looked at one of the monsters in his hand. "Hey Jibanyan, get yourself ready." He told his feline friend to prepare himself as he was about to take center stage.
"Ha! I'm Nyalways prepared for anything Nyate!"
Nate nodded at his trusty cat before looking again to the duel. "Well, since my last turn I've been summoning nothing more than cute stuff, I think it's time to make an exception here." He assured that he was about to get himself serious in the most dramatic way possible. "Arise, Samurai Skull!" Nate called forth his next monster to his field.
Rather than being one of his mischievoius Yo-Kai friends, he summoned a creepy floating zombie head wearing a Samurai helmet who sticked out his long pointy tongue.
(Samurai Skull/DARK/Zombie/LV: 4/ATK: 1700/DEF: 0) (Battle Position: Attack)
"And now here comes Samurai Skull's special effect! When Normal Summoned, I can send any Zombie from my Deck to my Graveyard!" Nathan exclaimed as he pulled out one of his many Zombie monsters that could prove useful to him now, but soon he was interrupted by Crowler's arrogant laugh.
"Ahahaha! Don't think so Slacker! I activate my Trap card, Bottomless Trap Hole!" Crowler flipped over his card he was anticipating to use. "When you summon a monster with 1500 or more attack points, it is not only destroyed, but it is also banished!" Once he explained the effect of his revealed trap, a nightmarish hole opened underneath Samurai Skull which took the zombie by surprise. Suddendly, a set of ghostly hands grasped the ghoul's tongue and dragged him down to the hole.
"That fool…" Jaden grunted from the distance of his seat alongside the Professor, seeing how reckless his former teacher acted.
"Ha! You've wasted your Normal Summon, and now there's barely any chance for you to get rid of my monsters!" Crowler shouted with pride and overconfidence, but soon he would know that he got played by his opponent.
"You did exactly what I wanted you to do! And I thought you were the pro-duelist around here." Nathan talked back with a smirk on his face. "Samurai Skull's second effect activates!" Nate rose his hand into the sky, causing a spectral apparition of the aforementioned zombie to appear in Nathan's field. "Since you made Samurai Skull leave the field by one of your card effects, now I'm able to Special Summon any Level 4 or lower Zombie from my Deck to my field! Thanks a lot, pal." Once the Yo-Kai duelist finished explaining and thanking his undead horror, Samurai Skull opened his maw as wide as he could, creating a supernatural portal which released small ghosts. "And now, let me show you a Yo-Kai that haunts the crosswalks and whose charm you can't resist!" Nathan told everyone before giving Jibanyan the signal to appear. "Come on out my friend!" He shouted as a pink swirl that's seen whenever a Yo-Kai is summoned began to appear out of the zombie's mouth.
"SUMMONING CHARMING!" A disembodied voice exclaimed with vigor as the shadow of a cat was blasted out from the portal, making the ghost of Samurai Skull dissipate to make way to the one, and only…
"JIBANYAN!" The energetic kitten of the Charming Tribe exclaimed with spirit and optimism, making a stylish pose for the spectators to see.
(Jibanyan, The Charming Yo-Kai/DARK/Zombie/LV: 4/ATK: 1600/DEF: 0) (Battle Position: Attack)
"And since the effect of Samurai Skull wasn't negated, it still proceeds as usual!" Nathan clarified as he dumped the Zombie monster he wanted to place in his Graveyard.
"And that's not all! This lil' friend of mine gains an Attack boost thanks to me!" Burly reminded everyone in the crowd. "Alright Jibanyan, time to stretch those stumpy legs of yours! Yo' don't want to become my personal yoga ball with all those chocobars you eat! Come on! One, two, three, PO!"
"Wait WHAAA!" Jibanyan shrieked in panic as Burly's inspiritation powers have already began to take effect on him.
"Yeah, welcome to the club pal." USApyon told Jibanyan, seeing he was suffering a same fate as he did.
(Jibanyan, The Charming Yo-Kai/ATK: 1600 – 2100)
"And now here comes Jibanyan's effect!" When Nate declared his next move, Jibanyan began to do a silly dance which sprouted a dark and bizarre aura around the cat. "If I control 2 or more other Yo-Kai monsters with different names, I can target up to 2 set cards in your Spell and Trap zone and prevent you from using them this turn! And to add that sweet salt to the wound, you cannot activate anything in response!"
"Nyanyanyanyanya! Nyaight!" Jibanyan finished up his funny dance with a even funnier pose, causing all that dark energy on his body to be shot towards Crowler's set card, binding his Tribe-Infecting Epidemic with spiritual chains.
"GYAAA! MY PERFECT PLAN!" Crowler shouted in panic seeing how he was losing control over the flow of the duel.
"And I still have more trick on my sleeves, remember that Zombie monster I dumped earlier? Well, how about I summon it now!? I activate Mezuki's effect from my graveyard!" Nate activated the effect of his monster in the graveyard, summoning a giant door from hell with the zombie bipedal horse guarding its gates. "By banishing him, I can revive any of my zombie buddies from my graveyard!"
Mezuki began to pull a chain tied to one of the gate's doorknobs, slowly opening the bridge to the pits of hells and reveal the new recruit in Nathan's endless zombie army.
"Tremble before the red reaper of the night whose thirst for blood plants the seed of fear amongst the living mortals! Arise, Level 5! Vampire Grimson!" Nathan called forth one of his heavy hitters being an grey-skinned vampire lady wearing a demon skull mask and a crimson long hooded robe alongside a noblewoman's attire, all while bearing a sadistic smile to kill with her long and sharp demonic sytche she's holding.
(Vampire Grimson/DARK/Zombie/LV: 5/ATK: 2000/DEF: 1400) (Battle Position: Attack)
"Unbelievable! He has his side of the field full of monsters!" Alexis was surprised how easy and quick Nathan was able to fill his field with monsters. This stunt also made the crowd of the arena to cheer Nate for his amazing play.
"Tch… Why half the world's cheering that kid?" Yuri hissed on how all those dumb kids of the Academia were praising someone they barely know, yet he found it hard to contain his envy towards Nate. All that praise, all that love he's receiving by everyone… But who has time for dumb stuff like "Friendship" and "Bonds" anyway?
"Well my dear friend, it appears those inferior monkeys seem to be surprised that a new recruit of your school has managed to crowd his field with powerful monsters, more so having control over the duel…" The evil shade whispered through the purple-haired heavenly king of the Academia.
"Still, any competent duelist can pull a stunt like that, even I can do it with my eyes closed."
"Well you see Yuri, Zombie monsters are known to infest the field like an endless horde. But they're too dumb of a threat so any competent duelists like us can brush them away." The shadow began to explain to Yuri how Zombie monsters work. "But no matter how many times you kill theme, they always come back from the Graveyard to repeat the process. And seems that this brat somehow managed to turn the duel on his favor with those pathetic Yo-Kai critters of him." But soon after, the shadow got himself an idea once he remembered how persistent Zombies are in Duel monsters. "Hmm… Summoning monsters in crowd and have the ability to never die and always come back… I think I have an idea for our plan to become the strongest duelists in existence to become true."
"Oh! So what is it, by loyal friend?" Yuri got interested over his "friend's" malevolent idea.
"We'll execute it once that squirt's done with his initiation duel. The Professor will have a fat eye on the bearer of the Yo-Kai Watch, so why don't you ask him to duel him to analyze the kid closer?" The Shadow told Yuri, which he was in due to the sound of his evil snicker. Then, he felt a familiar precense passing nearby, a precense he UTTERLY despises. "And speaking of which…" The shadow watched as the spark of light flew through the arena to approach Nate.
"And now, I start the Battle Phase!" Nate shouted with enthusiasm. "Alright Jibanyan, throw that pile of scraps glued together back to the trash bin!" He commanded his Yo-Kai to attack Crowler's howitzer.
