{Valean Wilderness, Train Route, Months before current events}

This was the first time I had been out this far from the ruins, my helmet needed a specific part and I could only find it in the city. I watched the train approaching, it was loaded with a pretty hefty dust shipment. As the engine of the train passed by I jumped, and landed on the roof of the passenger car. Thats when I saw them, two White Fang operatives, jump into the cargo bay. Were they sent to hunt me, or were they just after the dust? I looked down into the passenger car to see security teams make their way to the back door, pretty heavy guard presence for a simple dust transport... No, those were body guards, the train had an SDC VIP. The Fang were here for an assassination... I looked back to the cargo bay and heard the song of combat, I flattened myself against the train's roof in order to avoid detection. I prepared my out-dated sniper rifle.

I watched them emerge from the first car and begin to tear apart the automated security forces present, they worked well together. The masked one wielded a red blade with a gun sheath, while black wielded a pistol katana that turned into... something else? I watched them enter the next enclosed car and got ready...

I flinched back when I heard an explosion and saw the two operatives, one with a mask and bull horns, and another with just a bow, get launched out of the new hole in the train car, I watched as an Atlesian Spider Droid walked out. I trained my sights on the maskless one and was about to fire when she suddenly appeared by the droid, attacking it. Her semblance allowed her to teleport a short distance while leaving an aura clone to take a hit. She retreated when the spider droid prepared its mega-blast, what were they planning? Mask was getting into a stance, must be his semblance.

...

I was right, he absorbed the laser with his sword and disintegrated the droid, a few tree tops, and whatever else was caught in the enhanced iaido attack... I centered my reticle on Mask as he ran to Black, but then Black severed the car Mask was on... Did she just leave the White Fang...

...

Mask seemed... frozen, as the train car he was on faded into the distance... Black used her aura to jump back up onto the cliffs where she vanished as the security teams finally got to the cargo bay. I waited as security swept the area, before they called in the incident and the train gained even more speed, I stowed my weapon.

{Vale, Outskirts, 2 hours later}

I felt the train begin to slow down as it approached the inner city. I spotted a nearby building and jumped onto it, watching the train disappear into the distance. I got down from the building and made my way to the Outskirts, any scavenger's best bet when it comes to finding the part they need. Very few other places match this wretched hive of scum and villainy, but the poor and oppressed called it home...

As I made my way from the Salvager's Salvo, the salvage yard I got my parts from, I spotted Black nonchalantly leaving Junior's with something, most likely some forged papers. I began to follow, but after a few blocks she seemed to notice me and turned down an alleyway. I turned on my old voice modulator before I followed.

I found her blade against my throat the moment I entered the shadowed part of the Alleyway. Her voice, cold and charged with suspicion, ended the silence as I raised my hand to try and grasp the blade.

"Why are you following me?" I couldn't see her due to the shaded goggles limiting my field of view, couldn't go for my own blade without her noticing, but she didn't notice my semblance manifest in my unoccupied hand, she didn't notice it turn to her.

"Why don't you get that blade away from my throat before my semblance goes off? Then we'll talk." She looked down to see an oversized pistol pointed at her abdomen. "It summons weapons in response to the level of threat wielded against me, so that gun will probably punch a hole in you before im left in a pool of my own blood. Besides, I saw what you did back on that train."

She failed to hide her surprised gasp, "Fine, I'll hear you out..." I felt the blade move away from my throat. I turned to see it resting by her side. Her eyes narrowed in suspicion. "Why didn't you report me to the authorities then?" My gun was by my side, ready to snap up if needed.

"Well, you two weren't the only ones to hitch a ride on that train, had to head into town to get some... Spare Rations for my helmet. Could've had both of you dead with my pockets lined with Lien if I so wished. But thing is that I've got beef with the Fang, and now you do too, didn't want to be busted for hitching a ride. People like us ought to stick together, unless you have grander plans than livin the life of a scavenger. So what do you say?"

I extended my hand out to her, offering a spot on my new crew, she instead sighed and looked to the distant silhouette, "I've already decided my path. I'll become a huntress, and I'll bring my people their rights without bloodshed... Without bringing terror... Sorry." She looked back to me.

I nodded as i lowered my hand, "Understandable, but know that the moment you walk the path of a Hunter you're doomed to die young. I've seen it happen out in the ruins; freshly minted teams of hunters overextending and getting themselves killed, and sometimes it wasn't Grimm that killed them. Sometimes it was betrayal, sometimes they tried to fight some nomadic bandits. They all died the same. I know you don't understand yet, but when you do... look around Mt Glenn, you'll find me if you're good enough. I'll always have a spot on the crew for you. Trust." I began to walk away, but then turned back to her, "Oh, and I suggest finding a way to hide your identity, a simple bow maybe enough to hide from fools, but good hunters don't survive as long as they do by being unobservant. You may want to reveal your heritage to your team before they figure it out themselves. Till then, I'll be doing what I do best Black, survive."

I resumed walking away, I looked back to see that Black had already vanished.

{Mt. Glenn, Hideout, 3 days later}

I pulled the old door open and entered, finally I was home! I pulled the makeshift disguise off of myself before I entered the salvaged shower, had to get rid of the city smell and nothing got rid of it better than ruin water. I finished my 'shower' and got dry and began work on my helmet. The piece i needed to replace allowed the helmet to utilize a basic GPS system, it'd help on days where CCT connection was good.

{Sunset}

I put the helmet on, keeping my aura up just in case I crossed a wire. A small minimap appeared in the once empty upper right corner of the armor's HUD. Satisfied, I deactivated the helmet and got in my bed. I was surprised when I discovered that the blankets had survived almost untouched, until I felt the remnant aura imbued into the cloth. A child and their parents had collectively infused the blankets with their auras, that was the only reason the fabric survived all these years... I felt the imbued aura longing for its previous users, it felt my own longing for the simpler days.

I felt my aches and pains fade as I settled down, basically swaddled in the old fabric, as my consciousness faded my thoughts turned towards Black.

...

I hoped that she would see my reasoning and join me...

Kept you waiting huh?

I'm kidding, just had an urge to story craft,

next chapter is occurring back in the present.

Lux definitely remembers Blake, but Blake hasn't realized who Lux is yet. Maybe that'll change once he brings his Neutral Special to bear.

...

Imagine the look on Ruby and Cinder's faces if Lux does a Halo 2 Sniper/Sword Lunge at her...

lol.

Transmat Firing!
