Chapter 25
Mike blinked a few times, before awkwardly coming to terms with his surroundings. He remembered sadly all too well what happened last night. He had changed into clean dry clothes and was now picking himself up from the couch in Joyce's office in the F.E.A.S.T. Shelter. On the table in front of him were his clothes from last night, dry and neatly folded. Joyce was at her desk and looked up as he sat up.
"Mike, morning." She greeted him gently.
Mike managed a small smile. "Morning...thanks, for last night."
Joyce nodded. "Of course. I managed to get your clothes dried and-"
She stopped and simply gave a smile as there was a knock at the door and then it opened and Will burst in, ashen faced and panting for breath.
"Mom, I got your message, I-Mike!" He burst out.
He had seen Mike and hurried over, Mike smiled at that, glad to have people who clearly cared about him.
"What happened?" Will asked fearfully.
Mike grimaced but readied himself. "I...I was thrown out, by my dad. He...he found out I…"
It was clear just how worked up Mike was, something which clearly distressed Will. Joyce took over the story, explaining the phone call from Karen and her explanation of Ted's actions and Mike just nodded while Will became even more horrified.
Shortly afterwards, while Mike was gathering his things and likely trying to figure out what to do next, Will and Joyce stood outside her office, concerned.
"We can't just leave this, Mom." Will said sadly. "Isn't there anything we can do for Mike?"
Joyce sighed. "There are a few things we might be able to do, but the main problem is of course, Mike can be stubborn. I practically had to do everything I could to convince him to stay here for the night."
"True, he is stubborn." Will agreed. "But still, we can't just leave this."
Joyce nodded and seemed to consider something. It was then Mike emerged, having his old clothes neatly packed into a bag as he walked over to them.
"Thanks for all this, Mrs. Byers, really I...I'm glad you convinced me." He said at last. "I just...I don't know what to do next, but I hate the idea of being here like this, with everyone else needing this place more than I do."
"You need to really learn to let go of that pride of yours sometimes, Mike." Will said softly.
Mike bowed his head but didn't say anything.
Joyce then explained. "Mike, we can't just leave this and you know it. You need somewhere to stay, somewhere you can be safe."
"I...I hate to impose on anyone, but...you're right." Mike admitted. "I just don't…"
Joyce smiled and nodded to Will, indicating what she was thinking.
Sure enough she then explained. "Listen, if you don't feel comfortable staying here, you can stay with Will and I?"
"Yeah Mike, it'll be fine, trust me." Will said, adding his own reassurances.
Mike was taken aback by this, but finally, despite realizing the potential for awkwardness this might cause, he smiled.
"Sure, thanks."
He finally felt relief for the first time since the horrible incident with his father.

Swinging through the streets that night, Will sighed.
'Poor Mike, I can't believe he's having to deal with this, curse you Ted Wheeler.' He thought bitterly. 'Still, he's safe now, with us...that might, okay don't think about that right now.'
He shook his head and tried to focus, that was when he saw something that caught his eye and made him stop.
"What the-?" He muttered.
He saw it again and this time he felt concerned, he recognized that cold white glow and it was coming from inside Oscorp.
'Mr. Negative...what's he doing there?'
Suddenly very concerned, Spider-Man wasted no time and swung towards the building, not having noticed he was once more being followed by Billy Hargrove.