Jibanyan did stome stretches exercises and sharpened his paws to get ready before striking. "Ha! You don't scare me, nyan! Nyou're no different than a dumb truck, and I swore to claim my vengeance against those engines of the devil, Nyan!" Jibanyan's eyes fired with passion over his hatred over trucks and lunged himself against the colossal robot demon. "Now, taste my Paws of Fury!" Jibanyan roared at the Ancient Gear monster as he began to pummel it to the ground with his trademark array of consecutive punches with the speed of bullets.
Surprisingly, the titanic machine wasn't able to resist the Soultimate move of the small kitten which made it met its demise as it began to crumble down into mere useless scrap before being destroyed, which impact left a gray cloud amongst the area where the former machine was.
"Ha! You should put more attention on your duels! You activated Ancient Gear Howitzers' second effect! When destroyed by battle, I can replace its vacant spot with any Ancient Gear monster from my Deck, ignoring its summoning conditions!" Crowler told Nate with glee as he was now able to summon another powerful Ancient Gear monster from his deck. "And now, I'll summon a monster whose core shall shine for all of eternity! Come, Ancient Gear Reactor Dragon!" Crowler called forth his next Ancient Gear monster, now being a titanic machine dragon who had a core on its chest illuminating a bright flash of light.
(Ancient Gear Reactor Dragon/EARTH/Machine/LV: 9/ATK: 3000/DEF: 3000) (Battle Position: Attack)
"unfortunately for you, your giant toy won't be with you for long. Vampire Grimson, seal Reactor Dragon's demise!" Nate commanded his undead reaper to cleave off the mighty mechanical menace with wings for everyone's surprise.
"Have you lost your mind boy? Your smelly corpse is laughably weaker than my dragon!" Crowler pointed out as Reactor Dragon had the most Attack points compared to Grimson, but Nathan would like to differ.
"Did you really though I would just do something so reckless and stupid?" The boy responded with a confident smirk. "I activate the Quick Play Spell, Zombie Power Struggle!" He shouted before activating his hidden weapon. "I can target a Zombie monster on the field and make it either gain or lose 1000 Attack points! And if you already figure what happens next…" After explaining, the feme fatale began to be enveloped by a dark and unholy aura that made her twister grin wide even more with her newfound power boost.
(Vampire Grimson/ATK: 2000 – 3000)
"Wait, wont your Grimson and Dr. Crowler's Reactor Dragon be destroyed after battle?" Alexis gasped seeing how the noblewoman Shinigami and the robotic monster had an even power, which would result on their mutual destruction.
"Unfortunately, my zombie won't be dying today! I activate Vampire Grimson's Special Ability!" He claimed before letting out a slightly painful groan which made him fall to his knees, unleashing a reddish aura from his body that was transferred to the attacking vampire in the form of a shield. "Grrr… By giving up 1000 Life Points, Grimson prevents the destruction of any of my cards either be by battle of by an effect." He explained himself before getting back up
Nathan's LP: 2900 – 1900
"Vampire Grimson, send that pile of scrap to hell! Twilight Sytche Slash!" Nathan proceed with the attack as Vampire Grimsion disappear from the dragon's sight for his dismay. Not for long, the lady of the night appeared behind Reactor Dragon's back bearing a psychotic grin and look as she raised her weapon up.
SLASH!
With one single swing of her deadly weapon, Vampire Grimson ended Reactor Dragon's story as its only remnants were the scattered parts of its broken body that vanished from everyone's sight.
"Fortunately for you, it seems that I don't have anymore options to get over your Golem." Nathan shrugged his arms up before winking. "But Luckily for me, seems that one of your friends wants to help me to beat your sore ass."
"Explain yourself, young man!"
"Vampire Grimson's second effect activates!" Nathan shouted as the undead woman held a dark orb on her left hand. "At the end of the Battle Phase, Vampire Grimson can resurrect any monster she destroyed by battle to my side of the field!" He declare as his Vampiric monster raised her left arm to cast a dark thunderstorm over Nathan's field, which summoned Crowler's Ancient Gear Reactor Dragon's into the brunette boy's field. Only key difference is that the draconic machine had a significant amount of rust all over his body, with its core struggling to produce a single spark of energy. In short term, the Reactor Dragon looked, pretty lifeless…
(Ancient Gear Reactor Dragon/EARTH/Machine/LV: 9/ATK: 3000/DEF: 3000) (Battle Position: Defense)
"And before reaching the conclusion of my turn, I activate Zombie Power Struggle's effect from my graveyard!" He declared as he activated the effect of his Quick Play Spell he recently used. "By shuffling one of my banished zombies back to my deck, I can set this card back into my field, but its banished when it leaves it!" He shuffled back Mezuki into his deck before his Zombie power struggle was set back into his field. "And with that, I end my turn." Nate said to Crowler with an overabundance of confidence in his face. He just thought he already has this duel in the bag, but Whisper knew that his master's ego was about to bite him in the ass in the worst way possible. "Hey Whisper, why the long face?" he looked at his dear friend to wonder why he looked pretty concerned.
"A-are you really sure you've won Nate?" Whisper doubted his friend's assured victory. "You do realize that whenever you get too cocky, a lot of bad things happen to us right?"
"Like what?"
"Remember that time when you bought a lottery ticket at Everymart which made act like some sort of snobby rich boy, only for you to realize that the ticked was already expired?" Whisper redacted the last time Adams was so full of himself, he got the boot where it hurt him the most.
Crowler's 3rd turn
"Alrigth! That does it!" Crowler shouted in pure anger. "No more games from now on! So you think you're the hot stuff around town, huh? Well let me teach you how slackers are you are nothing more than a dime a dozen, after I kick your butt so hard, I'll sent you flying back to the town you came from! I draw!" The teacher shouted, now with no intentions of acting soft towards his opponents.
Crowler's hand: 3
"And with your red furball's effect now worn out, I can activate the card I was saving for you, good for nothing brat! The Trap card, Tribe-Infecting Epidemic!" Crowler revealed the card he set face-down that he wasn't able to use due to Jibanyan's effect. "I can declare 1 monster type, and then all monsters you control of that same type are destroyed! And the one I declare, shall be Zombie type!" Once Velian finished up explaining, a nasty dark mist was ejected from his trap card, enveloping all of Nathan's zombie-type monsters on it.
"Wha-wha-wha!? Yo gotta be kidding me!" USApyon freaked out before blowing up into bits.
"Well, gotta leave the rest to ya!" Burly told Nate before disappearing alongside Vampire Grimson who wasn't able to resist the zombie-killing pestilence Crowler casted upon Nate's field.
"Nyaaaah! I don't Wanya go!" Jibanyan flailed his tiny arms and legs in panic as the virus storm was overwhelming him until he couldn't resist it anymore. On what looked like a quick second, the red ghost cat vanished from the human teen and the white ghost's sight once the storm of sickness dissipated into the air.
"JIBANYAN!" Both Nate and Whisper gasped in panic as they witnessed the disappearance of their long and loyal friend.
"Nyyaouch!" Jibanyan hissed in imminent pain as he fell to the ground beside the brunette boy and impacted with the ground with his face, resulting his upper body being stuck in the ground like an ostrich hiding his head.
"Goodness gratious Jibanyan! You're okay!" Whisper quickly came to Jibanyan's aid of getting his huge head from the floor. "We almost though you were a goner!" Whisper cried as he janked off the cat Yo-Kai from his predicament with a loud pop.
"How should I know you oversized floating egg, nya? One second I though I was gonna die there, and the other one i was free-falling down the ground and bump my little head, nya!" Jibanyan tried to explain his experience to his 2 buddies the best he could. "And wait a meownute! Why didn't nyou use that Grimson's effect to save me Nyate?"
