Chapter 38

Joyce smiled sadly in response to Will's shocked expression and realization that she knew his deepest secret, knew that he was Spider-Man.

"I've known for a while." She said softly.

Will shook his head. "Mom, I...I didn't mean to-"

Joyce just stepped up to him and hugged him. "I know, I know. I have worried about you and I know you just wanted to keep me safe."

"I'm sorry." Will said softly. "I just...I've fought Sandman before, but the other two...I don't know if I can take them."

Joyce shook her head. "That's not what you should be worrying about, Will. You need to worry more about saving the people trapped there. Avoid fighting them for now and focus on saving them for now."

"I, of course, you're right Mom."

"You can do this Will, I have faith in you." Joyce explained. "No matter what happens, you can save these people. Remember, you have these powers, it's up to you to use them responsibly."

Will paused for a moment, then smiled, encouraged and reassured by his mother's acceptance and this helped him greatly, he knew what he had to do.

"Thanks mom, I'll handle this." He explained gently.

Joyce nodded and Will hurried to get changed into his suit while Joyce hoped that he would keep himself safe, even though she understood the risks he had to take.

Mike grimaced as he looked around, he and the others were taking cover, seeing the chaos unleashed around him.

"Holy…" Dustin gasped.

Suzie grasped his hand, looking around too. "This isn't, we have to get away."

"We can't, look around." Max burst out.

Mike did so and shook his head. The whole area was full of fear, people running around screaming, or being attacked by one of the three vicious Super-villains. Nobody was running away, mainly due to the fact that the whole area they were in was surrounding, the streets that led away were blocked off by large claws bursting from the ground.

"How did they even?" Lucas murmured.

Mike shook his head. "I don't know, I don't…"

He was cut off as they all flinched as the explosion took place, very near them. One of the Green Goblin's Pumpkin Bombs had been thrown far too close to them.

"Should we even stay here, maybe we should get somewhere else?" Suzie suggested.

Max hissed. "It'll be risky, but you're right, I don't think we're safe here anymore."

Mike intervened. "We're not safe anywhere, there are three of them after all, any one of them could find us."

"So what do we do?" Lucas protested.

"Um guys...Is that who I hope it is?" Dustin queried.

They noted he was pointing up high at something. They turned their gaze to follow where he was pointing.

Their hearts leapt in hope at the sight of Spider-Man swinging in.

"It is." Max grinned. "Spider-Man's here."

Mike shook his head. "Even with Spider-Man, I don't think he can take all three of these guys at the same time?"

"Maybe, but he doesn't really have to right now, does he?" Lucas explained. "He just has to save people."

Mike grinned as he realized. "That's...that's right, of course, I just hope he-Well that answers that."

He watched in amazement as Spider-Man easily managed to save two groups of people from being attacked by Mysterio.

"Spider-Man!" Mysterio yelled. "I will finally have my revenge on you!"

Spider-Man snarked back. "Not today, fish bowl."

With that he acted quickly, webbing Mysterio's feet to the floor.

"Hey everyone, you gotta get outta here!" Spider-Man called out, loud enough for the remaining survivors to hear. "Those claws are an illusion, they aren't real, just run!"

This filled them with hope and they began to do so, the first ones brave enough to do so did indeed make it through without being touched. That gave the others the courage to do so and soon people were fleeing. That was when Spider-Man saw the Party and swung in close to them, landing on top of the rubble they were hiding around. They had an opening as Sandman was distracted by the escaping people and the Goblin was out of sight, meanwhile Mysterio was still webbed to the floor.

They all looked up, relieved to see him, Mike especially. He shared a look with Mike, who of course knew who was really here saving them. It warmed his heart to see the hope in his boyfriend's eyes.

"Hey guys, what are you doing still hiding here?" He greeted. "I thought you heard me about the claws?"

Mike shook his head. "We're not exactly in the best position to escape. Not like everyone else."

Spider-Man sighed. "I see, well, this is gonna make things complicated...I was able to save them, that's why I'm here. I can't take these guys all together by myself but…"

"So, what do we do?" Lucas asked.

Finally Spider-Man shook his head. "I'll just have to risk it. I'll distract them, you guys make a run for it when I do."

They looked startled by this, horrified, but he had made up his mind."

"Go!"

With that he turned, only to almost get attacked by Mysterio, luckily his Spider-Sense warned him and he dodged.

"What the-?!"

Mysterio laughed. "You think I'm not prepared for you. I have my only special chemical that dissolves your webs!"

"Urgh, great." Spidey hissed.

But he had accomplished his goal somewhat, Mysterio was distracted and the Party could escape. However at that moment, things got a little more complicated.

"Well, well, hello Web-Head."

Spider-Man sighed. "Sandman, what a surprise, so you guys are all ready for a party huh?"

That was when the worst thing happened, the Goblin returned and saw them and quickly moved in close, he now had all three of them focused on him, in order to hopefully buy his friends a chance to escape.
