Chapter 28
Mike stood, eyes wide as he took in his mother's presence. He was unsure how to react, the truly startling part was that Karen seemed to accept that reaction. She didn't look upset, just resigned. But then, without reserve Mike was nearly knocked off his feet.
"Mike!"
He smiled and embraced his little sister who had also been present. "Holly...I'm okay."
Holly clung to him, close to tears. "I was so scared for you."
"I'm sorry." Mike said softly. "But here I am, I'm alright."
Holly sniffled but nodded, stepping back and then Mike looked up from her to their mother. Karen smiled softly and nodded, gently approaching. Holly's reaction and his mother's response told him this was a positive meeting. Sure enough Karen immediately hugged him and whatever she wanted to say just gave way to her breaking down and just repeatedly saying she was sorry. Mike awkwardly hugged his mother and looked over at Nancy who nodded.
"Mom supports you Mike, after...after dad threw you out mom lost it. They had one hell of a fight, Holly finally called me in hysterics and I drove around as soon as I could. Mom had already packed her and Holly's things and I took them away." She explained. "I've gotta say, I for one am glad that you've finally made the decision to divorce dad."
That startled Mike, he couldn't believe what he just heard. Karen straightened up and nodded.
"I can't stand it anymore, I support and accept you Mike." She explained. "Ted doesn't and clearly refuses to even attempt to do so. I can't just let that stand."
Mike smiled lightly hearing that. "I...mom, thank you."
Karen nodded. "It's for the best, I'm here for you Mike, that's all that matters now. You and Holly will be free of him and we'll get this figured out, I promise."
Mike felt relief flooding him and so he was able to relax, things were finally looking up for him.

Meanwhile at the F.E.A.S.T. shelter, Will was working away in the stock room, putting supplies away and organizing things properly.
"Will."
He turned. "Yeah mom?"
He stopped when he saw his mom there, smiling and with her.
"Jonathan?"
Jonathan grinned. "Hey, how's my little brother?"
Will laughed and they hugged. "C'mon, we're practically the same height now."
"True, still…" Jonathan replied, also laughing.
Joyce also smiled as she watched her sons together.
"What...what brought you here?" Will asked.
Jonathan smiled. "Nancy had to pick up Mike at school and take him to our place. His mom and Holly are there, things are going to get better for him especially since Karen is now against Ted."
"Oh are...are you saying?" Will began.
Jonathan nodded. "Yeah, they're going to be divorced but really, it'll be better for them in the long run."
Will nodded, it was going to be hard he knew, but it would be better for them all in the long run.
"So, how can I help out?" Jonathan asked.
Will was startled by this while Joyce just laughed and explained and soon the two brothers were working together, this made Will happy, he had certainly missed spending time with his brother. There was a slight pause before Jonathan spoke up.
"So, um...mom told me." He said gently. "You came out to her?"
Will swallowed nervously, but nodded. "Yeah, I just...I couldn't keep it secret anymore."
Jonathan nodded, he already knew about Will's sexuality, he was in fact the one who Will came out to first.
Jonathan smiled lightly at Will's reply.
"I can understand that, what about your um...crush?"
Will blushed but sighed and shook his head. "It's...it's complicated, but I'll work it out."
Jonathan nodded, he knew he could trust Will, especially now there was some hope for normality now, something that filled them all with great relief.