"There's 2 things I like to say about this Jibanyan." Nate stepped in to explain his reasons. "One, it could have been pretty risky to give up another batch of 1000 Life Points just to let your ass stay on the arena for who knows how much long. Two, if you falling from the heavens after being eaten by a deadly twister of plagues and still be okay proves something, is that it seems that whenever a Yo-Kai monster leaves the field, they returned to the place they were before being summoned here, I think." He mumbled, hoping that USApyon and Burly were okay.
"And next up, I'll summon the origin of the lost machine civilization! Come here, Ancient Gear Frame!" Crowler called forth the monster he added with Ancient Gear Box. The ground beneath the teacher's side of the field began to rumble until bursting, revealing another robot of yore who was as colossal as Ancient Gear Golem. The key difference is that Gearframe appear to be an endoskeleton version of the Legendary Construct of gears beside him.
(Ancient Gearframe/EARTH/Machine/LV: 4/ATK: 1600/DEF: 500) (Battle Position: Attack)
"And now I activate Ancient Gear Frame's effect! Once per turn, I can discard 1 card from my hand to add 1 spell or trap that lists my Ancient Gear Golem from my Deck to my hand. So I'll discard my Ancient Gear Soldier, in order to add this!" Crowler showed Nate what he put in his hand with a arrogant gleam. "And now, I'll activate said card! That being the Spell Card, Ancient Gear Fusion!" He slid the card on his duel vest to activate his fusion spell, causing a green and yellow swirly vortex to appear behind him. "With this Spell, I can Fusion Summon an Ancient Gear monster from my Extra Deck. But if I use an Ancient Gear Golem on my field as one of its materials, I can also use any monsters from my Deck as Fusion materials!"
"Using monsters from your Deck as Fusion materials!? Crap! Now I'm in freaking trouble!" Nate jumped out from his place out of terror after hearing how devastating his opponent's Spell was. He should really manage his ego more often, or he will be cursed with ironic justice for all of his Life.
"Legendary Mechanical Giant, assimilate your metal with the Automaton trooper of old and the Guardian Dog of the Ancient Machine Civilization and reach your ultimate form! Fusion Summon!" Crowler chanted the coming of his ace monster as he fused Ancient Gear Golem with an Ancient Gear Soldier and an Ancient Gear Beast from his Deck. "Now you mannerless slacker! Shiver in fear before the mechanized wrath of Level 10, Ultimate Ancient Gear Golem!" Velian cried to the heavens as a even more titanic centaur version of Ancient Gear Golem descended down the field with a potent stomp that can be referred as the ultimate definition of raw power.
(Ultimate Ancient Gear Golem/Fusion/EARTH/Machine/LV: 10/ATK: 4400/DEF: 3400) (Battle Position: Attack)
The arrival of Crowler's Signature Fusion Card flooded the crowd of fans with cheers and praises for the duelist with PhD. But Nate and his Yo-Kai friend were mostly busy standing still in fear due to the inmense power of the robot before them.
"Ohohohoho! What's the problem Mr. Adams? Too scared to duel?" Crowler cackled full on himself, seeing the expression of hopelessness plastered on the teenager's face. "Though I must say, aside your boorish attitude towards me, you left a good impression on me. You knew how to respond and disrupt my plays and keep the flow of the duel at your favor. Not many new students tend to surprise me, but you're not one of them." Crowler pushed his over-inflated ego aside to confess his admiration he had to him on this duel. "But I'm afraid that compliments from me won't spare you from the humiliation of your lifetime! Ultimate Ancient Gear Golem, attack that traitorous Reactor Dragon! And just like its former form, Ultimate Ancient Gear Golem can also inflict piercing damage to defense position monsters! Ultimate Mechanized Mayhem!" Crowler commanded his Fusion monster to destroy the lifeless metal dragon with a meteor fist, reducing the dragon into rust and transferring the impact of the punch to Nathan's Life Points.
The brunette duelist shielded himself with his arms from the strong wind gust the giant centaur caused, which caused him to drop to the floor in one knee. "Hufff… Huff… See why I didn't bother to save you Jibanyan?" He looked at his ghost cat and affirm his reason to not use Grimson's protection's effect.
Nathan's LP: 1900 – 500
"And with your field clear, Ancient Gear Frame can attack you directly and drop your Life Points to 0! Attack my Gear Frame, with Prototype Punch!" Crowler gave his final order to the prototype of his Ancient Gear Golem, making the endoskeleton raise his fist and direct it towards Nathan.
"N-no! I-It c-can't be! Y-you can't loose right here Nate! You gotta get up!" Whisper tried to pull his human friend up, but his wimpy noodle arms could barely lift Adam's head. Luckily, the holder of the Yo-Kai Watch stood up by himself.
"Don't count your eggs yet! Your Ancient Gear Frame may prevent spells and traps from activating when it attacks…" Nathan pointed out with some struggle as he saw the giant skeletal fist coming his way. "But the same cannot be said for monster effect! I activate Swift Scarecrow's special ability from my hand!" Nate revealed his life-saver being a robotic scarecrow with a turbine on its back. "When you declare a direct attack while I have this card in my hand, it not only negates the attack, but also ends the Battle Phase! Go Scarecrow! Protect me with Turbo Tower Block!" A transparent apparition of the scarecrow quickly appeared in front of the teenager's front and absorbed the fist of the giant Ancient Gear Golem causing him to blow up and make Ancient Gear Frame take steps back.
"Humph… Not bad I must say, not bad." Crowler congratulated his opponent for saving his ass from an embarrassing defeat. "But with only one card in your hand, its going to take a miracle to turn the tables! But only time can tell my dear friend. I'll end my turn. So go ahead, show me what you got!" Crowler yield the turn back to the freshman of the Academia.
"Jeez, I hate to admit it, but he's right…" Nate cursed in his own mind. "I only have 1 card in hand, and I've doubt that it can win me the duel alone." He looked at the only card on his hand, being also a Fusion Card featuring Jibanyan and Whisper being sucked up into the vortex of spirits and souls while the 2 cried for help. "So everything depends up to this draw, but… Will I really draw what I need? I mean, this isn't a t.v. show, so I don't think that I can really do this…" The Yo-Kai duelist began to doubt himself, so he closed his eyes to have inner peace and see if he could collect enough guts and moxxie to continue…
"Don't give up…"
"Huh? Who the hell said that?" Nate open his eyes to that he was transported into some sort of black void. There wasn't any sigh of neither human or Yo-Kai being present, which brought the kid a sense of dread.
"You can't throw up the towel now." The same voice Nate hear replied again. The disembodied voice in question sounded like it belonged to a female young woman by the tone and mannerisms. "Not when a great calamity is at bay that threatens to destroy both human and Yo-Kai World." The voice then revealed itself to Adams, being the ball of light that followed him from Mount Wildwood all the way to the Academia.
"Uhhh… Have we met before?" Nate asked with uncertainty. "Are you a Yo-Kai by any chance? If not, umm… sorry for misjudging you there, Mrs ehhh… B-ball of light?"
"I know you feel uneasy and confused right now. But I assure you, this talk between you and I is extremely important." The Spark confirmed to the young adult. "My deepest apologies for dragging you into this place, but I couldn't risk myself into talking with you in the physical world."
"By physical world, you mean that we're on some sort of mental world?" Nate Adams took a wild guess on where have he been transported.
"Your mind to be exact"
"R-really?" Nate raised an eyebrow as he looked around at the hollow void that supposedly was his inner world. "I was expecting my brain to be well, not this empty…" He mumbled a bit embarrazed.
"Don't worry, this is the Zen realm of your mind. Every sane person has a Zen realm in their mind where they can meditate and be in peace with themselves. The small spark explained as she floated around the teenager's head like a moon rotating over the earth.
"Okay then… Then I believe that we should introduce ourselves first before anything else." Nate proposed. "The name's Nathan Adams Amano, but feel free to just call me Nate." He said with a playful with to the spark. "So, what's yours?"
"To be frankly Nate, I-i… I don't know…" The spark said with a gloomy tone. "I can't even remember anything before turning into this, lingering will. Last thing I remember is that I was liberated from a black rock capsule before following you after you freed me."
