Chapter 12

Reaching the broken window Spider-Man swung inside and looked around worriedly. As he feared the offices and lab in this section had been trashed, so much damage.

'Oh this is not good...I can only pray Mike already left but…' Spider-Man mused anxiously. 'My luck, and his, does not make that likely.'

Slowly making his way forwards he grimaced as he looked around at the damage that had been done, most notably a large hole in the wall. This was all familiar to him, no doubt about it. The clincher was the large claw mark on the wall as he passed through the hole into the next office which was just as trashed.

'Definitely the Lizard, poor Dr. Connors. I've got to fix this...I just hope…' He wondered and then he paused.

It was then he heard it, a soft noise which made him flinch, but his Spider-Sense didn't go off, which gave him a hint as to what the noise was. He carefully approached and then, as gently as he could.

"Mike?"

There was a gasp and then, from behind one of the desks in front of him, Mike's head appeared.

"Spider-Man...what are, how did you even?" He gasped. "You, you need to be careful, something happened to Dr. Connors, he's-"

"Don't worry, I know. We should get you out of here." Spider-Man replied.

Mike bit his lip and slowly began to stand up, his camera hanging from its strap around his neck.

But before anything could happen, Spider-Man tensed, his Spider-Sense going off like crazy.

"Move!" He cried.

With that Mike rushed out of the way while Spider-Man leapt up and attached to the ceiling, just as The Lizard struck the ground where Spider-Man had been. Roaring the Lizard turned around and snarled, red eyes fixing on Spider-Man.

"Doc, please, you need to calm down, this isn't you."

But it was no good and the Lizard leapt up to the ceiling himself, using his claws to attach to the ceiling himself and took a swipe at Spider-Man who quickly leapt back. He heard a few clicks but ignored them, they didn't seem dangerous but he was curious. Right now however he had to dodge a few more strikes from the Lizard.

'This is the same lab I used to defeat him last time...the equipment still works and if I can just keep him away long enough…' He remembered.

He quickly ducked under another attack, hearing more clicks, he quickly used his webs to block Lizard's vision, making him roar and flail, this caused a slight problem as he noticed the tail coming dangerous close to Mike who was taking cover.

"Look out."

He dove aside and used his webs to pull Mike out of the way, just in time as the tail crashed down on Mike's hiding place. Catching Mike and ducking into the lab he paused and caught his breath.

Then he noticed and guessed the source of the clicks.

"Have you been...taking pictures?"

Mike blushed. "I sorry, I just...I was told I had to get pictures of you or...or I'd be fired. I won't be saying anything about Dr. Connors being that Lizard, I just-"

To his surprise Spider-Man just laughed and shook his head.

Finally he shrugged. "Just make sure you get my good side."

Mike had to bite his lip to keep from laughing at that and watched as Spider-Man approached one of the computers and input a few keys. Then a female automated voice mention something about a cure being synthesized.

"Okay, stay safe, take your pictures and when that gauge says one hundred percent, shout okay." Spider-Man explained.

Mike nodded and took up what he hoped was a safe position. Returning to the room, Spider-Man stopped and grimaced, the Lizard had finally torn the webbing from his face and roared in anger, lunging at Spider-Man who quickly dodged him, unfortunately The Lizard stood at the hole in the wall leading to the lab and was looking inside.

"Oh, no, no, no, no." Spider-Man cried out.

He quickly launched a few web lines and, using them all, yanked the Lizard back as hard as he could. As he hoped, the Lizard turned to him and resumed its attack on him.

Taking a few more shots, Mike stopped and lowered his camera and watched the fight as it continued, he had only barely saw that first fight properly but now he was in awe of Spider-Man's skills, dodging and weaving between the attacks that The Lizard sent his way.

'I still can't believe it, Dr. Connors read something on his computer, an email or something and it got him agitated, then he turned into that thing and went on the rampage...not the first time according to Spider-Man.' Mike reflected. 'That's why he's holding back, not throwing any punches, he knows it's Dr. Conners and doesn't want to hurt him.'

He glanced over at the computer screen, it read fifty percent. He returned his focus to the fight, anxious for the cure to finish so this fight would end. Spider-Man was trying to just stay out of the way from the claws of the Lizard and hoping for that very same thing Mike had been worried about. But after some time, unfortunately, Spider-Man grimaced, he was in a tight corner, literally as the Lizard had him pinned in the corner.

"No, doc, listen to me, you-"

But then suddenly, the Lizard shrieked and Spider-Man saw it, Mike was standing there, having fired the antidote from the specially designed dart gun, the dart filled with the cure after it was complete. It was working as the Lizard began to return back into human form, becoming Dr. Curt Connors again.

Catching his breath again, Spider-Man approached Mike.

"That was...nice move."

"I just...I saw what was happening, saw the cure was done and, didn't know what else to do." Mike explained, hesitantly.

Spider-Man shrugged. "Guess now we're even."

"Yeah right, you've saved me twice now." Mike laughed. "Seriously though, Dr. Connors."

"I'm okay." They turned to see Dr. Connors getting to his feet, seeing the destruction. "Oh no, did I-?"

"I'm afraid so, Doc. Don't worry, you didn't hurt anyone at least." Spider-Man explained.

Mike nodded. "Yeah, it's all okay and...we won't say anything about this, I promise."

Dr. Connors sighed and then spotted the damaged laptop. "Oh...I saw an email on my laptop, I can't remember now and it's ruined, I don't know if it'll still be there."

"Well, it's probably best you avoid it anyway." Spider-Man said.

"Yes of course, you should both head off. I'll do what needs to be done and tomorrow the repairs will begin." Dr. Connors explained.

Spider-Man nodded and helped Mike out, the two of them leaving by the broken window with Spider-Man then lowering Mike to the ground before swinging away. Mike watched him go, a strange warm feeling building inside him, amazed at being saved by Spider-Man twice now.