"W-what? So you were the prize inside the Crank-a-Kai!" Nathan gasped over the realization that he wasn't scammed out of Whisper's money. "But like seriously! The trope of the mystery man with amnesia is so last year! S-sorry for sounding a bit crass there…"
"I-it's fine… I don't really mind." The spark of light replied kindly. "T-the point is that I need your help. I've heard that you posses extraordinary abilities outside dueling, that you're friends with those spirits your kin refer as Yo-Kai, correct?"
Nate just nodded his head to confirm the spark's questions.
"I see… then you really are one of the people needed to stop, 'him'…"
"By him, who are you talking about?" Nate owled in wonder while he tilted his head towards his left shoulder.
"Zarc…" The ball of light said with fright and dread leaking on her voice. "I don't remember who had that name, but in my mind, I've learned that once the 4 dragons roar in resonance, the gates of Ragnarok will open and the bells of the Armageddon shall ring, announcing the end of the world…"
Nate was left in silence. He, didn't know what to say in respect. Sure, he has saved the world a multitude of times with his Yo-Kai friends, but somehow talking to a floating ping-pong ball about the end of the world makes it sound weird. "I see… So, what's my role then?"
"Right now, you have to win this duel. Something tells me that the Academia has something to do with the resurrection of the demon named Zarc." The ball clarified. "And also, I've want to ask you one last thing…"
"Yeah?"
"Will you be the guardian of the key that holds the Supreme King Dragon's resurrection at bay?" The ball asked Nate. "Bare in mind, I hold a card that contains the power of the Demon Duelist, and I was hoping a noble soul of the light-side would be able to use this power to right the wrongs of this world and protect said power from the clutches of the servants of the Demon Duelist. Do you accept?" Before Nathan's eyes, another bright flash of light manifested in front of him, forcing him to shield his eyes with his arms to not go blindfolded.
"A, Duel Monster card?" Nate took a better glance at the power the ball of light was offering him. It was a single card of Duel monsters, a card he has never seen before in his life.
"This card, is the half of one of the Supreme King Dragon's fragments." The Spark told him "This may be the card you need to turn this duel around, and I need someone to safeguard this power from falling into the wrong hands. Do you think you can be responsible of carrying this power…?"
Nate though it for some minutes before ccomming to a conclusion. "Well, you know that it's never nice to accept things from strangers. But seeing that I'm a bit desperate right now, and looking that this is very important…" Nate came to a clear conclusion. "I'm all in!"
Once he reached his hand to grasp the card before him, the dark and empty void began to be enveloped in a gigantic flash of light, making the teen to snap back Into reality.
The Colisseum was still in silence, with no sound to be heard as they all watched Nate closely when he finally makes a move.
"Hey! This is no time to take a nap now." Alexis called for Nate in hopes he could wake up from his sudden trance. "Remember if you don't do a move, you'll be disqualified."
"I…" Nate rose his voice as he got up from the floor and hold the top card of his duel disc…
Nathan's 3rd turn
"I DRAW!" He shouted with all of his spirits to the heavens above as he drew the top card of his Deck, and for his surprise, he didn't really drew what he wanted, but essentially what he needed.
Nate's hand: 2
"Graceful Charity?" Nate was surprised to draw one of his more strong spells in his top deck. "What do you think Whisper?" He looked at his paranormal butler to ask his opinion.
"Well, it will all come to pretty much luck at this point." The white oval Yo-Kai shrugged his arms while shaking his head. "But at this point, we have nothing to lose! So go on, and show them what you're made off Nate!"
"Right!" Nathan nodded with confidence before looking right back at the duel. "Now, I activate the Spell card, Graceful Charity!" He declared in front of everyone as he activated his next spell. "First, this Spell lets me draw 3 cards from the top of my deck!" He drew the 3 cards that were sitting on top of his pile of cards and see what he got, and good Ra! He hit Jackpot! "Wait a minute! This is the same card I saw in my mind!" He contemplated the card that was the same one he grabbed when he spoke with that mysterious spark of light.
Whisper floated nearby to see what did Nate got from Graceful Charity, and was surprised by the selection of cards his master managed to pull out. "Holy honkers! Isn't that…"
"Yeah, yeah… No need to point out the obvious Whisper!" Nathan hissed at his ghostly butler as he had all the right to be surprised what he also drew with his miracle draw. "But, maybe I just have an idea to win this duel." He looked at his card, and he just crafted his solution in his mind. "And now after that, I must discard 2 cards from my hand to my graveyard." He continued his turn by sending a zombie monster and Mezuki once again to his cementery.
"So? What is your response Nathan Adams?" Crowler asked Nate if he had something to counter his almighty Ultimate Ancient Gear Golem.
"How about something you're familiar with?" He replied with pure optimism, as he was ready to execute his miracle combo. "I activate Mezuki's effect from my Graveyard once again!" He declared as the same doors of hell manifested into his field alongside the hellish horse man. "I won't make my explanation longer as y'all are aware of Mezuki's effect at this point! Now Mezuki, open the gates of the abysmal inferno and unbound my next horror!" Nate commanded his Zombie to start.
The Yokai Horse pulled the chains to open the gigantic hellish door once given the command. And from the fiery pits of purgatory, another Zombie has arisen to help Nate on his duel, and It's one he shares a deep bond with.
"And now, I Special Summon the supernatural guide to the whimsical and scary world of the Yo-Kai! I now Summon Whisper, The Slippery Yo-Kai!" Nathan called forth his trusty Yo-Kai butler to the field to take action.
"Whisper, certificated Yo-Kai butler at your service!" Whisper did a bow before following with a salute and a big wide smile as he took center stage into the field.
(Whisper, The Slippery Yo-Kai/DARK/Zombie/LV: 4/ATK: 1700/DEF: 100) (Battle Position: Attack)
"And now, Whisper's special ability activates when he's summoned!" Nathan declared out loud. "Whisper is known as the definitive guide when it comes to the world of Yo-Kai, which lets me add any of my Yo-Kai friends from my Deck to my hand!" He finished by adding Blazion of the Brave Tribe to his hand. "And this doesn't stop there! I discard Blazion, The Brave Yo-Kai from my hand in order to activate my Crank-A-Kai once again!" He followed his combo by sending the card he just added to the graveyard, causing another coin with the face of Blazion to be inserted inside the mysterious capsule machine to crank it our and puke out another rock capsule. "What shall it be, a Zombie to flip the tables, or perhaps a dood?" Nathan said to the crowds in the most dramatic possible before drawing his next card at the same time the capsule opened himself. Once the purplish mist dissipated from the air, it shown that there was nothing but a wooden sign with a big red cross pained on it.
"Ha! Now that's what I called a waste of money!" Crowler grinned in delight while the empty capsule disappeared with a spectral poof cloud.
"Even if drawing another Zombie would have been nice, I assure you that it wasn't part of my plant, Dr. Crowler." Nate assured his adversary that he didn't intended to summon a monster with Crank-A-Kai while discarding the card he drew into the graveyard, that being the Quick-Play Spell Twin Twisters. "By the way, I still haven't show you one of my Fusion monsters and I'm sure some of you are eager to see what kind of undead horror I have guarded in my Extra Deck. Fortunately for all of you of you, the time of waiting is over! I activate the Spell Card, Yo-Kai Fusion!" He then showed his own Fusion card to the blonde adult and the specators for them to see, conjuring a spectral swirl of ghosts behind him. "With this, I can Fusion Summon a Yo-Kai Fusion monster from my Extra Deck, by banishing its materials from my field and Graveyard! And I just have the monsters ready to call forth my Ace monster!" Nathan rose his arm into the air to commence his fusion ceremony.
"Hey Whisper, is it me, or are my feet nyot feeling the floor?" Jibanyan asked his bitter partner since he took a nap after being kicked out from the Duel Monsters field, so he wasn't able to see what was happening to him.
"It's not the floor Jibanyan! Seems that Newton's laws of gravity are having something against us!" Whisper panicked as he and the cat Yo-Kai were beginning to float like balloons for their dismay.
"Nya?" The kitten opened his eyes, only to then cried in terror. "And I don't think the bad things end up here, Nyan!" Jibanyan gulped as he and the Yo-Kai of the Slippery Tribe began to be sucked into the Polymerization vortex behind Nate.
"GYAAAH! DO I LOOK LIKE A FRUIT TO YOU NATE!? I'M NOT SOMETHING TO PUT INTO A BLENDER!" Whisper flailed his arms as he and Jibanyan cried tears of fright and anxiety while being absorbed into the vortex like a giant toilet.
"Think of something cool, think of something cool… Aha!" Nate muttered for a moment finally crafting a summoning chant. "Ehem… Ghost that knows it all, unite with the Nekomata of the Haunted crossroad to open the gates of hell, and be reborn into a hero of love and justice that surpasses the likes of the Blue-Eyes White Dragon! Fusion Summon" Adams put his hands together to look cool, which made the fusion swirl behind hiM liberate a giant poof smoke that puked out a small creature that was doing a series of flips before landing on his paws. "You'll never seen a Fusion monster as powerful as this one! Come on out, Level 7…"
"Buchinyan, The Charming Yo-Kai! Nya-Whissu!" The fusion between Jibanyan and Whisper stepped in to salute everyone with all of his inner enthusiasm, using a voice that combine the ones of the cat and the ghost.
(Buchinyan, The Charming Yo-Kai/Fusion/DARK/Zombie/LV: 7/ATK: 2500/DEF: 0) (Battle Position: Attack)
The stadium was in silence over the invocation of the Yo-Kai. They weren't expecting that a fusion this flashy could result in the summoning of a monster that's very, small…
The crowd's response was a ocean of laughs over the small stature of Buchinyan coming from the Obelisk students and some teachers, all in the exception of the Professor, his right hand and some few Obelisk members.
"Are you out of your mind Nate!? Why did you fuse us into Buchinyan again? and now everyone is pointing fingers at us!" Whisper's voice protested against the Charming Yo-Kai from the inside of the white cat with red dots, causing said monster to wave his head back and forth. "This was all your fault Jibanyan!"
"My fault! Nyou're the one who squished nyour ass with mine, and nyow we're stuck like this Nya! I just freaking hate to fuse with you Whisper!" Jibanyan's voice was the next to talk, signifying that despite the fusion between the 2 can result in a powerful Yo-Kai, it all goes to the drain once the 2 argue on who has to have the main control.
"Dahahaha! All that effort just to summon a stuffed animal? If you came all this way to the academia to show us your collection of cereals mascots, then you walked into the wrong place!" Crowler expressed his distaste over the appearance of Buchinyan, but the kitten didn't mind on the outside. However on the inside…
"SAY THAT AGAIN TO MY FACE, NYOU OLD HAG! I SWEAR WHEN NYATE POUNDS YOU THE GROUND, I'M GONNA COME OVER YOU AND TEAR WIDE OPEN NYOUR-"
"Not now Jibanyan! Not in front of the kids!" Whisper quickly shut the cat's mout before he could explode into a feline fury. Fortunately, no one was able to hear the duo's inner thoughts when they were fused.
Meanwhile outside, Nate just jiggled at his opponent's comment over his ace card. "Hey, don't judge a book by its cover." He waved his finger left and right to tease Crowler off. "And besides, you know the old saying. The bigger they are, the more painful their fall is!" Nathan immediately proceed to start his Battle Phase with all the puzzle pieces all set. "Alright Buchinyan, go and strike Ancient Gear Frame!" Nate ordered his fusion to pounce on the giant endoskeleton, but the cat was too busy arguing with himself to hear what his friend has to say.
"Get out of here Jibanyan! I'll handle this! You're only going to get us turned into waffles!" Whisper pushed Jibanyan so he could control Buchinyan's actions, but the red cat quickly punched Whisper in his subconscious face in response.
"As if I'll let nya! You're not gonnya touch my body! Let someone who has better expurrience like me take this!" Jibanyan purred aggressively, insisting that he should be the one to control the moves of the fusion.
"Say one more of those horrendous cat puns of yours to my face, and I'll rip your ears out of your stupidly big head!" Whisper was about to fight with Jibanyan once again, but soon he felt a presence of dread that made the 2 bicker with one another.
The Fusion between the 2 turned his head around in fear, only to see their friend Nate narrow at them with a angered mood. "Gya! N-Nyate! I-I can explain!" The combined voice of Whisper and Jibanyan babbled in sweat and see if they were able to calm the nerves of their human pal.
"Tell me once you 2…" Nate growled in pure anger before picking up Buchinyan directly from his squishy back. "ARE DONE ATTACKING THAT JUNK OF METAL!" Nathan bellowed while hurling Buchinyan right at Ancient Gear Frame like a baseball.
"NYAAAAAH! WE'RE SORRY!" The merged beast lamented in a burst of tears as he meowed with a high-pitched scream of panic before making impact with the giant robot of crowler. "NYEOWCH!" Buchinyan said in pain once his soft head hit the metal of the colossal Ancient Gear Frame, causing it to produce the sound reminiscent of a bell ring before the construct fell apart.
"Great heavens! This is gonna hurt!" Crowler bulged his eyes in terror before blocking himself with his arms from the shower of scrap and gears. "Phew… I though I was a Gon-AAAH!" The head teacher of the Obelisk dorm then got hit in the head by the falling Buchinyan like a cartoon character.
Crowler's LP: 3600 – 2900
"And now, when Buchinyan successfully defeats a monster by battle, his effect activates!" Once Nate announced that his fusion triggered his effects, Buchinyan immediately arose from the ground in an instant like new, having his body covered on a reddish and powerful aura around them like the typical anime character powering up. "Which ramps up his Attack points by 500 until the end of this turn!" Once he finished, Buchinyan roared out, bursting out with a massive burst of energy.
(Buchinyan, The Charming Yo-kai/ATK: 2500 – 3000)
"So what gives? All duelists know that a monster can only attack once per turn. Which only makes your furball's power absolutely useless." Crowler pointed out to his opponent, still not being aware of Buchinyan's other special abilities.
"If that's the case, then why would he had that effect in the first place?" Nate pointed out. "That's why Buchinyan holds an effect that grants him the ability to attack each monster you control once each!"
Upwards, The Supreme King Judai and his master, The Professor were intrigued by the power Buchinyan had, despite being so tiny in size. "So that's the power one of those Yo-Kai that kid can make, and he also seem to possess powerful Fusion Spells in his arsenal…" The thought to himself in intrigue.
"Eeeh… B-But your monster still doesn't compare to the attack of my Ultimate Ancient Gear Golem! So I'm afraid your cat's about to take a nap for now." Crowler stammered, trying to look confident but failing to do so due to how he was losing control of the duel.
"You said it yourself. All good duelists have a plan B!" He reminded the man in blue that he has already solved. "Remembered when I told you back when I used the Crank-A-Kai that summoning a monster wasn't the main point? I now activate Blazion's Quick Effect from my graveyard!" Adams shouted as the spirit of the lion spected appeared behind Buchinyan. "During either of our turns, I can banish this monster to grant a Zombie monster I control 600 Attack points! Plus, if the monster in question is a Yo-Kai, it also gains immunity over battle destruction!"
"ROAR ROAAAR!" Blazion let out a powerful roar that expelled a red spirit towards Buchinyan, pumping the ghost cat to an extreme state of adrenaline before the lion disappeared.
"AAAAAW YEAH! NYOW YOU'RE ABOUT TO FEEL WHAT TRUE POWER IS SOON ENOUGH!" Buchinyan exclaimed in enthusiasm as he was experiencing some sort of overdrive state once Blazion inspirited him with his Yo-Kai powers, making his spirit light up with a burning passion.
(Buchinyan, The Charming Yo-Kai/ATK: 3000 – 3600)
"And now for the final touch! I activate Zombie Power Struggle once again to boost Buchinyan even further beyond!" Nate bellowed while revealing the Quick Play Spell he set thanks to its Graveyard effect, injecting the fusion with a dark power that skyrocketed his streght.
(Buchinyan, The Charming Yo-Kai/ATK: 3600 - 4600)
"I can't believe it! He overpowered Dr. Crowler's Ancient Gear Golem just like that!" Alexis was left surprised how easy the new student managed to power up his most powerful card to an absurd degree.
"Buchninya, show that giant junkyard all of your might!" Nate gave his Yo-Kai fusion green light to attack Ultimate Ancient Gear Golem and throw his remains to the nearest chopshop.
"Nyalright! Time for me to shine, wissu!" Buchinyan exclaimed with joy before boosting himself against the Golem with a lightspeed hop powerful enough that IT left a gigantic gust behind him, making all those who underestimated his power to eat their words. "Hey you big Toaster!" The cat called forth the attention of the Golem while his paws began to glow with that same reddish energy he had. "TASTE THE POWER OF MY FLURRY OF FURY! NYANYANYANYANYANYANYANYA!" Buchinyan shouted before unleashing a gigantic storm of million punches with an incredible speed and power as he consecutively was leaving bumps and marks over the Golem's metal. "And here comes the final blow! HIYA!" Buchinyan punched the giant construct one last time with one concentrated fist, it made Crowler's monster literally lose his head before being destroyed with a giant explosion."
Crowler screamed in terror as he saw the Golem's decapitated head falling before him, but he luckily saved his ass by getting out of the impact area on time.
Crowler's LP: 2900 – 2800
"By destroying another monster, Buchinyan gains another boost of 500 Attack points!" Nate declared before Buchinyan got another overload of adrenaline after landing back on the floor.
(Buchinyan, The Charming Yo-Kai/ATK: 4600 – 5100)
"5100 Attack points! Not a single student of ours has been able to boost one of their monsters like that!" Jaden lost his breath by how powerful that small cat has gotten so quickly.
"Not so fast!" Crowler interrupted. "When Ultimate Ancient Gear Golem is destroyed, it lets me revive Ancient Gear Golem from my graveyard. So now I'll think I put this guy in defense position!" He then summoned back the giant robot, now taking a more defensive posture.
(Ancient Gear Golem/EARTH/Machine/LV: 8/ATK: 3000/DEF: 3000) (Battle Position: Defense)
"And even if you were to attack my Golem with that monster of yours, it will be just for naugh as its attack will just go back to normal!" Crowler smirked before looking at his last card. "Then, once my turn begins, you'll be sorry for insulting me once I show you what true power is! Ohohoho! Sometimes I'm so devilish, I scare myself." He said in his mind as he looked down at his only card in hand, being Overload Fusion that he will use to summon, 'The Big One'.
"You're right. But if were you, summoning back your Ancient Gear Golem was a big fat mistake of your part." Nathan replied, which caught his opponent off-guard. "Besides, I still haven't used my Normal Summon yet, so now I'll begin with my Main Phase 2!" He declared as he looked closely at his last card in hand. "If all goes right, I may have won this." He hopped that the card he acquired would be all that it takes for him to win. "Now, all that is left is to think of a cool chant to summon this card." He closed his eyes in order to think about a badass summoning chant for his last monster. But suddenly, he began to hear dragon roars in his mind, and the strangest part, he was able to understand said roars, as if they were telling him what he should say when he summons his winning card. "I see!" He snapped back to the real world, now fully determinate to end this duel. "First off, this monster can be Tribute Summoned from my hand by just using a level 5 or higher monster as one of its materials. So it'll be a goodbye for Buchinyan." He told everyone as he removed his fusion from the field to make way for the monster he's about to invoke.
"Bye bye everyone! It was great to see you, nyan!" Buchinyan said goodbye by waving his little paw before vanishing by a pillar of light.
The skies above the Academia began to darken as thunders began to erupt, announcing the arrival of Nate's next monster.
"Professor! This is urgent!" A hologram of one of the Academia's researchers popped in front of the Leo Akaba without previous warning.
"Is there something urgent?"
"We're capting the energy of one of them! We think that kid has one of the 4 Dimensional Dragons in his hand!" The scientist exclaimed in worry, which attracted both Leo and Jaden's attention in the worst way possible.
"I-it can't be! That kid down there doesn't even have the same face as the Supreme King Dragon's counterparts!" The Supreme King of the Academia wasn't sure that Nate had some other power outside the Yo-kai Watch that was important for their mission.
"I wouldn't be so sure." Yubel appeared besides him to correct him. "I can already feel a dark power coming from that kid. Just watch." The fiendness pointed up in the sky, only for the soldier in black to be left frozen by thee shadow of a dragon descending from the heavens above them.
"Dark Dragon King with dichromatic eyes! With this traditional sacrifice and this noble prayer, protect those in need with your royal wings and incinerate all evil with your eternal flames" Nathan held his hand in the sky, pointing at the draconic figure above him. Once the monster revealed himself, everyone could witness a majestic, yet fierce red dragon with a pair of red and green eyes.
"I-impossible!" The Professor stood up in his seat at the sight of the dragon. Something in him awaken an emotion inside of him. An emotion of pure hatred and fear…
Though, Leo wasn't the only one acting negatively towards Nathan's dragon. One of Yuri's dragons began to roar uncontrivable as it felt some sort of energy that made it roar in fear and hatred.
"My Starving Venom?" Yuri looked closely at his fusion monster for a moment before taking a better look at the dragon in the arena. "Strange… If my dragon's acting all nuts over that brat's monster over there… N-no… This must be some sort of weird dream … If he was another one of those, pieces, I would have know that already…"
"Descend, Primordial Ruler of all dragons! Level 8, Odd-Eyes Advanced Dragon!" Nate called forth the name of his new monster, causing it to unleash a majestic and powerful roar all across the stadium to impose his authority as the king of dragons.
(Odd-Eyes Advanced Dragon/DARK/Dragon/LV: 8/ATK: 3000/DEF: 2500) (Battle Position: Attack)
And in pure coincidence, Jibanyan and Whisper landed back into their friend's side now unfused from one another, but with all of their steam worn out to do anything than to stay stiff on the ground to recover their energy.
"Nyagh… Let's nyot talk about this ever again Whisper…" Jibanyan purred at Whisper as he sobbed his head and see if he can light off the bad migranne and the blurry sight he was experiencing after fusing himself with him.
"Agree…" Whisper was on the same page as Jibanyan's. Once the Yo-Kai butler tried his best to get up, he quickly noticed the majestic monster that took over the skies. "GREAT LEGACY OF ENMA! WHAT IN THE NAME OF THE INFINITE INFERNO IS THAT!?" Whisper almost got a heart attack by the scare he got from looking at the terrifying beast Nate possessed. "Since when did you got that dragon in your Deck Nate?" Whisper turned his head to his human pal and ask him how he obtained that card he has never seen before.
"Ehh… It's a long story that I'd rather tell later Whisper." Nathan looked at his paranormal pal to tell him the details once he finished up this duel. "Ahem! Now that Odd-Eyes Advanced Dragon has been successfully Tribute Summoned, his effect activates!" He stretched his arm as his crimson drake was beginning to accumulate an electric energy inside his mouth. "I can target 1 monster you control and destroy it!"
"And so what? All that effort just to get rid of a single monster?" Crowler teased off his opponent's monster effect, completely unaware on what happens next.
"Then, it deals damage to your Life Points equal to the destroyed monster's attack!" Nathan finished up his explanation, making the blonde teacher eat his words and regret summoning back his Ancient Gear Golem. "Now Odd-Eyes Advanced Dragon! Make this duel come to a conclusion with your primordial power breath! Calamity Force!" Nathan exclaimed with all of his soul, causing his dragon to launch a devastating thunder-breath from his mouth against the Ancient Gear Golem that completely decimated him, causing all of its parts to fall down one by one.
"Aaaaahh!" Crowler cried in panic as he was constantly dodging the falling body-pieces of his ace monster from squashing him like a stamp. "Phew… I though I was a goner there." He said in sweet relief as he believed he managed to avoid all the metal that was raining over him. "Ouch! My head!" He whined as a small screw hit over his head to deal the final blow.
Dr Crowler's LP: 2800 – 0
Nathan Wins!
The whole crowds of the colisseum bursted in cheers of celebrations over the outstanding victory. Nate saw in awe alongside his Yo-Kai the constant praises he was being gited with, so he waved back to all the adoring fans in response while the Hologram of Odd-Eyes Advance Dragon roared to say goodbye.
Everyone was on a good mood, all aside from the Professor. He was feeling an uneasy emotion after witnessing the appearance of that dastadly dragon of the Supreme King Dragon, and he won't rest until knowing why does Nate holds such a card without being tied in to Zarc, and destroy that dragon for once. "Jaden…" Leo Akaba got up from his seat and called forth his loyal servant. He waved his cape as he left the opera box, signaling that he wanted the Supreme King of the Academia to come along. "Contact the Doktor immediately. I've wish to talk about Nate Adams' peculiar abilities, and be sure that our cameras have recorced the entiery of the duel. I have to find out why does he have an Odd-Eyes card…"
All the Supreme King did was salute and nod at the Professor as he followed him to the secret laboratory of one of Leo's most entrusted henchmen, the Doktor.
Some of the Slifer Red students came into the arena to lift Nate and throw him into the air as a sign of celebration. No new student has demonstrated so much resolve and skill, much less to a veteran dueling professor as Crowler.
"You did it Nate! You left a good impression with everyone in the Academia, and you didn't make yourself look like a total fool!" Whisper congratulated Nate for his amazing victory and his rising popularity as he was being constantly lifted in the air by the Slifers and the Ras, and also some Obelisks that were left surprised.
"Well for starters, both you and Jibanyan's jabbering were almost about to make me the clown of the school Whisper. But I'll let this pass through. Let's celebrate!" Nate exclaimed as he continued to enjoy his victory alongside his new group of admirers.
Meanwhile with Yuri, the purple-haired honor student gritted his jaw in frustration seeing how most of the Academia's soldiers were treating that weird kid and that mysterious dragon like if he was the second coming of the Winged Dragon of Ra. But soon after, he would receive a call from the Professor via a communicator in his ear. He wished to see him at the Doktor's underground lab and discuss about the suddent appearance of the Odd-Eyes Dragon and why it was on Nathan's posession.
"Well, it looks like the Professor wants a talk about this cheap counterfeit of my missing dragon." The sinister shade appeared behind Yuri to talk to him. "Might as well discuss this, unexpected turn of events…"
"Can't argue with that." Yuri looked at his "friend" by shrugging his arms. "Who better ask these thing than Leo Akaba himself? If he's as intrigued by that kid's dragon as us, he must know something we could know." He chuckled with a demonic tone right before exiting the colisseum to inform himself to his superior.
All was going well for the victory party, until Crowler approached the brunette-hair while dusting off his outfit from all the dirt and debris that fell on him. "Mr. Adams!?" He called forth his current opponent, causing his crowd of adoring fans to stop lifting the kid up in the air before walking back to their seats.
"Ouch! What a way to ruin the mood…" Nathan grunted after falling on his back, so rubbed his backside to ease off the pain . "Let me guess, I've done something stupid, meaning that I've somehow failed or so?"
"To the contrary, young man." Crowler corrected the teen as he took a deep breath to ease off his nerves. "Despite your lack of morals and unorthodox demeanor, a few slackers like you have been able to surprise me. No matter how grim the situation got, you always managed to stay firm and collected, and always managed to find a way to turn the duel at your favor. Not only that, but you did well at analyzing your opponent's strategies and think ingenious ways to use your opponent's strategies against them."
Nate was left a bit confused. He was pretty surprise to receive praise from Velian so formally, despite looking like he could explode at any moment? "So… are you not mad anymore?" The kid owled at the adult in wonder.
"Ohohoho! Of course not!" The blonde teacher giggled in joy, not long after wrapping his arm over Nate's neck, suddenly shifting his expression to one of pure fury. "Listen here you slacker. Just because you proved yourself to not be as a bad of a duelist as I thought you'll be, doesn't mean that we're friends. One more tease to me, and you'll regret to-"
"Alright Crowler, I think that's enough!" Alexis quickly grabbed the Obelisk's head-professor by the collar to drag him out of the arena before he could do the ridicule again. "There are other students and teachers that still have their duels underway, so I won't let you delay their schedules to curse on a new student."
"Ahh! Ahh!" Crowler was freaking out before calming down. "Yes Mrs. Alexis…"
"H-hey! What about me?" Nate raised his hand, making Rhodes to turn her head at the Yo-Kai Duelist.
She walked over where Adams was, holding a welcoming smile. "As Dr. Crowler said, you proven to be a very skilled duelist, despite having some odd-looking cards." The Young Adult then pulled out something to give to Nate. It was a Duel Disc in the shape of a shield with a red, white and blue pattern. "This is the Academia's Official Duel Disk. Not only does it contain all the recent perks and utilities like most of Kaiba Corp's recent Duel Disc models, but it also reflects your official status as a student of the Academia." She explained to Nathan as he looked at his new model. Sure, the one that Hiddabat gave him was a good one, but he had to admit that this one look cooler. "Welp, hope you come far." She said goodbye to Nate before leaving the Arena, carrying Crowler like a neglecting dog for Nate to have his moment of glory.
With this, Nathan held his new Duel Disc up with overwhelming pride, causing the spectators to cheer for him and chant his name in celebration for his new title.
"Man… Today was a pretty good day." Adams smiled on his own mind as he looked around to enjoy his parade of recognition. Though, he looked around with an uneasy feeling, wondering where did that ball of light whp gave him Odd-Eyes Advance Dragon was now. "Still, seems that my new life here at the Academia came alongside a new batch of mysteries. Just, who really is that ball of light, and why does the dragon she gave to me is calling me to save the world?"
Not that far from Nathan, a group of 2 cloaked figures witnessed the entirety of the duel from a top area not even the Professor would noticed them. One was a tall man with a muscular build that had a clear blue hair, while the other was a girl the same age as Nate who had a dark blue hair tied like a ponytail by a yellow ribbon.
"Lady Serena, it's getting late." The tall person called forth the shorter one, whose name was known as Serena. "We should head back to your chamber before the Academia's personnel discovers your absence. As your guardian, you know that its my duty to prioritize your well-being."
The female figure sighted at the tall one, knowing that she no longer has business to do here. "Alright Barret. Maybe I should call it a day." Serena turned to see his guardian known as Barret. "Still, that kid down there… something tells me that he's tied to my destiny, and my bracelet by some reason…"
"What makes you say that?"
Serena turned to draw her attention back to Nate, as she also had some questions the brunette-kid wishes to answer. "Well, all through this duel, that "Nate" kid seems to also share the same ability to speak with Duel Spirits like me." She explained as she was referring to her ability to not only see Duel Spirits, but also see Yo-Kai as well without the need of a Yo-Kai Watch. "Then, there's his dragon. I've felt some sort dark energy coming from that monster of his, yet I didn't felt any malice inside of him…"
(The Doktor's Lab/Academia's Underground System/Fusion Dimension)
Deep underground the Academia's classrooms and walls laid a vast complex of underground facilities that only the people who were the most closed to the Professor were aware off. If the Academia overground was the training facility of his soldiers and his personal throne room, the underground of the Academia also known as Lost Eden is where his true inhumane machinations get into motion.
Despite the vast dungeons and labyrinthic halls, the most important room of Lost Eden was the Doktor's Lab. A giant Laboratory that took quarter the space of Lost Eden, where his most important scientist makes all sorts of dark and twisted experiments to aid Leo Akaba's goal.
Inside the metallic walls of this research facility of horror, it resided all sorts of test tubes all across the lab, with all sorts of grotesque horrors dwelling inside of them, all of them carrying the faces of starving psychopaths. Most notably, a horde of tiny purple insects crawling all over the tubes.
"My dear children… you all look fantastic. You all make father proud." A creepy slender man with long white hair said to his genetically enhanced parasites with a unsettling tone. "It won't be long until you become the best weapon the Academia has to offer! And soon, my vengeance shall be completed!"
"Doktor?" The voice of Jaden echoed through the hallways of the dark laboratory, causing the only man present there to turn his head in intrigue, revealing himself to be the shady Doktor.
"Does the Professor want to talk about Nate Adam's unexpected, discovery. Uhehuehuehue!" The Doktor laughed in a psychotic way, stripping away the world of the general's mouth. Unaware to some of the teachers and the soldiers below the Obelisk Force rank, the Doktor has plagued the entire Academia with hidden cameras to stalk over every single inch of the Fusion Stronghold without the necessity to leave his comfy cave.
"Yes…" Yuki only nodded before letting Leo Akaba pass before entering himself. Even someone as cold-hearted as him has goosebumps by just visiting the Doktor. Something about this, 'man' unsettled him. He sometimes wonders if the Doktor is even a human to begin with. The only person from Leo Akaba's heavenly kings who felt some sort of delight by coming here, was Yuri for no one's surprise.
And speaking of which…
"My my! This place looks as deligfully turbid as the last time I've visit you, my dear Doktor." Yuri, the youngest, and one of the most fearsome of the Heavenly Kings said in relish while looking around the laboratory from hell like a kid visiting a candy shop.
"My sweet Yuri! You look beautifully unsettling today!" The Doktor came to greet Yuri, being one of his favorite visitors aside from the Professor himself who basically didn't mind all the twisted stuff he did, it entertain him instead.
"Ehem…" Leo interrupted the 2's chit-chat to grab the dark scientist's attention back. "It appears that your assumptions about Nathan Adams Amano were right all along, Doktor." Akaba told the Doktor to inform him about his intrigue affirmations over Nate.
"Of course my Glorious Professor. I told you that my secret research over Nate and the Yo-Kai can prove to be useful to take the Academia's end-goals even further that you could anticipate!" The Doktor exclaimed while twisting his body like a vicious cobra. He then pressed a button on his main computer, showing hundreds, if not thousands of documents about Nate's life and the Yo-Kai. "I've been dedicating my whole life studying this kid and the existence of Yo-Kai. Despite many claiming that Nate Adams is nothing more than a normal boy, I've noticed that he has been taken part of many events, to the point that he has been messing with the mere continuation of space and time." He affirmed as he continued to scroll down his screenshots. "As you may all know, the Arc-V reactor that's located in the very center of the Fusion Dimension holds a gate to the living world, Duel Spirit world and the Yo-Kai World as I have recently told you so. So I've had a theory, if we could connect the reactor to a portal straight to the Yo-kai World, we'll have unlimited amounts of Reaction Force to ascend the Academia into Divinity! AHAHAHAHA!"
"Sorry, but what was Reaction Force agaon?" Yuri asked.
"Of course, all for my favorite guest! Reaction Force is a special type of energy that was created once the dimensions were split into 4! An energy that only manifests during certain times, most notably being on duels, where the emotions both positive and negative from the duelists, spectators and even the monsters themselves accumulate into pure power that can sustain an entire city for 5 years!" The Doktor exclaimed, showing cracks on his barely-sustainable sanity.
Leo just ignored his 2 hands and proceed to talk with the Doktor. "But back where we started… I'm not sure why someone like Nathan has one of those dragons in his hands." The Professor quickly changed subject matter into Nate's Odd-Eyes Advance Dragon.
"Well, that's easy to answer, my dear Professor." The Doktor affirmed before letting loose another maniacal giggle before playing a recording of Nate's duel against crowler. "Tell me, if he really has one of the 4 Heavenly Dragons, why does he originate from the Fusion Dimension, our dimension? I doubt that any of the other 3 dimensions still have the technology to travel to the other ones."
"You mean, is like some sort of bootleg?" Yuri asked with a slight disappointed voice.
"Now that you mention it…" The Professor held his chin on his fingers to think. He knew Odd-Eyes Dragon closer than any of the other 3 of Zarc's dragons, and he could remember that the dragon Nate has looks very differently from the one he saw destroy his home world. "Either way… Its safe to assume to keep an eye of him. Maybe we could send one of our men to duel him and get some answers."
At the mention of the Professor's plan, Yuri's mouth began to develop a devious smile. "Then what are you waiting for? I'm pretty much the perfect man for this job!"
"Oh no, you won't Yuri!" Jaden stepped in to bark at his underclassmen's face. "You are fully aware what happens to you when you-"
"Enough Jaden…" The Professor narrowed at the Supreme King to stay silent.
"My Apologies, Professor…" He proceed to nod in obedience.
"Good." Leo muttered before looking to Yuri. "As much as I'm aware of the consequences if you were to let out of control, it is a risk I'm willing to take. But, that doesn't mean I won't apply some restriction methods, as I cannot let you duel with your usual Deck."
"What? Then what am I supposed to duel this kid with? A deck full of worthless Normal monsters?" Yuri complained after Leo told him he couldn't use his Predaplant Deck he shared sadistic, but joyful memories with.
"To the contrary." The headmaster of the Academia contested before looking at the Doktor. "Is the Deck I've requested finally finished?"
"Of course Professor. All that was left of my part was to show you the fruits of my labor." The Doktor responded with a sickly tone as he walked over a drawer near one of his research stations where he develops new cards for the Academia to use. "Ahh yes! Ehahahahaha! My masterpiece shall be unbound upon this wretched world, and hell shall erupt bellow the ground our enemies walk over!" He cackled like a lunatic while taking out a deck wrapped in a red Mantle. His desire to see his new creation cause chaos on the world was visible by the uncanny way he approached Leo and his subordinates. "Here it is, Professor. A Deck that I personally created based on the data you've nourished me about the Original dimension." He knelt gleefully, holding the Deck above his 2 hands like a servant bowing over to his king.
The Professor didn't said anything in regards and just took the Deck from the Doktor's hands. He turned his body to see the Fusion counterpart of the Demon Duelist expressing excitement over his new Christmas gift. "Me and the Doktor have been developing a Deck we think it could further your Dueling Power. Using your mastery in the art of Fusion Summoning Yuri, this new Deck combines the fearsome presence you inflict upon those beneath you and the elegance of your mannerism."
The young sadist felt skeptical with the Professor's words before seeing what kind of cards he has been gifted with. "Hmmm… Not at vicious as my Predaplants, but I love all the detail these malefic fiends express. Wonder where you got that artistic vision, Professor?"
Leo Akaba didn't said a single word. By the headmaster's soul-percing look, Yuri could safely deduce that it was a very delicated subject for him. Even a villainous rose like him knows where he belongs.
"Eh… Figures, I guess…" Yuri shook off the stiffness of his face before shrugging his arms. "Oh well, I don't want to keep our new student waiting to scar his mind for life. Ta tah! Hope you take a good glance of me when I duel this sucker." The teen turned away and walked to the exit of the Laboratory, waving goodbye to those behind his trail like a melodramatic Diva. Once he was away from the other's viewpoint, Yuri's expression began to twist into a psychopath's grin of madness. He just couldn't wait to torture the new students, they were like new prey to feast upon. "It's time for Nathan to experience the Academia's Initiation Ritual…"
